Nu-metal icons Limp Bizkit are finally making their long-awaited Malaysian debut.

Concert organiser Hitman Live has announced that the American rock band will perform at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil on 9 December, 2026, in what is being promoted as the band’s only Asia stop on the tour.

Tickets will go on sale on 30 June at noon via Hitman Live.

For a generation of rock and metal fans who grew up blasting tracks such as Break Stuff, Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle), My Way and Nookie, the announcement marks the end of a wait that has stretched more than two decades.

Led by frontman Fred Durst, Limp Bizkit emerged as one of the defining acts of the late 1990s and early 2000s nu-metal boom, selling millions of albums worldwide and becoming a staple of MTV-era rock culture.

Limp Bizkit’s arrival also comes amid a broader resurgence of interest in 1990s and 2000s rock and nu-metal.

Bands once considered relics of the CD era are finding themselves back in demand, with sold-out tours and festival headline slots across North America, Europe and Latin America.

Online discussions and fan communities frequently point to a new generation discovering the genre, while older fans embrace the nostalgia factor.

Malaysia has similarly seen a growing appetite for legacy rock acts.

Recent years have brought performances from international rock and metal heavyweights, while 2026 alone has seen a wave of announcements targeting fans who came of age during the genre’s peak.

There will be no room for Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) two newest component parties — Parti Cinta Malaysia, which has since been rebranded as Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan), and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) — to contest in the upcoming Johor state election.

This is despite both parties having submitted lists of constituencies they hoped to contest in the state election.

According to PN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, seat negotiations for the elections involved only the coalition’s four original component parties.

“Seat negotiations only involve four parties,” Tuan Ibrahim told TRP in a brief response.

He was referring to PAS, Bersatu, Gerakan and the Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP), which make up PN’s founding coalition members.

Several Wawasan and Pejuang leaders contacted by TRP either remained tight-lipped or maintained that discussions were still ongoing, suggesting that both parties are still hopeful of contesting under PN’s banner in the upcoming Johor election.

Meanwhile, PN election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor confirmed that seat negotiations among the coalition’s component parties had been concluded, describing the discussions as smooth and harmonious.

In a somewhat surprising development, Bersatu is expected to contest a significant number of the 56 seats up for grabs in Johor, despite the party’s political ties with PAS — one of PN’s key components — having been formally severed by the Islamist party earlier this month.

“The largest share (of seats) will go to Bersatu. Every party submitted its proposed list based on its own confidence and assessment. We then evaluated the merits of each claim.

“The considerations include party machinery, voter support, experience of prospective candidates, incumbency and previous electoral performance.

“These are the factors that determine who should be considered for a particular seat. That chapter is closed. My mission of negotiating seat allocations is complete. Alhamdulillah,” Sanusi was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.

Both Pejuang and Wawasan are splinter parties of Bersatu that were admitted into PN following an emergency meeting of the coalition’s supreme council held at PAS headquarters on Monday night.

Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi should respect the party’s decisions, which have given him various positions and privileges over the years, said senior Johor Umno leader Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

Nur Jazlan stressed that party members must remain aligned with collective decisions made by Umno, adding that internal discipline and respect for party leadership were essential, particularly when commenting on electoral strategy and candidate selection.

He also referred to Puad, who is also an Umno Supreme Council member, and his suggestion that the party field candidates under the age of 50, noting that the principle had not been consistently applied in previous elections.

“In 2022 Johor state election, when he (Puad) offered himself as a candidate for the Rengit state seat at the age of 65, that recommendation was not something he himself applied to his own case,” Nur Jazlan told TRP when contacted.

Nur Jazlan, who is also a member of the Umno Supreme Council, said Puad should recognise that his current role and influence differ from his previous position within the Johor Umno leadership structure.

“When he was part of the Johor Umno liaison committee, his views carried more weight. We took his input seriously then,” he said.

However, Nur Jazlan added that Puad’s current positions at various levels of government meant he should exercise greater restraint and prioritise party unity in his public statements.

He added that Puad had benefited greatly from Umno throughout his political career and that it was now time for him to give back to the party, rather than create discord.

“Now he has served as an MP, a senator, and held several other roles. At this stage, he should appreciate what the party has given him and act accordingly.”

Nur Jazlan was referring to Puad’s statement today that he would be making an important announcement this coming Saturday, during the Johor state election nomination day, after finding something is not right with the Johor Umno state chapter.

Puad had previously said that he would not be seeking reelection due to his age and suggested that those who contested for BN in the upcoming election should be 50 years old and below.

However, his Facebook post today appeared to suggest that he may act against the Johor BN decision regarding the upcoming election.

The Johor state election is slated on July 11.

When Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau Hoe Chai attacked DAP over Selangor’s restrictions on non-Muslim houses of worship, the response had almost nothing to do with temples or churches.

It had everything to do with PAS.

Commenter after commenter bypassed the substance of his complaint entirely. Instead, they pointed to the same thing: Gerakan is a component party of Perikatan Nasional (PN) — the coalition that includes PAS, whose Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu government has spent years restricting betting outlets and lottery shops that serve non-Muslim communities.

“You sleep with PAS, and now you want to defend temples?” one commenter wrote.

The sentiment was repeated, in varying degrees of contempt, across the thread.

None of them disputed the facts Lau raised.

They just didn’t care who was raising them.

What The Complaint Was Actually About

The Selangor Community Facilities Planning Guidelines were passed by the state executive council on 7 November, 2025 — and then again on 12 November, five days later, by the same people.

The public found out six months later; the document spelling out the restrictions costs RM300 a copy.

Under the original guidelines, non-Muslim places of worship were barred from commercial zones — a direct problem for the hundreds of temples, churches and prayer halls that have operated out of shophouses for decades because there was nowhere else to go.

Non-Muslim worship buildings were also capped at 72 feet (roughly 21.9 metres) to maintain uniformity with nearby mosques.

The Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) said the rules conflicted with Articles 3, 8 and 11 of the Federal Constitution — covering the status of Islam, equality before the law, and freedom of religion.

No non-Muslim religious body was consulted during drafting. Representatives were only called in on 29 May — after public outrage had already erupted — and given two weeks to respond.

On Silence, And Staying Anyway

Lau directed his sharpest question at DAP Selangor chairman and State Special Committee for Non-Islamic Affairs (LIMAS) chairman Ng Sze Han: was he in the room when the executive council approved these guidelines in November? Did he raise an objection, or did he say nothing?

