Why you should be never afraid of taking risks

No matter what you do in life, you must take risks. Becoming content in life and settling for what you have is very easy. It’s comfortable, it’s familiar, it’s something you know and something you’re good at. However, being safe and secure is no way to live your life because you’re constantly selling yourself short.

In life, you need to take risks. No matter how scary it might seem, taking risks and diving into the unknown is the only thing that’s going to make you feel alive. You’re going to know what you’re made of and how much you can achieve. It’s a way to put yourself to the test and try to come out on top.

If you need more convincing that you shouldn’t be afraid to take risks, here you go:

Because it’s better to take a risk than to wonder “what if”.

The biggest reason I’ve always taken risks in my life is that I’m incapable of thinking about what would have happened if I missed an opportunity. Nothing is worse than wasted opportunity, so in my mind, it’s better to try and just see what happens. Imagine missing out on something because you were afraid to leap of faith. You’re going to spend the rest of your life thinking about what would have happened if you just took a chance.

I understand that staying with something secure is safe and comfortable. Unfortunately, feeling safe and comfortable is never going to get you anywhere. You can’t live your life thinking something is simply “good enough for now.” You must think big picture and take the risks you need to propel your life forward.

The worst thing you can do is sell yourself short. At the end of the day, if you fail, you fail. It’s good you attempted instead of never trying in the first place.

Because trying and failing is better than not trying.

If you tried and failed at something you should be proud of yourself. At least you tried to see what you’re capable of and what you’re made of. Otherwise, you just sit there thinking you’re not good enough to do something. You must realize that you are good enough, you need to be optimistic and think about your goals in life. When you realize those goals, you’ll do everything in your power to attain them.

If you never try anything in life, how do you ever expect to get anywhere? I realize leaving your security blanket is difficult, but it’s also necessary.

Because you’ll learn a lot about yourself.

You’ll be more aware of your character. You’ll be more aware of the kind of person you are. You’re going to find a new confidence that you didn’t know you had before. When you leave something familiar with something unknown, you will figure out exactly what you’re capable of. It’s going to show you what you’re made of.

Whether you crash and burn or achieve insane success, it’ll show you the kind of person you are.

Because what’s the worst that could happen?

Think about it this way, what’s the worst that could happen? If you fail at something, you fail. Big deal. Pick yourself back up and try again. There’s nothing worse than being content in life, it simply means you’re not moving forward. Have you ever heard someone say that life starts at the end of your comfort zone? Well, it’s true.

You need to push yourself, move forward, dream big, and make the life you want for yourself. If you stay where you are for the rest of your life, you’ll spend your entire life thinking about what could have been.

If you want to hear my honest opinion, the worst that can happen to you is failure and failure will just show you what you’re made of.

So here we are!!

As we all know, the last game for India was an amazing win and a fantastic way of starting the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup campaign this year. The next opponent for India will be the Netherlands. It is for the first time that the Netherlands will be playing against India.

The Netherlands team had to fight throughout the qualifiers to reach the group stage of this year's world cup. It is quite astonishing to see teams like the Netherlands, Ireland, etc. qualifying for the world cup.

2022 was a good year for the Netherlands as they got to play with England, New Zealand, West Indies, and Afghanistan before entering the world cup qualifiers. This year's world cup has proved to be a big boost for the Netherlands. Big tournaments like the world cup are an amazing platform for the upcoming teams to play against the best teams across the globe, get exposed, and opportunity to learn from the best. The smallest of the smallest interactions with experienced players will give the much-needed learning for the upcoming future for these teams.

Stating the Netherlands as the upcoming team, we should never foreshadow the fact that they have qualified for the initial stages to reach the group stage. India might be a favorite for this match but it should be known that no team is less in terms of competition when we speak about the world cup.

For the Indian team, it is good that Virat Kohli is back in form. The Indian fans wanted Virat to get back to his prime and boy, he did deliver. Arshadeep and Hardik Pandya bowled brilliantly taking three wickets in the last encounter. It was also good to see Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami getting back in action by swinging the deliveries on both sides. With the services of Ashwin and Axar Patel, the bowling department is complete and intact for the Indian team.

