A Career That Began With Theatre

Nana Patekar's journey was not built overnight. Before becoming a major name in Indian cinema, he developed his craft through theatre.

No Permission Sought or Granted": Delhi Police Bans CJP's Parliament March Amid Massive Security Crackdown

NEW DELHI — The collision course between protesting youth and the state security apparatus has reached a critical juncture in the national capital. As the highly anticipated Monsoon Session of Parliament commenced on Monday, July 20, the Delhi Police officially blocked the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) proposed "Sansad Chalo" (March to Parliament).

Citing severe public order and traffic concerns, authorities clarified that the march is strictly prohibited, warning that any attempt to breach the designated protest boundaries at Jantar Mantar will result in immediate prosecution under the newly implemented Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The CJP’s massive mobilization over the NEET-UG 2026 crisis has kept the capital on edge for weeks. However, police officials revealed that the protest organizers bypassed formal legal channels for their planned parliamentary siege.

Sachin Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), issued a firm warning to the agitators. “In view of reports of a proposed march to Parliament by CJP on 20.07.2026 (Monday), Delhi Police hereby categorically clarifies that no permission has been sought or granted for any such protest march or procession,” the DCP stated.

Section 163 BNSS Enforced: A Blanket Ban on Assembly

To secure the area around Parliament Street and Central Vista, the Delhi Police have strictly enforced Section 163 of the BNSS—the legal successor to the erstwhile Section 144 of the CrPC.

Under an order issued by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Parliament Street Subdivision, the prohibitory measures were actually initiated on June 24 and will remain actively in effect until August 22, 2026. The order prohibits the unlawful assembly of five or more persons, unauthorized public meetings, processions, dharnas, and slogan-shouting outside the designated Jantar Mantar site.

Furthermore, the police directive strictly bans the carrying of firearms, lathis, spears, swords, brickbats, placards, and banners in the restricted zones.

“Any person violating the prohibitory orders shall be liable for prosecution under Section 223 BNS and other applicable provisions of law,” DCP Sharma added, emphasizing that the Parliament Street sub-division's heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic cannot be compromised.

Jantar Mantar Turned Into a Fortress

Anticipating thousands of CJP supporters and allied student unions, the security deployment at Jantar Mantar has been transformed into a multi-layered fortress.

By Sunday evening, massive contingents of the Rapid Action Force (RAF), the Nagaland Armed Police, and the Delhi Police had secured all entry and exit points. High-security, multi-layered metal barricades have been erected to physically prevent any forward movement toward the legislative buildings.

Senior police officials confirmed that "elaborate preventive arrangements" will remain in place throughout the duration of the Monsoon Session. Rapid response teams, police buses, and emergency ambulances are heavily stationed across key locations, including Parliament Street, Connaught Place, and Shankar Chowk.

Inside the protest site, authorities are continuously using loudspeakers to announce the enforcement of Section 163, frequently instructing CJP volunteers to manage the swelling crowds and keep emergency access gates clear.
