Three Harley-Davidson motorcycle models were recently handed over to the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) to be assessed for their sustainability in traffic enforcement duties.

The models include:

• 2026 Street Glide Milwaukee 8 117
• 2026 Low Rider ST 117 High Output
• Pan America 1250 Special

Route 77 Motors Sdn Bhd board member Datuk Omar Ali Abdullah , handed the motorcycles over to TEID director Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali at Route 77 Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

According to a Facebook post by the department, the trials will carried out from 24 September to 31 December 2026.

“The trial will allow TEID to conduct practical assessments of the motorcycles’ performance, handling, comfort, capabilities and sustainability for traffic enforcement operations.

“The initiative is also aimed at enabling TEID to explore suitable vehicle assets and technologies in collaboration with the industry to support its operational requirements, enhance personnel readiness and improve the effectiveness of traffice enforcement duties,” the department said.

Sunway Lagoon’s annual horror festival is back for its 12th year, and this time the apes are in charge.

Nights Of Fright 12: APE-OCALYPSE runs from 25 September to 7 November, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 7.30pm to 11.30pm at Sunway Lagoon in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur.

The event bills itself as Southeast Asia’s biggest festival of fear, and this year’s lineup spans nine haunted attractions across genres – from Japanese folklore to K-pop-inspired horror to Malaysian supernatural legend.

The centrepiece attraction, APE-OCALYPSE, imagines a collapsed civilisation ruled by chainsaw-wielding apes, described as a mashup of Mad Max and Planet of the Apes.

“APE-OCALYPSE gives us a new creative canvas inspired by two iconic film franchises, Mad Max and The Planet of the Apes, while the attraction line up allows us to explore different horror and pop-culture genres, visual styles and cultural influences,” said Lynton V. Harris, founder and global creative director of The Sudden Impact! Entertainment Company, which co-creates the event with Sunway Lagoon.

Eight Haunted Houses, One Immersive Theatre

Beyond APE-OCALYPSE, the other haunted houses include Yokai Road (Japanese folklore), The Freezer: Fresh Meat (set inside a meat processing plant), Little Shop of Horrors: Manga UV 3D, The Not-So-Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Return to Silent Hill, The Romeos and Juliet (a K-pop-inspired obsession thriller), and Horrorwood Wax Studios.

Rounding out the lineup is Scarytales Immersive Theatre: Pontianak vs Pocong: Origins, which brings two of Southeast Asia’s best-known supernatural figures into one theatrical experience.

The park is also running three scare zones and eight thrill rides throughout the night park.

More Than Scares

The opening weekend (25 to 27 September) comes with extra activities – a photo booth at Little Shop of Horrors offering free Venus flytrap seeds, a Mystery Box Challenge, complimentary tarot readings at The Oracle Table, and a trading card collection game. Guests spending a minimum of RM100 at select F&B or retail outlets can also redeem a mini Daruma.

DJ Reeve performs a live set at the Sunway Lagoon Main Stage on opening weekend, from 11.15pm to 11.45pm.

After a nine-year wait, Formula 1 is finally returning to Sepang — although there is a rather unusual twist.

Instead of being held in Bahrain, the 2026 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix will take place at the Sepang International Circuit from 2 to 4 October 2026.

The race was relocated to Malaysia following the cancellation of the original Bahrain event amid regional security concerns. The event will retain the Bahrain Grand Prix name, making this a rather unique chapter in F1 history.

If you’ve already got your tickets, or are thinking about heading to Sepang for the race weekend, here’s what you should know before you go.

Know when to be at Sepang

The weekend begins on Friday, 2 October, with Formula 1 practice sessions.

The important timings are:

Friday, 2 October

• F1 Practice 1: 12.30pm–1.30pm
• F1 Practice 2: 4pm–5pm

Saturday, 3 October

• F1 Practice 3: 12.30pm–1.30pm
• F1 Qualifying: 4pm–5pm

Sunday, 4 October

• Drivers’ Parade: 1pm–1.30pm
• National Anthem: 2.44pm–2.46pm
• Bahrain Grand Prix: 3pm–5pm

The race itself is scheduled for 56 laps or a maximum of two hours.

So if you’re only going on Sunday, don’t make the mistake of arriving at 2.30pm thinking you’ve got plenty of time.

Getting there without losing your mind

This is probably the biggest thing Malaysian fans need to think about.

Yes, Sepang is familiar territory for many of us. But an F1 weekend can attract a huge crowd, meaning the roads around the circuit are likely to be much busier than a normal weekend.

The good news is that Rapid KL will provide 95 free shuttle buses during the event.

The shuttle service will run from 7am to midnight from 2 to 4 October, with buses operating every 10 to 15 minutes.

The three pickup locations are:

• KLIA Terminal 2, Level 1 Bus Hub
• Mitsui KLIA Bus Hub
• De-Village, Persiaran Millenia 2, Bandar Baru Enstek

Rapid KL will also operate shuttle buses within the circuit to help spectators move between key areas.

For anyone coming from KL or elsewhere, it is worth considering public transport rather than driving all the way to Sepang.

Driving or riding to the Bahrain GP? Read this first

If you’re planning to drive to Sepang, sort out your parking before heading to the circuit.

Parking for this year’s Bahrain Grand Prix is not the usual cheap-and-easy Sepang arrangement. Passes are being sold according to designated parking zones, with prices ranging from around RM244 to RM651 for the three-day event, depending on the zone.

Some of the cheaper and more sought-after zones have already sold out, so don’t assume you can simply turn up on race day and find a convenient parking spot.

For reference, the currently listed prices include around RM488 for P4, RM325 for P5 and P12, and around RM244 for P6-7, P8, P9, P14 and P17. P2 and P3 were listed at around RM651.

The important thing is that these are event parking passes, rather than the usual parking arrangement you might remember from regular events at Sepang.

What if you’re riding a motorcycle?

This is where things get particularly important for Malaysian bikers.

According to information reported by motoring site paultan.org, motorcycle parking will not be available at Sepang International Circuit for this year’s Bahrain GP.

That means riders should not simply assume they can ride to SIC and park their bikes inside the circuit like they might for other events.

One alternative being discussed is to ride to one of the designated shuttle locations, park there and take the free shuttle bus to the circuit.

The listed shuttle locations include Mitsui Outlet Park, KLIA Terminal 2, KLIA Long Term Car Park and Bandar Baru Enstek. Rapid KL is providing free shuttle services between these locations and the circuit during the race weekend.

For riders, this could potentially be a much less stressful option than trying to find somewhere to leave a motorcycle near the circuit — but check the latest parking and shuttle instructions before setting off, as arrangements can change.

News that disgraced former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had been granted relief to serve the remainder of his prison sentence for the SRC International case under house arrest was a major talking point last week.

However, Najib is reportedly unable to pay the RM50 million fine imposed as one of the conditions allowing him to continue serving his sentence under house arrest, on his own.

This was revealed by lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, who represents the former prime minister, saying that Najib does not have the financial means to settle the fine.

“As of today, Najib himself is unable to pay it. He cannot afford to pay,” Berita Harian quoted Muhammad Shafee as saying.

Muhammad Shafee said this when speaking to reporters at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex today.

He explained that Najib’s personal Affin Bank account — into which his salary as prime minister and member of parliament was previously deposited — remained frozen.

He added that this had put Najib in a difficult position as he was unable to settle the fine required for him to serve his sentence under house arrest.