Some of the worrisome issues that India faces are the form of Rohit Sharma, Lokesh Rahul, and Surya Kumar Yadav. The Opening batsmen had a dismal start in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. It will be a good time for these batsmen to get back into form. If these two players get back into form, it will be quite convenient for the Indian team to go ahead in the T20 world cup 2022.

The Netherlands on the other hand, they have bowlers like Paul Van Meekeren, and Bas De Leede bowled pretty well against Bangladesh. Shariz Ahmed, Logan Van Beek, and Fred Klaassen too did an amazing job in their previous encounter. As for the batting considered for the Netherlands team, we saw Colin Ackermann playing a brilliant innings scoring 62 runs in just 48 deliveries with 6 fours and 2 amazing sixers.

The other batters like Vikramjeet Singh, Max O'Dowd, and Bas De Leede, need to step up their game for them to give a good fight against team India.

It is known as a fact that the Netherlands team has defeated England twice in the world international series. Hence, India would quite vary the danger that this team possesses and will not take this encounter lightly.

As for the individuals, playing Dream 11 and My11 playing circle, a good choice of the team would be 2 Netherlands (Colin Ackermann, Bas De Leede, or Max O'Dowd) and 3 Indian batsmen (Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav), Indian wicketkeeper (Dinesh Karthik), Allrounders Hardik Pandya or Axar Patel, with bowlers Mohammad Shami, and Arshadeep Singh making it to the eleven.

Virat as the Captain and Hardik Pandya is the Vice-captain for today's dream 11 encounters.

ICC T20 World Cup 2022 || India Vs Pakistan || Group Stage

A day before Diwali, one of the biggest tournaments in the World Cup happened between India and Pakistan. I am a bit late to describe my feelings but better late than ever. The maximum strength of Melbourne Cricket Ground, famously known as MCG, is around 1,00,024 of around 90K space was filled by the enthusiastic fans of both the teams.

It was magnificent to see fans turning out to the stadium to watch this fantastic match at the beginning of the tournament. After Covid, we are seeing this kind of atmosphere in the stadium.

Pakistan Batting:

After winning the toss, India decided to field first allowing the arch-rivals Pakistan to bat first for twenty overs.

India started brilliantly by ripping off the first 2 wickets within the first 4 overs. One might say that it is supposed to be India's game at this point. In were, Ifthikar Ahmed and Shan Masood. I did not hear much about Shan Masood before this game. At this point, I too had thought that it will be quite difficult for Pakistan to reach 130 runs in their specified 20 overs.

Thanks to the wit and grit of both Shan Masood and Ifthikar, they were able to stretch the partnership to 76 in a span of 12 overs. With the partnership going quite strong, Indian Captain - Rohit Sharma, brought back Mohammed Shami to bowl the 13th over. In the fourth ball of the 13th over, Shami was able to break the partnership through perfect delivery sending Ifthikar back to the pavilion through the leg-before wicket (LBW) appeal.

The next over was bowled by Hardik Pandya. After winning the IPL trophy for Gujurat Titans, he was back in action. He took 2 wickets in the same over, sending both Shadab Khan and Haider Ali. Following these two batsmen, the next one to follow was Mohammad Nawaz. All of these three batsmen scored in single digits and were sent back by Hardik Pandya. One might state that wickets were falling on one side, but Shan Masood was still going strong. He finished a well-deserved 50 and was able to push the total for Pakistan to 159 runs in the allotted 20 overs.

After a dismal start, I must state that Pakistan did a commendable job by posting a 160-run target for India for the second innings. Pakistan is known to have a fierce set of bowlers. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf. These three bowlers are the prime speedsters for Pakistan. With Indian bowlers doing a commendable job while bowling in the first innings, one needs to say that people in Indian fans were a bit dicey.

Indian Batting

India batsmen Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul came to the center stage. The crowd was quite ecstatic and ready for witnessing a spectacle chase. The average speed at which the Pakistan bowlers were bowling was around 140-145 KM/Hr. On the last ball of the second over, KL Rahul dragged the ball onto his stumps and had to leave for the pavilion. Soon Rohit Sharma too followed the pavilion. A brilliant delivery by Harris Rauf and a catch by Ifthikar sent the hitman back to the dugout. Virat Kohli, on the other end of the pitch, was calm and composed. It is a fact that Virat Kohli prefers chasing targets and is known to be a beast while doing so.

