Welcome to 2007

Okay, my goal is to get better about keeping this up to date. Unfortunately, I do a lot of interacting over at the Evolution Forum, so I'm rarely here. I enjoy the chats, etc. I guess that means is I've got to get people to come here instead!!!!

Since I last posted, I've done four drawings. Maybe I'll do one a post or the like. Anyway, here's #26 (06-1123), my friend Big Mike.

Big Mike was the guy that got me started on this whole journey. When I was debating starting my cartoon strip again last spring, and looking for a project over break, Mike suggested I move in a new direction, instead of treading old ground. He challenged me to draw some stuff like the cartoonist/ erotic illustrator MATT or my namesake, TOM of FINLAND.

Well, when his birthday loomed this year, I thought there would be no better gift than to do a portrait. The reference pic I used was taken by his partner while they were on vacation someplace. The pic itself is remarkably good (very well composed) but I stripped it of the background, ocean, and sky to concentrate on the figure.

It's interesting to compare the two.

I had to put #25 aside to finish this in time for Mike's b-day, so #25 still hangs undone.

I'm loving this so far and wish I had more time to work on it. I'll be able to do some shading this weekend, but probably not much more than the head and torso. The challenge of this drawing will be in rendering the water. He breaks the surface in three different spots and I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to show motion and currents, etc. (I'm glad that I've at least gotten past looking at the BODY as the challenge, lol.)

(I've also enhanced his package quite significantly -- especially if you know Palumbo -- and am anxious to render the wet shorts.)

Okay, so I finally have a couple of minutes to start this thing -- and only because of daylight savings time and my laziness about changing the clocks in the bedroom -- so let's get cracking!

Welcome to the blog of Tom of Maryland, where I'll share thoughts and anecdotes and tons and tons of erotic muscle art!

There'll be an archive soon containing all my drawings, but I'll post a couple here so you can see where I've been:

#17 (in the series) 062506 of Brad Hollibaugh:

#18 070606 of John Safar, which gets me a lot of attention, but not one of my favorite works:

This one IS a favorite, #21 081806 of Guiseppe Albi:

Arguably my best work -- certainly MY favorite, #22 090406:

I'm not sure if those images are going to upload or not, so I'm going to post this and test it -- if it works, I'll put up my most recently finished work and my current piece. Here goes nothing!