“Silence,” he wrote, “is also an answer.”

It was a pointed line — and not without irony; in August 2023, Lau himself was asked to leave a PN event in Penang by a PAS official.

He stayed in the coalition anyway, PAS leadership later apologised for the incident; Lau accepted, and carried on.

Then Selangor Quietly Fixed It

On 21 June — two days before Lau’s post — the state government had already revised the guidelines.

Following a third round of consultation with faith community representatives at Bangunan SSAAS in Shah Alam, Ng announced a series of changes that walked back the most contested rules.

The 72-foot height cap is gone, and non-Muslim worship buildings can now be constructed at any height, provided the design is in harmony with the surrounding area.

Commercial, industrial and institutional properties are now officially permitted as places of worship — a formal recognition of what has been the ground reality for decades.

Developers building new housing areas with at least 5,000 residents must now surrender a minimum of 1.5 acres of land for non-Muslim religious use, along with roads, water and electricity.

The Council of Churches of Malaysia (CCM) called the revisions “more inclusive and fair.”

The controversy involving the alleged obstruction of caretaker Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi from entering a Felda area stems from the lack of clarity within the Unity Government coalition, says senior Johor Umno leader Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

Nur Jazlan said the confusion reflected deeper issues within the coalition cooperation framework, which he claimed had both positive and negative dimensions but was currently being misunderstood and inconsistently applied.

The Dewan Negara deputy president and Umno Supreme Council Leader member said that recent developments in Johor, particularly in relation to the state political landscape, have made it increasingly clear that the arrangement between coalition partners requires clearer direction.

Nur Jazlan also expressed hope the result of the upcoming Johor state election would produce a clearer mandate.

“Let the outcome be clear. I hope the government in Johor will be a strong one, ideally aligned with Barisan Nasional (BN),” Nur Jazlan told TRP when contacted.

He further reiterated that the situation highlighted two key concerns: what he described as ambiguity within the unity framework, and the need for a clearer electoral outcome that would strengthen political stability in the state.

Johor BN is set to contest the upcoming state election independently, fielding candidates in all 56 state seats while ruling out any formal seat-sharing arrangement or cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) at the state level, despite both coalitions being partners in the federal Madani government.

Johor BN is adamant about ruling the state independently, as it won 40 out 56 seats contested in the last Johor 2022 State Election, forming the state government with over two-third majority.

The Johor state election is set to take place on July 11, with the nomination day slated this Saturday.

Nur Jazlan was commenting on the situation that saw Onn Hafiz claiming that he was barred from entering a Felda settlement to present land titles to settlers.

Onn Hafiz was supposed to hand over land titles to Felda settlers at Felda Ulu Belitong in Kluang on June 20 and 21 in conjunction with Johor Felda Settlers’ Day 2026.

However, due to the alleged restrictions, the celebration was relocated to Dewan Dato’ Onn in Taman Sri Lambak.

“For the first time in my life in Johor, a menteri besar is not allowed into a felda area,” Onn Hafiz was quoted as saying by New Straits Times, when speaking at the Felda settlers land title presentation ceremony.

However, earlier today, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied claims that he issued any directive or restriction preventing Onn Hafiz from entering Felda areas, reported Malay Mail Online.

The New Pantai Expressway (NPE 2) Extension Project has officially entered its construction phase.

In its current state, the 19.6-kilometer controlled-access highway in the Klang Valley runs parallel to the Federal Highway between Subang Jaya, Selangor, in the southwest, and Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, in the northeast.

The NPE 2 Extension Project, aimed at enhancing connectivity and improving mobility in Kuala Lumpur, will feature a 6.4-kilometer mainline alignment (15.9 kilometers including directional ramps).

The project will connect the Pantai Dalam Toll Plaza to the Jalan Istana Interchange via Jalan Syed Putra, providing an alternative route for motorists travelling towards the city centre.

How will NPE 2 improve traffic?

IJM Construction Sdn Bhd (IJM), the company building the expressway, said during a media briefing today (24 June) that the NPE 2 Extension Project is expected to:

• Divert 40% of traffic currently using Jalan Bangsar.
• Reduce congestion on Jalan Bangsar and Jalan Pantai Dalam.
• Cut travel time by up to 25 minutes during peak periods.
• Strengthen the integrated highway network within the Klang Valley.

The project is also expected to enhance connectivity between the existing NPE, BESRAYA Highway and the proposed Istana-Kiara Expressway (LIKE), in line with aspirations of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Master Plan 2040 (PITKL 2040).

MLFF toll collection system

A Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collection system is also being taken into account.

IJM Toll Division chief executive officer Chua Lay Hoon said the project’s toll plaza design is prepared to support the barrier-free toll system in the future.

However, she said the expressway can still use a conventional toll system if the MLFF technology is not finalised before the project’s completion in October 2029.

“The design of the project has taken the MLFF system into account, but it still depends on the government’s decision.

“If MLFF is not yet implemented by the time the project is completed, we would still have time to make decisions regarding the procurement of toll collection systems that will be used,” Lay Hoon said at the media briefing.

Commenting further, she said that the design of the NPE 2 toll plaza does not involve the construction of “islands” like conventional toll plazas, thus allowing changes to other systems such as Touch ‘N Go and RFID to be made more easily and without requiring significant infrastructural modifications.

Implementation of the Traffic Management Plan

IJM announced a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) — developed in collaboration with relevant authorities and agencies including the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) — to ensure construction activities are carried out safely and effectively.

It will be implemented in phases to support various construction activities including foundation works, elevated highway structure construction, and the realignment of existing local roads across three key project locations: Pantai Dalam, Jalan Syed Putra, and Jalan Istana.

To maintain smooth traffic flow throughout the construction period, several key measures will be implemented, including:

• Real time traffic monitoring systems.
• Continuous coordination with relevant authorities and agencies.
• Scheduled lane closures and traffic diversions outside peak hours.
• Deployment of dedicated traffic management and monitoring teams.
• Information dissemination through Variable Messages Signs (VMS).

IJM secured the RM1.4 billion NPE 2 contract back in November 2025 to build the 15 kilometer NPE extension, marking their third project above RM1 billion that year after a RM1.4 billion fast-track data-centre in Johor and a RM2.135 billion hyperscale data-centre development in Elmina.

