As a first-time visitor, I did ask myself how much a trip to LEGOLAND California Resort costs. But here’s where I made the mistake. My sole focus was on the ticket prices, from the daily rates to the resort hopper and the hotel packages. However, that is just one factor, as you will also have to consider food and transportation.

All things being equal, you’ll spend way less if you stay within the city. You’d probably get a rental car or use yours to commute to and from the resort. I personally will have no need to stay in a hotel. It would be way cheaper to drive back home at the end of the day.

If you stay outside the city, then your pockets will have to go a bit deeper. You could drive in, but that’d be gas for your vehicle. The alternative would be to take the train, board a bus, or book a flight, and none of that comes cheap. Plus, I imagine you’d want to spend the night in one of the hotels serving the resort.

This guide will show you just what to expect whether you stay in the city or have to come in for your trip.

How Much Does a Trip to LEGOLAND California Resort Cost?

Planning for D-Day

If your kids aren’t crying for a trip to LEGOLAND California already, they soon will. What you can do is to plan for it as part of your vacation.

Every year, millions turn up at the park to enjoy the rides and give their kids a good time. Here are things I’ll consider when costing my trip today:

Transportation

I’ll consider you lucky if you stay nearby. Transportation won’t be a hassle for you, and neither will the cost. You can drive your car, get a rental, or take a taxi (Uber and Lyft inclusive). But if I didn’t have a car, I’d go with a rental. I feel you’ll get more flexibility with it than taking a taxi.

That said, here is a cost breakdown on how much you should expect:

If you are opting for a car rental, then you should look at spending anywhere from $50 up. The cost increases depending on the car and your family size. That is because SUVs and vans can go up to $100 for one day.

Now that we’ve gotten the intra-city transportation cost out of the way, it’s time to consider the inter-city transportation cost. There are three major, or let me say five, ways you can get into the city, and each one comes with its own cost.

How much your trip to LEGOLAND California Resort costs will depend on which transportation approach you use. For flights, you can land at any of these airports:

• McClellan-Palomar Airport (CLD/CRQ)
• The San Diego International Airport
• The Los Angeles International Airport

Comparing The Airports

McClellan-Palomar Airport is the closest to the park, as it is just 3 miles away from Carlsbad. But I wouldn’t bet on it if I wanted to catch a quick regional flight. I’ll only recommend it if you stay in Denver, Phoenix, or San Francisco.

San Diego Airport is the top choice I know most travelers use. You’ll find many domestic and international flights there. It’d be my go-to option if I were an international traveler. And that 35-mile distance will come in handy for a quick road trip to the resort.

The Los Angeles International Airport is the farthest from the resort (at 90 miles). However, it offers the most flight options. But I would avoid it due to the frequent traffic congestion you’ll find on your way to the resort.

Lodging

Once you’ve gotten your transportation sorted, the next thing I would say is accommodation. Like transportation, you’ll spend way less, if not nothing, if you stay in proximity to the park. Even for a 2-day itinerary, you can effortlessly drive back and forth for the 2 days.

It’s a different story when you have to travel into Carlsbad for your trip. I don’t think a 1-day trip will be enough. As such, you have to book a hotel for 2 nights. Now, that’s an extra cost.

Thankfully, LEGOLAND California has hotel and ticket packages that combine both costs into one. As of this writing, the cost of such a combo starts at $219 per person for one night. Note also that it comes with a free 2nd-day resort hopper ticket.

If you plan to stay in either the LEGOLAND Hotel or the Castle Hotel, you have until June 15, 2026, to take advantage of the hotel-plus-ticket package. Or you can build your own vacation with a starting cost of $79 per person. This approach can save you up to 40% on Sunday stays.

LEGOLAND California has partner hotels across the city. Some even offer free shuttles to the park. But for those that don’t, you’ll have to keep in mind that your transportation costs will add up quickly.

The LEGOLAND Hotel or the Castle Hotel is my top option if I plan on spending the night. Both are on-site but that isn’t the best part.

You’ll get rooms that are big enough to house your entire family, with separate sleeping areas for the kids. Even better, your kids can have fun at the play zones or with the treasure hunt.

