Living in the Philippines means we are used to hearing storm warnings and typhoon updates almost every year. Some storms pass quickly, but others bring floods landslides and long power interruptions that can affect entire communities.

I have learned that waiting until the last minute is never a good idea when a strong typhoon is coming. Preparation is not about panic. It is about protecting your family and making sure you have what you need when normal services are disrupted.

In a country where typhoons are part of life, being ready ahead of time can reduce stress and danger. Here are the top things Filipinos should prepare before a typhoon hits.

Clean drinking water

Water is the first thing every household should secure. Prepare at least one gallon of clean drinking water per person each day for at least three days. Store water in sealed containers and keep them in a safe place.

Before the storm arrives, you can also fill large containers or your bathtub with water for washing and cleaning. This extra supply becomes useful if regular water service is interrupted.

Non perishable food

Stock up on food that does not require refrigeration or heavy cooking. Canned goods dried foods instant meals and ready to eat snacks are practical choices. Make sure you also have a manual can opener.

Try to prepare enough food for at least three days for everyone in your household. Choose items that are easy to prepare and familiar to your family.

First aid kit and medicines

A complete first aid kit is important during emergencies. Include bandages antiseptic wipes gauze scissors and basic medical supplies. If anyone in your family takes prescription medicine, prepare extra doses in advance.

Check your kit regularly and replace expired items. Having medical supplies ready can save time and prevent small injuries from becoming serious problems.

Clothes and basic essentials

Prepare extra clothes that can handle wet and windy weather. Waterproof jackets sturdy footwear blankets and towels should be easy to access.

If you have pets, prepare their food and basic needs as well. Keeping everyone warm and dry helps maintain comfort during long outages.

Flashlights and spare batteries

Power interruptions are common during strong typhoons. Each family member should have access to a flashlight. Keep extra batteries stored in a dry place.

Solar powered or hand powered lights are also good alternatives. Reliable lighting improves safety inside your home at night.

Charged phones and communication tools

Fully charge your smartphones and keep portable chargers ready. Save emergency contact numbers and install weather and alert applications for real time updates.

Communication is important during disasters. A charged phone allows you to receive warnings and stay connected with family.

Important documents

Gather identification cards insurance papers medical records and other important documents. Store them inside a waterproof envelope or sealed plastic container.

Easy access to documents makes recovery easier if evacuation or assistance is needed after the storm.

Emergency cash

During power outages electronic payments may not work. Keep a small amount of cash in safe storage using different denominations.

Cash can be useful for transportation food or urgent purchases when systems are down.

Portable radio

A battery powered or hand powered radio allows you to receive official announcements when internet and electricity are unavailable.

Keep spare batteries ready so you can continue receiving updates about the storm and safety instructions.

Family emergency plan

Every household should have a clear emergency plan. Discuss evacuation routes meeting points and communication steps if family members become separated.

Practice your plan so everyone understands their role. Preparation reduces confusion and panic when a typhoon arrives.

Preparing for a typhoon is one of the most responsible things we can do as Filipino families. Securing water food medical supplies clothing communication tools and a clear emergency plan creates a strong layer of protection. Typhoons may be unavoidable, but being prepared helps us face them with more confidence and safety.

How the New TESDA Skills Passport App Helps Filipinos Access Training Jobs and Scholarships

A few weeks ago I heard about a new government tool that could change how Filipinos train upgrade skills and find work. I was curious because anything that makes life easier for anyone learning new abilities online is worth knowing.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority recently launched a mobile application called the TESDA Skills Passport app. This is a digital platform that lets learners and job seekers use their phone to find training information apply for programs and build a verified skills record with real credentials.

What is the TESDA Skills Passport App

The TESDA Skills Passport is a new all-in-one application designed by TESDA to bring technical education training interviews scholarships job search and certification into one place. It was launched at an event attended by national officials as part of a push to modernize skills development for Filipino learners and workers.

You can store and verify your TESDA National Certificates and completed training programs. The app also lets you build a digital identity or digital portfolio that you can easily share with employers or training institutions.

How the App Helps Plan Your Training and Career

Inside the Skills Passport app you will see features that help you plan your learning and career path. One of the key features is the Skills Passport itself which works like a verified skill resume that shows all your official certificates.
There is also direct access to TESDA online courses through the TESDA Online Program. Courses are suggested based on your interests and career goals so you can continue learning and improving your skill set without needing to visit a physical center.

The Skills Passport app includes real time listings of scholarship programs that are supported by TESDA. This protects your personal data and makes sure your credentials are reliable when employers or training providers review them.