The park’s coastal trails offer a stunning transition from dense dipterocarp forest to pristine white-sand beaches framed by the Andaman Sea. The mix of mangroves and dryland forest makes it a unique spot for spotting white-bellied sea eagles.

Travel Tip: While July to September is excellent for coastal hiking, the inter-monsoon period in October and November often brings refreshing evening showers. Start your hikes early to beat the heat and carry plenty of hydration (at least 2.5 litres of water). For transport, take a bus to Penang Bus Terminal and hop on Rapid Penang Bus 101 or 102 directly to the park entrance at Teluk Bahang.

2. Royal Belum State Park, Perak

Part of the 300,000-hectare Belum-Temengor forest complex, Royal Belum State park is a true “lost world” that is even older than the Amazon. It is a vital corridor for large mammals, including the Malayan Tiger and Asian Elephant. This vast wilderness is a sanctuary for all 10 species of Malaysian hornbills and the magnificent Rafflesia — the world’s largest flower.

Take a cruise across the massive Temenggor Lake, visit the Orang Asli (Jahai) villages to learn about indigenous forest culture, or trek to the Sungai Kooi waterfall, which drops 50 metres down a mossy cliff, and visiting salt licks where wildlife gathers for essential minerals.

Travel Tip: August and September are fantastic for hornbill sightings as they congregate during the fruiting season. Pack a lightweight poncho for sudden tropical downpours and non-slip sandals for boat excursions. Wear leech socks as leeches are common near waterfalls. You can hop on a bus from Kuala Lumpur to Gerik, then a short taxi to Pulau Banding, the main departure point for boat tours.

3. Taman Negara National Park, Pahang

As one of the world’s oldest deciduous rainforests, Taman Negara National Park, often called as the “Green Heart of Malaysia”, is a vast, ancient wilderness where the sheer scale of the trees makes you feel delightfully small, spanning 4,343 square kilometres across three states. Walk amongst the clouds on the world’s longest Canopy Walkway, a 530-metre long suspension bridge that offers a bird’s-eye view of the forest layers, or take a Night Jungle Walk to spot nocturnal creatures such as mouse deer and tapirs near the observation hides.

Beyond the heights, you can explore the Gua Telinga cave system or take a traditional wooden boat to the Lata Berkoh rapids for a refreshing swim in tea coloured jungle water. For the more adventurous, a boat trip to Lata Berkoh offers emerald swimming holes and serene river landscapes.

While for a cultural experience, visit the Orang Asli settlements to learn traditional hunting and fire-making skills. Join a one-day tour if you still can’t decide which activities you should take.

Travel Tip: With stable trekking conditions, Taman Negara National Park brings a lush, misty atmosphere, especially in year-end months. Pack moisture-wicking clothing, high-quality leech socks, and a reliable waterproof bag for river crossings. To reach this ancient wilderness, catch a bus to Kuala Tahan.

4. Endau-Rompin National Park, Johor

Staddling the border of Johor and Pahang, Endau-Rompin National Park is home to some of the oldest rock formations in the world, dating back 250 million years. It is a rugged destination perfect for deep-woods exploration. The Selai entrance offers a more accessible route for those looking to experience the rainforest without a heavy expedition.

Trek to the spectacular waterfalls, including Mahkota waterfall and Buaya Sangkut waterfall, where ancient rock pools have been carved into the riverbed. Adventure seekers can also participate in night safaris to spot rare frogs and insects. For some cultural experience, visit the Kampung Peta indigenous village to learn about the Jakun people’s forest lore.

Travel Tip: Note that parts of the park may close during the peak monsoon (November–December), so plan your visit in July to September for the best experience. Bring plenty of insect repellent and cash as there are no ATMs inside, and don’t forget a power bank too! Take a KKKL bus to Kluang or Segamat, where you can arrange a local transfer or taxi to the Bekok gateway.

5. Bako National Park, Sarawak

Bako National Park is a masterclass in varied ecosystems, offering a condensed version of Sarawak’s diverse flora — virtually every type of vegetation found in Borneo is represented here. The park is most famous for its Proboscis monkeys, identifiable by their large noses and pot bellies, often found near the park headquarters at dawn or dusk. For better chances of seeing nocturnal wildlife such as tarsiers or slow lorises, consider staying in the park’s basic chalets or camping.

Known for its immense biodiversity, the park offers hiking through diverse rainforest habitats, scenic, rocky coastlines with unique sea stacks. Choose to hike one of the 16 colour-coded trails. The easy Telok Paku trail provides a high chance of wildlife sightings, including bearded pigs and silvered langurs. For a more challenging adventure, Lintang Loop showcases the park’s dramatic sandstone cliffs, sea stacks, and carnivorous pitcher plants.

Travel Tip: July and August are the driest months in Sarawak, ideal for spotting wildlife. However, at year-end, the Northeast Monsoon approaches and the sea conditions can get choppy, so plan boat transfers for the morning. Take the Rapid Kuching Bus from Kuching’s Open Air Market to Bako Village, followed by a 30-min scenic boat ride to the park headquarters.

6. Lambir Hills National Park, Sarawak

Recognised by scientists as one of the most tree-diverse forests in the world, Lambir Hills National Park is a dream for botany enthusiasts. Despite its modest size, it contains over 1,000 species of trees. The park is best known for its series of beautiful waterfalls, including the easily accessible Latak Waterfall with its large natural swimming pool.

As Lambir Hills has one of the highest levels of tree biodiversity in the world, it is a magnet for birdlife. If you have a pair of binoculars, get it ready for the Bornean Bristlehead, various species of Hornbills, and the vibrant Kingfisher. Look out for the massive Dipterocarp trees and the intricate pitcher plants (Nepenthes) that grow along the higher, sandier ridges too. A Threads post claiming that Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) channels will continue to be carried on Astro has been met with widespread approval from netizens.

According to the post made by an unverified account on Threads, calling itself HDuniverselive, it cited alleged discussions between RTM and Astro, which claimed the satellite television provider will continue airing RTM1, RTM2 and TV Okey across all of its platforms.

“We would like to express our appreciation to RTM for their continued cooperation.

“We remain in close contact with RTM and will announce further details from time to time as more information becomes available,” one Threads account, @hduniverselive, posted.

The post appeared to bring relief to many viewers, with social media platform users welcoming the move and praising both parties for maintaining access to the public broadcaster’s channels.

When asked for proof, the account showed a screenshot of Astro’s TV Guide which bears RTM programming past June 30, well into July.