As of this writing, LEGOLAND is only offering the ticket-plus-hotel package at these hotels. And if you opt for that, you can push down the cost of your trip even further, compared to staying in an off-site hotel.

Food and Snacks

Besides the cost shock, another shock I received during my first visit was that real food wasn’t allowed. The resort isn’t a picnic location where you can bring home-cooked meals. That said, here are the things that the park allows:

• Small, single-portion snacks
• Bottled water
• Food for medical purposes
• Nutritional supplements, provided they are medically-indicated
• Baby food and baby formula
• Items that you need for religious purposes

Even the snacks must not require refrigeration or heating. And glass containers are not permitted. If you want to eat good meals and snacks during your trip, you’ll have to patronize the on-site food spots.

The food and snacks were surprisingly good during my trip, and they still are. A few spots I can recommend include:

• U.F.O. (Ultimate Food Outlet): This option is a full-on restaurant with seating, and it has 6 vendors.
• Satellite Bites
• Stardust Treats
• Burger Kitchen
• Chicken & Crown
• The Pizza Pit Stop
• Knight’s Smokehouse BBQ

Besides these, you also have to consider the dining options at the hotel if you are staying the night. The top spots include Dragon’s Den Restaurant & Bar, the Skyline Cafe, Brick’s Family Restaurant, and Pizza & Pasta Buffet.

Keep in mind that the cost is more affordable for kids. And that applies to the snacks and cooked meals.

Tickets – The Ultimate Decider

Once you’ve put all the costs I’ve mentioned above together, you can now decide which ticket to pick for your visit. And it might just be the cheapest spending you make, depending on how many people you take to the resort.

As of this writing, here are the valid tickets you can get at the park:

The LEGOLAND Park Ticket

This option is the most affordable as it starts at $69 per person. It includes admission to the theme park plus free entry to the SEA LIFE Aquarium. The only part you’ll miss out on is the water park and all its attractions/rides.

You can also secure entry into seasonal events and the new LEGO Galaxy with the regular LEGOLAND park ticket. And if you pick the 2-day option, you’ll have to budget from $109 for one person.

The Resort Hopper Ticket

The resort hopper ticket includes access to the water park. But keep in mind that the access is available between now and June 30, 2026.

Like the regular park ticket, the resort hopper option starts at $69 for one person and goes up to $109 if you pay for 2 days. With it, you can visit the theme park, the SEA LIFE Aquarium, and the water park. Even the new LEGO Galaxy will be open to you.

The Hotel + Ticket Combo

I’ve discussed this option earlier. It starts at $219 per person, but it offers one advantage when you book for 2 days. If you can’t run a 2-day consecutive visit, you can reschedule your second-day visit. LEGOLAND California will allow you to reschedule within three days of your first stay.

You’ll also get free daily breakfasts, which are tasty, by the way.

How Much a Trip to LEGOLAND California Resort Costs – Final Thoughts

Everything I’ve mentioned here is just for the regular visitor. If you want add-ons, extras, and VIP experiences, you’ll have to increase your budget. These extras could be the Fastrack package, annual passes, valet parking, etc.

Another final tip I will add is that you should always book your tickets online. It is more affordable to pay online than to pay at the gate. To book online, simply visit the official LEGOLAND California website.

The Creative Zone is just how it sounds. It is a place where builders of all ages can hang out around brick-build tables where they work collaboratively to design creatures in the Creatureverse. There are also build-along activities like “The Anything Animal” and “Let’s Create a Creature,” as well as photo ops with master builders.

Chill Out Zone

The Chill Out Zone is a great way to relax a bit after experiencing the excitement in the other zones. It has a floral theme and guests can see what it’s like to build flowers LEGO Botanicals style. The flowers are all added to a large wall display, so every guest can add something special to the collaborative work. Returning guests will notice that 2026 is bringing some new builds, including bees and butterflies!

Thrill Zone

The Thrill Zone is new this year and we still don’t know what will be included. We will let you know when the details are officially released. For now, we can tell you that this zone is positioned as a high-energy, sports-themed zone that will likely get kids moving.

