This year, we are publishing 11—and you’ll also notice how different these lists are from one another.
A lot of things have changed in the past three years—especially when it comes to the progression and
creation of new startup resources in the Kansas City area.

Startup Weekend is no easy hackathon to win—especially in a place like Kansas City where startup ideas and driven entrepreneurs are flocking in by the hundreds (if not thousands!). This fall’s Kansas City Startup Weekend brought together some of the coolest startup ideas, the most hungry entrepreneurs and, of course, loads and loads of caffeine and high energy.

This year, Startup Weekend Kansas City crowned startup Wazoo as the winner. Wazoo is a mobile application aimed at helping zoos provide a better experience for visitors. The app features geolocation on a live map of zoo parks in order to help users navigate their way through zoos as well as real-time free featuring updates from other zoo-goers to help users stay in the know on what’s happening.

In this episode of Think Big Radio, Derek sits down with Kelly Tomlinson, founder Wazoo (and Kansas City-based UI designer) to learn about Wazoo’s Startup Weekend experience as well as what’s next for her new, “wild” app.

And it was better than we imagined. We even had the opportunity to sit down with Google Fiber Community Manager Rachel Hack and ask her a few questions about Google Fiber’s implementation in Kansas City…and what we can expect next. We asked Rachel about Google Fiber for business, the ins-and-outs of Google TV, Kansas City as the home of Google Fiber and we even took questions from people on Facebook and Twitter who had interesting questions about the high-speed Internet. Want to hear what Rachel had to say? Give episode 23 of Think Big Radio a listen! To learn more about Google Fiber, visit https://fiber.google.com/about/

Ever since startup accelerator programs have begun popping up around the world, skeptics have been curious: are startup accelerators a waste of time? Are they worth it? Do they really benefit the startups that take the plunge? Maybe those skeptics haven’t seen the success rates from top accelerator programs such as TechStars, Y Combinator and LaunchBox. Startups around the globe are becoming more successful at a faster rate because of startup accelerators (or even through business incubators). In this podcast, Derek and Allison of Think Big Partners explore the five reasons you and your business idea should undergo the startup accelerator process: 1.