In came Surya Kumar Yadav in the middle and played a few amazing shots. But after that, he too perished. A ploy used by the Indian team was to send Axar Patel to the top to try and increase the scoring rate as at this point it was way low than one can expect. Tension and fear were looming amongst the Indian fans. People were starting to lose hope. But one thing was sure, former Indian Captain in the crease with complete calm and composure. In came Hardik to support Virat Kohli and boy, it was time for the momentum to change and twist toward the Indian side. As the celebration of Diwali was to begin in the evening, people did not know that the actual burst is just around the corner.

After 10 overs, India was wailing at 45 runs at the loss of 4 wickets. Virat Kohli at 12 from 20 balls and Hardik Pandya at 7 from 11 balls. Both players decided that losing any more wickets going forward will only make things difficult for the Indian team. The play started to turn towards the Indian side from the 11th over. Shadab Khan came to bowl the 11th over and was beaten for 9 runs. The next over by Mohammad Nawaz produced, 20 runs with 3 sixers, 2 by Hardik, and 1 by Kohli.

India reached the three-figure mark in the 15th over. With the last 5 overs, India needed 60 runs to complete the chase. With Virat at the crease, the people of India believed that the run machine is up to something special. The next couple of overs produced 12 runs, leaving India needing 48 runs in the last three overs. 16 runs in the next three overs consecutively. With an amazing shot to the boundary, Virat Kohli amazingly reached his fifty. with 17 runs scored in the 17th over, India needed 31 runs from the last 12 deliveries. Pakistan brought Harris Rauf back to the attack because he bowled brilliantly throughout his spell.

Tension spread across both sides, with 31 needed off the last 12 deliveries. People were not in their seats as well. the first 4 deliveries just produced 3 runs leaving 28 runs needed off the last 8 deliveries.

In comes, Rauf with pace and vigor, just to see Virat Kohli hit him straight over the bowler's head for a magnificent six. Next ball, same result. This time the six was scored on the left of the fine leg. An elegant flick and off-the-ball sailed across the stadium.

In the last over, India needed 16 runs off the final 6 deliveries. Everybody was pumped and as one might say, it is never easy to predict which team is winning during India vs Pakistan. Pakistan decided that they will let Mohammad Nawaz bowl the final over. Hardik Pandya tries to slog toward the leg side, loses control, and gives away his wicket after scoring 40 runs. An amazing partnership of 113 runs came to an end. Arrived Dinesh Karthik, is the next batsman. In the next 2 deliveries, 3 runs were scored, leaving 13 needed off the last three deliveries. The fourth delivery ended up being a full toss and bam!!!, hit for a six over the legside. To add salt to the pain, it was called to be a no-ball and declaring it as a free hit. In the next two deliveries, India scored 4 runs, leaving 2 needed off the last two deliveries. Dinesh Karthik was on strike and had miscued the delivery that was supposed to be wide. He came out of his crease to put the ball away, only to miss it and get stumped instantaneously.

With one ball remaining, the equation now read as 2 runs needed for the last deliveries. Ravichandran Ashwin came into the crease with complete calm. Mohammad Nawaz bowled the delivery, and Ashwin judged the ball to be going towards the leg side left the ball. One must state that it was an amazing thought process, to stay calm and leave the delivery getting an extra run, making the equation as 1 run needed off the last delivery. Last delivery by Mohammad Nawaz, Ashwin clears the fielders and India wins.

It is one of the best chases that I have witnessed over the last couple of years. With pleasure, I can say that Virat Kohli is back in form, and people, mind you, he is not done yet. One of the classic chases under the T20 segment and boy, one should state that it was a paisa vasool for all the Indian fans who came to watch the match live from the Melbourne Cricket Ground Stadium.

It's going to be almost more than one year since we have been staying at home and thinking about places to start we always wanted to travel right!