“He is in a difficult position because he is supposed to pay it, but he does not have the money,” he said.

Najib’s Fundraising Remains Uncertain

Meanwhile, Muhammad Shafee said he did not know how much money had been collected through contributions to help Najib settle the fine.

However, he cautioned that any decision by Najib regarding the acceptance of donations could invite speculation.

“If he accepts the contributions, people will say, ‘Ah, that is his money, he is just moving it around, and it comes back to him.’ If he does not accept the contributions and remains in prison, there is another speculation.”

“Maybe you all will say, this is a politician, he is manipulating things, he wants to gain sympathy,” he added.

On the same note, Muhammad Shafee said Najib had yet to receive the official letter from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong confirming the conditional pardon that would allow him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence for the SRC International case under house arrest.

He added that Najib’s legal team had also not received the letter outlining the conditions attached to the pardon.

A woman has been arrested for pushing a 79-year-old woman into a drain in Taman OUG. The suspect had contested as an independent candidate in the 15th General Election, while the victim is a former Selangor state hockey player from the 1960s.

Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said the incident occurred at around 10.30am in front of a row of shops.

Initial investigations found that the victim entered a tailor shop owned by a friend, telling her she was being followed by the suspect.

The victim left the premises a few minutes later, and the suspect, who waited outside, allegedly pushed her without warning. The victim fell into the drain and suffered injuries to the back of her head, left hand, and back.

In the CCTV recording, the suspect watched for a bit before walking away.

Suspect Detained, Ordered For Psychiatric Examination

The victim’s friend lodged a police report at 12.27pm on the same day and brought the victim to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for medical attention. The victim was warded in the emergency department for four days before being discharged on Monday.

Upon receiving the report, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Brickfields district police headquarters raided a house and detained the suspect.

The suspect denied pushing the victim and failed to give a reasonable explanation for her actions. She also claimed not to know the victim personally.

The suspect has been remanded for a day at the Brickfields police headquarters’ lockup and was ordered by the magistrate to be brought for a psychiatric examination.

Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh is stepping up efforts to tackle urban flooding in Kuala Lumpur by protecting flood retention ponds, enforcing local plans and strengthening cooperation with neighboring state Selangor.

Yeoh said the administration would no longer allow flood retention ponds to be developed, warning that reducing their capacity could worsen flooding and put residents at risk.

Citing areas in Kepong and Batu, she said land previously sold for flood retention purposes could leave the area’s water body with just 30% of its capacity if fully developed.

“When you have reduced capacity to take flood water or rain water, where will it go? It will flood the city,” she said in a podcast with BBK Network.

Yeoh stressed that existing land titles would be respected, but developers must fulfil all conditions imposed by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) before proceeding with construction.

She said the government would not grant approval first and leave flood mitigation requirements to be fulfilled later.

“You fulfil this condition first because if you don’t, even the people who live in the condo built there will experience flood,” she said.

Local Plans To Guide KL Development

Yeoh said Kuala Lumpur’s local plans would be strictly enforced, urging prospective land buyers to check the planning documents before making purchases.

She cautioned that sellers might promise development opportunities that were not permitted under the approved local plans.

The minister said proposals that deviated from the plans would be referred back to stakeholders for consideration.

She added that a task force had been established over the past eight months to examine flood mitigation measures, alongside discussions with the Selangor government to strengthen protection across both jurisdictions.

Yeoh said rivers such as the Klang River flowed beyond Kuala Lumpur towards Port Klang, making cooperation between the two administrations essential.

“Whatever happens upstream, downstream, all will have an impact,” she said, adding that both governments wanted to ensure their residents were protected from flooding.

KL Flood Hotspots Down From 30 To 14

Yeoh said the number of flash flood hotspots in Kuala Lumpur had declined from approximately 30 to 14, crediting former Federal Territories Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa and former Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif for their mitigation efforts.

She said their initiatives included more regular cleaning of waterways, and explained that natural rivers fall under JPS, while man-made monsoon drains are managed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Under the current mayor, dedicated teams have been established to monitor flooding and respond immediately when heavy rain occurs.

“The moment it rains, they must be on ground giving feedback and report and whatever cleaning that can be done, they must do it immediately.”

Yeoh said reducing flood risks remained a priority, given the damage flooding could inflict on the city and its residents.

Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh said she has no time for a “self-pity party” over the personal challenges she is facing, insisting that her responsibility to the people of Kuala Lumpur must come first.

She said she continues to receive strong support from her family and team, allowing her to remain focused on her duties and the work that needs to be done.

“Very good support from my family, from my team and work continues as usual. If you look at my social media posts, my work, we have continued working non-stop. Like I say, time is short,” Yeoh said during her appearance as featured guest on YouTube show and podcast, BBK Network.

Yeoh said the people had given the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition a mandate to deliver, and she wanted to demonstrate that Kuala Lumpur could be managed differently under its administration.

“Like I said, everybody keeps an eye on Kuala Lumpur because it is the capital of the city and past has made their intention known also. So for me, we have this short window to showcase and we have to run,” she said.

Yeoh stressed that she could not afford to dwell on personal difficulties when there was still much to accomplish for the people of Kuala Lumpur.

“I do not have time to have a self-pity party. We just have to keep going,” she added.

Yeoh Urges Public To Prioritise Mental Well-Being

Yeoh also acknowledged that life could present challenges beyond an individual’s control, emphasising the importance of having a strong support system and taking care of one’s mental well-being.

She said encouragement from family and friends could help people navigate difficult circumstances, while urging young people to make time for activities that help them manage stress.

“I think that in life, there are many things that are beyond our control but with encouragement and support from family and friends,” she said.

Yeoh also highlighted the importance of recreational activities, exercise and spending quality time with loved ones, particularly in an urban environment where the pressures of daily life can be overwhelming.

She said Kuala Lumpur residents should make an effort to find activities they enjoy, whether through sports, walking or simply spending time with family and friends.

She added that people experiencing difficulties should remember that they are not alone and that challenging circumstances can be overcome with the right support.

“I believe that no matter what situation comes your way, you will be able to pull through.”

‘We Do Not Shortchange The People Of KL’

On her responsibilities as Federal Territories Minister, Yeoh assured Kuala Lumpur residents that she and her team would continue working hard to improve the city and make it more liveable.

“One thing I assure the people of Kuala Lumpur that we do not shortchange you. We really work at it. We really work hard at it.”

Yeoh said making Kuala Lumpur a more enjoyable place to live was not necessarily about major developments alone, but also about ensuring residents had access to recreational spaces and opportunities to unwind.

She said the demands of working life in the city made it important for residents to have opportunities to recharge before returning to their daily routines.

“Like I said, life is tough in the city. You just want to make it livable and for people to enjoy.

“If you work hard from Monday to Saturday but you have a good Sunday, like spending your time at Dataran Merdeka with your family, go to the park and have a good run, it will make it up for you and you will be recharged to face the next Monday.”

Yeoh said such seemingly simple amenities and recreational opportunities could make a meaningful difference to the quality of life of Kuala Lumpur residents.

“So that is why simple things like that really matter for the people of Kuala Lumpur.”

Personal Challenges Following Divorce

Yeoh had recently gone through a divorce, but despite that, she remains focused on her work, stressing that her duties to the people must take precedence over personal difficulties.

She and her former husband Ramachandran Muniandy have separated after 18 years of marriage. The couple married in January 2008 and have two daughters.

The Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (DPMM) has formally called on the government to explain who authorised the removal of the 30% Bumiputera equity ownership requirement for private tuition centres — a question made more pointed after two ministries gave contradicting accounts within 24 hours of each other.

On 21 September 2026, the Ministry of Education (KPM) said it made the decision after discussions with the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).

One day later, MITI said it had no knowledge of any such coordination — and noted that Bumiputera equity policy falls under the Ministry of Economy, not MITI.

DPMM President Norsyahrin Hamidon said the contradicting accounts “should be clarified immediately to preserve public confidence in the transparency, consistency and accountability of the government’s policymaking process.”

The chamber’s questions go beyond the rationale for the removal.

DPMM is asking which authority considered, endorsed and approved the decision; which ministries and agencies were consulted; what engagement process was conducted with affected stakeholders; and what impact data was used as the basis for the change.

Criticism, Timing and an Absence of Process

The concern is not procedural alone.

The PuTERA35 report recorded Bumiputera equity ownership at 18.4% in 2020, against a national target of 30% by 2035.

Removing the equity requirement from private tuition centres — one of the more accessible entry points for Bumiputera business ownership in the education sector — without announcing any alternative mechanism raises a direct policy contradiction: the government is pursuing higher Bumiputera economic participation while dismantling one of the structures designed to deliver it.

The move comes against a backdrop of sustained pushback.

The 30% Bumiputera equity requirement has drawn repeated criticism from non-Bumiputera community recently, who have argued the threshold raises barriers to entry, discourages foreign investment, and creates structural inefficiencies in sectors where it is applied.

The criticism has been loud and consistent.

Yet the government removed the requirement without a formal review or public consultation — leading some observers to ask a straightforward question: was this a policy decision, or a response to pressure?

The milestone also comes with new partnerships and training programmes designed to give students more opportunities to gain practical skills and experience before entering the workforce.

Among the key supporters are the Selangor State Government, Maybank Islamic Berhad and JETOUR Automobile Malaysia.

More Support For TVET Students

A major part of the initiative is the RM1.65 million Accelerate with TVET Programme, led by Maybank Islamic Berhad with matching contributions from Bank Negara Malaysia, CARSOME Academy and Etiqa General Takaful.

The programme is intended to widen access to technical and vocational education and training (TVET), particularly for Malaysians looking to gain skills that are relevant to the automotive industry.

Maybank Islamic CEO Mohamad Yasin Abdullah said TVET can provide Malaysians with practical skills while helping create stronger pathways from education into employment.

The Selangor State Government will also continue supporting CARSOME Academy through more than RM350,000 in scholarships for Asnaf and B40 students through IKTISASS and Yayasan MBI.

Selangor State Exco for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneurship Yang Berhormat Tuan Mohd Najwan Bin Halimi said the state government would continue working with CARSOME Academy to develop automotive talent and contribute to Selangor’s economic development.

CARSOME Group is also contributing another RM150,000 towards scholarships, with additional funding and development commitments bringing the Academy’s overall support to more than RM2 million.

Students To Get More Real-World Experience

CARSOME Academy has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with JETOUR Automobile Malaysia to create more work placement and practical job opportunities for students and graduates.

The partnership will cover areas including vehicle inspection, sales and aftersales.

Both organisations will work on trainee programmes that allow students to gain hands-on experience and develop their skills in actual automotive work environments.

JETOUR Malaysia Vice President Nicholas Ng said greater industry exposure can help bridge the gap between classroom learning and the realities of working in the automotive sector.

Five Years, Thousands Of People Trained

The Academy has also trained more than 8,000 employees, developed over 500 leaders and supported 280 scholarship recipients.

Its work now spans five key areas: vehicle inspection, TVET, corporate training, talent and job matching, as well as industry partnerships.

The Academy is also expanding beyond technical training with two new automotive sales TVET programmes — Certified Sales Professional and Certified Sales Excellence.

CARSOME Academy says these are the first known industry-led TVET programmes of their kind in Malaysia, combining practical automotive sales training with nationally recognised Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) certification.

CARSOME Academy CEO and CARSOME Group co-founder Teoh Jiun Ee said the organisation’s experience over the past five years showed how industry-led training could help turn education into real career opportunities.

With its latest programmes and partnerships, the Academy plans to continue expanding its role in connecting Malaysians with the skills, experience and employment opportunities needed by the automotive industry.

As CARSOME Academy enters its next five years, the focus will remain on developing a stronger and more future-ready automotive workforce.

Squishy toys have become a common sight in children’s bedrooms, school bags and even on parents’ desks.

They come in all sorts of cute shapes and colours, and their soft, squeezable texture makes them particularly appealing to young children.

But a recent social media post from a parent, who claimed that their child developed a bacterial infection after playing with an off-brand squishy toy, has raised questions about just how safe these toys really are.

The parent alleged that the toy contained harmful chemicals and was linked to the child’s infection. However, such an allegation has not been independently verified, so it should not be taken as proof that a particular toy caused the illness.

Still, the incident highlights a legitimate question: what should parents look out for when buying squishy toys?

Not All Squishy Toys Are The Same

There is no single material used to make squishy toys.

Depending on the product, they can contain polyurethane foam, silicone, rubber, thermoplastic materials, gels, liquids, powders, beads or other fillings.

US Poison Control notes that while many of these materials can be relatively low-risk when used as intended, problems can arise when toys are damaged, punctured, bitten or exposed to heat.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) also warned in August 2026 about counterfeit and fake squishy toys, saying some products had failed to meet safety requirements involving substances including lead and phthalates.

Some products can also contain water beads or other materials that become hazardous if swallowed.

According to a report by Canadian public broadcaster CBC, some off-brand and counterfeit squishy toys have been found to contain dangerous chemicals, including high levels of toxic lead, phthalates, and benzene (a known human carcinogen). Volatile chemicals can also evaporate into the air and be inhaled

Parents in Malaysia have even resorted to making homemade squishy toys for their kids

Referring to the earlier Threads post, other parents have shared squishy toys of their own making, using safe and chemical-free materials such as kitchen sponges wrapped in a cover of their own design.

The idea is clever, really. They used old food wrappers and packaging which doubles as a recycling practice.

Chemicals Are A Real Concern

Concerns about chemicals in inexpensive toys are not entirely new.

A study published in 2021 examined 30 inexpensive plastic toys sold in Kuala Lumpur and detected several types of phthalates, including DEHP, DBP, DEP and DIBP.

The researchers found DEHP in 73% of the samples tested and noted that some toys exceeded the European Union’s 0.1% limit for phthalates. The researchers also highlighted the potential exposure of young children because of their tendency to put objects in their mouths.

That does not mean every cheap or off-brand toy is dangerous. Nor does it establish that chemicals in a particular squishy toy caused an infection.

But it does show why buying children’s toys from reputable sellers and checking whether they meet safety requirements matters.

Check For The MC Mark

For Malaysian parents, one of the simplest things to check is the Malaysian Conformity (MC) mark.

Malaysia has mandatory safety requirements for children’s toys, with standards covering areas including mechanical and physical safety, flammability and the migration of certain chemical elements. The standards also include requirements relating to certain phthalates in toys and children’s products.

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDN) also frequently reminds parents to look for the MC mark when buying toys, including squishy toys, rather than choosing based solely on appearance or price. Parents are advised to check the age label, instructions and safety warnings as well.

