At the end of last year, port congestion caused severe disruptions in global supply chains, and most stores were out of stock during the Black Friday and Christmas, the peak selling season.

To experience less dilemma like this, the innovation case from Tianjin Port might help.

Tianjin Port is one of the world’s largest ports. It has a 300000-ton-class wharf with a channel depth of -22 meters. It has 192 berths of various types and 128 berths above the 10,000-ton-class.

By the end of 2021, the port’s cargo throughput reached 435 million tons, ranking ninth in the world, while the container throughput exceeded 18.35 million TEUs, ranking the eighth port in the world.

The cost of manual operations at this scale is exuberant, both in terms of money and efficiency.

A typical port usually deals with vessel arrivals and departures, shoreside operations, horizontal transport, yard operations, manual tractor trailer transport, and gate operations.

One of the key steps in port digitalization is automating horizontal transport, that is, handling cargo within the port.

The Smart Port Solution uses the latest tech — intelligent twins, autonomous driving, 5G, cloud computing, and IoT — to create a better connected, smarter, and more autonomous system.

The results speak for themselves. On the port's visitor platform at the container terminal at Section C of Tianjin Port, container cranes operate automatically and unmanned electric container trucks come and go. At the port, remotely controlled quay cranes stably pick up containers that are loaded with cargo from cargo ships, and load these containers onto unmanned electric container trucks. Under the guidance of the BeiDou navigation satellite system, the container trucks go to the automatic locking/unlocking stations, according the optimal driving route calculated in real time, to unlock the containers, and then drive to the container yard. The intelligent and digital transformation of the port has led to tangible benefits. Previously, transporting containers to container yards within ports requires a large number of container trucks. Using human drivers is very costly. Tianjin Port currently has 76 container trucks. To ensure 24/7 operations, each container truck needs three drivers working in three shifts every day. The port needs 60% fewer staff than before.

In addition, it is exhausting for truck drivers to drive on fixed routes in three shifts, posing an obvious safety hazard. Now, Drivers (who are in high demand) now operate trucks remotely and no longer have to face dangerous, unhealthy working conditions. And each container now consumes 20% less energy, cranes are 20% more efficient on average, with each crane operating 39 container units per hour.

The terminal of Section C in the Beijiang Port Area of Tianjin Port is the first smart terminal of its kind to deploy an intelligent horizontal transport system. Huawei launched Asia Pacific Seeds for the Future 2022 last Friday (August 19). The program will bring together 120 outstanding students from 16 countries across the Asia Pacific region for a 9-day digital boot camp in Thailand, including 10 students from the Philippines. From August 19 to 27, ten Filipino delegates who are ready to demonstrate their talent and abilities will join the journey this year.

The opening ceremony was attended by both local government officials and representatives of multiple international organizations. They highlighted the important role multi-party collaboration plays in creating a solid foundation for the region's digital talent ecosystem.

Huawei said, most Asia Pacific countries have very clear and forward-looking digital strategies. As the Asia Pacific region goes digital, a skilled ICT workforce will be critical. The region has a unique advantage in this area because it has a younger population than the US or Europe. As per the report, Huawei achieved CNY636.8 billion in revenue in 2021, and CNY113.7 billion in net profits, an increase of 75.9% year-on-year. The company's R&D expenditure reached CNY142.7 billion in 2021, representing 22.4% of its total revenue, and bringing its total R&D expenditure over the past 10 years to over CNY845 billion. Check out your room assignment through the Online Notice of School Assignment by the Civil Service Commission (CSC). All you have to do is fill up the information that matches the data you provided to the Civil Service Commission (CSC), upon applying for the examination.

After encoding your data, you will then be redirected to a printable page with details you need to know about your admission. Some of these pieces of information are:

Room Number
School Name and Map Location
School Address

Attention:

The examination proper will start at 8:00 AM. It is advisable to be at the examination venue by at least 7:00 AM for the preliminary activities. The gates of the school will be closed at exactly 7:30 AM.
Failure to appear at your scheduled date and time of examination will mean forfeiture of the examination fee and slot.
The time limit for the Professional Level is 3 hours and 10 minutes, while the Sub-Professional Level is 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Impersonation and cheating are punishable by dismissal from the service (If employed in government) o bar from entering government service (if not yet employed) and/or imprisonment.

Important things to bring on examination day:

Valid ID with photo and signature and the same as the identification card you presented at the time of application.
Application Receipt and/or Notice of School Assignment, given to you after you fill out your application.

How to open a COL Financial account to start your investing career

It's been a year since I applied for a COL Financial (formerly known as Citisec Online) account! I decided to open an account so I could buy stocks with some of my money and own shares in different companies and businesses.