Well, now that several companies are producing vaccines for COVID-19, it is time for us to rethink or reschedule our plans to travel the different parts of the world. Today, one of the places that we're going to see is the Mackinac Islands. Located between the state's upper and lower peninsulas, the island was long home to an Odawa settlement and previous indigenous cultures before being colonized by the Europeans. colonization happened in the 17th century. The Mackinac Island is in Lake Huron. Well during those times it was considered as one of the prime places for trading fur across the globe.

After the war in 1812, the US was able to get back its islands from the Europeans. By the start of 19 century, Mackinac Island became one of the prominent tourist attractions. Now that we know something about these islands it's time for us to dive in to find what are the places that we can visit during our stay. Below are places that one can visit while on these islands.

Zero Waste: Is it Possible?

It is pretty true that as the consumer of goods from every corner of the global village, we end up generating a walloping amount of waste, right from the many layers of packaging material to the used, now ‘trash’ stuff that has no place in a modern household. We simply chuck it away at the bin and forget about it. The question that Mother Earth has pushed us today to ask, has led to many altercations about the co-existence of humans with the wastes that humans produce.

A study has laid the global average waste generation per person at 0.75kg, which means that a person on average, generates nearly a kilo of waste and we have close to 8 billion persons on this planet, the calculations speaking, themselves. This waste that we generate is a mix of biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and the newest additions to the group, the electronic and medical wastes. It is indeed an existential question to ask if we have enough answers to dealing with the wastes we produce, prancing dangerously on our very existence.

Philosophically and practically, the answer to most of the complex questions are often right in front of us and are so simple that we refuse to acknowledge them. Waste management has manifested today as such a nagging, yet important challenge that we often forget that they have pretty simple solutions that can not only bring Mother Earth to her green glory, but also unite her children into the religion of a safe, free, and sustainable environment.

The zero Waste concept is one such obvious answer to managing the wastes we produce. This can be very much related to the adage given by Ancient India’s most shrewd economist, Chanakya, who said, “When the grass hurts, uproot them”. When there is an issue of waste management, do not produce them in the first place. Something becomes waste when it does not seemingly have any utility. But when it is seen as something that has utility, then there is no waste, but raw material to something more beautiful. This is termed in an environmentalist’s dictionary as the cradle-to-cradle process, instead of the cradle-to-grave.

Like doctors, to give and save a life, every human being has the creative and latent potential to give life and upcycle the little things that can, in the long run, take a toll on Mother Earth’s dear (deteriorating) health. Amid the concrete jungle, there has been an increasing interest in urban gardening and organic fruits and vegetables, and the best patronage to this goal, is using the daily veggie wastes, that is, biodegradable wastes composting them, and boost the health and nutrition of the plants. This can reduce the biodegradable waste that goes to the landfills to stink, to turn into smiling plants giving not only healthy food but also a wonderful therapy to escape the stressful clutches of this fast-paced world.

Zero Waste is both a scientific and social idea. Using the advancements in science and incorporating them into society by effective social management, it is when the mind and the conscience work hand-in-hand and the intelligence is used to make the place we live in beautiful and better. Like the quote, “Waste is not Waste, till we consider it as waste”, to reduce wastes to zero, is important because it is the true essence and meaning of our literacy. Our far-reaching discoveries and literacy will be of no use if it does not help better the environment that we live in.

The ‘Zero Waste Lifestyle’ is a necessary trend, in not only households but also in public places and events that use up a lot of resources. Many opulent weddings which basically meant more plastic and more food wastes are now trying to incorporate alternatives like reusable plates, or even better, the traditional and imperious banana leaf platter, and steel tumblers. These banana leaves are super non-toxic and super useful for a humus supply, and yet so cheap, that these are the best alternatives to base the royal feast.

The plastic problem, has been recognized for more than a decade and the ‘easy-handy-cheap’ plastic alternatives to provide for all in the economic ladder, has led to a huge plastic production and distribution, also since the majority find it the best option. From toys for the kiddos to the slippers, the uncountable plastic bags in the refrigerator to the packets of milk and food items, all are protected by the great Plastic. The plastic packets of milk and other food items are emptied and thrown. Instead, one could use the traditional bottles or the vessels where the evening milkman would come with his bell. This could help greatly with improving the quality of livestock, and maybe generate some nature-connected jobs as well.