For online purchases, KPDN recommends asking sellers to provide photographs of the product’s safety labelling or packaging if the information is unclear.

Give The Toy A Once-Over Before Letting Your Child Play

Even a compliant toy can become unsafe if it has been damaged.

Parents should regularly check squishy toys for:

• Tears, holes or cracks
• Leaking liquid or gel
• Pieces that are coming loose
• Strong or unusual chemical smells
• Damaged packaging or missing safety information
• Small parts that could become a choking hazard

Poison Control specifically recommends checking squishy toys regularly for holes, tears and leaking material, and advises against allowing children to play with toys that have started leaking.

And perhaps most importantly, don’t microwave or deliberately heat a squishy toy.

Various news reports have warned about social media trends involving heating squishy toys, while poison-control experts have documented cases involving serious burns when heated toys burst.

So, Should Parents Stop Buying Squishy Toys?

Not necessarily.

Squishy toys are not automatically dangerous, and many can be used safely when they are appropriate for a child’s age, meet applicable safety requirements and are used as intended.

The bigger lesson is that parents should not assume that every cute, inexpensive squishy toy sold online or at a random shop has gone through the same safety checks.

Look for the MC mark, check the manufacturer’s or importer’s information, follow the age recommendations and inspect the toy regularly.

And if a toy smells strongly of chemicals, leaks, breaks apart easily or has unclear safety information, there is little reason to take the risk.

A few minutes spent checking a toy may not seem like much, but when it comes to something a child is likely to squeeze, chew and carry around all day, it’s worth knowing exactly what you’re putting in their hands.

Li (not her real name), a Falun Gong practitioner from northeastern China, arrived in Malaysia in 2024 on a tourist visa.

She has not left since.

Neither has her mother, who is in her 80s.

In 2016, both women were sentenced by a Chinese court — Li to three years and six months, her mother to three years.

Their offence: practising Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline rooted in meditation and the principles of truthfulness, compassion and forbearance.

Her mother was over 70 at the time of sentencing.

Under Chinese law, elderly detainees are eligible for medical parole or supervised release.

She served the full term.

“She is an old woman,” Li said in an interview with TRP.

The law says she should not have been inside. They put her in anyway.

A Ban, a System, and a Decision to Leave

Falun Gong has been banned in China since 1999, when the Chinese Communist Party declared it a threat to social stability.

Since then, human rights organisations including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have documented widespread arrests, forced labour, torture and — in the most severe allegations — the harvesting of organs from imprisoned practitioners.

Li did not use the word “torture.”

She used the phrase fei ren dao de dai yu — treatment that is not human.

After their release, the harassment did not stop.

Police visited the family home on sensitive dates — the anniversaries of the 20 July 1999 crackdown, national holidays, politically charged weeks.

Officers asked where Li had been.

They asked what she had been doing; they already knew.

“They have a system,” Li said.

If someone reports you as a Falun Gong practitioner, the person who reports you gets a reward.

She and her mother decided to leave.

They Could Afford Malaysia

They chose Malaysia for reasons that had nothing to do with preference — it requires no visa for Chinese nationals, flights from China are direct and affordable, a Falun Gong community is already established there, and Malaysia, Li noted, does not have an extradition treaty with China.

The better place would be Europe or America. But we could only afford Malaysia.

In Kuala Lumpur, Li has registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

She has completed one interview; she is waiting.

She does not use WeChat — China’s dominant messaging platform, which researchers and digital rights groups say is subject to pervasive surveillance by Chinese authorities, with users in China arrested for content shared in private group chats — and communicates with her siblings instead through FaceTime on an iPhone.

Even then, she does not say the words; not on a call, not in a message, not in writing.

WeChat monitors everything. We cannot take the risk.

Her siblings, who do not practice Falun Gong, were questioned by police in the early years.

The visits have since stopped; Li is not certain why.

Falun Gong in Malaysia — A Tolerance That Has Held, Under Pressure

On weekends, Li goes to a public park in Kuala Lumpur.

She does her exercises, hands out flyers and tells people, if they ask, what Falun Gong is.

Nobody arrests her; Malaysia has never banned Falun Gong. From an international human-rights perspective, this is commendable and fortunate.

China has spent 27 years pressuring governments across Southeast Asia to suppress the practice entirely.

Malaysia — despite Beijing being its largest trading partner — has not obliged.

Practitioners meditate freely in public parks.

They hold candlelight vigils outside the Chinese Consulate on Jalan Ampang; they gather at Bukit Bintang.

They mark the anniversaries of China’s 1999 crackdown in public squares across Kuala Lumpur, year after year, with the tacit approval of the relevant authorities.

But the space has not always been comfortable.

A Country That Has Mostly Said Yes

In April 2025, authorities detained 76 practitioners during a private gathering two days before China’s state visit — a moment of acute diplomatic sensitivity.

They were released.

In August 2025, Chinese nationals identifying themselves as connected to a Chinese police station disrupted a Falun Gong display at Tugu Negara, seizing banners on Malaysian soil.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has at times restricted Falun Gong publications, citing diplomatic considerations, but it has not restricted the practice itself.

For Li and her mother — who served prison time in China simply for meditating — the distinction is not abstract.

China has spent 25 years saying no; Malaysia has mostly said yes — just not always, and not when it is politically inconvenient.

For a 70-year-old woman who was once told she could not even do her exercises in her own country, mostly is enough.

Li was asked whether she would ever return to China; she did not pause.

If I go back, I will be on their list. I have always been on their list.  If I return to China, I will face further persecution from the CCP: imprisonment, forced brainwashing, excessive forced labor, physical punishment if I refuse to renounce my beliefs, sleep deprivation, denial of washing and toilet access, and, if my blood type is a match, the risk of forced organ harvesting.

Her mother does her exercises in the same park.

In Malaysia, for now, nobody arrests her, and their gratitude to the Creator, the Malaysian government, and the UNHCR for allowing them to remain in Malaysia have been their daily prayer so far.

Malaysia has found another unlikely hero at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, and this time, he did it behind a virtual steering wheel.

E-sports racer Taj Izrin Aiman Taj Madira made history on Wednesday (23 September) after winning gold in the Gran Turismo 7 (GT7) event, giving Malaysia its second gold medal of the Games at the time.

The 27-year-old kept his cool through three races at Aichi Sky Expo in Japan, eventually finishing on top with 36 points.

According to The Star, e-sports was not necessarily among Malaysia’s main medal hopes heading into the Games, but Taj Izrin’s performance showed what was possible with the right preparation and guidance.

Not only that, but he also went viral on social media for competing bare-foot, and even showed signs of yawning in the competition footage as though the game was nothing but a leisurely afternoon drive.

Malaysians were not only impressed by his win, but also how nonchalant he was in his participation.

“He was so chill, playing barefoot and even yawned, but still managed to bring home the gold,” one Threads user said.

“He just woke up from a nap, forgot to put his shoes on, next thing he knew, he got the gold medal,” said another user.

What is Gran Turismo 7?

Gran Turismo 7 is a 2022 simulation racing video game developed by Polyphony Digital and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Known as “The Real Driving Simulator,” it combines realistic car physics with a deep celebration of car culture.

It features over 550 meticulously recreated cars from more than 70 automotive brands and over 90 track routes with dynamic weather.

A Comeback Behind The Wheel

Taj Izrin did not have the easiest route to the gold.