Play Zone

Like the Thrill Zone, the Play Zone is new this year, and the specific activities have not yet been released. That said, we can make a few educated guesses based on what we’ve seen before. The Play Zone will most likely be focused on guests who appreciate the gamer vibe. LEGO has several video games, and this zone will give fans a chance to see them in place.

3 Build Challenge

As you go through the various zones during the LEGO Festival, you get the chance to add stamps to your 3 Build Challenge map. As usual, LEGO will retire some sets this year to make room for new ones. It will also release new ones, some of which are already available for pre-order. But what I love more is that the company never fails to produce something for every age group. And if you are in the market for products that’ll serve your children, you are in luck today. I have selected the best LEGO sets for kids by age, ranging from 2 to 12 years old.

If there’s one thing I know about kids, it’s that their interests evolve quickly as they grow older. As such, a set that will excite a 4-year-old might not excite a 12-year-old. You have to be particular about what you buy, which is why you have me do the market research for you.

In this 2026 guide, I’ll show you the best sets that fit kids from 3 years to 12 years. Also, keep in mind that you can get all the sets I recommend on the official LEGO Shop (USA | Canada | UK | Australia). But if an authorized retail partner is closer to you, be my guest.

The Best LEGO Sets For Kids Aged 3 – 5

For kids who have just crossed the toddler stage, here are my top recommended sets:

1. Blaze’s Horse Ranch

If you want to give our kids quality playtime with LEGO sets, the Blaze’s Horse Ranch is one model you should not snooze on. I love the Wild West theme, but I think your kids will love the versatility of taking care of their own range even more.

The set contains 209 bricks or pieces. For the storytelling part, you have 6 LEGO | Disney and Pixar characters, including 

• Woody and Jessie minifigures
• Bullseye the horse
• Blaze’s pet pig

I call it a preschool toy, and the barn setting allows the kids to explore. The barn comes with gates, and you also get a playhouse, a watering trough, and a veggie patch.

2. LEGO Medium Creative Brick Box

Open-ended LEGO sets are another area you should look at when sourcing models for your children. I love them because they not only support storytelling, but also give room for imagination. It’s up to the kids to decide what they want to build, instead of trying to replicate another design.

The 484 pieces in this set are sorted into 35 colors. Besides that, you also have windows, wheels, eyes, and many more figures to help bring your imagination to life.

For kids aged 3 – 5, this set is a golden find. Even better, the toy is compatible with other LEGO sets. Hence, your kid can expand other constructions by simply adding the bricks from this model.

3. Mini Arendelle Castle & Elsa’s Ice Palace

Set number: 43278

Another top option on my list of the best LEGO sets for kids by age is the Mini Arendelle Castle & Elsa’s Ice Palace. It has 306 pieces, but what it allows your kids to do when it comes to their playtime is what intrigues me even more. I’d buy it in a heartbeat if I were gifting it to any kid.

For the features, the set comes with 9 characters that I’m sure I’d still use today for storytelling, even as an adult. These include:

• Disney’s Elsa
• Honeymaren
• Kristoff

You also get mini castles, which are at the center of the play model. As such, even though the set is small physically, I have no doubt that your kids will have much to explore when playing. But keep in mind that the girls might appreciate this set better than the boys.

4. Big Interactive Community Train

Set number: 10428

This model is the most expensive on this list, as it cost $139.99 the last time I checked it. We get a modest 103 pieces, but the truckload of features is where the set stands out.

You’ll get 4 human figures and a cat. However, I believe your kids will love the lights and the sound that comes when they push the train. That reminds me of the new LEGO SMART Brick Play system that incorporates the same into their builds with SMART tags.

Keep in mind that you can also record your own sounds and use them. Such a feature is rare these days in regular bricks, which is why this interactive community train is a purchase you won’t regret.

The BEST LEGO Sets for Kids Aged 6 to 8

I believe it’s time to step things up a little bit. Whenever I’m recommending the best LEGO sets for kids by age, I try to consider what kids in certain age groups prefer. And those who are at least 6 years old don’t have the same preferences as those who are at least 3.