It was initially reported that RTM will cease airing its channels through Astro after 30 June.

However, some users pointed out that the decision may not sit well with everyone, particularly those who had already cancelled their Astro subscriptions in favour of Unifi to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Hospital Sungai Buloh honoured Hajjah Normah Abdullah on 22 June with a heartfelt send-off, marking the passing of a trailblazer, Malaysia’s first female surveyor and a former lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam.

In a video shared by the hospital, medical staff lined the corridors to accompany Normah on a Walk of Honour, a solemn tribute to her final act of generosity: choosing to become an organ donor.

Normah, 72, passed on Saturday, 20 June, and her family honoured her wishes to have her organs donated following her death. Her organs and tissues are expected to save and transform the lives of at least five patients.

The hospital said that the organ procurement also marked a new milestone in the collaboration between the Health Ministry and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

The hospital added it was honoured to work with Universiti Malaya’s Hepatobiliary Surgery Team, whose expertise and commitment helped make the effort possible.

Normah’s passing was also acknowledged by the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM).

Following Solat Asar, family, friends, and those who knew her gathered at Surau Al-Ittihadiyah in Section 9, Shah Alam, to offer prayers for Hajjah Normah one final time. She was subsequently laid to rest at Tanah Perkuburan Islam Seksyen 21.

Organ donation rate in Malaysia is low

Normah’s decision to be an organ donor serves as an inspiration to many and also raises a little awareness regarding organ donation.

In Malaysia, there’s an extremely low organ donor pledge rate – less than 1% of the population. The global benchmark for functional organ donation system is 20%.

In 2024, Malaysia has only 15,486 new organ donor pledges, the second lowest since 2019. The numbers increased to 51,734 in 2022 after the pandemic, but dropped significantly to 28,367 in 2023.

The major reason why there’s a low organ donor pledge rate is due to family refusal out of religious beliefs. Nearly 90% of potential deceased organ donations in Malaysia fail to proceed due to families declining consent. This means those who pledged often cannot fulfil their wishes and those awaiting life saving donations aren’t getting the help they need.

One of the concerns regarding organ donation is because some beliefs see it as a form of mutilation of the deceased. Since June 1970, the National Fatwa Council ruled that organ donation and transplantation are permissible in Islam.

Authorities are weighing a shift from Malaysia’s current “opt-in” system to an “opt-out” model, similar to Singapore’s, where organs can be retrieved after death unless the family objects. There are also proposals to display organ donor status on driving licenses or MyKad to make registration easier.

The lorry driver who used his truck to stop a runaway express bus from crashing near a Perak tunnel last week walked away from Parliament today (23 June) with a certificate and RM10,000 in hand.

Wong Tuck Meng, 40, received the payout from Transport Minister Anthony Loke at a special ceremony in Parliament, funded by the Road Safety Council of Malaysia (MKJR) — the government’s national advisory body on road safety, chaired by the Transport Minister himself.

The money is the government’s way of saying thank you.

On 15 June, a Kedah-bound express bus lost its brakes going downhill near Menora Tunnel — a stretch on the North-South Expressway in Perak long known for its steep gradient and history of accidents — and slammed into the back of Wong’s lorry.

Instead of pulling away, Wong held steady — letting the bus push against his lorry while steering both vehicles toward the guardrail to slow everything down.

All 21 passengers on board walked away unhurt.

“Don’t Let Anyone Die” — The Only Thing On His Mind

Loke called him a “national hero” at the ceremony and said Wong’s actions proved there were still Malaysians willing to put others first.

Wong, a father of four children, kept it simple.

I just thought, don’t let anyone die. The bus was still a bit far, so I honked first to warn the cars ahead, then handled it from there.

The long-awaited Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) line linking Shah Alam and surrounding areas will officially begin operations next Monday, June 29, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim set to launch the service.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the LRT3, also known as the Shah Alam Line, is among the country’s major public transport projects and is expected to significantly improve connectivity for residents along the western corridor of the Klang Valley.

Spanning more than 37km, the line connects Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya to Johan Setia in Klang and features 20 stations across Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang.

The stations are Bandar Utama, Kayu Ara, BU11, Damansara Idaman, Subang, Glenmarie 2, Kerjaya, Stadium Shah Alam, Dato’ Menteri, UiTM Shah Alam, Section 7 Shah Alam, Bandar Baru Klang, Pasar Klang, Jalan Meru, Jambatan Kota, Taman Selatan, Seri Andalas, Klang Jaya, Bandar Bukit Tingi and Johan Setia.

Low fares awaited the public

Fares start from 80 sen and go up to RM4.90 for cash payments, while the maximum fare for cashless transactions is capped at RM4.30.

As with other rail services, children, students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities (OKU) will enjoy a 50% concession fare.

Passengers will be able to interchange with the Kajang MRT Line at Bandar Utama station and the Kelana Jaya LRT Line at Glenmarie 2 station, further strengthening the integration of the Klang Valley’s rail network.

The LRT3 line will also be supported by approximately 2,300 Park N’ Ride parking bays to provide greater convenience for commuters.

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have opened a disciplinary investigation paper on one of its members connected to a viral incident in China, where she was accused of insulting the locals while on holiday there recently.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the personnel involved is still on active duty at the moment, Berita Harian reported.

“I urge all parties to be calm and let PDRM conduct the investigation as best as they can, and not just from a disciplinary angle, whereas if there have been a violation of the law, appropriate action will be taken,” Mohd Khalid said during an event at the Royal Malaysia Police College recently.

The personnel’s position or role in PDRM was not disclosed.

Video of women ridiculing Chinese locals went viral

A group of Malaysian women faced heavy backlash recently, after one of them uploaded a video onto social media of them loudly mocking locals in China for being “smelly” while they covered their noses.

They also made a number of other derogatory remarks about the Chinese locals’ hygiene in the video.

The post quickly went viral on both Malaysian and Chinese social media platforms, and people criticised them for being rude and reassured others that Malaysians do not typically behave that way.

A lawyer’s letter and an apology

Their antics also became international coverage, with media outlets like Firstpost America reporting the incident and focusing on the woman who posted the video.

The video was posted on TikTok by one “Ekyn Wong” who subsequently deleted the video and later uploaded a lawyer’s letter that threatened to take action against anyone who slandered her, spread her personal information online or compromised her safety.