He finished second in each of the first two races, collecting 16 points and leaving himself with work to do in the final race.

With the gold medal still within reach, Taj Izrin stepped up in the decider. He secured pole position and went on to win the race, giving him enough points to finish at the top of the overall standings.

Saudi Arabia’s Naif Abdulhakim S. Alfaleh took silver, while South Korea’s Kim Youngchan claimed bronze.

The victory was also particularly significant for Malaysian e-sports.

The Malaysian Esports Federation (MESF) said Taj Izrin became the country’s first e-sports representative to win an Asian Games gold medal.

From Gaming To Representing Malaysia

While GT7 is played on a screen, Taj Izrin’s preparation for the Asian Games has been treated seriously.

MESF president Muhammad Naim Al Amin Saharudin said Taj Izrin was among the first batch of national e-sports athletes to benefit from the National Sports Council’s Podium Programme.

He credited the programme, as well as Taj Izrin and his coach, for helping produce the historic result.

Taj Izrin is also coached by former Malaysian Formula 1 driver Alex Yoong, according to reports.

His gold is a significant step forward for Malaysian e-sports at the Asian Games. At the previous 2022 Hangzhou edition, Malaysia’s best e-sports results were a silver medal from the Arena of Valor team and bronze from the Dota 2 squad.

This time around, Malaysia is competing in nine of the 11 e-sports events at the Games, with MESF targeting at least five medals.

More Than Just A Video Game

Taj Izrin’s victory also comes as e-sports continues to become a more established part of major sporting events.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated Taj Izrin following his victory, saying his achievement could serve as an example for young Malaysians who are interested in gaming.

For Taj Izrin, however, the achievement was clearly more than just another race.

The Star reported that the racer was visibly emotional after securing the gold, capturing just how much the victory meant to him and the Malaysian contingent.

And with Malaysia continuing its medal hunt in Aichi-Nagoya, Taj Izrin has already made sure his name will be remembered as one of the country’s e-sports pioneers.

A vape device engineered to pass as an ordinary school marker pen has circulated on social media — and discipline teachers across Malaysia are not laughing.

A Threads user, @Abcdefghijaz_, posted an image of the device on (22 Sep), noting its near-identical resemblance to a standard marker pen, complete with what appeared to be a printed brand label on its exterior.

The post drew immediate and widespread reaction.

“Marker pen, no. Vape, yes. Already looks like a marker pen. Tough job for discipline teachers — have to keep up with current developments,” the user wrote.

The vape in question carries the physical profile of a marker pen commonly found in Malaysian classrooms — cylindrical, capped, and labelled.

Without close inspection, the distinction from a legitimate stationery item is not immediately apparent.

The design represents a documented escalation in the concealment methods used to bring vape devices into school premises.

The post drew a swift and largely alarmed response from educators and members of the public.

The response in the comments was swift.

Educators called it frightening.

One predicted a pencil-shaped version was already on the way.

Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan Negara) has questioned whether there were “hidden hands” behind the Registrar of Societies (RoS) notices issued against Perikatan Nasional (PN), pointing to their timing which coincided with the announcement of the dissolution of the Melaka state legislative assembly.

In a statement today, Wawasan Negara said it had been informed of the action by the RoS to suspend PN, as well as two notices issued to the coalition on Sept 22 and 23.

The first notice, dated Sept 22, was a Notice of Intention to Cancel Registration issued under Subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966.

The second notice, dated Sept 23, was a Suspension Order issued under Subsection 13(2A) of the same Act.

Wawasan Negara said it was informed of the notices through a statement issued by PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan today.

The party, led by Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, questioned whether the timing of the notices indicated the involvement of “hidden hands”, given that they were issued around the same time Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced the dissolution of the state legislative assembly.

Claims Action Politically Motivated

Wawasan Negara alleged that the RoS action was politically motivated and intended to prevent PN from contesting in the upcoming Melaka state election.

The party said the timing of the notices raised questions over whether the move was intended to disrupt PN’s preparations for the polls, which are expected to be held soon following the dissolution of the state assembly.

The RoS action comes amid an internal dispute involving PN and one of its component parties, Bersatu, following a complaint by Bersatu concerning a PN meeting held on July 16.

PN has said it disagrees with the basis of the RoS action and intends to pursue available legal avenues to defend the coalition’s establishment and political agenda.

The Melaka state legislative assembly was dissolved on Sept 23, paving the way for the state election.

The new tallest Buddha statue in Malaysia can be found at the Buddhism New Village in Bau, Sarawak.

Inspired by the legendary Buddhas of Bamiyan in Afghanistan, the giant Sakyamuni Buddha stands at around 40 to 43 metres tall (130 to 140 feet).

The statue was built under the leadership of the Kuching Buddhist Society (KBS), with structural planning beginning in mid-2023 and construction completed in March 2025.

Buddhism New Village is open to visitors year-round, from 8am to 4.30pm. It features elegant pavilions, the 9-storey Lotus Sutra Pagoda, traditional Chinese architecture, and tranquil scenery. It’s also home to a well-regarded vegetarian restaurant for visitors looking for a bite to eat.

Malaysia’s tallest Buddha statue title was previously held by the Standing Buddha in Wat Phothikyan Phutthaktham, Bachok, Kelantan, at 39 metres.

An Ipoh gadget shop owner was fined RM40,000 on Thursday (24 Sept) for possessing 529 counterfeit Oppo smartphones – well under the RM5.29 million maximum he could have faced under the law.

Wong Soon Yaw, 37, owner of M One Gadget, pleaded guilty before Sessions Court judge Ainul Sharin Mohamad. He faced 12 months in jail if he failed to pay, but settled the fine on the spot. Wong was unrepresented in court.

Wong was found in possession of the 529 phones, of various models and colours, at his company’s premises in Jalan Besar Gunung Rapat.

The units bore counterfeit versions of trademarks belonging to Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications Corp Ltd, including the ‘Oppo’ name.

The charge was framed under Section 102(1)(c) of the Trademarks Act 2019 (Act 815), punishable under Section 102(1)(c)(ii) – a maximum fine of RM10,000 per item, up to three years’ jail, or both, for a first offence.

That penalty scales to RM20,000 per item, up to five years’ jail, or both, for repeat offences.

The court ordered the phones returned to the government for disposal through the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).

How The Case Started, Part Of A Wider Pattern

The phones were seized in a KPDN raid on 5 February, after a complaint about the use of the Oppo trademark at the premises.

A joint investigation with a representative of the trademark owner confirmed the phones were counterfeit.

At the time, KPDN Perak director Kamalludin Ismail said corporate entities convicted under the Act face fines of up to RM15,000 per item for a first offence, rising to RM30,000 per item for repeat offences, and that continuous monitoring of premises selling branded goods was part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts.

The Ipoh case joins a string of counterfeit-goods busts KPDN has carried out nationwide this year – RM1.4 million in fake perfumes and skincare seized in KL in February, RM790,600 in counterfeit watches in March, RM600,000 in branded goods across Johor Bahru in June, and RM292,800 in counterfeit clothing in Petaling Jaya in July.

A separate Ipoh raid in April turned up another 1,107 counterfeit mobile phone parts and accessories worth RM21,415.

Malaysia’s first halal airline, Rayani Air, has announced a return after nearly a decade of dormancy — and its target this time is not budget travellers, but pilgrims bound for Mecca.

