India too is against the OECD talks and has argued that the presence of tech giants such as Facebook, Apple and Amazon have had a profoundly positive effect on their economy and have allowed for an unprecedented level of e-commerce to take place. In addition to this, India has argued that the proposed taxation policies are not properly adapted to the specifics of their economy and believes that a more suitable policy can be devised that is more suited to their financial sector. With both countries unwilling to partake in the OECD talks, the prospect of a unified taxation policy being devised soon has become increasingly unlikely. In a recent statement, the European Union made it clear that it was still committed to the OECD talks and that it would continue to search for a taxation policy that was accepted by both the European Union and the United States of America. Nevertheless, with the talks at a standstill, it is difficult to predict when a new taxation policy can be agreed upon. Until then, it appears that tech giants are unlikely to be taxed accordingly, resulting in a hefty loss in revenue for countries around the world. As a result, countries such as France have decided to take matters into their own hands and have proposed the “unilateral” digital services tax. This tax, if accepted, will target giant tech companies, regardless of their international operations, and result in taxes being paid to countries with higher taxation rates. Although the prospect of finding a mutual taxation policy seems unlikely at this point in time, the OECD and its member countries are still intent on finding a solution to this ongoing issue. Until then, tech giants, such as Apple and Amazon, are unlikely to feel the full force of taxation and, as a result, countries such as France and the United Kingdom will continue to lose billions of dollars in revenue.&lt;br /&gt;