She later issued a public apology for her actions on social media.

“I, Nur Asyiqin Mohd Dalil, wholeheartedly apologise for my mistake, which was a spontaneous reaction I had while visiting China on 15 June. I understand and take full responsibility for my actions which caused discomfort to any party.

“I respect the views, criticisms, and feelings of all parties and never intended to offend, humiliate, or cause any conflict because at that time it was just a spontaneous and unplanned reaction,” she said.

Nur Asyiqin added that she will accept and acknowledge every criticism with an open heart, and will be more careful of her actions.

The Kuantan International Kite Festival (KIKF) 4.0 is going to paint the east coast city’s Cherating beach with colourful kites of all sizes and designs by kite makers from all around the world.

Happening from 1 to 6 July, the event will feature spectacular daytime and nighttime kite-flying displays, exhibition booths, and family-friendly activities.

According to Pahang Media, KIKF 4.0 is expected to attract as many as 20,000 visitors to the city.

Being an international festival, more than 60 professional kite flyers from 17 countries including newcomers like Sweden, Poland, Indonesia, Japan, and India will be participating in the event.

“For this edition, we are bringing 17 countries including Malaysia with 66 kite flyers participating, compared to previous editions which only involved 10 countries.

“Nations that are joining for the first time are Sweden, Poland, Indonesia, Japan, and India. Aside from them, countries that have been participating since 2003 are Brunei, China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Macau, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, and Malaysia,” said Kuantan’s mayor Dato’ Zaliza Zulkipli recently.

He added that there will be a shuttle service operating throughout the festival period, from morning until night. Four shuttles have been provided by the Kuantan City Council, while an additional six shuttles are provided by the Kemaman City Council.

Running with the theme “Cherating Wind & Ocean Wave”, the event sets the tone and mood for a relaxing day at the beach while basking in a coastline decorated by fun and unique kites.

Non-Muslim houses of worship in Selangor will no longer be subject to height restrictions, under revised building guidelines that took effect this month.

The update, announced following a meeting between the Selangor state government and representatives from various faith communities on Sunday (21 June), also requires property developers to surrender at least 1.5 acres of land for non-Muslim religious use in new developments with at least 5,000 residents.

The meeting, the third of its kind, was held at Bangunan SSAAS in Shah Alam and chaired by state executive councillor Ng Sze Han.

Under the revised guidelines, buildings may be constructed at any height, provided the design is considered to be in harmony with the surrounding development.

Previous rules had imposed restrictions that faith communities said limited their ability to build.

Who It Leaves Out

Commercial, industrial, and institutional properties are now officially permitted to be used as non-Muslim places of worship — a recognition of the reality that many congregations have long operated out of shophouses and office buildings.

Access road and setback requirements have also been made more flexible, subject to approval from local councils and the State Special Committee for Non-Islamic Affairs (LIMAS), which will serve as a mediator in disputes between property owners and local authorities.

Developers are also required to provide infrastructure, such as access roads, water, and electricity, along with the land they surrender.

The guidelines apply only to new developments.

Existing houses of worship will not be affected by the changes, meaning congregations that have spent years seeking formal recognition for their current premises will need to pursue separate channels.

A Reversal Of Contested Rules

Under the previous draft guidelines, non-Muslim houses of worship in Selangor were restricted to a height of 72 feet (approximately 21.9 metres) to maintain uniformity with mosques in the vicinity.

The earlier framework had also been criticised for barring worship spaces from commercial zones and for being seen as discriminatory by interfaith councils and community stakeholders.

The Council of Churches of Malaysia (CCM) said it welcomed the revisions, describing them as “more inclusive and fair.”

CCM extends our deep appreciation to the Selangor State Exco for listening to the concerns of the non-Muslim communities.

Ng, who is also state chairman of Selangor DAP, told faith leaders at the meeting that the state government had kept its promise to review and update the guidelines, incorporating feedback gathered from previous rounds of consultation.

The revised guidelines apply only to Selangor and take immediate effect as of June; the full guidelines will be published separately.

The revisions are a direct response to the Selangor State Planning Guidelines and Standards for Community Facilities 2025, an earlier draft which had proposed barring non-Muslim houses of worship from commercial zones and restricting building heights, drawing widespread criticism from faith communities.

When IKEA Cheras announced the reopening of its Swedish Restaurant on Monday (22 June), it included new cutlery, refresher training for staff, health inspector clearance, and a 15% discount valid until Friday (26 June).

The public response was not quite what the company may have hoped for.

Within hours, the comments section of IKEA Malaysia’s Facebook post had become an unplanned feedback forum — not just about the closure, but about cold chicken wings, glasses with lipstick stains, meatballs that no longer taste right, and queues long enough to reach the elevator.

The restaurant was shut on 17 June after health inspectors from the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Federal Territories Health Department recommended improvements to kitchen operations; IKEA said no food contamination was found and customer safety had not been compromised.

It reopened five days later.

The closure appeared to give customers a reason to voice complaints that had been building long before any inspector arrived.

“Bad coffee. Bad ice cream. Downgraded curry puff,” wrote one commenter about the Damansara branch, while at Cheras, others flagged cold food, unavailable soft drink cups, and a staff member who responded to a customer inquiry with a single word — “Habis” — and nothing more.

The Meatball Problem

Among the most consistent complaints was one about IKEA’s signature dish.

At least four commenters, writing independently, said the meatballs had changed — variously described as too hard, too dry, too soft, or simply tasteless.

“Dulu kenyal bila gigit, sekarang lembik,” wrote one, with another saying they were “served cold and hard, depending on luck.”

IKEA’s reopening statement made no mention of food quality, and IKEA has not publicly disclosed the specific nature of the hygiene issues that led to the shutdown.

Same Staff, Same kitchen, Same questions

Its 17 June statement said only that “improvements” to kitchen operations were needed, and that vagueness did not go unnoticed.

“We will never know what caused the closure,” one commenter wrote — a sentiment echoed by others who questioned whether the same staff and same conditions would simply produce the same outcome.

“Pekerja still org sama… it will happen again,” wrote another, while one commenter called for kitchen photographs to be released.

Operational complaints centred heavily on waiting times.

Multiple commenters independently raised the issue of long queues, with suggestions ranging from self-order kiosks to mobile app ordering.

Would you panic if you suddenly spotted a fully armed soldier wandering around your neighbourhood?