The carrier confirmed plans to relaunch as Rayani Air 2.0 HALAL, with an Airbus A330-300 widebody aircraft planned for 2027.

The new operation focuses exclusively on hajj and umrah charter flights, a deliberate departure from the scheduled domestic routes that defined — and ultimately could not sustain — its first iteration.

The original Rayani Air operated scheduled commercial routes in direct competition with established carriers.

It ceased operations in 2016 after the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) suspended its Air Operator Certificate, citing safety and operational concerns.

The 2.0 version does not attempt to replicate that model.

Charter operations carry lower regulatory exposure on route competition, more predictable demand cycles tied to the hajj calendar, and a captive customer base with strong religious motivation to travel.

In strategic terms, the airline that shut down and the airline now seeking to return are not the same business.

The name is the same; the runway is different.

The Collision Course With Amal

The pivot places Rayani Air 2.0 in direct competition with Amal by Malaysia Airlines, the national carrier’s dedicated Muslim pilgrimage brand and the world’s first ISO-certified hajj airline.

Amal operates with the full backing of Malaysia Airlines’ widebody fleet, its Kuala Lumpur hub infrastructure, and long-established B2B relationships with the country’s major pilgrimage travel agencies.

It holds the category it created.

Rayani Air 2.0 plans to enter that category with a single A330-300.

The announcement precedes any confirmed air operator certification for the relaunched entity.

The timeline — aircraft introduction in 2027, regulatory approvals pending — means the competitive threat to Amal remains, for now, a scheduled one.

A Finite Market, An Unissued Licence, No Response From Anyone

Malaysia’s annual hajj quota, managed by Lembaga Tabung Haji, represents a finite and heavily regulated pool of pilgrims.

Access to that market is not determined by aircraft type or halal branding alone.

The original Rayani Air understood that appeal well.

Launched in 2015, it was among the first airlines globally to ban alcohol and pork on board, play Quranic recitations during flight, and require female cabin crew to wear the tudung.

The positioning was genuine; the operations were not sustainable.

It is determined by approved operator status, agency partnerships, and a track record that Rayani Air 2.0 has not yet had the opportunity to build.

Amal by Malaysia Airlines has not issued a response to the announcement.

CAAM and Lembaga Tabung Haji had not issued statements on the relaunch as of the time of publication.

Outspoken Muslim convert preacher and academic Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah has directed criticism at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), questioning the logic of running public campaigns to promote a language that is, by law, mandatory for all Malaysians — while Malaysia Airlines (MAS), the national carrier, has removed Bahasa Melayu entirely from its in-flight lifestyle magazine.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday (23 Sep), Tee, whose name was Tee Chuan Seng before he converted, said DBP’s campaign efforts were misplaced.

“BM adalah bahasa negara, wajib dikuasai rakyat,” he wrote, arguing that a compulsory national language should not require a promotional drive.

He then pointed to in-flight publications as a more pressing concern, noting that MAS once carried at least one page in Bahasa Melayu in its magazine.

Malaysia Airlines’ in-flight magazine, Going Places, is published primarily in English—a format consistent with most international carriers, where English serves as the default language of global aviation and international travel.

Airlines cite several operational reasons for the approach: English maximises readability across a diverse international passenger base, aligns with civil aviation’s globally mandated language standards, and reduces production costs and physical weight from maintaining multilingual print layouts.

What People Said

The comments section did not stay calm for long.

Most of Tee’s followers agreed with him.

Several pointed to vernacular schools as the same problem in a different building — one commenter noted that a national school in Semeling had Bahasa Melayu in exactly one place: the word “KELUAR” above the exit door.

Others went after the government directly.

One commenter pointed out that the Prime Minister holds a degree in Bahasa Melayu.

The observation was not made as a compliment.

But not everyone was there for the policy debate.

A portion of the comments turned toward racial remarks, with several directed at Chinese Malaysians.

Tee himself also received a share — at least two commenters questioned his standing to speak on Malay language issues, given that he is an ethnic Chinese Muslim convert.

A Pattern Of Posts

The post arrives amid a pattern of public commentary from Tee on language visibility in Malaysian public life.

In August, he drew widespread debate after questioning why a Hungry Ghost Festival banner in Ampang carried no Bahasa Melayu.

Tee, who is also Deputy President of Muafakat Nasional (MN), a political NGO turned advocacy group led by former minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa, followed that with criticism of commercial signboards in Cheras.

A police report was lodged against him the same month over alleged racial discord in his social media posts.

Critics frequently accuse Tee of trying to be “more Malay than the Malays themselves.

This phrase is a common piece of feedback directed at him by political opponents, social media commentators, and members of the Chinese community who find his aggressively pro-Malay, right-wing stances ironic given his own Chinese heritage.

DBP and Malaysia Airlines had not responded to the remarks at the time of publication.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has the power to determine how former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s house arrest should be implemented, said constitutional law expert Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Wan Ahmad Fauzi Wan Husain.

When contacted by TRP today, Wan Ahmad Fauzi said but the conditions governing it should be proposed by the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) for Agong’s approval.

Wan Ahmad Fauzi also said Najib’s conditional pardon should not be interpreted as wiping out his conviction or criminal record, but rather as a form of respite involving how the remainder of his sentence is served.

“In Najib’s context, although the term used is conditional pardon, it cannot be said that once he pays RM50 million and serves the remainder under house arrest, the conviction is erased. No. His record remains,” he said.

He said the issue should instead be viewed in the context of respite, whereby the manner in which a sentence is served is altered from imprisonment in a correctional facility to house arrest.

House Arrest Must Have Clear Legal Basis

With Najib expected to begin serving the remainder of his sentence under house arrest after paying the RM50 million fine, questions have emerged over how the arrangement will work in practice — including whether he can order food through online platforms, tend to the flowers in his compound, or even go live on social media and update his followers.

According to Wan Ahmad Fauzi, such conditions should be clearly set out in writing and made public to ensure transparency and avoid ambiguity over what Najib can and cannot do while under house arrest.

He stressed that the implementation of house arrest could not be ambiguous or unclear and must be anchored to an existing law or an appropriate legal mechanism.

“So, if it is to be implemented, it must refer to which law is applicable. There cannot be a new invention,” he said.

He said the Prisons Act could provide one possible legal reference, pointing to Section 3, which allows the Minister to designate a place as a prison.

The Attorney General has said the Prisons Department will issue the standard operating procedures (SOP) for implementing Najib’s house arrest, including matters relating to visits, security controls and monitoring of his movements.

AGC Should Advise On Implementation

Wan Ahmad Fauzi said if existing legislation did not sufficiently provide for the implementation mechanism, the Attorney General should advise on the appropriate procedure under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.

He said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, as chairman of the Pardons Board, has constitutional prerogative in matters involving pardon, reprieve and respite.

“The Attorney General must advise through the existing law, or through an appropriate SOP but it must be something that can be seen and assessed by the public, so that the public can see accountability, wisdom and justice,” he said.

He said clear procedures were important to prevent misunderstandings and allegations arising from a lack of transparency.

“If it is not clear, it opens up room for slander, misunderstanding and so on. There must be transparency.”

Najib Is Still Not Free

The Federal Territories Pardons Board announced on Sept 18 that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia had granted Najib a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of a RM50 million fine and compliance with the stipulated conditions.

The Attorney General has also confirmed that Najib has yet to pay the RM50 million fine, while police and the Prisons Department have begun preparations and security assessments at his residence.