When I first tried to find online work as a Filipino freelancer, I quickly realized that not all platforms work the same. Some websites look promising but rarely lead to real clients. Others quietly become the go to places where Filipino Virtual Assistants actually build long term careers.

As a Filipino blogger and freelance web and software developer, I spent years testing different freelancing platforms. I applied to jobs, optimized my profiles, and learned which sites consistently connect Filipino Virtual Assistants with paying clients.

Based on my personal experience and what I observe in the Filipino freelancing community, here are the top five platforms Filipino Virtual Assistants use to find clients online.

OnlineJobs.ph is my main platform for finding VA clients

OnlineJobs.ph is the platform I rely on the most when searching for Virtual Assistant clients in the Philippines. The reason is simple. Employers on this site are already looking for Filipino remote workers, which makes the hiring process more direct and efficient.

Unlike crowded global marketplaces, OnlineJobs.ph focuses on connecting Filipino Virtual Assistants with international clients who want long term help. There is less noise, fewer unnecessary fees, and more opportunities for stable remote work.

I personally gained some of my best freelance opportunities here after improving my profile and clearly presenting my skills. If you want to see how I structure my experience as a freelancer, you can check my profile here
https://www.onlinejobs.ph/jobseekers/info/188647

For beginners who want to find Virtual Assistant jobs online, I always recommend completing your profile fully and applying consistently. A clear and professional profile increases your chances of getting noticed by serious employers.

Upwork connects Filipino VAs with international clients

Upwork remains one of the largest freelancing platforms where Filipino Virtual Assistants search for online clients. It offers a wide range of remote work categories including administrative support, customer service, and digital assistance.

The biggest advantage of Upwork is access to international businesses. Filipino Virtual Assistants can build global experience and gradually increase their rates as they earn positive feedback.

Competition is strong, so writing personalized proposals and maintaining a strong profile is important. Once you establish credibility, Upwork can become a steady source of remote clients.

Fiverr lets Filipino Virtual Assistants package their services

Fiverr allows Filipino Virtual Assistants to create service listings that clients can purchase directly. Instead of applying to job posts, you present your skills as ready made service packages.

Many Filipino freelancers use Fiverr to offer focused Virtual Assistant services such as email management, scheduling, and administrative support. A well written service description and portfolio can attract repeat clients over time.

This platform works well for freelancers who prefer structured service offerings and searchable listings.

Freelancer.com helps Filipino VAs gain experience

Freelancer.com is another platform where Filipino Virtual Assistants compete for project based work. Clients post jobs and freelancers submit proposals explaining how they can help.

While competition can be intense, many beginners use this platform to build their first reviews and gain real client experience. As credibility grows, it becomes easier to attract higher paying projects.

Freelancer.com is also useful for improving communication skills and understanding client expectations in online freelancing.

VirtualStaff.ph supports long term VA work in the Philippines

VirtualStaff.ph focuses on connecting Filipino Virtual Assistants with employers who want ongoing working relationships. Many listings involve consistent schedules and long term collaboration instead of one time projects.

This platform is ideal for Filipino freelancers who want predictable remote work and stable income. Employers often integrate Virtual Assistants into their teams, which creates opportunities for professional growth.

Finding clients as a Filipino Virtual Assistant is not about relying on a single website. Success comes from building a strong online presence, applying consistently, and communicating professionally. In my experience, OnlineJobs.ph continues to be my most reliable platform for finding clients, but combining several platforms increases your chances of building a sustainable online freelancing career in the Philippines.

With 5G and 4L, will a Driverless Port far away?

During Christmas season, dispatching different goods and commodities from all over the world on time for a port is always important. At the end of last year, port congestion caused severe disruptions in global supply chains, and most stores were out of stock during the Black Friday and Christmas, the peak selling season.

To experience less dilemma like this, the innovation case from Tianjin Port might help.

Tianjin Port is one of the world’s largest ports. It has a 300000-ton-class wharf with a channel depth of -22 meters. It has 192 berths of various types and 128 berths above the 10,000-ton-class.

By the end of 2021, the port’s cargo throughput reached 435 million tons, ranking ninth in the world, while the container throughput exceeded 18.35 million TEUs, ranking the eighth port in the world.

The cost of manual operations at this scale is exuberant, both in terms of money and efficiency.

A typical port usually deals with vessel arrivals and departures, shoreside operations, horizontal transport, yard operations, manual tractor trailer transport, and gate operations.

One of the key steps in port digitalization is automating horizontal transport, that is, handling cargo within the port.

The Smart Port Solution uses the latest tech — intelligent twins, autonomous driving, 5G, cloud computing, and IoT — to create a better connected, smarter, and more autonomous system.

This smart terminal was built by Tianjin Port Group (TPG), together with Huawei and other partners, as part of its efforts to build a smart and green port.

One of the key innovative applications to address this is Huawei's self-developed, truly AI-based intelligent horizontal transportation system, which has achieved a series of "world firsts": Large-scale commercial use of ultra-L4 driverless, the world's first "5G+BeiDou" integration of ubiquitous intelligence, the world's first self-sufficiency in green electricity and zero carbon emission, etc. This achievement provides a blueprint for other parts of the world to build intelligent and low-carbon ports.

The results speak for themselves. On the port's visitor platform at the container terminal at Section C of Tianjin Port, container cranes operate automatically and unmanned electric container trucks come and go. At the port, remotely controlled quay cranes stably pick up containers that are loaded with cargo from cargo ships, and load these containers onto unmanned electric container trucks. Under the guidance of the BeiDou navigation satellite system, the container trucks go to the automatic locking/unlocking stations, according the optimal driving route calculated in real time, to unlock the containers, and then drive to the container yard. The whole process is completed in one go.

The intelligent and digital transformation of the port has led to tangible benefits. Previously, transporting containers to container yards within ports requires a large number of container trucks. Using human drivers is very costly. Tianjin Port currently has 76 container trucks. To ensure 24/7 operations, each container truck needs three drivers working in three shifts every day. The port needs 60% fewer staff than before.

In addition, it is exhausting for truck drivers to drive on fixed routes in three shifts, posing an obvious safety hazard. Now, Drivers (who are in high demand) now operate trucks remotely and no longer have to face dangerous, unhealthy working conditions. And each container now consumes 20% less energy, cranes are 20% more efficient on average, with each crane operating 39 container units per hour.

The terminal of Section C in the Beijiang Port Area of Tianjin Port is the first smart terminal of its kind to deploy an intelligent horizontal transport system. Looking ahead, Huawei will continue working with partners to deploy and replicate this experience in more ports, building smart ports together.

Filipino Delegates joined Huawei AP Seeds for the Future, starting an inspired digital journey

Huawei launched Asia Pacific Seeds for the Future 2022 last Friday (August 19). From August 19 to 27, ten Filipino delegates who are ready to demonstrate their talent and abilities will join the journey this year.

The opening ceremony was attended by both local government officials and representatives of multiple international organizations. They highlighted the important role multi-party collaboration plays in creating a solid foundation for the region's digital talent ecosystem.

Huawei Seeds representatives from AP countries

Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Dato Lim Jock Hoi stressed that digital talent will be the driving force in the construction of a Digital ASEAN: “The private sector can play a pioneering role in realizing this vision. In this regard, I commend Huawei Asia Pacific’s initiative: Seeds for the Future Program. This project underscores the long-term commitment of Huawei to collaborate and prepare the ASEAN youth for the changing world of work and industry’s demands. I hope that such efforts could also be extended to the other ASEAN Member States.”

Executive Director of ASEAN Foundation, Dr. Ms. Yang Mee Eng said: “The growth of ASEAN Digital Economy is entirely dependent on the capability of the region’s young people to participate in it. To nurture a generation of digitally savvy and innovative problem solvers, it is pivotal for stakeholders of ASEAN to create a robust learning ecosystem that allows our youth to advance their digital skills.”

Director for the ICT Industry Development Bureau of DICT in the Philippines, Ms. Emmy Lou V. Delfin delivered her message, "Thank you to Huawei for this partnership with the DICT in developing Filipino youth to become entrepreneurs through ICT. Huawei Seeds for the Future program is so timely and relevant especially for our college students. Getting the right skills and training builds for a brighter future. Just as your tagline says - inspiring talents to shape the future."

The participants will get immersed in technologies and cross-cultural experiences, and propose technical solutions to address social problems through Tech4Good projects. 56 of the 120 participants this year are women, making the 2022 cohort the most gender-balanced in the region since the program initiated.

Asia Pacific Seeds for the future 2022 is not only about knowledge learning but also about how to transform ideas into initiatives and projects that will provide a decent, quality, and happy life for all. Deputy Minister of Education of Thailand Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich agreed that “The Seeds for the Future program is important for students interested in ICT and digital technologies as it fills the gap between theory and practice. The Ministry of Education envisions a greater focus on morals and ethics, whereas education should also emphasize digital skills. This is regarded as the most significant development in the Thai education sector; boosting the quality of education, in all forms, to advance education to a global level.”

Mr. Simon Lin, President of Huawei Asia Pacific

President of Huawei Asia Pacific Mr. Simon Lin reiterated Huawei's own commitment to talent development: "The 'seeds' represent hope, passion, and future. As the corporate-level flagship CSR project with the longest history, this program has been brought to nearly 140 countries and regions, reaching over 12,000 students from 500 universities. The ‘Seeds’ have grown to a global ‘forest’.” “Digitalization is the driving force for our future. Talent is the key to digital transformation and sustainable growth. We deeply believe that the young generation will grow as the constructors of Asia Pacific when pursuing their tech-dreams.” Simon Lin added.

The opening ceremony was ended with 16 Seeds representatives performing a song “Dream it Possible” together in their own languages.

From today, they would embark on a cultural and digital journey filled with site visits including the United Nations Regional Hub in Bangkok, the Metaverse Expo, and the Grand Palace in Bangkok. At the same time, the participants will be provided training in cutting-edge technologies like 5G, AI, and cloud computing from industry-leading experts.

During the digital camp, the participants will be expected to team up and create a "Tech4Good" pitch where they will share their visions for a better digital world. The winning teams will be given a place in an accelerator camp in Singapore that will be held from August 29 to September 4. This camp will give them the opportunity to meet top-notch entrepreneurs and investors and further develop their initiatives and bring their ideas to the market.

Seeds for the Future is Huawei's flagship Corporate Social Responsibility program that brings together young talent from top universities around the world. Huawei Philippines launched the program in 2015 to inspire ICT talent and encourage them to tackle social challenges with digital solutions. As of the end of 2021, the program had been reaching over 200 students from over 30 universities in the country.

The company held its 19th annual Global Analyst Summit in Shenzhen from April 26 to 27.

Ken Hu, Huawei's Rotating Chairman, speaking at HAS 2022

For more than 30 years, Huawei have been innovating nonstop to create value for our customers and society. Innovation has become a core part of Huawei's DNA. Despite considerable operational challenges over the past few years, we have continued to steadily increase our investment in R&D. For nearly a decade, our strategy has been to re-invest at least 10% of our annual revenue back into R&D. Last year, we invested 22%. Huawei's Rotating Chairman Ken Hu said during the event.

Hu went on to discuss the specific initiatives that Huawei is working on to realize its vision for the future. "We are currently focusing on three areas: strengthening our approach to innovation, equipping all industries with the tools and knowledge they need to go digital, and helping build a low-carbon world."

According to him, Huawei sees two major trends: all industries are going digital, and the world is setting its sights on low-carbon development. “Needless to say, no organizations these days are asking themselves whether or not they ought to go digital. They're more concerned about how to go digital and how to do it well.” Said Hu.

In Huawei’ view, the ICT and finance industries were first-movers, so their transformation goes deep – all the way down to their core production systems. Industries like electric power, fuel, and manufacturing are using digital technology to solve production challenges, whereas the digital journey of industries like real-estate, construction, and agriculture has only just begun. Because these industries are at different stages of the transformation process, they naturally have different concerns.

For the past 10 years, we've been going through our own digital transformation. We've gained a lot of valuable experience along the way, Hu said.

Moving forward, Huawei is taking active steps to boost its business resilience and ensure steady development. "We have to keep the ball rolling through nonstop innovation, creating value for customers and society," said Ken Hu. "We look forward to working more closely with our customers and partners to build a greener intelligent world."

Huawei kicked off its 19th annual Global Analyst Summit in Shenzhen. Huawei's Rotating Chairman Ken Hu said that the company will continue to boost investment in innovation to build new products and enhance and accelerate new technologies.

"At Huawei, when we talk about innovation, the first thing we think is people. We hope to attract world-class talent with world-class challenges, and work together to push the limits of science and technology," said Hu, referring to the Top Minds recruitment program that the company launched on its website.

Huawei's Rotating Chairman Ken Hu

"We don't care where you’re from, where you graduated, or what you studied,” he continued. “As long as you have a dream for the future and believe you can make it happen, we want you to come and join us. We provide world-class challenges, a powerful platform, and all the resources you need to explore the unknown."

Moving forward, Huawei is taking active steps to boost its business resilience and ensure steady development. "We have to keep the ball rolling through nonstop innovation, creating value for customers and society," said Ken Hu. "We look forward to working more closely with our customers and partners to build a greener intelligent world."

Dr. Zhou Hong, President of Huawei's Institute of Strategic Research, said that "everything we imagine today is very likely to be too conservative – too little – for tomorrow. We have to meet the future with bold hypotheses and a bold vision, and throw caution to the wind as we push to break through bottlenecks in theory and technology. This is the only way forward." He outlined ten challenges that Huawei hopes to address moving forward.

Two scientific questions:

How do machines perceive the world, and can we build models that teach machines how to understand the world?

How can we better understand the physiological mechanisms of the human body, including how the eight systems of the body work, as well as human intent and intelligence?

Eight tech challenges:

New sensing and control capabilities, e.g., brain-computer interfaces, muscle-computer interfaces, 3D displays, virtual touch, virtual smell, and virtual taste

Real-time, unobtrusive blood pressure, blood sugar, and heart monitoring, and strong AI-assisted discoveries in chemical pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, and vaccines

Application-centric, efficient, automated, and intelligent software for greater value and better experience

Reaching and circumventing Shannon's limit to enable efficient, high-performance connectivity both regionally and globally

Adaptive and efficient computing models, non-Von Neumann architectures, unconventional components, and explainable and debuggable AI

Inventing new molecules, catalysts, and components with intelligent computing

Developing new processes that surpass CMOS, cost less, and are more efficient

Safe, efficient energy conversion and storage, as well as on-demand services

Huawei said, most Asia Pacific countries have very clear and forward-looking digital strategies. As the Asia Pacific region goes digital, a skilled ICT workforce will be critical. The region has a unique advantage in this area because it has a younger population than the US or Europe. Accelerating the development of ICT talent in the region will require concerted efforts from governments, businesses, and people from all walks of life.

In the Philippines, Huawei also had several programs for cultivating the local ICT talents, such as ICT Academy, Seeds for the Future, covered the Philippines for years, benefited over 9000 ICT students, according to Daniel Guo, the Vice President of Huawei Philippines.

Huawei 2021 Annual Report: Solid operations, investing in the future

Huawei released its 2021 Annual Report on March 28th, revealing that the company had maintained solid operations throughout the past year. I decided to open an account so I could buy stocks with some of my money and own shares in different companies and businesses.

Step 1: Choose an account type - You can choose between these 3 account types:

COL Starter (minimum investment of P5,000): An entry-level account suitable for long-term investing. It provides access to basic research reports, standard market
information, and end-of-day charting data.

COL Plus (minimum investment of P25,000): For active traders. It provides streaming quotes,
comprehensive research reports, and live chart data with
some customizable features.

COL Premium (minimum investment of P1 Million): For the premier investor. Provides access to all available
features and a personal relationship manager dedicated to
assist you.

In my case, as a beginner in the stock market, I applied for a COL Starter account. Don't worry about how to upgrade your account in the future. Your account will be automatically upgraded by COL Financial once your account reaches the minimum investment allowed per account type. Each account type has a comparison when it comes to features.

Step 2: Fill out the Application Form -

Download and Print out the Application Form on this link: COL Financial Individual Forms.

Completely fill out the forms, Customer Account Information Form (CAIF) and Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). Note that a Tax Identification Number (TIN) is required! For TIN application, please refer to this link: TIN Application Procedure.

The Online Securities Trading Agreement (OSTA) should be read and kept by you as an account holder. It contains the terms and conditions between you and COL Financial as your online broker.

I applied for a TIN at the Bureau of Internal Revenue District Office near me. The requirements to apply for TIN is a PSA Birth Certificate (formerly known as NSO). There's no payment anyway unless you need a TIN ID.

Step 3: Prepare other important requirements - You need at least one (1) photocopy of a valid government-issued ID. It can be a Philippine Passport, Voter's ID, PRC ID, Postal ID, TIN Card, PhilHealth Card, Birth Certificate, etc.

Since I have my Postal ID, I used that one. Take note, photo and signature must be clear!

Step 4: Submit forms and additional requirements - You have two options for submitting your forms!

You may personally submit original signed forms and clear ID documents to COL Financial or through iRemit branches.

You may also send the originally signed forms to COL Financial's Business Center. Once they receive your documents, a sales officer will review your application and schedule you for a video conference call for information verification.

Since I have no time to travel from Nueva Ecija to Manila, I chose to send my forms and other needed requirements using LBC Express using the COL Financial address below.

COL Investor Center - Makati
Ground Floor, Citibank Tower,
Valero corner, Villar Streets,
Makati City 1227, Philippines

Step 5: Start to fund your account - After waiting for 3-5 working days since I submitted my documents to them, they contacted me and scheduled a skype video call. Yes, through Skype!

After 3 working days, I received an email from them saying that my account is now ready for transactions! I used to fund my COL Financial account using the BDO Internet Banking service.

Other people enjoy how Ilokano people tell a story and hit a kind of joke, but there's a lot of it to like and love.

Ilocano people basically live in the most northern part or section (mostly in Abra, Benguet, Cagayan, Ilocos Region, Isabela, La Union, Mountain Province, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Nueva Vizcaya, and Nueva Ecija) of Luzon, one of the three main island groups of the Philippines.

Now, I will be sharing with you all the characteristics, behavior, grammar, what kind of family they have, what kind of food they eat, and other traits of being an Ilokano.

Their physical appearances? Most of them have large eyes and dark skin. The nose is not all flat, nor broad, but flares to catch the most out of smell. But, we do also have "tisoy" Ilokano, of course. Others say, "Ilokano has dark elbows.".

Here, we listed the foods and drinks Ilokano people like, and I'm sure you will relate to this:

You like eating guava with sukang (vinegar) iloco.

Your favorite expression is "Mangan tayon!".

Another expression is "Naimas!".

Your favorite dish is Pinakbet.

Caldareta isn't caldareta if it isn't made out of goat meat.

You know that alcala candy is made from carabao's milk.

You eat with a fork or spoon, but not both.

Your favorite soft drink is Coke.

You make "sawsaw" your bread in your coffee.

Your backyard has at least one "tarong" (eggplant) or "paria" (bitter gourd) plant in it.

Your favorite is bagoong in your Pinakbet.

You return from Hawaii with coolers of marunggai and/or pickled mango.

Your favorite dish is "bisukol or liddeg" or "dinardaraan".

Your favorite cocktail is "basi" (sugar wine).

Your favorite snack is "kilab-ban".

If you don't want to use a fork and spoon, you say "Kamet!".

Patis is common in your household.

Your favorite vegetable leaves are "saluyot" and "kalunay".

Your Dinardaraan dish is dry and not soupy.

You eat with one of your legs propped up and your elbow resting on top of it.

What about their behavior?

You deny being Ilokano by saying "Tagalog-ak!"

When they use a fan, they place the open fan right in front of their noses and then move their heads back and forth.

When you walk, your shoe make a "Tok! Tok! Tok!" sound.

You insist someone's thinking about you when you accidentally bite your tongue.

You're expecting a female or male visitor when a spoon or fork drops on the floor.

You're late for something, then the next thing you hear is, "Apay ngay nagbayag ka?"

A true ilokano "lakay" carries his cigarillo pack tucked in on top of his shoulder sleeve or rolled up in his arm sleeve.

You always ask the vendor, "Is that your fixed price?"

You ask your friend to snap a picture of you by saying "Kodaken nak man lakay!".

You claim your nationality as "Ilokano" and not Filipino.

You fail to pray before meals.

You blow your nose by standing on the side of the road, holding one nostril, and blowing out through the other.

When you meet someone anywhere, you hear the usual questions "Naggapuam?" or "Papanam?".

When you go to a party, you listen to the background chatter to see if you can hear anyone else speaking Ilokano.

When someone does something embarrassing or wrong, you respond by saying "Kababain!"

What about their vocabulary and grammar?

You address your fellows as "lakay."

You finish your sentence with "ngarud."

When you're broke, you say "Awan ti kuarta!"

When you get upset, you yell "Anya ki din aya!"

When you refer to second-hand information, you say "kung-kunana" or "kunana met".

When they speak Tagalog, they pronounce their words ending with vowels without the maragsa accent. (i.e., "Mama, para nga.)

The quintessential phrase is "Ubet mo!", and the response will be "Ubet mo met!"

You say "Ay sus!" at least 10 times a day.

You preface every other sentence with "Nga" or "Apay".

Your father always scolds you with, "Papispisan ka, hala!"

You pronounce "people" and "simple" as "pee-pell" and "seem-pell" respectively.

You summon someone with an "Umay ka 'toy!" attached to the standard "Hoy! Psst!".

You make a comment on somebody's statement by saying "sinabim" as in "sinabi mo" if you are trying to be a Tagalog-ak.

When you want something done right away or fast, they say "Darasum!" or "Napaspas!".

When you're playing basketball, and you make the shot in front of your opponent's face, you say "Rupam!".

In response to being surprised, shocked, or faking astonishment, you say, "Masda awan ak!". And when someone agrees, they say "Masda awan ak met lang!"

"Maturog kan!" is heard at least 5 times from both parents before the child actually goes to bed.

Others:

All your elderly are referred to as "apo."

Your family gathering includes an inevitable game of Pusoy.

Your mother and grandmother smoke their "cigarillo" with the lit end in their mouth.

You sniff-kiss your balasang or balong.

Your palayaw, most of the time, ends with -ing, -ang, or -ong. (e.i. Pedring, Dinong, Mayyang)

You meet a fellow Ilocano and you say "Anya ngay?".

You have a copy of "The Last Supper" in a tapestry or hung on a wall.

You have a 3 ft. high wooden fork and spoon hanging up in your house.

Your curtains match your prom dress.

Your rosary is prominently displayed around your rearview mirror.

You could ride across a flooded river standing up on your carabao.

You think that every balete (balliti) tree is a ghost's house.

You like daing.

Since smartphones are the latest trend nowadays and Android is the most popular operating system on mobile smartphones, because of its open-source technology, I will be sharing the Top Developer's Android Applications for Programmers and Geek like you. You don't need to bring your heavy laptops or seating in front of your Desktop Computers.

Actually, I installed these applications, and I'm using these apps for fun and making cool kinds of stuff like running simple programs and making my own android applications and games.

Let's start and start the fun coding of our apps projects.

C/C++ Language

For C++/C Programmers out there, this CPPdroid App is right for you! You need about 190 MB internal storage to install this app, it includes tutorials and examples that you'll need to run your own program, especially for the beginners and willing to learn more about C Programming. Because of Android Security, it can't be moved to SD Card.

Features:

Configurable code syntax highlighting Themes (Landscape and Portrait UI)

Code completion with real-time diagnostics including error checking, warnings, and fixes.

Works offline, like coding, running and compiling C or C++ codes.

File Samples and tutorials including the basics, methods, variables, etc.

Has a built-in compiler and keyboard (I think the keyboard needs more improvement and add more spaces between characters or symbol)

Addons Manager (Libraries), auto-updates and Dropbox support.

Click here to read more about this app and download it now.

Java and Android App/Games Developing

For Java Developers and for those who want to discover about Android Programming, I recommend AIDE (Android IDE, Java and C++). You can create now real Android Application, Games and Android Wear Apps using your fingertips. You can also copy your source code, the one you've created using Eclipse/Android Studio and start editing. The good thing in this app is that the developer never fails to put new features in every update.

Features:

Interactive coding lessons. where you can follow step by step instructions. So, you can apply the things you have learned in the tutorial section into your own projects.

Good visual design checks the errors real-time, write code with a rich editor (code completion), run/install your app project direct to your device, etc.

Can build Java, XML, Android SDK and Android NDK (with C/C++).

Contrary to what we know, walking on a street or in a dark alley alone, or going to a crowded place are the most dangerous places and happenings we encounter in our everyday life. Well, take a look at these modes of operations that are commonly used by attackers in the Cyber World and see it for yourself.

PNP Cyber Crime group compiles all the modus operandi committed in Cyber World and we listed it below:

The Online Libel

This is common most especially in Social Media. This is committed through text messages, emails, posts on social media, blogs, websites or in a piece of online news. Suspect tend to publish false statement posts, damaging the person's reputation or to defame. According to Revised Penal Code of the Philippines (Article 355), the elements of libel are imputation/accusation of a discreditable act or condition to another, a publication of the imputation, the identity of the person defamed and existence of malice.

The Online Threat

This is also committed through text messages, emails, posts in social media accounts or in chat. The person is sending harsh and threatening words to the victim. Sometimes, the sender uses fake emails, social media accounts, and new SIM numbers to hide their identity.

The Online Scam

This is a never gets old scenario. The suspect or we should say "Scammer" is selling or trading an item that looks genuine at a very low price and is always asking money to the victim. Then, promises to ship the product as soon as they received the money/payment using their provided bank accounts. The victim also gives discounts until the victim concedes. Another modus of Scammers is they will send a text message to the victim (by random number), saying you won a cash price in a promo or telling they are your relatives that they need a load for emergencies.

Hacking and Identity Theft

People who tend to access your Social Media accounts or emails without any consent or rights are hackers. In case you missed my post about different attacks by Hackers and on how to prevent them from accessing your accounts, read it here.

The Sextortion

This usually a form of sexual exploitation that employs a non-physical form of coercion to extort sexual favors from the victim. Players always create fake accounts often representing as a young female. Most victims are being approached in chat rooms, dating websites and social networking websites by initiating text communications in an attempt to befriend them. Players always perform recorded sexual acts or in actual on webcam and encourage the victim to do the same. Then the player secretly records the sessions to threat victim and ask for money in exchange for not posting the sexual images and videos of the victim.

Anti-Photo/Video Voyeurism

Any person who possesses nude photos or videos of another person without consent. Most cases or often, the suspect and victim may had previous relationship. The suspect threatens to post the images or videos in social media accounts or porn sites to blackmail the victim, to ask a favor or consideration in exchange of not posting it.

Incase you encounter any of these modus operandi, you may contact the Philippines National Police Cyber Crime Group using these details provided below:

Yesterday's trending topic is all about the COMELEC's voters database breach leaked was a bad nightmare for all Filipino voters. All the information taken from the citizen using biometrics registration has been uploaded by hackers in wehaveyourdata's website and now been searchable along with the internet and exposed to the public around the world.

Filipino voter's who have information on the said website are now prone to hackers and different cyberattacks prior to the COMELEC's database breach leaked issue.

So, I decided to compile all the possible attacks you are vulnerable and how to prevent it.

Identity Theft or Social Engineering Attacks

Info: Attackers impersonating as you to gain access to your accounts. Normally, attackers are using wireless communication like chat support, voice calls or via email.

How to prevent: Contact your service provider and make arrangements for your accounts, ask them to call your provided telephone/mobile number before they approve transactions from suspicious user activity. You can also demand to add verification process if needed.

Password Attack

Info: A third party is trying to gain access into your accounts by cracking the user's password.

How to prevent: Your birthday is a terrible password idea, along with your address. So change it and don't use it!

Account Security Question

Info: This might be used as extra security to your bank accounts, verify the user's identity as a legitimate owner, and might be used in retrieving lost or forgotten password.

How to prevent: Since your address, birthplace and mother's maiden name are shown on the said website, never ever use it now. I warn you! You may add some tweaks to your security question's answer by putting extra characters or numbers.

Here are the contact details you want to ask for help in the event of the attack:

Recently in the Philippine News Media are reported hacks and deface on COMELEC (Commission on Elections) Website.

Now wehaveyourdata.com has been come up and now became viral on social media! The website publicly provides the information of the voter's personal data including birth date, civil status, birthplace, address, and also precinct number just by entering the first name, last name, and maternal name. Voter's data are now searchable on the internet, sounds alarming right?

And look, there's also a download link of COMELEC's election data breach and dzMM website's database breach in LulzSec.ml, formerly known as lulzsecph.net who got suspended because of the complaint prior to the issue of COMELEC's biometrics data leaked after hack.

Of course, we don't want our personal data to be used by others or any means.

Better check your APN or Access Point Name Settings first if they are configured properly, to enjoy high speed mobile internet experience and access.

Here are the lists of APN settings for different Telcommunications network here in Philippines:

For Globe Telecom and Touch Mobile Subscribers. Most of their subscribers are using the old default apn - myGlobe Connect with www.globe com.ph,which is super slow. I highly recommend to use this apn: http.globe.com.ph or the so called myGlobe INET settings.

For Smart Communication Inc. and Talk n' Text Subscribers, try to use: smartbro, internet or smart1. But i prefer you to use the first one.

For ABS-CBN Mobile users, just use: internet.abs-cbn.com.ph as your apn.

For Sun Cellular Subscribers:

APN: wap
Proxy Address: 202.138.159.78
Proxy Port: 8080

Note: For Smart Communication's subscribers, activate your SIM Card first by texting GPRS ON or 3G ON and send to 3333. For Sun Cellular Subscribers, just text GPRS and send to 2300.

** the approval and activation may be delayed, so please be patient. ;)

For Signal Issues (Poor/No Signal)

Walk into another place and check if your signal improves.

Try to go outside if you are in a closed place and find an open area.

Restart your mobile or smartphone.

For smartphones, turn the airplane mode on and off or go to Settings > SIM Management > Turn off and on the SIM Information.

Check your Network Mode under your Mobile Network Settings > Network mode, Set it on GSM/WCDMA mode (auto mode). Sometimes, 3G/4G Network is not available in other places.

For SIM Errors, such as delay or can't send or received text messages and phone calls

Turn your mobile or smartphone off and remove the sim. Clean the sim contacts (metal part) with a pencil eraser and re-insert into the phone.

Try to insert your SIM Card into another phone and check if it is working properly, then your phone has a problem. If it is not working fine, the sim card has a problem.

For other SIM Card/Network concerns, try to reach your network's customer service provider. Click here to check the full list of Telecommunication companies' contact details.

For Phone Errors

For mobile phones, On and off your device, if restarting your phone did not solve the problem, it is more likely in the memory/hardware. Try to remove some messages and not important files then check if it helps. If not, go to the Phone Repair Shops or Service Center near you.

For smartphones, reboot your phone. If the error still persists, try to remove/uninstall the apps or games you installed before. Another option is by restoring your smartphone in a default setting or by clearing the data and cache of your phone.

Charger/Charging Issues:

Check the cable wire of your charger if there are broken or cuts.

Check and clean the port for dirt.

If charging too slow, check the rating of the charger or you're using the correct charger for your device because it is not recommended to use third-party chargers.