Another extravagant waste generation comes from the festivals, where there is a spurt of decorations in the market, 90% of them being plastic. Even the stationery that people and students use is plastic and lead, which are harmful to the environment. These are not used more than once and they are toxic and machine-made. The decorations of natural flowers, plain earthen lamps, colors of natural ingredients, and wooden and other bio-degradable and sustainable materials can help these crafts thrive gives a lot of space for innovations.

All these, through improper waste disposal and management, end up in landfills, polluting land, air, and water, and lessening the ‘good space’ for human inhabitation. An estimated 9-10% of plastics only get recycles. The Polythene bags are either in the landfill or crumpled in old storage boxes in a corner. The migrants decided to go home on their heels.

Many blamed the government and shared their memes,

Out of all this came forth one soul,

With a steadfast mind and team with a role.

National Handloom Day-The Prestige of the Swadeshi Sentiment

Every year, August 7 in India is celebrated as the National Handloom Day to commemorate the onset of the famous Swadeshi Movement, the first common man belligerence against the colonial rule and particularly, the partition of the Bengal Presidency, ordered by Lord Curzon in the year 1905.

Delving into facts from the past, this Swadeshi Movement, translating to 'Make in India Movement' was a pre-Gandhian movement chiefly orchestrated by revered Aurobindo Ghosh, Shri Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Shri Lala Lajpat Rai, Shri Bipin Chandra Pal, Shri V.O.Chidambaram Pillai, and Shri Babu Genu. This movement kindled a fire against forcible dumping of the relatively cheap foreign goods, the product of industrialization in the Indian markets following which the Indian weavers lost their stand, both in the market and in their sustenance.

This was one of the most indelible blows to the invaluable Indian tradition and also intensified poverty amidst the booming Indian population. So, on August 7 1905, a 'Boycott Resolution' was passed in the Calcutta City Hall to boycott buying of foreign goods, especially Manchester cloth and Liverpool salt. From students to oldsters and even many women, participated in picketing and vandalising shops that sold foreign goods, burnt the goods in public bonfires and also spread the essence of 'Atmashakti' or, 'the power of the self'. This was also followed by an increase in local entrepreneurial workshops to produce textiles, soap, matchsticks, tanneries, banks, etc.

More than a hundred years later today, crusades like the 'Make in India' movement, the 'Digital India' movement, the 'Start-up India' movements have reinstated the pride of self-reliance and patriotism. Apart from these are the increasing focus on local industries and employment of women in indigenous businesses.

One of the most interminable and laudable industries in India since ancient times is the handloom industry with great historic, sentimental, geographical significance and will have for many more years to come. The handloom and handicraft industry has deeply vested its salience as a part of the soul of Bharat Mata nurturing the lives of many and emphasising the soul-stirring hues and patterns of the very diverse subcontinent.

Let this National Handloom Day 2020, be an opportunity to know about and appreciate the beauty of the vast handloom industry in India and feel proud of the diligent hands that have, are and will keep this industry flourishing.

Be it dazzling sarees or draperies, handy kerchiefs or comfortable carpets, handloom has it all.

Amongst the Carpets and Quilts, we have,

1. Bhavani Jammakalam:- These mats made of coarse cotton fibres on a pit looms have a world recognition and are woven to this day by independent weavers in Bhavani of the Erode district of Tamil Nadu. Characterised by coloured bands, they are a feature in Carnatic music Katcheris or concerts, come handy when writers and poets need to relax and think and also when the entire family has to be accommodated comfortably for a nice family occasion also when someone needs a nice long afternoon siesta.

2. Navalgund Durries:- Made in the gymkhanas of Navalgund town of Karnataka, these durries(carpet) are a waning art with its legacy being passed down from generations, with women forming a major part of the production. It is made with unbleached cotton yarn and another cotton standard decorated with tassels in the corners. These durries have stupefying geometrical designs with village scenes, birds and animals weaved into them by expert hands and creative minds.

3. Pattamadai Pai:- The silk mats from Pattamadai town of Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu are the perfect gifts for a memorable occasion like weddings with the names of the groom and bride woven into the mats. These mats have a very complex yet fruitful procedure and are made with special kind of grass that grows there called the Korai or the Gorai grass. The usual colours used are black, red, yellow and green.