Wan Ahmad Fauzi said the key issue now was ensuring that the legal basis and operational framework for the house arrest were sufficiently clear.

He said this would allow the public to understand how the arrangement would work and ensure that the exercise of the King’s constitutional prerogative was implemented with accountability and transparency.

A teenager involved in the fatal stabbing of a schoolmate in Bandar Utama had been experiencing symptoms of severe mental illness for around five years before the incident, according to the full grounds of judgment released by the High Court.

The judgment found that the boy had developed very early-onset schizophrenia from around the age of nine, but did not receive a psychiatric assessment during those years.

The case came to light again after the High Court on 14 September acquitted the teenager of murder on the grounds that he was of unsound mind when the incident happened.

The details were based on the court’s full judgment released on 23 September, as reported by The Star.

Signs Had Been Present For Years

According to High Court judge Justice Adlin Abdul Majid, symptoms of the teenager’s illness had been documented through family accounts, school records and observations by teachers.

These reportedly included social withdrawal, unusual beliefs, refusing to remove his mask, chronic lateness and fears linked to voices he said he could hear.

However, the symptoms were understood as behavioural or disciplinary issues rather than signs of an underlying psychiatric condition.

The judge said the illness had therefore continued untreated while the teenager was still going through childhood development.

The court-appointed consultant forensic psychiatrist, Dr Ian Lloyd Anthony, later assessed the teenager and concluded that he suffered from very early-onset schizophrenia, accompanied by psychopathic and sadistic traits.

His Condition Became More Severe

The court heard that the teenager’s mental state deteriorated significantly in the year leading up to the stabbing.

Justice Adlin said the boy developed an intense infatuation with the 16-year-old victim from around August 2024, including following her around school and creating separate social media accounts to monitor her online.

His feelings eventually developed into what the psychiatric report described as an erotomanic delusion — a belief that the victim returned his feelings.

By March 2025, the teenager reportedly began experiencing auditory hallucinations, including a voice he associated with an individual instructing him to kill the victim.

He also developed grandiose delusions, believing himself to be a god-like figure who had the authority to eliminate people he considered unworthy.

The court was told that he had also purchased a Death Note notebook and written down the names of four schoolmates, including the eventual victim.

He Also Assaulted His Mother Shortly Before The Stabbing

The court also heard that his behaviour had become increasingly concerning in the weeks leading up to the killing.

According to a psychiatric report cited by the New Straits Times, the teenager assaulted his mother just 13 days before the fatal stabbing.

He reportedly pushed her to the ground when she tried to check his school bag, causing her to hit her head.

The report also detailed previous incidents involving two classmates, while attempts to address his behaviour through school counselling were described as unsuccessful.

What Happened On The Day

On 14 October 2025, the teenager entered a female toilet at his school armed with knives and confronted the victim.

He stabbed her repeatedly before leaving the toilet. He subsequently discarded his weapons, except for one knife, and was eventually disarmed by his brother.

According to the judgment, the teenager was experiencing active psychosis at the time.

The court heard that he perceived the victim through a distorted, fictionalised view of reality and did not fully understand that he was taking the life of another person.

Justice Adlin found that his schizophrenia had affected his ability to understand the nature of his actions and recognise that they were wrong or against the law.

What Happened After The Stabbing?

Following his arrest, the teenager was eventually admitted to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta on 22 October 2025, where he came under Dr Anthony’s care.

The psychiatrist testified that the teenager’s hallucinations stopped within about three weeks of beginning antipsychotic medication, while his delusional beliefs also began to subside.

The doctor also observed that the teenager started interacting warmly with his family again, something that had reportedly not been seen for several years.

Based on the psychiatric evidence, Justice Adlin concluded that the teenager was suffering from schizophrenia and was of unsound mind when the stabbing occurred.

The High Court therefore acquitted him of murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code on the grounds of unsoundness of mind.

Instead of being released, he was ordered to remain at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta for treatment at the pleasure of the Sultan of Selangor.

A Case That Raises Questions About Early Intervention

In her judgment, Justice Adlin highlighted the importance of recognising serious mental health problems in children before they develop into more severe conditions.

The case showed how symptoms of a serious psychiatric illness could remain misunderstood for years, particularly when they appeared as changes in behaviour, school problems or social withdrawal.

The judge expressed hope that the case would encourage parents, schools, the healthcare system and the wider public to better recognise warning signs of mental illness among children and seek appropriate help earlier.

The judgment ultimately placed the focus not only on what happened on the day of the stabbing, but also on the years of untreated illness that preceded it.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke has insisted that he will not remain in office after announcing his decision to quit the Cabinet.

According to Bernama, the DAP secretary-general said he would tender his resignation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim upon returning to Malaysia following his official visit to China.

“The decision has been made. I will submit the resignation letter to the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) when I return home,” he was quoted as saying.

Several parties, including PAS questioned why Loke remained in office despite previously announcing his intention to quit.

However, Anwar said he would not rush to accept Loke’s resignation and wanted an explanation from the Seremban MP.

The Prime Minister also said DAP should not bow to pressure from other parties calling for its ministers and deputy ministers to leave the Government, warning that such a move could destabilise the Madani Government.

“Some people ask, why (just) Anthony Loke? (They say) all of DAP (ministers and deputy ministers) should leave. Whose suggestion is that? Why should he leave? He did nothing wrong. He was not the one who proposed (the pardon). In fact, he tried his best to oppose it.

“So I think DAP should not bow to pressure from those with vested interests who want the government to become unstable. They are looking for ways to weaken the government through these dirty tactics,” Anwar said in another Bernama report.

Loke announced on Sept 19 that he would resign as Transport Minister following DAP’s decision to take a stand against the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

However, other DAP ministers and deputy ministers would remain in the Unity Government.

A steakhouse in Kuala Lumpur recently drew criticism for a promotional video it shared on Instagram.

Malaysians question restaurant’s decision to use Malay Muslim talents in video

The video, along with the restaurant’s official Instagram account, has since been taken down, but the promotional clip has been screen recorded and reuploaded on social media.

One Threads user asked why was a Malay Muslim woman promoting a restaurant that also serves pork?

The post included the controversial video as well as a screenshot of the restaurant’s menu.

One of the menu items was Lemongrass Spanish Ibérico Pork.

Many were puzzled by the business’ marketing decision, while some accused it of having intentions to insult or mock Islam.

“Who is this woman? It looks like they were purposely dressed that way to mock Muslim consumers,” one Threads user commented.

Some also speculated the couple might not even be Malay or Muslim, just dressed in typical Muslim clothes.

TRP has reached out to the restaurant for comments.

No civil law that explicitly bans Muslims from working for non-halal establishments

There is no specific civil law in Malaysia that explicitly bans a non-halal or non-certified business from employing Muslims or featuring them in general commercial promotions (such as modelling or administrative work).

However, misleading consumers about the halal status of food (e.g. falsely claiming a non-halal kitchen is “halal” or “pork-free” in a way that deceives Muslim buyers) can run afoul of the Trade Descriptions Act or local consumer protection laws.

With that said, Islamic law (Syariah) forbids Muslims to consume non-halal food (such as pork, lard, or non-certified meat) or to knowingly promote, endorse, or market forbidden (haram) food and beverages to other Muslims.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) will challenge the Registrar of Societies (RoS) decision to initiate action to cancel the coalition’s registration, with its secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan saying the coalition is taking immediate legal steps to defend its existence and political agenda.