Even more unsettling if that soldier wasn’t Malaysian, but appeared to be a lone Japanese serviceman roaming the streets.

That was exactly the scene that left residents in Taman Bukit Desa, Kepong scratching their heads after a video of the mysterious figure surfaced online and quickly made its rounds on social media.

A Facebook user recently shared the video, prompting online discussion. While users were quick to speculate, the incident did not appear to cause major alarm among Facebook users.

One commenter even quipped, “There are so many crazy people out there. Scary”

Police have since launched an investigation into the incident.

According to Bernama, Gombak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ibrahim Husin said authorities received a report regarding the matter at about 4.31pm on Monday after footage of the man went viral via WhatsApp.

The case is being investigated under Section 140 of the Penal Code for wearing attire resembling that of military, naval or air force personnel.

Those convicted under the provision face up to three months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both.

Investigators are also probing the case under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 for allegedly possessing and importing imitation weapons.

Those with information on the incident are urged to contact investigating officer Inspector S Prakash at 012-2940827 or the Gombak district police operations room at 03-6126 2222 to assist investigations.

Any wrongdoing uncovered in the transfer of three Asian elephants from Zoo Taiping to Japan will be dealt with accordingly to safeguard institutional integrity and Malaysia’s reputation on the international stage, says Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup.

In a statement today, Arthur said the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) had taken note of the ongoing investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) into the process involving the relocation of the elephants from Zoo Taiping in Perak to Tennoji Zoo in Osaka.

He stressed the ministry’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability and the rule of law in all aspects of wildlife management.

Arthur said NRES stands ready to provide full cooperation to the authorities throughout the course of the investigation to ensure it is conducted in a comprehensive and transparent manner.

“The ministry will not compromise or shield any party should there be evidence of misconduct, irregularities or procedural breaches in relation to the transfer,” he said.

Dara, Amoi and Kelat (DAK) – the three elephants from Zoo Taiping and Night Safari in Perak that was transferred to Tennoji Zoo in Osaka, Japan, was part of a bilateral conservation cooperation between Malaysia and Japan.

The move was aimed at supporting captive breeding efforts and strengthening wildlife conservation ties between the two countries.

However, the relocation attracted public attention after questions were raised over the procedures and approvals involved in the transfer, prompting calls for greater transparency regarding the management of the endangered species.

The Toy Story franchise has given us heartfelt and entertaining stories about toys and how children relate to them. In Toy Story 5, the story was kept relevant with the introduction of tech and gadgets seeping into each family’s home.

This latest installment centers on Jessie, who becomes the leader of the toys in Bonnie’s room, since Woody and Bo Peep left to help abandoned toys find owners. The days were good for the toys until Bonnie got desperate to befriend her peers and got engrossed with a new frog-like tablet named Lilypad.

How did Toy Story 5 hold up?

I loved how the Toy Story team wove in a relatable story about gadgets taking over toys in homes and reshaping childhood in Toy Story 5. It showed how being connected through tech and apps doesn’t translate into real bonding between friends. We see this through Bonnie, who placed pressure on herself to keep up appearances to fit in, and it nearly sucked all her joy away.

The team clearly understood how children interact with toys by animating Bonnie’s creative imaginary play. These scenes gave a lovely and authentic depiction of a child’s play and acknowledge that these silly stories entertained adults as well.

The team also knew how to give old toys their own storyline and bring them back into the fold without it being jarring. Knowing that Woody and the others had their own adventures along the way added a nice touch of continuity.

The humour felt organic to the scenes and landed well with the adult audience (Woody’s shiny bald patch, anyone?).

The film also gave some nuance to the tech vs toys debate. Lilypad’s intention was good, but the way she went about it showed her inexperience, being a new toy and all. Jessie and gang may stumble at first, but their experience and growth helped shape the rest of the story’s more emotional moments.

Watch it. Overall, I’m once again blown away by the team’s creativity in bringing these toy stories to life on the big screen. They managed to weave in timely lessons without being heavy-handed or preachy.

Concert promoter Hitman Solutions just teased what might be iconic nu-metal and rap-rock band Limp Bizkit coming to perform in Malaysia soon.

A post on Instagram showed an animated visual of the band’s second studio album “Significant Other”, along with “One-Stop Asia Show” flashing across the screen.

The post also announced a chance to win tickets, with step-by-step instructions on how to enter the lucky draw.

A band that defined a generation

To many people who grew up in the 90s and the Y2K era, Limp Bizkit is not just another nu-metal band at the time.

Known for high-energy mosh-pits and fusion of aggressive metal guitars with hip-hop beats, they brought a new kind of music genre that exploded into pop culture. Teens of the time who listened to their albums knew their songs by heart, and those who went to their concerts told stories of how electrifying the experience was.

Lead vocalist Fred Durst, famous for his signature red Yankees cap, rap-vocal delivery, and defiant attitude, was a role model to many rebellious youths of the era.

The band’s guitarist, Wes Borland, is known for his elaborate makeup, masks, and unconventional, experimental guitar riffs that not only defined Limp Bizkit’s signature sound, but also inspired a generation of aspiring guitar players.

John Otto mans the drums, providing the rhythmic backbone driving the band’s hip-hop and funk-influenced grooves.

DJ Lethal, who works the turntables, added crucial scratching and samples that bridged the gap between hip-hop and rock.

On bass was Sam Rivers, who sadly passed away last year, and replaced by Richie “Kid Not” Buxton, continuing Rivers’ legacy with bass lines that anchors the band’s tracks.

Woodstock ’99

Limp Bizkit has always been known as a band that riles up its fans during live concerts with their high-evergy music and lyrics.

One particular song, titled Break Stuff, is a track that has been responsible for some pretty wild chaos at their concerts.

The 1999 Woodstock music festival was a prime example of what could happen at a Limp Bizkit live performance. During the event, fontman Fred Durst allegedly incited the massive, frustrated crowd to “break stuff”, leading fans to tear down the plywood from sound-tower walls and surf on the boards as the band played.

This explosive performance acted as the catalyst for the festival’s descent into full-scale rioting, vandalism, and violence.

While Limp Bizkit received immense media blame for inciting the crowd, festival organizers also faced severe criticism for executing a poorly managed event that actively frustrated attendees. The violence and unrest that began during Limp Bizkit’s performance eventually escalated into widespread looting, arson, and horrific reports of sexual assault by the end of the festival.

In any case, that was during a different time, in a different place, and with different people. We think Malaysians today would be much better behaved at a Limp Bizkit concert because we’re a much more peaceful society (right?).

A Malaysian paediatrician based in Perth, Western Australia, is facing 33 charges of child sex-related offences after police identified nine alleged victims.

Chia Liang Saw, 41, was first charged on 29 May with one count of persistent sexual conduct with a child under 16 and one count of possessing child exploitation material.

Western Australia Police said Saw now faces 31 additional charges after discovering footage from a suspected hidden camera and identifying further victims. Police said all nine alleged victims are children.

According to news sources, the additional charges span a range of serious offences against minors, including indecent dealings with children both under and over 13, producing child exploitation material, secretly recording children during alleged assaults, and seeking to procure a person believed to be under 16 for sexual activity.

The alleged offences took place between November 2022 and May 2026 in the Perth suburbs of Wembley, Nedlands, and Midland. Some offences allegedly occurred in a hospital, where Saw worked as a consultant developmental paediatrician who specialises in behavioural issues. According to LinkedIn, he has served as a clinical lecturer at Curtin University.

Saw appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on 19 June, where he was not required to enter a plea. He remains in custody, and the next court appearance is on 30 June. He is currently remanded in Hakea Prison, and his lawyer indicated he would apply for bail.

After his arrest, Saw’s medical registration was suspended by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). He’s banned from practising medicine until the case is concluded. His suspension from practice is automatic pending the outcome of the case, and does not reflect a finding of guilt.

When people think of Maria’s SteakCafe today, they think of premium steaks, family celebrations, and one of Malaysia’s most established homegrown restaurant brands.

What many don’t realise is that the journey began not in a restaurant kitchen, but in a family home in Ipoh during one of the most challenging periods of Philip and Maria’s lives.

Long before Maria’s SteakCafe became a familiar name among steak lovers, Maria was a homemaker with a deep passion for cooking and baking.

During a financial crisis that affected Philip’s business, she began baking cakes, pies, curry puffs, and quiches from home to help supplement the family’s income.

What started as a necessity would eventually become the foundation of a restaurant empire spanning multiple outlets across Malaysia.

For their daughter, some of her fondest childhood memories were made in that kitchen.

Before Maria’s SteakCafe, There Was Just A Family Trying To Get By

“Our house always smelled of good food,” she recalled. Late nights were common in the family home.

At the time, opening a restaurant wasn’t even part of the plan.

Food had always been Philip and Maria’s passion, but the business began as a simple takeaway and delivery operation supported largely by friends and word-of-mouth recommendations.

As demand grew, Philip recognised the opportunity to turn the home-based venture into something bigger.

Ironically, steaks weren’t what made them popular in the beginning.

“We were actually known for our pies and pastries,” she said.

Becoming One Of Ipoh’s Early Café Pioneers

Business was encouraging from the start. Philip and Maria had already built a reputation for serving quality food, while the café itself offered something relatively uncommon in Ipoh at the time, a specialty coffee.

In fact, Maria’s was among the first cafés in the city to own an espresso machine.

“I remember my brother coming home and saying he served 100 cups of cappuccino that day,” she said.

While customers came quickly, running a restaurant proved to be a learning experience.

The family had little experience managing restaurant operations, and there were times when diners waited more than an hour for their food. Thankfully, loyal customers remained patient as Philip and Maria refined their systems and processes.

Their daughter believes the café’s success wasn’t just about the food.

Even when business was thriving, Maria continued baking for charitable causes, sometimes producing up to 100 cakes for fundraising events.

Philip was equally known for quietly helping friends, supporting local businesses, and donating to those in need.

Those values would later become part of the company’s culture.

The Loss That Changed Everything

Then came the moment that changed the family’s life forever. Their daughter had just completed her A-Levels when she received the devastating news that Philip had suffered a heart attack. She was only 19 years old.

“It was very sudden. I was shocked. I didn’t really know how to react other than feeling I needed to be strong for my family,” she said.

Beyond the emotional toll, the loss created immediate challenges for both the family and the business.

Maria had always concentrated on food and operations, while Philip handled much of the business side. With three children still pursuing their studies, finances became increasingly tight.

During university, their daughter took on part-time tuition work and carefully saved enough money to travel home every other week.

“My mum was trying her best to stay strong, but I could see how stressed she was.”

Maria Kept The Business Alive For Her Children

Despite the circumstances, giving up was never an option.

“If you ask her, she would probably say she did it all for us.”

Determined to see her children complete their education, Maria continued pushing forward with the business. She even took a significant risk by expanding into Klang Valley despite having little familiarity with the market.

The move was challenging, but it would eventually pave the way for Maria’s SteakCafe’s growth beyond Ipoh.

Why The Next Generation Chose To Continue The Legacy

For years, there was no expectation that the children would take over the business. In fact, their daughter was on track for a corporate career as an actuary.

But while helping out during university breaks, she began noticing something remarkable. Customers were willing to travel long distances simply for a meal at Maria’s.

One customer regularly drove from Rawang after work because he was craving their steak. Another, an expatriate from Texas, became such a loyal customer that he continued visiting the restaurant whenever he returned to Malaysia.

Those encounters left a lasting impression.

“When the right time came, I told my mum that I wanted to help her run the restaurant.”

Preserving The Heart Of Maria’s While Taking It Into The Future

Today, Maria’s SteakCafe has evolved far beyond its humble beginnings.

The brand has expanded its premium steak offerings, introduced authentic Halal Kobe beef, and opened outlets in some of the country’s most recognisable locations, including Suria KLCC.

Yet despite the growth, the family’s mission remains largely unchanged.

Their father once envisioned Maria’s becoming “your favourite place, time and time again” — a restaurant known not just for good food, but for making people feel at home.

That philosophy continues to shape the business today, from how customers are treated to how staff are cared for.

“Everyone is family,” she said. “That’s the culture we want to preserve for as long as Maria’s continues to exist.”

Looking back, she believes her father would be surprised by how far the business has come.

Instead, the business he built alongside Maria has grown into one of Malaysia’s best-known steakhouses.

“He would be proud,” she said.

And perhaps more importantly, he would see that the dream he and Maria started in a small home kitchen all those years ago is still alive, carried forward by the very family he worked so hard to provide for.

Nor Zulaila Abd Ghani grew up in a home where two worlds met at the dinner table.