4. Solapur Chaddar:- The bedspreads from Solapur, Maharashtra that initiated during the Peshwa reign are an epitome for its grittiness and the warmth that it gives. The making process involves the entire weaver household and is a sure companion on journeys and especially the pilgrimage tours in Maharashtra.

5. The Kashmiri Rug:- The oriental rugs of warm thick material of shapes, colours and sizes. They have the colours of the gems and the rugs depict the culture and the tradition of hospitality, warmth and kindness of Kashmir. These are a soul of Kashmir introduced by the Mughals and a symbol of eliteness for the beholders of these beautiful and magical rugs giving a thrilling euphoria.

6. Mirzapur Handmade Dari:- This handmade carpet of twisted cotton yarn and jute twine to give a coarse feel and bright colours dyed into it is a must-have at homes. Made in Mirzapur region of Uttar Pradesh, these rugs now come not only with traditional designs, but now also with modern renderings and art.

7. Handmade Carpets of Bhadohi:- From India's largest carpet making region, a variety of intricately designed handmade carpets that bedeck homes and fill the plates of the many weavers. These carpets or Kaaleen are a part of many drawing rooms holding the memories of evening chai and family memories.

From the sarees section, we have many to know about and awe, here naming a few of them:-

1. The Kanjeevaram Silk Saree:- Weaved with bright and contrasting colours of mulberry silk ending in magical themed borders of zari often depicting temples, dancers, musical instruments amongst others. Going hand in hand with bedazzling gold jewellery, Kanjivaram sarees making anyone look no less than a goddess from heaven.

2. Mysore Silk Sarees:- The regal silks of Mysuru, Karnataka, gives an aristocratic feeling to drape over with lavish gold and silver zari border work. Made of almost 45% of the mulberry silks produced in Karnataka, the Mysore Silk handloom industry is one of the largest in the world with its products exported internationally.

3. Pochampally Ikat:- Coming from the 80-village weaving region of Pochampally, the silk-cotton sarees that have the smart geometric printing designs of the Ikat style. Pochampally also has the tag of 'UNESCO tentative list of iconic saree weaving clusters in India'. Even the silky kerchiefs that come along with these simply complement to perfection.

4. Kotpad Handloom Fabrics:- These vegetable-dyed ethnic handloom fabric of the tribal group of the Kotpad village in Odisha. These fabrics are made with Tussar silk, Cotton yarn and Aul tree root are the motifs used are of everyday items like the bull, conch, axes, crabs, etc.

5. Chanderi Sarees:- Made in the Chanderi region of Madhya Pradesh, these sarees are made of silk, silk cotton or cotton and have beautiful brocade works of gold or silver decked with designs of peacocks, florals and geometrical designs. These sarees reached a peak of their popularity during the Mughal Reign.

6. Patan Patola of Gujarat:- It is a centuries-old double weaving method that requires complex calculations and expressive creativity and uses the tie-and-dye method on the weft and warp.

7. Kuthampully Handlooms:- Made with the Kasuvu Handloom weaving method, the Kuthampully sarees, Mundus(dhoties) and kerchiefs are a favourite in God's Own Country. They are made traditionally by around 600 brahmin weaving families of the village.

Though only a few of the baroque activities of the vast and vibrant Indian Weaving industry have been mentioned here, it is a fact that handloom and handicraft truly exhilarate the Indian society from the grass-root level. It establishes the dignity of labour and breathes life and colour to all aspects of the textile industry. Traditional textiles also give a feeling of affinity to the nation and the humble home it comes from. Matryoshka Dolls: A Delight from Russia

From the largest country of the world comes this charming legacy, delicate to handle and enthralling to see, the bright and smart matrons, the Matryoshka Dolls. With its humble beginnings in 1890 by Vasily Zvyovdochkin and Sergey Malutin for the Children's Education Workshop with a vision of instilling a patriotic feeling amongst the children. The first Matryoshka set consisted of eight dolls the outermost peasant girl with a red combed rooster and the innermost being one of a baby. The idea of nesting feature was inspired by the Chinese boxes and the Japanese Honshu dolls. This first Matryoshka Doll set earned a bronze medal in the Exposition Universelle in Paris in the year 1900 after which production began for this chubby dolls.