Step 1: Choose an account type - You can choose between these 3 account types:

COL Starter (minimum investment of P5,000): An entry-level account suitable for long-term investing. It provides access to basic research reports, standard market information, and end-of-day charting data.
COL Plus (minimum investment of P25,000): For active traders. It provides streaming quotes, comprehensive research reports, and live chart data with some customizable features.
COL Premium (minimum investment of P1 Million): For the premier investor. Provides access to all available features and a personal relationship manager dedicated to assist you.

In my case, as a beginner in the stock market, I applied for a COL Starter account. Don't worry about how to upgrade your account in the future. Your account will be automatically upgraded by COL Financial once your account reaches the minimum investment allowed per account type. Each account type has a comparison when it comes to features.

Step 2: Fill out the Application Form -

Download and Print out the Application Form on this link: COL Financial Individual Forms.
Completely fill out the forms, Customer Account Information Form (CAIF) and Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). Note that a Tax Identification Number (TIN) is required! For TIN application, please refer to this link: TIN Application Procedure.
The Online Securities Trading Agreement (OSTA) should be read and kept by you as an account holder. It contains the terms and conditions between you and COL Financial as your online broker.

I applied for a TIN at the Bureau of Internal Revenue District Office near me. The requirements to apply for TIN is a PSA Birth Certificate (formerly known as NSO). There's no payment anyway unless you need a TIN ID.

Step 3: Prepare other important requirements - You need at least one (1) photocopy of a valid government-issued ID. It can be a Philippine Passport, Voter's ID, PRC ID, Postal ID, TIN Card, PhilHealth Card, Birth Certificate, etc.

Since I have my Postal ID, I used that one. Take note, photo and signature must be clear!

Step 4: Submit forms and additional requirements - You have two options for submitting your forms!

You may personally submit original signed forms and clear ID documents to COL Financial or through iRemit branches.
You may also send the originally signed forms to COL Financial's Business Center. Once they receive your documents, a sales officer will review your application and schedule you for a video conference call for information verification.

Since I have no time to travel from Nueva Ecija to Manila, I chose to send my forms and other needed requirements using LBC Express using the COL Financial address below.

Step 5: Start to fund your account - After waiting for 3-5 working days since I submitted my documents to them, they contacted me and scheduled a skype video call. Yes, through Skype!

After 3 working days, I received an email from them saying that my account is now ready for transactions! I used to fund my COL Financial account using the BDO Internet Banking service.

Things you may not know about Ilocanos

I'm really proud that I'm an Ilokano. Other people enjoy how Ilokano people tell a story and hit a kind of joke, but there's a lot of it to like and love.

Ilocano people basically live in the most northern part or section (mostly in Abra, Benguet, Cagayan, Ilocos Region, Isabela, La Union, Mountain Province, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Nueva Vizcaya, and Nueva Ecija) of Luzon, one of the three main island groups of the Philippines.

Now, I will be sharing with you all the characteristics, behavior, grammar, what kind of family they have, what kind of food they eat, and other traits of being an Ilokano.

Their physical appearances? Most of them have large eyes and dark skin. The nose is not all flat, nor broad, but flares to catch the most out of smell. But, we do also have "tisoy" Ilokano, of course. Others say, "Ilokano has dark elbows.".

Here, we listed the foods and drinks Ilokano people like, and I'm sure you will relate to this:

You like eating guava with sukang (vinegar) iloco.
Your favorite expression is "Mangan tayon!".
Another expression is "Naimas!".
Your favorite dish is Pinakbet.
Caldareta isn't caldareta if it isn't made out of goat meat.
You know that alcala candy is made from carabao's milk.
You eat with a fork or spoon, but not both.
Your favorite soft drink is Coke.
You make "sawsaw" your bread in your coffee.
Your backyard has at least one "tarong" (eggplant) or "paria" (bitter gourd) plant in it.
Your favorite is bagoong in your Pinakbet.
You return from Hawaii with coolers of marunggai and/or pickled mango.
Your favorite dish is "bisukol or liddeg" or "dinardaraan".
Your favorite cocktail is "basi" (sugar wine).
Your favorite snack is "kilab-ban".
If you don't want to use a fork and spoon, you say "Kamet!".
Patis is common in your household.
Your favorite vegetable leaves are "saluyot" and "kalunay".
Your Dinardaraan dish is dry and not soupy.
You eat with one of your legs propped up and your elbow resting on top of it.

What about their behavior?