Her father, a Chinese convert to Islam, and her Malay mother raised her in Lenga, a small town in Muar, Johor.

She attended a Chinese primary school, then a national secondary school, then left for Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Selangor to study environmental science.

She never quite came back — not for 12 years, anyway.

That changes now.

Known to most as Lily, the 40-year-old is Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) candidate for N40 Tiram in the upcoming Johor state election, contesting under the DAP banner.

“The best politics is politics that solves people’s problems,” she said in her campaign materials — a line that doubles as both a slogan and a quiet rebuke of the political culture she says she wants to change.

12 Years, Two Ministries, One Constituency She Never Served

Her path to Tiram was built almost entirely outside Johor.

After graduating, Lily threw herself into community and political work in the Klang Valley.

She served as a councillor at Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ), then as an assistant to Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming, before moving to Kajang — where she has sat on Majlis Perbandaran Kajang (MPK) for eight years.

She also served as special officer to the Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan and coordinated the DUN Semenyih office.

Since 2023, she has been private secretary to the Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry under Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong — a role that also covers the Deputy Finance Minister’s portfolio.

Twelve years, multiple councils, two ministries; all of it in Selangor, and it is precisely that record she is now asking Tiram voters to weigh.

I want to bring the experience I have gathered at the local government and federal levels to ensure that every policy is not merely announced, but truly implemented and felt by the people.

The Drains, The Potholes, And The Decade She Wasn’t Here

Her campaign leans on the unglamorous work of governance — pothole repairs, drain maintenance, flood response, job creation, welfare delivery.

The questions she poses in her materials are not rhetorical flourishes.

They are, she suggests, the actual measure of whether a representative has done the job.

But the homecoming narrative carries its own complications.

Tiram voters will not have seen her at their community halls or longkang inspections over the past decade.

That proximity — the kind that gets built over years of showing up — belongs to someone else.

A Biography As A Campaign Argument

Lily is asking the constituency to accept that what she learned elsewhere is transferable, and that her roots in Johor count for something even after a long absence.

Her biography, at least, makes that case in human terms.

A Chinese-school education.

A Malay mother and a father who converted.

An environmental science degree, a career built in the heart of Pakatan territory.

She is, in a sense, a walking argument for the Bangsa Johor identity she invokes — the idea that Johor’s strength lies not in ethnic uniformity but in the layered, complicated, sometimes contradictory ways its people have always lived together.

Whether that argument lands in the ballot box is another matter.

Visual effects (VFX) creator and influencer Mohamad Sofian Abdullah, better known on as Sofyank, went viral once again recently after he released a new video showcasing his creative talent.

The video was produced in collaboration with e-hailing and delivery service platform Grab to promote its curated in-app food guide and discovery feature, Grab 5-Star Eats.

Grab’s collaboration with Sofyank and his team is in support of the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign.

Created in Sofyank’s signature VFX style, with smooth and creative transitions that will make most content creators green with envy, the video showcases Malaysia’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, modern urbanscapes, and natural wonders.

Part of the video highlights the Grab app’s feature to point users to the highest rated eateries all around the country.

“If you want to experience the beauty of the world, there’s no need to look far, Malaysia has many amazing destinations!

The video received high praise from Malaysians, with many saying that this is how the country’s tourism should be promoted.

“Hello Ministry of Tourism, this is how you promote Malaysia!” one TikTok user commented.

“This is far better than Tourism Malaysia’s video,” another user said, referring to the agency’s recently released promotional video of Citrawarna.

Tourism Malaysia’s AI Citrawarna promotional video receives heavy criticism

While Grab’s video earned praises, the tourism ministry’s video to promote the upcoming Citrawarna 2026 — a major event that highlights Malaysia’s culture through traditional music, dance, storytelling, and food, received major backlash.

Although the video’s content aligns with the Citrawarna theme, many criticised the ministry for producing it using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

“The sheer lack of knowledge in promoting our Malaysian culture using AI is astounding. Don’t tell me years of archival footage of sights and sounds of the nation is not available to produce a stunning image of Malaysia? Using AI just goes to show that culture, history and humanity is not recognized.

“We have countless talented individuals in Malaysia to produce something absolutely unique but none of them are being utilized. Just look at @sofyank96 work. He alone with a team of talented can portray Malaysia, hiring a team of experienced players from the creative industry would have made this video better rather than using prompts for some AI slop.

“We are better than this, use our talents before the country loses out to other SEA countries,” said local standup comedian Prakash Daniel in the comments section.

Another Instagram user commented: “It’s ironic how you guys used AI to create something that is so human. Culture is meant to be shown through the history, art, food and everything else made by HUMANS. Stop using AI for every single thing please.”

Many also highlighted that Sofyank’s video with Grab should be the benchmark for the ministry to follow, while others voiced out concerns about the government’s preference towards using AI instead of hiring local talents to produce promotional material for Malaysia’s tourism industry.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched an investigation into the allegations that transactions worth about RM53 million linked to the transfer of elephants Amoi, Dara, and Kelat to Tennoji Zoo had not reached government hands.

MACC said the investigation is focused on the national resources and environmental sustainability ministry, the wildlife and national parks department, and the agents involved in the elephants’ transfer.

The commission will be looking into allegations of leakage, and the possibility of bribery, misappropriation, or abuse of power.

The investigation is still in its early stages and the public is urged not to speculate on the matter.

Last Thursday, wildlife advocacy group Hak Asasi Hidupan Liar Malaysia claimed that about RM53 million was paid to several individuals instead of the government.

The organisation, including Pertubuhan Pelindung Khazanah Alam Malaysia, urged MACC to investigate the alleged payments.

The president of Pertubuhan Pelindung Khazanah Alam Malaysia Rajesh Nagarajan said the group received information from a whistleblower and had submitted the names of eight individuals to MACC to be investigated.

The three elephants were sent from Taiping Zoo to Tennoji Zoo in Osaka as part of a conservation and bilateral tie programme between both zoos.

Tennoji Zoo shared frequent updates about the elephants to assure the concerned public that the animals were well taken cared.

There have been increasing calls to return the elephants back to Malaysia. On 17 June, activist Neow Choo Seong ran from Taiping, Perak to Parliament to hand over a memorandum urging elected representatives to discuss the issue of Malaysian elephants in zoos in Japan.

During his run, various people joined him, including Khairy Jamaluddin along with the Bekpes Hot crew.