Takiyuddin said PN had received a notice under Subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966, giving the coalition 30 days to show cause why its registration should not be cancelled.

He said the proposed cancellation was linked to a complaint by Bersatu against PN concerning a meeting held on July 16, 2026.

PN subsequently received an order under Subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966 directing the suspension of all its activities until further notice, he said.

The two documents were served on PN on Sept 22 and 23 respectively, coinciding with the announcement and coming into effect of the dissolution of the Melaka state legislative assembly ahead of the state election.

“PN takes note of the RoS decision but does not agree with the basis of the decision and is taking immediate steps through the legal processes available to defend the objectives of its establishment and the agenda it fights for, which is supported by its members and supporters,” Takiyuddin said in a statement.

PN Does Not Rule Out ‘Mala Fide’ Agenda

Takiyuddin also said that PN believes that this decision is an attempt to sabotage the coalition.

“PN does not rule out the possibility that the action against PN is the result of a mala fide agenda and political pressure that has victimised PN by parties from within and outside PN,” he said, stopping short at naming the parties he was referring to.

Takiyuddin also urged PN members and supporters to remain calm, saying the matter was being handled through the appropriate channels.

He said PN would provide relevant information and documents to the public transparently and keep them informed of developments from time to time.

PN Imposes Immediate Gag Order

Meanwhile, Takiyuddin said PN had imposed an immediate gag order on all parties from issuing statements on behalf of the coalition.

He said only the PN chairman and secretary-general would be authorised to issue statements on behalf of the coalition.

The development comes amid an internal dispute between PN and Bersatu, which had lodged a complaint with RoS concerning its position within the coalition.

RoS had previously confirmed receiving Bersatu’s complaint, including allegations that the party was not involved in the PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16 and issues concerning its membership status in the coalition.

The possible deregistration of PN could derail its political cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN), after the two coalitions successfully forged an electoral pact in Johor and Negeri Sembilan, with plans to continue their cooperation in the upcoming Melaka state election.

The Melaka state legislative assembly was officially dissolved yesterday, paving the way for the state election.

Eight minors aged between 13 and 18 were among those arrested for possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in a joint operation by Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

During the press conference, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said the minors were investigated for possessing and selling animated CSAM made using artificial intelligence (AI).

He said it was a worrying trend and poses serious implications, adding that those arrested included minors and civil servants.

Kumar said the civil servants arrested were a 24-year-old teacher and a 44-year-old laboratory assistant from another school. The teacher was among 53 of 92 “targets” nabbed nationwide in Operation Pedo 3.0, a months-long investigation that saw only one foreign national arrested among a largely Malaysian group.

Police seized a total of 95 items during the raids, including 90 digital devices, among them mobile phones, computers, laptops, tablets, storage devices, routers and modems, along with five sex toys.

Preliminary checks revealed that these devices held 653,193 digital files in total, of which 540,127 were child sexual abuse material and 113,066 were adult pornography.

As a result of the operation, police opened 52 investigation papers. Of these, 23 have already been brought before the courts, while the remaining 29 are still being investigated.

A media report cited a source who confirmed that Perikatan Nasional (PN) received a notice from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) on Tuesday (22 Sep), giving the coalition 30 days to explain why its registration should not be cancelled.

According to the source, the notice was conveyed to PN’s Chairman, Secretary-General, and all component parties.

“Yes, I can confirm that is accurate, but I am not certain to whom exactly the notice was handed — whether to the Chairman or the Secretary-General. I was informed that the Secretary-General will also be issuing a statement on this matter,” the source told Berita Harian.

Component parties have also been instructed not to use the PN logo in any activities until the RoS makes a final decision, Berita Harian understands.

RoS has been contacted by the press for comment.

No further information has been provided as of press time, though a formal statement from the agency is expected shortly.

A Dispute Months in the Making

The development follows an internal dispute within PN after BERSATU lodged a formal complaint with RoS on 11 August.

RoS had previously confirmed receiving the complaint, which included allegations that BERSATU was excluded from a PN Supreme Council meeting on 16 July, and raised questions over the party’s membership status within the coalition.

On Saturday (19 Sep), BERSATU President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin called on RoS to decide promptly on the complaint, citing eight matters he alleged PN’s leadership had violated.

A screenshot circulating on social media purportedly shows a notice dated 22 September 2026 from RoS, giving PN’s Chairman 30 days to submit a written representation.

A second document in the same circulation, dated 23 September 2026, purportedly orders the immediate suspension of all PN activities and use of its name under Subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966 [Act 852].

Sinar Harian reported it had contacted PN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and Parti Wawasan Negara Secretary-General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah for comment.

Neither had responded at the time of publication.

The Clock Is Now Running

If the notice is legitimate, PN has 30 days from Tuesday to submit a formal written defence to RoS.

If the Registrar proceeds with deregistration, PN may pursue a judicial review.

If BERSATU and PN’s remaining leadership reach a negotiated settlement before the window closes, the complaint’s basis could be withdrawn.

Neither PN’s leadership nor RoS had issued a public statement at the time of writing.

Media outlets reported that they have actively reached out to PN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and other coalition leaders, but they have yet to respond or issue a formal comment on the 30-day show-cause notice.

Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, BERSATU’s Information Chief, previously accused PAS of being “power-hungry” and trying to pre-empt the RoS by falsely claiming BERSATU was structurally invalid or lacked a meeting quorum.

He insisted that until the RoS officially ruled, PAS had no authority to lock BERSATU out of Supreme Council activities.

The crisis unfolds ahead of the Melaka state election, and amid circulating speculation that Pakatan Harapan (PH) may be exploring an electoral understanding with BERSATU — a prospect that would fundamentally redraw Malaysia’s opposition landscape.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has standardised the entry fee for e-hailing vehicles at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to RM2, inclusive of tax, across Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

The new rate took effect on 16 September.

The fee was previously RM3 at Terminal 1 and RM2.16 at Terminal 2.

MAHB said the standardisation is meant to give passengers and e-hailing operators a single, consistent rate across both terminals.

The change builds on enhanced e-hailing facilities introduced at Terminal 1 in August.

That rollout included an LPR system integrated with PIDS, self-service kiosks, indoor waiting areas, structured pick-up bays, and on-ground marshals.

It also introduced the RM3 entry fee and a 10-minute maximum kerbside stay, with penalty charges for drivers who exceed it.

MAHB said the system was developed following engagement with e-hailing operators, the Ministry of Transport, and APAD, based on National Action Framework Working Committee (NAFWC) recommendations.

Operational Numbers Since The Upgrade

MAHB said 99.3% of e-hailing drivers now complete passenger pick-ups and exit within the 10-minute grace period, up from 49.4% before the upgrade.

Peak-hour processing capacity rose from 302 to 660 vehicles per hour.

Daily vehicle volume entering the pick-up lanes fell 13.5%, from 8,124 to 7,024 vehicles.

KLIA senior general manager for passenger experience Abd Hasman Abd Muhimin said the improvements reflect the airport’s commitment to a smoother passenger pick-up journey.

“At KLIA, every part of the passenger journey matters, including the experience of getting to and from the airport,” he said.

“By providing passengers with a comfortable indoor space to wait and giving drivers clearer timeframes, we are seeing better compliance, faster vehicle turnover and improved traffic flow.”

The RM2 fee now applies uniformly across both KLIA terminals.