You deny being Ilokano by saying "Tagalog-ak!"
When they use a fan, they place the open fan right in front of their noses and then move their heads back and forth.
When you walk, your shoe make a "Tok! Tok! Tok!" sound.
You insist someone's thinking about you when you accidentally bite your tongue.
You're expecting a female or male visitor when a spoon or fork drops on the floor.
You're late for something, then the next thing you hear is, "Apay ngay nagbayag ka?"
A true ilokano "lakay" carries his cigarillo pack tucked in on top of his shoulder sleeve or rolled up in his arm sleeve.
You always ask the vendor, "Is that your fixed price?"
You ask your friend to snap a picture of you by saying "Kodaken nak man lakay!".
You claim your nationality as "Ilokano" and not Filipino.
You fail to pray before meals.
You blow your nose by standing on the side of the road, holding one nostril, and blowing out through the other.
When you meet someone anywhere, you hear the usual questions "Naggapuam?" or "Papanam?".
When you go to a party, you listen to the background chatter to see if you can hear anyone else speaking Ilokano.
When someone does something embarrassing or wrong, you respond by saying "Kababain!"

What about their vocabulary and grammar?

You address your fellows as "lakay."
You finish your sentence with "ngarud."
When you're broke, you say "Awan ti kuarta!"
When you get upset, you yell "Anya ki din aya!"
When you refer to second-hand information, you say "kung-kunana" or "kunana met".
When they speak Tagalog, they pronounce their words ending with vowels without the maragsa accent. (i.e., "Mama, para nga.)
The quintessential phrase is "Ubet mo!", and the response will be "Ubet mo met!"
You say "Ay sus!" at least 10 times a day.
You preface every other sentence with "Nga" or "Apay".
Your father always scolds you with, "Papispisan ka, hala!"
You pronounce "people" and "simple" as "pee-pell" and "seem-pell" respectively.
You summon someone with an "Umay ka 'toy!" attached to the standard "Hoy! Psst!".
You make a comment on somebody's statement by saying "sinabim" as in "sinabi mo" if you are trying to be a Tagalog-ak.
When you want something done right away or fast, they say "Darasum!" or "Napaspas!".
When you're playing basketball, and you make the shot in front of your opponent's face, you say "Rupam!".
In response to being surprised, shocked, or faking astonishment, you say, "Masda awan ak!". And when someone agrees, they say "Masda awan ak met lang!"
"Maturog kan!" is heard at least 5 times from both parents before the child actually goes to bed.

Others:

All your elderly are referred to as "apo."
Your family gathering includes an inevitable game of Pusoy.
Your mother and grandmother smoke their "cigarillo" with the lit end in their mouth.
You sniff-kiss your balasang or balong.
Your palayaw, most of the time, ends with -ing, -ang, or -ong. (e.i. Pedring, Dinong, Mayyang)
You meet a fellow Ilocano and you say "Anya ngay?".
You have a copy of "The Last Supper" in a tapestry or hung on a wall.
You have a 3 ft. high wooden fork and spoon hanging up in your house.
Your curtains match your prom dress.
Your rosary is prominently displayed around your rearview mirror.
You could ride across a flooded river standing up on your carabao.
You think that every balete (balliti) tree is a ghost's house.
You like daing.

Contrary to what we know, walking on a street or in a dark alley alone, or going to a crowded place are the most dangerous places and happenings we encounter in our everyday life. Well, take a look at these modes of operations that are commonly used by attackers in the Cyber World and see it for yourself.

PNP Cyber Crime group compiles all the modus operandi committed in Cyber World and we listed it below:

The Online Libel

This is common most especially in Social Media. This is committed through text messages, emails, posts on social media, blogs, websites or in a piece of online news. Suspect tend to publish false statement posts, damaging the person's reputation or to defame. According to Revised Penal Code of the Philippines (Article 355), the elements of libel are imputation/accusation of a discreditable act or condition to another, a publication of the imputation, the identity of the person defamed and existence of malice.

The Online Threat

This is also committed through text messages, emails, posts in social media accounts or in chat. The person is sending harsh and threatening words to the victim. Sometimes, the sender uses fake emails, social media accounts, and new SIM numbers to hide their identity.

The Online Scam

This is a never gets old scenario. The suspect or we should say "Scammer" is selling or trading an item that looks genuine at a very low price and is always asking money to the victim. Then, promises to ship the product as soon as they received the money/payment using their provided bank accounts. The victim also gives discounts until the victim concedes. Another modus of Scammers is they will send a text message to the victim (by random number), saying you won a cash price in a promo or telling they are your relatives that they need a load for emergencies.

Hacking and Identity Theft

People who tend to access your Social Media accounts or emails without any consent or rights are hackers. In case you missed my post about different attacks by Hackers and on how to prevent them from accessing your accounts, read it here.

The Sextortion

This usually a form of sexual exploitation that employs a non-physical form of coercion to extort sexual favors from the victim. Players always create fake accounts often representing as a young female. Most victims are being approached in chat rooms, dating websites and social networking websites by initiating text communications in an attempt to befriend them. Players always perform recorded sexual acts or in actual on webcam and encourage the victim to do the same. Then the player secretly records the sessions to threat victim and ask for money in exchange for not posting the sexual images and videos of the victim.

Anti-Photo/Video Voyeurism

Any person who possesses nude photos or videos of another person without consent. Most cases or often, the suspect and victim may had previous relationship. The suspect threatens to post the images or videos in social media accounts or porn sites to blackmail the victim, to ask a favor or consideration in exchange of not posting it.

Identity Theft or Social Engineering Attacks

Info: Attackers impersonating as you to gain access to your accounts. Normally, attackers are using wireless communication like chat support, voice calls or via email.

How to prevent: Contact your service provider and make arrangements for your accounts, ask them to call your provided telephone/mobile number before they approve transactions from suspicious user activity. You can also demand to add verification process if needed.

Password Attack

Info: A third party is trying to gain access into your accounts by cracking the user's password.

How to prevent: Your birthday is a terrible password idea, along with your address. So change it and don't use it!

Account Security Question

Info: This might be used as extra security to your bank accounts, verify the user's identity as a legitimate owner, and might be used in retrieving lost or forgotten password.

How to prevent: Since your address, birthplace and mother's maiden name are shown on the said website, never ever use it now. I warn you! You may add some tweaks to your security question's answer by putting extra characters or numbers.

The website publicly provides the information of the voter's personal data including birth date, civil status, birthplace, address, and also precinct number just by entering the first name, last name, and maternal name. Voter's data are now searchable on the internet, sounds alarming right?

And look, there's also a download link of COMELEC's election data breach and dzMM website's database breach in LulzSec.ml, formerly known as lulzsecph.net who got suspended because of the complaint prior to the issue of COMELEC's biometrics data leaked after hack.

Having a problem with your data connection or having a hard time to connect even though you have a strong signal and enough load to use mobile internet service?

Better check your APN or Access Point Name Settings first if they are configured properly, to enjoy high speed mobile internet experience and access.

Here are the lists of APN settings for different Telcommunications network here in Philippines:

For Globe Telecom and Touch Mobile Subscribers. Most of their subscribers are using the old default apn - myGlobe Connect with www.globe com.ph,which is super slow. I highly recommend to use this apn: http.globe.com.ph or the so called myGlobe INET settings.

For Smart Communication Inc. and Talk n' Text Subscribers, try to use: smartbro, internet or smart1. But i prefer you to use the first one.

For ABS-CBN Mobile users, just use: internet.abs-cbn.com.ph as your apn.

For Sun Cellular Subscribers:

Basic Troubleshooting Tips for Mobile and Smartphones

Check this easy step tips on how to fix certain phone problems and be aware of what causes it:

For Signal Issues (Poor/No Signal)

Walk into another place and check if your signal improves.
Try to go outside if you are in a closed place and find an open area.
Restart your mobile or smartphone.
For smartphones, turn the airplane mode on and off or go to Settings > SIM Management > Turn off and on the SIM Information.
Check your Network Mode under your Mobile Network Settings > Network mode, Set it on GSM/WCDMA mode (auto mode). Sometimes, 3G/4G Network is not available in other places.

For SIM Errors, such as delay or can't send or received text messages and phone calls

Turn your mobile or smartphone off and remove the sim. Clean the sim contacts (metal part) with a pencil eraser and re-insert into the phone.
Try to insert your SIM Card into another phone and check if it is working properly, then your phone has a problem. If it is not working fine, the sim card has a problem.

For Phone Errors

For mobile phones, On and off your device, if restarting your phone did not solve the problem, it is more likely in the memory/hardware. Try to remove some messages and not important files then check if it helps. If not, go to the Phone Repair Shops or Service Center near you.
For smartphones, reboot your phone. If the error still persists, try to remove/uninstall the apps or games you installed before. Another option is by restoring your smartphone in a default setting or by clearing the data and cache of your phone.

Charger/Charging Issues:

Check the cable wire of your charger if there are broken or cuts.
Check and clean the port for dirt.
If charging too slow, check the rating of the charger or you're using the correct charger for your device because it is not recommended to use third-party chargers.