With that in mind, here are my top recommendations for kids who are aged between 6 and 8:

1. Cobb Vanth’s Speeder

Set number: 75437

I call it the safe choice because it is simple enough for any kid to understand and play with. It is also a perfect place to start if you want to build a Star Wars collection for your kids.

Cobb Vanth’s Speeder has 207 pieces and 2 minifigures. It is created for fantasy and action scenes. You can keep the minifigures separate or put Cobb in the driver’s seat and attach his pistol. There is also a hidden compartment you can use to stow the bantha milk carton and other items.

I recommend you get this set with others in the Star Wars collection. We may be past the May the 4th sales period, but you can still get something worthwhile with my guide to deals and discounts.

2. Police Train Heist

Set number: 60508

If you have kids you want to keep busy during their playtime, the Police Train Heist set is a must-buy. It comes with 1,313 pieces, which is somewhat too many for a single kid to put together. It is best positioned as a group project.

One thing I love about this set is that it comes with an electric train. It isn’t like the Big Interactive Community Train I mentioned earlier. For that one, you have to push it to move.

The set also comes with features that can help you stage a heist, which are

• Flatcars and cargo, perfect for the heist
• A helicopter and a claw arm

You also get an oval train track that keeps the action in a loop. And the characters (police, train driver, and detective) give you even more room to stage different scenes.

3. The City Tower

Set number: 60473

Another epic set you can add to your kids’ collection is the City Tower. It’s vibrant and well-positioned for display and play. As such, you can keep it on a display shelf after your kid is done building it, or you could leave it for them to play with their friends.

The City Tower has 1,941 pieces with 7 minifigures. It brings 3 levels of play, from the metro below to the space shuttle at the top. Even better, you can stage the space shuttle to take flight.

You also get a crane you can use to move things around. And yes, it works like an actual crane.

4. Mosasaurus Dinosaur Boat Attack

Set number: 77983

I haven’t been fair to the Jurassic Park collection in most of my 2026 guides. But for today, I can recommend the Mosasaurus Dinosaur Boat Attack set for your kid. It is one of the best LEGO sets for kids, as it not only ties into a popular movie but also provides features to stage an action scene.

In the set, you’ll get the boat with a crane and a tilting platform, a Mosasaurus that you can open the jaw of, and a helicopter. The set also contains other vital accessories that are common in survival stories.

The Best LEGO Sets For Kids Aged 9 to 12

Now, to the big boys. Here are the best LEGO sets you can get if your kids are between 9 and 12:

1. Mercedes-AMG F1 W15 Race Car

Set number: 77244

This one is for the car lovers. It is part of the Speed Champions collection and is perfect for play and display. On one hand, you get the authentic detailing we love about the original Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 car. That includes the team-sponsored logos and the iconic rear wing.

The set also comes with one minifigure, the driver, which is expected. And yes, you can place the driver inside the cockpit to simulate a race.

2. Battle at Drum Castle

If your kids have watched the ONE PIECE Netflix show, I’m sure they’ll appreciate this set. It contains 1,038 pieces that’ll allow them to recreate the action with different scenes.

You’ll get minifigures and a multilevel castle. Even better, you can open the walls to expand the castle even more. The first floor has a fireplace, with Chopper’s laboratory on the second floor. Several other accessories, like the pirate flag, are also available.

3. Garp’s Marine Battleship

Toys N Bricks sparked my interest in Lego again after I packed them away for many years. I started digging through my old sets to rediscover old Lego pieces. This build represents a progression in time. A Lego build from my childhood and another one in the present day with period accurate pieces.

So my submission has a funny story. I won week 2 of the TnB contests, the newer Olaf set was my prize, so we have Olaf, building something on his picnic blanket, a train, (as I’m Modeltrainman,) and for all these years, since we met and became friends, I’ve thought @Marshallmario‘s name was,(and I kid you not,) MARSHMALLOWMARIO, so Olaf has his marshmallow,( also in the set) and he has a tiny plate and tile Mario… Oh, and the TnB logo is there because we’re on TnB.