The First Matryoshka

Contemporarily that these dolls are shipped all around the globe, the ingredients that go into its making should withstand the trial of time and travel, hence, focussing on the wood and paints used, yet, very slightly altering the chiselling of it. These dolls of a varying number of dolls are made of the wood of the Linden trees. As his last wish, the demon asked for his name to be associated with the mighty Lord Shiva and the place be named after it.

The Krishna River originates from Mahabaleshwar, from the mouth of a cow statuette, known in Sanskrit as Gowmukh, in the Krishnabai Shiva temple in old Mahabaleshwar. This temple was built by a Rajah of Ratnagiri in the year 1888 with beguiling ceilings and stone sculpted stanchions complete with a charming idol of Lord Krishna and a Shivalingam. At a little distance from the Krishnabai temple are the Shree Mahabaleshwar Mandir and the Panchaganga temple, where the confluence of five rivers- the Krishna, Venna, Savitri, Koyna, and the Gayatri takes place. It was constructed by the monarch of Deogiri Singhandeo when he visited old Mahabaleshwar in 1212 AD. Encompassing a cluster of temples, it offers a hair-raising view of the rivers and the milieu of it.

Apart from the religious havens, Mahabaleshwar offers bewitching geographical vistas, offering a heart-stirring experience of Mother Earth's formulations in the form of exquisite elevations and charismatic cascades. The next stop would be Hunter's point and the Connaught Peak, which the second-highest peak of Mahabaleshwar at an elevation of 1400 meters, formerly known as Mount Olympia renamed as Connaught Peak after Duke of Connaught visited the place. It offers an awe-stirring opportunity to delve into nature, into greenery, into the pure and serene beauty. Then comes the Valley View Waterfall and the Venna Lakeview Point after which you can go further down, don a life-vest, and relish boating in the beautiful Venna Lake.

The next visit would be to the west of the Mahabaleshwar Market to the Dhobi Waterfall and the Lodwick point and the Elephant Head Point, or the Needle Point. The Lodwick Point was named after Colonel Lodwick who climbed the Mahabaleshwar mountains and named the place as a sanatorium for the British, for the relatively cooler climatic conditions that the British were accustomed to. The Elephant Head Point is so named for the cliff-form that resembles the head and trunk of an elephant or like the hole in a needle. Being the most attractive tourist spot in Mahabaleshwar, this place offers an alluring view of the Western Ghats.

Touring into a history lesson now, after crossing the Koyna River bridge comes the Shivkalin Khedegaon, a traditional village museum depicting the golden Indian village life. Further ahead comes the Pratapgad Fort, the iconic 'Valour Fort' and the site of the Battle of Pratapgad fought between Shivaji Maharaj and Afzal Khan was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the year 1656. This place also has the 17 feet tall statue of Shivaji Maharaj unveiled by the first Prime Minister of India Shri Jawaharlal Nehru. A small temple was dedicated int the fort by Shivaji Maharaj for Shree Tulija Bhavani Maata, the goddess, whose temple Shivaji Maharaj was unable to visit. This place also holds the Maratha General Hambirao Mohite's sword encrusted with six diamonds to signify that he had killed 600 soldiers in the battle. Another interesting tit-bit of information is that the fort is currently owned by Udayanraje Bhosale, heir to the former Satara princely state. With the dessert of viewing the Sunset Point, a one-day outing to the Pratapgad Fort and its vicinity would be just perfect.

Now to the east of Mahabaleshwar, lies the Wilson Point of Sunrise followed by the beautiful Lingmala Waterfalls in Panchgani, a perfect rendezvous with nature. When it comes to filling the bag with souvenirs and goodies like tribal pieces of art, beautifully crafted walking-sticks(chadis), handcrafted slippers, berries, and their jams, Mapro Garden would be the best spot, and if one happens to visit the place during Easter, the Strawberry Festival would be the silver lining. Mahabaleshwar, known as the Land of Strawberries offers the tastiest and delicious strawberries and its dishes.

Preys of Killer Whales:
