A long‑haul trip should leave you excited, not exhausted. Yet jet lag has a habit of stealing the spotlight just when you want to hit the ground running.

The good news is that a few smart habits, both in the air and once you’re home, can make a huge difference.

This blog post brings together six practical, traveller‑tested strategies to help your body adjust faster, sleep better, and enjoy your next adventure trip.

1. Reset at Home with a Comfortable Simba Hybrid Mattress

Once you’re back home from your trip, quality sleep becomes essential for fully recovering from jet lag and returning to normal life.

A comfortable, supportive mattress like a Simba hybrid king size mattress helps your body relax deeply and fall into a natural sleep rhythm again.

Good sleep hygiene matters too: dim the lights, avoid bright screens before bed, and keep your room cool and quiet.

Your body needs a few nights of solid rest to recalibrate, and a high‑quality mattress gives you the best chance of waking up refreshed rather than groggy.

When I return from a trip, I’m actually rather excited to return home and sleep on my Simba hybrid mattress, as it’s so comfortable, it keeps me motivated on the bus home to stay awake, as I know a good night’s sleep is only around the corner.

For extra comfort, the pillows, topper and duvet Simba hybrid set complete the package for the ultimate home feel.

Perfect after a long and fun tiring adventure trip to return home too.

2. Stay Hydrated with water, and best to skip the Alcohol

Hydration is one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce jet lag.

Aeroplane cabins are notoriously dry, and dehydration intensifies fatigue, headaches, and that heavy, sluggish feeling that often hits after landing.

Drinking water regularly throughout your journey keeps your body functioning smoothly and helps your internal clock adjust more easily.

I like to travel with a 500ml water bottle that I fill up before my flight. Usually just after security (Airside).

Alcohol, on the other hand, works against you. Even as tempting as a nice can of relaxing cold beer can be on a flight, it will have the opposite effect on your body.

It disrupts sleep quality, dehydrates you further, and can make the time‑zone shift feel even more brutal.

Even if a glass of wine feels like a relaxing way to start your holiday, it’s worth saving it for when you arrive, and your body is back in sync.

3. Set Your Clock to the New Destination Time Zone Before You Fly

One of the most powerful ways to reduce jet lag is to start adjusting before you even board the plane.

As soon as you’re settled at the airport or even the day before, change your watch to the time zone of your destination. Just before boarding your flight is usually a good time to do so.

You can purchase a Casio World watch and set multiple time zones to prepare yourself for the new time zone ahead.

This simple mental shift encourages you to start thinking, eating, and sleeping in line with the new schedule.

If you’re travelling east, try going to bed a little earlier for a couple of nights before departure.

If you’re heading west, stay up slightly later. These small adjustments help your body ease into the new rhythm rather than being shocked by it all at once.

4. Sleep as Much as you possibly can on the Flight itself

Sleep is your best friend when crossing multiple time zones. It can be tough to sleep on flights, especially in Economy. Try your best to get as much shut-eye as you possibly can.

The more rest you get in the air, the easier it is to adapt when you land.

Bring whatever helps you drift off — a cosy jumper, a travel pillow, or your favourite playlist.

Noise‑cancelling headphones and an eye mask can transform a noisy, bright cabin into a calm, sleep‑friendly space.

Blocking out distractions helps you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer, giving your body a head start on recovery.

If you struggle to sleep on planes, even short naps can help. Think of them as energy top‑ups that make the transition smoother once you arrive.

Personaly I like to put on a boring movie to help me nod off much quicker, and that usually does the trick.

5. Stretch your legs, move about the cabin, and wear Flight Socks

Long periods of sitting can leave your body stiff, swollen, and uncomfortable.

All of which makes jet lag feel even worse. I try to choose an aisle seat for this very reason, so I’m not stuck for the whole flight in my window seat.

A little movement goes a long way. Stand up every couple of hours, walk the aisle, and do simple stretches to keep your circulation flowing.

Another top tip is to wear specialised flight socks, which can also help reduce swelling and improve blood flow and also adds compfort, especially on long‑haul journeys.

They’re a small addition to your travel kit but make a noticeable difference in how refreshed you feel when you step off the plane. Many frequent travellers swear by them.

6. Create a Restful Environment Wherever You Are

Whether you’re in the air, in a hotel, or back home, your sleep environment plays a huge role in how quickly you adjust.

Noise‑cancelling headphones, an eye mask, Flight socks and even a lightweight travel blanket can help you create a cocoon of calm no matter where you are.

If you’re arriving during the day, try to stay awake until local bedtime.

If you arrive at night, keep lights low and avoid screens to encourage melatonin production.

These small cues help your internal clock reset more quickly.

Doom scrolling social media or drinking caffeinated drinks might not be a good idea to switch off when you need to. Be prepared to sleep when needed.

When I fly to Japan from London, I like to have a long shower, eat a meal and then head to bed early, even if it’s not that late and get into a habit of sleeping long and waking up early, which is a great way to spend your trip.

I love walking around Japan early in the morning and watching the world wake up around me. Nice excuse to find a lovely breakfast spot to start your trip on a good note.

Jet lag doesn’t have to derail your trip; it can enhance it if managed correctly.

With a bit of preparation, smart inflight habits, and a comfortable sleep setup at home, you can minimise the disruption and make the most of every moment.

I hope you found my six tips to combating jet lag useful, and you have a wonderful long-haul flight and trip ahead.

There’s a particular moment of vulnerability that most regular travellers have probably never stopped to think about: the point at which you’re hunting for a cheap flight, jumping between browser tabs, comparing prices across three different booking platforms and entering your details for the fourth time in an hour.

Your guard is down, your attention is divided and you’re pumping a remarkable amount of sensitive personal and financial information into the internet.

At the centre of all of it sits your email account.

The address you used to sign up, the inbox where the booking confirmation will land, and the account where your boarding pass will be waiting.

It goes without saying that it’s worth making sure that account is properly secure.

Why your email account is the biggest travel security risk you’re ignoring

Consider what your email account reveals about your travel plans. Booking confirmations, full itineraries, hotel addresses, car hire agreements and travel insurance documents are all sitting in your inbox, painting a detailed picture of where you’re going to be and when.

If someone gains access to that inbox, they have more than just your email; they have a map of your movements and the keys to most of your online accounts via password resets.

Travel-related phishing, account takeover attempts and booking fraud have all increased significantly in recent years. Fraudulent messages mimicking airlines, hotels and booking platforms are increasingly convincing.

Securing your email account is the most direct response: switching to a provider with end-to-end encryption, enabling two-factor authentication and using a strong, unique password are the three steps that make the most difference.

The broader context of travel cybersecurity

Email security is one piece of a broader picture. StaySafeOnline has a practical collection of cybersecurity travel tips covering device security, network safety and what to do if something goes wrong while you’re abroad — well worth bookmarking before any trip, particularly somewhere unfamiliar.

Some simple habits make a significant cumulative difference: avoiding public Wi-Fi for anything sensitive, keeping your devices locked when not in use, and treating any email asking you to “verify your booking” or “confirm your account” with immediate suspicion. Legitimate airlines and booking platforms will never ask for your password by email.

Choosing a better email provider for life on the road

Privacy-focused email providers have become considerably more user-friendly in recent years.

Their apps work well on mobile, load reliably across different network conditions around the world, and the interfaces are clean and practical. The security benefits are built in by default with no complicated configuration required.

For regular travellers, a secure email setup is simply part of travelling intelligently.

You wouldn’t leave your passport on a café table. Your inbox, with everything it contains about your travel plans, your finances and your personal life, deserves exactly the same level of care.

A Mekong Delta cruise offers one of the most immersive ways to explore Southeast Asia.

Calm waterways pass through lively floating markets, historic temples, and quiet riverside villages.

This region reveals centuries of culture across Vietnam and Cambodia, where daily life still revolves around the river.

Careful planning ensures a journey that blends comfort, cultural discovery, and scenic beauty.

Choose the Right Mekong Delta Cruise Experience

Selecting the best Mekong Delta cruise begins with careful evaluation of itinerary, ship design, and onboard experiences. A well-planned voyage allows travelers to explore the river’s culture without rushed schedules or crowded vessels.

Small expedition-style ships often provide deeper cultural access compared to large river vessels. Many luxury cruises along the Mekong host a limited number of guests, which creates a relaxed atmosphere and more personalized excursions.

Some vessels accommodate around 40 passengers and offer spacious suites with panoramic windows that reveal constant river views.

Modern cruise ships on this route combine cultural immersion with comfort. Spacious decks, curated dining programs, and wellness facilities enhance the journey while maintaining an intimate setting.

Decide the Ideal Travel Season to cruise down the Mekong

Seasonal changes influence river levels, scenery, and available routes. Careful timing improves the overall travel experience.

High Water Season

• August to November often brings higher water levels
• Ships travel longer routes between major destinations such as Ho Chi Minh City and Siem Reap
• Flooded forests and vibrant landscapes create dramatic scenery

Low Water Season

• December to mid-August allows voyages between Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh
• Riverbanks reveal traditional farming villages and rice fields
•Excursions highlight daily life in the river communities

Both seasons present unique perspectives of the Mekong. Travel preferences and itinerary choices determine the ideal timing.

Cultural Excursions and Activities along the Mekong

A river voyage across the Mekong offers far more than scenic sailing. Cultural excursions allow guests to interact with local communities and explore historic landmarks.

Popular Experiences on the Mekong

• Visits to Buddhist temples and colonial landmarks
• Cycling through quiet rice field landscapes
• Exploration of floating villages and riverside markets
• Kayak excursions through smaller waterways
• Encounters with local artisans and traditional crafts

Guided outings usually occur twice per day and provide insight into regional traditions, history, and cuisine.

Expert guides often share stories of the Khmer Empire, Vietnamese culture, and the river’s economic role.

Review Onboard Comfort and Amenities on a Mekong Delta Cruise

The cruise vessel serves as both transportation and accommodation, which makes onboard comfort a key consideration. Boutique river ships often feature thoughtful design that enhances relaxation during long river passages, which often defines the experience of the best Mekong Delta cruise.

Suites commonly include floor-to-ceiling windows that display uninterrupted river views. Many ships include lounges, observation decks, small plunge pools, fitness rooms, and spa spaces. These features create a calm environment that balances adventure with comfort.

Cuisine often becomes a highlight of the journey. Some Mekong cruises present menus crafted by renowned chefs who draw inspiration from Cambodian and Vietnamese flavors. Seasonal ingredients from local markets frequently shape the onboard dining experience.

A Mekong Delta cruise reveals Southeast Asia through its rivers, traditions, and landscapes. Thoughtful planning helps create a journey that highlights culture, cuisine, and authentic local encounters.

The right itinerary, ideal travel season, and well-designed vessel shape a memorable river experience.

Carefully chosen cruises offer both comfort and discovery along one of Asia’s most fascinating waterways. With the right preparation, a voyage through the Mekong Delta becomes an unforgettable highlight of any Southeast Asia adventure.

The day begins early in Dublin, but the comfortable coach, friendly guide, and easy pace make the journey north feel relaxed and enjoyable.

As the city of Dublin fades behind you, the landscape opens into rolling countryside, and before long, you cross into Northern Ireland, where the scenery becomes increasingly rugged and dramatic.

Wild Rover’s guides are known for their storytelling, and the journey is filled with history, humour, and local insight that adds richness to the day.

Dunluce Castle: A Dramatic Introduction to the Antrim Coast

The first major stop is Dunluce Castle. This striking medieval ruin sits on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Even as a short visit, it sets the tone for the day beautifully.

The castle’s jagged stone walls and windswept location make it feel like something lifted straight from a fantasy novel, and the surrounding coastline is just as breathtaking.

Standing at the viewpoint, you can hear the waves crashing below and feel the full force of the North Atlantic wind, which adds to the atmosphere. I

It’s a place that invites you to pause, take in the scenery, and appreciate the wildness of this part of the coast.

The stop is brief; be sure to have your camera ready, and it’s best to wear warm layers, as the cliffs can be breezy even on a sunny day.

The views alone make this stop memorable, and it provides a perfect transition from the gentle landscapes of the south to the rugged coastline that defines Northern Ireland.

Giant’s Causeway: Walking Among Ancient Stones

The highlight of the day is the Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most extraordinary natural wonders in Ireland.

Whether you’re fascinated by geology or captivated by mythology, the Causeway is a place that leaves a lasting impression.

Formed by volcanic activity around 60 million years ago, the site consists of more than 40,000 interlocking basalt columns that rise and fall like a geometric staircase leading into the sea.

According to legend, the Irish giant Finn McCool built the causeway as a path to Scotland, adding a layer of folklore that makes the landscape feel even more magical.

Wild Rover Tours allows plenty of time here, giving you the freedom to explore at your own pace.

You can walk the main path down to the stones, check out the hexagonal columns for panoramic views, or follow one of the cliff‑top trails for a different perspective of the coastline.

The visitor centre offers interactive exhibits that explain the site’s geological history, but the real magic is outside, where the wind, waves, and ancient stones create a landscape that feels both peaceful and powerful.

Good footwear is essential, as the stones can be uneven, and the weather can change quickly, but the experience is worth every step.

The Giant’s Causeway is one of those rare places where nature feels ancient and alive at the same time.

Standing among the stones, with the Atlantic stretching out before you, it’s easy to understand why this site has inspired stories, art, and wonder for centuries.

My top tip for the Giant’s Causeway would be to check the hourly weather forecast before your arrival. The weather can change dramatically. If rain is arriving within the hour, then you might want to opt for the (Currently £1) shuttle bus to arrive quicker at the main site.

It is, however, a lovely walk to the main site, but if the weather does play a part in disrupting your visit, then a quick shuttle option might be able to keep you out of the rain.

Arrive in Belfast City: Wild Rover Tours has a few options

After exploring the coast, the tour continues to Belfast, a city shaped by resilience, creativity, and a complex political past.

Wild Rover Tours offers a few different tours and options to choose from.

You could take a Belfast guided Walking tour or have free time to explore Belfast at your own pace.

Another two options to choose between: Titanic Experience or Belfast Black Taxi Tour.

The option is yours.

Belfast City: Understanding History Through the Black Taxi Tour

I opted to join the 90-minute Belfast City Black Taxi Tour, which is widely regarded as one of the most insightful ways to understand the city’s history.

Local drivers, many of whom lived through The Troubles, guide you through key neighbourhoods, murals, peace walls, and memorials.

Their stories are personal and honest, offering a perspective that you simply cannot get from a museum or guidebook.

Photography is welcome, but it’s worth taking a moment to listen fully to the stories being shared, as they offer a rare and meaningful insight into the city’s past and present.

Another Belfast option is the Titanic Experience

Titanic Belfast is a striking, modern museum that brings the story of the RMS Titanic to life right where the ship was originally built.

Its sharp, iceberg‑like building stands over the old slipways, and inside you move through a series of immersive galleries that trace Belfast’s shipbuilding past, the creation of the Titanic, and the events of its maiden voyage.

The mix of interactive displays, atmospheric soundscapes, and real historical detail makes the experience feel vivid and personal without being overwhelming.

It’s a compact but memorable way to understand both the ship and the city that built it.

I was able to spend time here on a past trip to Belfast, which was my reason for not choosing a visit on this trip. Easily spent the whole time exploring the experience and got a lot out of my visit, would recommend others to do the same.

Making the Most of the Wild Rover Tours Journey

A full day with Wild Rover Tours typically lasts around twelve to thirteen hours, but the pacing is comfortable, and the scenery keeps the journey engaging.

In my opinion, the tour is great value for money without the need to worry about driving, and you can manage to fit a lot into the whole day.

One tip, I would recommend packing a good waterproof jacket and some warm layers just in case, as the weather in Ireland can change quickly when you least expect it.

Good to prepare for the elements. A bottle of water and a charging cable are also a good idea.

A day trip from Dublin to the Giant’s Causeway and Belfast City with Wild Rover Tours is a journey that blends inspiration with education.

From the windswept ruins of Dunluce Castle to the ancient stones of the Causeway and the human stories shared on the Black Taxi Tour, each stop offers a different perspective on Ireland’s landscape and history.

It’s a day filled with breathtaking views, meaningful conversations, and unforgettable experiences.

For anyone visiting Dublin and hoping to explore more of the island, this tour is one of the most rewarding and memorable ways to do it.

A day trip to Wicklow with Wild Rover Tours is a great way to get out of Dublin and explore more of what Ireland has to offer, away from Dublin city life.

Start the adventure with a convenient departure from Dublin city

Getting Started with a Dublin City Centre Pick-Up. The day begins bright and early, with different convenient pick-up points across Dublin.

Each tour will have different pick-up locations, so best to check the information with the booking prior to departure.

Best to arrive 10 minutes early, grab a coffee, and settle in, and the adventure begins the moment the wheels start rolling.

Hot drinks and cold food are allowed onboard, not a problem.

First stop is Kilkenny – Ireland’s Medieval Gem

First stop on the tour is Kilkenny, Ireland’s Medieval Gem.

Arriving around 10:00AM, after a swift drive from Dublin, Kilkenny instantly charms with its cobbled lanes, colourful shopfronts, and the majestic Kilkenny Castle watching over the city.

What can you get up to in Kilkenny?

You could join the optional guided walking tour to learn about medieval life, folklore, and local legends around Kilkenny. You can wander the castle gardens
or explore the endless artisan shops and cafés.

Why not enjoy brunch or lunch in a local pub? Fish and chips is a great option with a local pint of freshly brewed Smithwick’s.

You could even take the Smithwick’s brewery tour and beer tasting session, which is great fun.

You get just under three hours to explore Kilkenny, so make the most of your visit, and you have plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere without feeling rushed.

Next stop: Wicklow Mountains – The Garden of Ireland

As you leave Kilkenny, the scenery transforms dramatically. This is the joy of joining a day trip by coach, as you can experience the change in scenery along the journey.

The Wicklow Mountains are wild, open, and cinematic, not to be missed on any trip to Ireland.

Think sweeping valleys, rugged peaks, and endless green. A highlight is the stop at Wicklow Gap, one of Ireland’s highest mountain passes at 475 metres.

The landscape itself was even used as a filming location for the Mel Gibson movie Braveheart (And yes, it was filmed in Ireland!).

On a clear day, the views stretch for miles. Even in moody Irish weather, the landscape feels magical and mystical.

This drive alone is worth the trip to experience the Irish landscape at its best.

Next stop: Sheep Farm & Sheepdog Demonstration

Can you say you’ve been to Ireland if you haven’t seen a Sheep Farm & Sheepdog Demonstration? Well, it should at least be in your unique Irish experience things to do list for sure.

In the village of Laragh, you’ll start to step into authentic rural Ireland.

This isn’t a staged show; it’s a working sheep farm where you’ll watch a shepherd and his dogs perform traditional herding techniques.

I could easily watch a sheepdog get to work herding the sheep all day long. It’s incredible how well-trained they are and how they can handle all the sheep so well.

It’s a 30-minute live sheepdog trial demonstration put together by a local farmer. You will get to learn how shepherds communicate with their dogs.

Lastly, if it’s lambing season for the farmer, you may get the chance to hold and cuddle adorable lambs (seasonal but unforgettable).

It’s a heartwarming, hands-on experience that gives you a real taste of Irish country life. Not to be missed and all part of the day tour.

Last stop: Glendalough, Valley of Two Lakes

Last but not least, my favourite part of the tour, Glendalough, the Valley of Two Lakes. On a misty day, the lakes come to life, and it’s a pure joy to walk around, Ireland at its finest.

Glendalough is the soul of this tour. Founded in the 6th century by St. Kevin, this monastic settlement is one of Ireland’s most important historical sites.

What is worth exploring here? The iconic 30-metre round tower, for a start.
Walk around and check out the Ancient monastic ruins. The guide will explain a bit of history here at the start. Hike around The Upper and Lower Lakes.

The Forest trails are worth a wander if you have enough time. Make the most out of the glacial landscapes.

You’ll have around two hours here, which will give you plenty of time to learn a bit of history and hike around the lakes, which form as part of a loop trail back to the starting point, so difficult to get lost.

You can join the guide at the start or head out and explore independently. Choice is yours.

Whether you’re into photography, history, or hiking, Glendalough delivers and is well worth the time to walk around the lakes.

Once you’ve visited Glendalough, you will drive back to Dublin and should be back in the city for around 18:00PM.

Why do I Recommend This Wild Rover Tours Day trip from Dublin?

Wild Rover Tours stands out for all the right reasons, with a Separate driver and guide for safety and storytelling so they can both focus on the job at hand and give you the best and safest experience.

Maximum time at each attraction with no pointless stops, every stop is meaningful and matters to give you the best time in Ireland.

The local guides are experts in Irish history, culture, and folklore, allowing you to learn about Ireland, which is a lovely added bonus to your trip.

Comfortable and modern coaches with Wi-Fi and USB charging points.

If you’re looking for a day trip that blends nature, history, culture, and authentic Irish experiences, this is the one for you, and I would highly recommend Wild Rover Tours for my Dublin Day Trips across Ireland.

There are places that you visit, and places that stay with you. Sligo, The Wild West of Ireland, tucked between the Atlantic Ocean and Ireland’s myth-soaked mountains, is the latter for sure.

It’s a land of poetry and peaks, sea spray and sheepdogs, ancient cairns and cold‑water surfing with seaweed bathing chucked in for good measure.

At the heart of it all sits Temple House. This 1,000-acre estate feels like stepping into another century. You can even stay overnight—how amazing is that!

If you’re craving a long weekend that blends rugged adventure with slow, soulful luxury, Sligo delivers in every direction.

Also, if you would like to book this exact County Sligo itinerary, you can book it here: Uncharted IrelandCastles, Coastlines & Celtic Spirit

Arriving in Ireland’s Wild West: Sligo

Touching down at Ireland West Knock Airport, you’re just 30 minutes from Sligo’s rolling fields and dramatic coastline.

Direct flights from London Heathrow make it an easy escape. You can leave the city at breakfast and be sipping coffee in Sligo before lunch.

That’s the pure joy of travelling from the UK to Ireland, you’re never that far away for a quick visit!

Stay overnight in a Sligo country manor castle at Temple House

Your base in Sligo? Temple House, part country manor, part living museum, part wilderness retreat.

Think roaring cosy fires, antique-filled rooms, and views that stretch across green fields to the ruins of a Knights Templar castle.

And the incredible service and hospitality were put on perfectly by the family owners.

And don’t forget the Guinness on tap, And delightful full Irish breakfasts ready to greet you in the morning.

Day One: Sheepdogs, Poetry & Oysters by the Sea

Your Sligo story begins with brunch at Pink Clover Café, a bright, modern spot serving colourful plates and excellent coffee.

It’s the perfect fuel for what comes next: the Atlantic Sheepdogs Experience.

Watching nine border collies work in perfect synchrony with their shepherd is nothing short of mesmerising.

A dance of instinct, whistles, and centuries-old tradition set against the backdrop of Benbulben’s iconic cliffs.

A short drive away lies Drumcliffe Parish, the final resting place of W.B. Yeats.

His famous epitaph, “Cast a cold eye on life, on death. Horseman, pass by,” feels even more powerful when read in the quiet of this ancient monastic site.

By mid-afternoon, you’re standing at the water’s edge for the Sligo Oyster Farm Experience, a guided tour that ends with oysters, cheese, and wine overlooking Knocknarea and the bay. Fresh, briny, unforgettable.

Sligo town invites a gentle wander: artisan shops, riverside strolls, and a creative energy that hums beneath its historic streets.

Dinner at The Glasshouse Hotel brings modern Irish cuisine with panoramic views of the River Garavogue.

And if your timing is right, the Cannonball Supercar event might roar through town, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and a festival atmosphere that lights up the evening.

Day Two: Kayaks, Seaweed Baths & Queen Maeve’s Mountain

Morning breaks with a paddle. Sligo Kayak Tours takes you through calm estuaries or along the coastline, depending on the weather.

Herons, reeds, and mirror‑still water create a kind of quiet you didn’t know you needed.

Lunch at Honestly Farm Kitchen in Strandhill is wholesome, organic, and deeply satisfying, the kind of meal that tastes like it came straight from the earth.

Then comes one of Sligo’s most iconic experiences: A seaweed Bath at Voya Seaweed Bath.

In a private mountain-view room, you sink into warm water infused with wild Atlantic seaweed.

Your skin tingles, your muscles melt, and Knocknarea watches over you through the window.

Speaking of Knocknarea, the afternoon is for climbing it.

With North West Adventures, you take the forest route to the summit, where Queen Maeve’s cairn stands guard over Sligo Bay.

The views are sweeping, wild, and worth every step.

End the day back at Temple House with a nightcap by the fire, wrapped in velvet armchairs by the fire.

Day Three: Surf, Castles & Caves

Your final morning begins with a full Irish breakfast at Temple House, homemade soda bread, locally sourced sausages, rashers of bacon and the kind of hospitality that makes you feel at home (Even in a castle!).

Before leaving, wander the estate’s Knights Templar castle ruins, where ivy climbs ancient stone and history feels close enough to touch.

History comes to life on these grounds.

Then it’s off to Strandhill for a surf lesson with David Mulcahy at Strand Hill surf school.

Whether you’re a seasoned surfer or wobbling on your first wave, the Atlantic gives you a thrill you won’t forget.

Afterwards, warm up with coffee and a snack at Shells Café, a beloved beachside spot.

The afternoon brings craft beer and conversation at The White Hag Brewery, where a new taproom is taking shape.

And before you say goodbye to Sligo, there’s one last adventure: a hike to the Caves of Keash, ancient limestone caverns perched high above the countryside.

It’s the perfect final chapter, myth, landscape, and a view that’s perfect to end your trip to Sligo with.

Why Sligo is a great place to visit in the West of Ireland?

Sligo is a place of contrasts. Wild yet welcoming, ancient yet alive, rugged yet deeply restorative.

The Wild West of Ireland is a region where you can surf in the morning, soak in seaweed by afternoon, and sip whiskey by a castle fire at night.

And Temple House? It ties it all together, a sanctuary for adventurers who love muddy boots as much as they love old-world charm (Be sure to say hello to all the dogs in residence!).

If you’re craving a trip that feeds your soul, awakens your senses, and leaves you changed in the best way, then Sligo is the place calling for you.

In this blog post, I share with you my top 7-day itinerary suggestions for Louisiana.

I started in Baton Rouge, travelled to St. Francisville, and ended in New Orleans, spending two nights in each city.

There’s plenty to see and explore across Louisiana on a road trip, and I hope you enjoy reading my 7-day itinerary suggestions.

Pick up your rental car from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and hit the roads of Louisiana. With Direct British Airways flights from London Heathrow to NOLA, you would be rude not to.

Let’s start the trip by heading to Baton Rouge, a few hours’ drive away from NOLA.

If it’s gameday in Baton Rouge, don’t miss an LSU College football game

I’ve got a tip for you: If you happen to be in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on A Saturday and it’s College Football season, be sure not to miss out on an LSU College football game!

Louisiana takes college football seriously, and Tiger Stadium, the home of the LSU Tigers playing in the SEC College football league, has a capacity of 102,000+. If you’re in Baton Rouge, you won’t want to miss it!

Head along to the LSU university campus and join in on A classic pre-game tailgate, which is an experience in itself.

There’s nothing quite like your first-ever experience at a college football game. Today, I’ll share what it was like to step into the vibrant world of the LSU Tigers on game day, right in the heart of Baton Rouge.

Imagine arriving at Tiger Stadium on game day, the energy buzzing through the Louisiana State University campus in Baton Rouge. That’s where my immersive journey into college football began.

I have a ticket, and I’m going to walk you through a game day at Tiger Stadium, home to the LSU Tigers College Football, who play in the SEC – Southeastern Conference.

One thing I love to do when I travel is to enjoy participating in local spectator sports.

It’s a great way to get straight to the heart of the action when it comes to visiting a new country or city.

Understanding the local sports team is a great way of picking up the local vibe and culture.

Sports bring us together, and the passion and rivalry we all share for our beloved teams make the world a fun place.

American College Football hits different; it’s on a whole other level. Let me explain.

I have to admit, I’ve never watched an American football game live and in person.

I have watched American Football on TV, mostly the NFL and the Super Bowl.

But College football? I’ve never watched a game, even on TV, and didn’t know much about it at all. Oh boy, was I in for a surprise. College Football is a whole different ball game.

The NFL is the professional league, and the local Louisiana team in New Orleans is the New Orleans Saints, and they play at the Caesars Superdome, which has a capacity of 83,000+.

Tiger Stadium, also known as “Death Valley,” has an attendance capacity of over 102,000+ sports fans!

LSU Tigers, the SEC College Football team, have an additional 20,000 seats compared to the professional NFL team New Orleans Saints, down the road in the state of Louisiana.

And I haven’t even mentioned the numbers that tailgate around Tiger Stadium because those numbers can double on Saturday, College football day at LSU.

I just wanted to share the above numbers just to showcase the sheer number of fans that turn up for college football in the state of Louisiana alone.

Personally, I can’t get my head around college football being bigger than the professional league.

Maybe because the only equivalent to College sports we have in the United Kingdom isn’t anywhere near this scale.

And the stadium capacity for college football gets even bigger when you head over to Michigan Stadium, known as “the Big House,”. The stadium for the University of Michigan has a whopping capacity of 107,000+.

Not only this, but in recent years, College Football players could seek sponsorship and endorsement deals (Which came into effect in 2021).

This makes student-athlete/amateur-level sports more lucrative as youth athletes can still develop their skills whilst in education without the need to rush into professional-level sports.

Keeping the next big talents within College football makes the sport more exciting.

Heading to Baton Rouge, Lousiana

Flying into New Orleans and making the drive to Baton Rouge felt like the perfect start to my first college football adventure.

The drive is about 80 miles to Baton Rouge, roughly an hour and a half drive.

The anticipation built with every mile, knowing I was heading to the legendary Tiger Stadium, better known as Death Valley. With a capacity of over 102,000 roaring fans, it’s one of the most electrifying venues in all of sports.

Louisiana State University, nestled in Baton Rouge, USA, is more than just a campus it’s a culture, a tradition, and a community. And as they proudly say here: GEAUX TIGERS!

Practical Tips for travelling LSU Tiger fans, Getting There and where to stay

I would stay in downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I booked myself into Hampton Inn and Suites Baton Rouge, and the check-in desk was already decked out in LSU Tigers decorations, getting me pumped up for the game and in the mood. It’s great to see the whole city getting involved.

Parking at Tiger Stadium: Arrive early—parking fills quickly. Many fans park on campus lawns, so be prepared for a walk. You can pre-order your parking spots in advance if you want to park closer to the stadium.

Dress Code: Purple and gold are mandatory if you want to blend in with the LSU Tigers theme.

I was very impressed with the large selection of LSU Tigers merchandise. You name it, they have pretty much branded it. Everyone gets behind the LSU Tigers in Louisiana, and it’s great to see the local support. Be sure to get involved!

I would recommend pre-ordering merch from the Rally House Siegen Lane Marketplace online store for collection. Making it a little easier with sizes and in-stock items. You can also try the Barnes & Noble on campus for some last-minute purchases.

Saying this, New Orleans sports stores stocked LSU gear if you’re visiting the city before making your way to Baton Rouge.

You can also visit the Baton Rouge Target store if you want to pick up some pre-game snacks and drinks to keep in a cooler box back at your parked car.

Food & Drink: Bring cash for concessions, but don’t miss the chance to eat at tailgates.

Post-Game: Traffic can be heavy leaving campus. Consider hanging around for a bit after the game to let the crowds thin out a bit.

Here are my top GameDay Highlights – What to See and Do around the LSU campus

Aimed to arrive at Louisiana State University for around 10:00am with pre-booked parking. This way, we could explore the campus with enough time to enjoy the night game in the evening.

Explore campus and discover LSU’s Homecoming Pomping Boards

Started the day by exploring the LSU’s Homecoming Pomping Boards.

Pomping Boards are Large, colorful displays created by student organisations using thousands of tissue paper “pomps.”

They showcase LSU pride, artistry, and creativity, and are a great way to feel the campus spirit.

We headed first to the LSU Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, which had won third place in the homecoming pomping boards.

Tip: Arrive early to stroll through campus and snap photos before the crowds start to build up.

Time for Tailgating at LSU Tigers pre-college football game day

Now it’s time for Tailgating on Campus. Tiger Stadium can hold over 102,000+. Expect the same number of sports fans around the car lots and campus.

Tailgating is a whole day experience on game day, and some locals don’t even make it into the stadium. They set up the tailgate, hook up the TV, and watch the game from the parking lot.

Expect comfortable chairs, gazebos, TVs, BBQ pits, and even chandeliers hanging from the trees. almost like little mini congregated cities start popping up.

Loads of corn holes and beer pong to be played on game day.

The beauty of a tailgate is that all you have to say is a friendly hello, and you will be invited into the tailgate community. Beers, frozen slush machines, and gumbo boil on the go; this is what makes LSU special for tailgating.

LSU tailgating is legendary, with fans cooking Cajun classics like jambalaya, gumbo, crawfish étouffée, and fried chicken.

Look for tents, grills, and music everywhere. Don’t be shy—Tiger fans are famously welcoming. Walk around, chat with locals, and fingers crossed, you might be invited to sample the food.

I reached out to ask if I could join the Cajun Tigers Tailgating community ahead of time, and they kindly invited me along to the impressive Tailgating setup they have.

They had a massive truck with a DJ on top with a beer tap sticking off the side, it was all rather impressive!

They had a whole outdoor kitchen set up with hot plates, smoke ovens, and even a deep-fat fryer.

The idea is to cook up on the menu whoever the away team’s mascot is. As the LSU Tigers were playing the North Carolina Gamecocks, of course, fried chicken was top of the agenda.

Walk the Tiger Walk with LSU Golden Guys

Meet the LSU Golden Guys, A spirited group of fans dressed in gold suits who raise money for Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital.

They embody the heart of LSU fun mixed with philanthropy.

Be sure to bring some cash to donate and grab a photo with them. Don’t miss out on the LSU dance, and be sure to walk the tiger cat walk in style on game day!

Play some Beer Pong with the Away Fans

Jump on a game of Beer Pong with the Away Fans. LSU fans often mix with visiting fans for friendly games and banter.

If you’re competitive, jump in for a round. If not, enjoy the atmosphere; it’s all part of the fun.

Another fun game that you might frequently stumble across is corn hole which is also super fun to play and make new friends with other sports fans.

Pass by and say hi to Mardi Gras Mike

Stop by and Say Hello to Mardi Gras Mike, A Baton Rouge legend who brings Mardi Gras energy to LSU game days.

Normally, Mardi Gras Mike Roars to Life at Mardi Gras or on display at Mardi Gras World NOLA, but on Game Day, he makes an appearance and makes his way to the LSU campus and parades down Victory Hill.

His personality makes him a fan favorite. Spot him near tailgating areas—he’s always up for photos and spreading Tigers cheer.

The Golden Band from Tigerland marching band parades down Victory Hill

The Golden Band from Tigerland, before kickoff, the LSU marching band parades down Victory Hill, playing iconic Tiger tunes.

Be sure not to miss this iconic game day spectacular. The sound of brass and drums echoing through campus builds anticipation like nothing else.

Position yourself along Victory Hill about 90 minutes before kickoff to catch the full performance. See if you can catch some Mardi Gras beads.

Time for the game: LSU Tigers vs South Carolina Gamecocks

Tailgating from 10:00am, you forget that you’re actually here to watch a game of College Football. That’s the beauty of GameDay, with so much going on.

Time to head Inside Tiger Stadium, known as Death Valley, the Atmosphere, Deafening noise, purple and gold everywhere, and fans who live and breathe LSU football.

Be sure to arrive early to soak in the pre-game energy. Once inside, prepare for one of the loudest stadium experiences in the country.

The Golden Band from Tigerland will be kicking off the pre-game show, covering half-time too, and also sticking around till the end until they get kicked out of the stadium.

The Game I went to was the LSU Tigers vs the South Carolina Gamecocks.

The matchup is SEC football at its finest, with fierce competition and passionate fans.

Be sure to Learn the chants—especially GEAUX TIGERS!—and join in. It’s part of the magic.

On the day, LSU Tigers scored 20 and South Carolina Gamecocks scored 10. LSU Tigers grab the win on this Saturday college football night and the atmosphere was electric!

Thank you for reading my blog post about the LSU Tigers GameDay

Final Thoughts: My first LSU game day was more than a sporting event; it was a cultural immersion into Louisiana’s traditions, food, music, and community.

From pomping boards to tailgating, from Mardi Gras Mike to the roar of Death Valley, LSU delivers an unforgettable experience. GEAUX TIGERS!

Some trips change the way you see the world. They stay with you, not because of the luxury or the logistics, but because they make you feel alive.

These are the journeys you remember long after you have unpacked, places that challenge you, reward you and remind you why you travel in the first place.

This list brings together nine of those experiences.

Each one offers something rare, from the desert silence of Namibia to the sunlit stillness of the Amalfi Coast.

They combine comfort with curiosity, and every single one earns its place on any serious bucket list.

1. Namibia: Sleep Among Shifting Sands

Namibia wraps you in a lingering, peaceful silence. Begin at Sossusvlei, where dawn breaks over dunes the colour of rust and the first glow stretches across the sand.

Climb Big Daddy dune for one of the most dramatic views in Africa, or walk through Deadvlei, where ancient camel thorn trees rise from the white clay pan-like sculptures.

You will love how the desert changes colour every hour, shifting from gold to deep red as the sunlight moves across the sand.

Base yourself at Little Kulala Lodge, where mornings start with coffee on the veranda and nights are spent watching constellations that seem close enough to touch.

Venture north to Twyfelfontein, home to rock engravings left by early hunter-gatherers, and visit Kolmanskop, the desert ghost town being reclaimed by the sand.

The best time to explore is between April and September, when cooler air keeps the light crisp and the desert more temperate.

2. Japan: Find Stillness in the Snow Country

Winter changes the rhythm of Japan; in Nagano and Niigata, villages disappear beneath layers of snow, with steam drifting from natural hot springs.

Stay in a ryokan, a traditional inn where tatami mats, sliding screens and quiet hospitality create a rare calm.

February is the best month to visit, when snow blankets everything and the pace of life slows to a whisper.

Days are spent skiing through cedar forests or wandering narrow streets where paper lanterns glow in the cold.

Evenings bring the warmth of sukiyaki, shared at the table as beef and vegetables simmer in a sweet, fragrant broth, while locals pour sake as snow falls outside.

3. French Polynesia: Drift into Island Time

Scattered across the South Pacific, French Polynesia’s islands feel both remote and welcoming, and life moves gently here.

On Tetiaroa, stay at The Brando, a private island resort known for coral reef conservation and calm sophistication. Each villa opens to its own strip of beach lined with coconut palms.

You will relish how simple things feel with mornings spent snorkelling among bright fish, afternoons paddling across calm lagoons, and evenings listening to the waves from your terrace.

Visit a pearl farm on Rangiroa or join locals for a Polynesian dance performance.

The best time to visit is from May to October, when the sea is clear, the humidity is low, and the evenings are cool.

Meals centre on the island’s natural bounty, from grilled fish with lime to coconut sorbet enjoyed by lantern light on the sand.

4. The British Virgin Islands: Sail Your Own Route

The Caribbean rewards those who travel by water, and similarly, in the British Virgin Islands, the best journey is often the one you chart yourself.

Hire a small yacht in Tortola and set sail across the Sir Francis Drake Channel, where short hops link islands of white sand and coral reefs.

There’s nothing quite like waking up to a new horizon every morning!

Drop anchor off Virgin Gorda to swim at The Baths, a maze of giant boulders forming secret pools.

Stop in Anegada for grilled lobster served right on the beach, or snorkel among reefs that ring the island.

Evenings unfold on deck with local rum and the sound of waves against the hull. Sailing here is about freedom, pure and simple.

5. Rajasthan, India: Travel by Train Through Living History

Rajasthan moves at its own rhythm, filled with colour and sound that promises to sweep you up in its irresistible magic.

The Palace on Wheels beautifully captures that magic, taking travellers from Delhi to Jaipur, Udaipur and Jodhpur in wood-panelled comfort.

Every stop brings another layer of India’s story.

You can’t help but get caught up in the way life spills onto the streets, with markets alive with silver jewellery, handwoven textiles, and the aroma of spices in the air.

In Jaipur, explore the Amber Fort, an enormous sandstone fortress that glows at sunset. In Udaipur, float across Lake Pichola to dine at the white marble Lake Palace Hotel, once the home of a maharaja.

Meals on board tell their own tale, fragrant with biryani, slow-cooked lentils and warm naan fresh from the oven.

6. Greenland: Follow Ice and Light

Greenland is as remote as it is unforgettable, with vast ice fields stretching to the horizon, carved by glaciers that move silently toward the sea.

In summer, the sun barely sets, and the light turns gold around midnight.
Base yourself in Ilulissat, a small coastal town renowned for its UNESCO World Heritage-listed ice fjord.

Local guides take travellers by boat among drifting icebergs or by kayak along mirror-flat water.

Try Arctic char, caught that morning and grilled simply with herbs. Villages along the coast remain connected by small aircraft, but the fastest way to reach this wild corner of the Arctic is by private jet, which allows access to remote airstrips and lands you closer to the ice itself.

Spend an evening at the Ilulissat Icefjord Centre, where you can learn how the glacier shapes the land and hear stories from those who live beside it.

Immerse yourself in the experience of the midnight sun, stretching the day into something that feels endless.

7. Italy: Live Slowly on the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast feels like it was built to be savoured.

Roads twist between lemon groves and sea views, leading from Sorrento to Ravello and Positano, towns that seem suspended between cliff and water.

Stay at a villa overlooking the bay, where balconies catch the scent of citrus and the distant hum of vespas.

It is easy to fall into the rhythm of life here. Mornings are spent walking the Path of the Gods, afternoons are spent at cafés overlooking the sea, and evenings are spent when locals gather for music in the piazzas.

Stop for espresso or a slice of lemon cake made with fruit from the trees outside.

Lunches stretch into the afternoon with fresh pasta, olive oil and crisp white wine.

The best months to visit are May and September, when the crowds thin but the sea still glimmers with summer light.

8. Patagonia, Chile: Stand Among Peaks Shaped by Wind and Time

Patagonia, in Chile’s far south, feels like the edge of the world where the landscape transitions from rolling grasslands to granite towers and bright blue lakes, carved by centuries of wind.

The scale is enormous and humbling, the kind of place where you stop speaking without meaning to.

Base yourself in the Torres del Paine region at Explora Patagonia or Awasi Patagonia, where guides tailor each day to your energy.

Mornings often begin with hikes to the base of the Torres, where the peaks rise sharply above the glacial water.

On quieter days, ride horseback across open plains and watch guanacos scatter in the distance, or take a boat across Lake Pehoé for views that seem almost unreal.

You will love the clarity of the air here. Evenings are slow and simple, often spent beside a fire with a glass of Chilean red wine.

The best season runs from November to March, when daylight stretches late into the night and the weather, although still unpredictable, is at its most welcoming.

9. The Maldives: Float Between Sky and Sea

The Maldives comprises over a thousand islands that stretch across the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, each one a small world of its own.

Arrive by seaplane and watch as reefs and sandbars appear beneath you like shades of turquoise and jade.

Stay at a private island resort such as Soneva Jani or Gili Lankanfushi, where overwater villas lead straight into calm, clear lagoons.

You will love how easy the days feel. Swim before breakfast, snorkel with reef sharks and turtles, then return to your villa for lunch beneath a canopy of palm leaves.

In the evenings, dine on freshly caught seafood prepared with coconut, lime and chilli.

Many resorts offer stargazing platforms far from any light pollution, where the night sky feels impossibly wide.

The ideal time to visit is from December to April, when the sea is at its calmest and the days stay bright.

Final Say – Each of these journeys earns its place on any serious bucket list!

They combine the spirit of exploration with the ease of comfort, offering experiences that feel both rare and deeply personal.

From Greenland’s endless light to the stillness of Japan’s mountains and the warmth of Italy’s coast, each destination shows how luxury and adventure can coexist on the same path.

Travel with curiosity, travel with care, and let the memories stay long after you return home.

Title: The Yukon RV Road Trip Itinerary: Discover Canada’s Wild North

Discovering Canada’s wild north on an RV road trip through the Yukon.

There’s something magical about the call of the wild, and few places answer it quite like Canada’s Yukon Territory.

In this blog post, I’m taking you on an unforgettable RV road trip through this remote and rugged corner of the world, where epic landscapes, rich Indigenous cultures, and untamed wildlife await.

From Whitehorse, we’ll hit the legendary Alaska Highway, tracing a route that begins in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and winds its way all the way to Delta Junction, Alaska.

I’ll be covering the stretch from Whitehorse to the Alaskan border at Beaver Creek, an awe-inspiring leg of the journey that showcases the Yukon’s raw beauty and frontier spirit.

Getting to Whitehorse from the UK involved a transatlantic flight from London Heathrow to Vancouver, followed by a domestic hop with Air Canada.

If you’re planning your own adventure, I highly recommend booking your flight with Air North, the Yukon’s very own airline. It’s 100% owned by Yukoners, including the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation. Support local businesses like Air North and make your trip even more meaningful—start planning today!

The Yukon is home to Kluane National Park and Reserve, Canada’s tallest peak, and the largest non-polar ice field on Earth.

Its highways are made for RV road trippers, offering wide-open roads and jaw-dropping views around every bend.

I will also be visiting during Autumn time to enjoy the fall colours and make the most out of Aurora spotting opportunities this time of year.

Along the way, you might spot moose, caribou, mountain sheep, black bears, grizzlies, or even wood bison.

But the Yukon isn’t just about wilderness. It’s also a place where Indigenous heritage thrives, where culinary creativity is on the rise, and where small towns brim with history and hospitality.

So buckle up—are you ready to join this wild ride through the Land of the Midnight Sun? Start planning your Yukon RV adventure now and experience it for yourself!

Book your Yukon adventure with My Canada Trips

I booked my Yukon adventure through My Canada Trips; they took care of all the arrangements and bookings for me, as well as the itinerary and all the planning. You can check out the Yukon trip that I did here: My Canada Trips Yukon And Alaska Motorhome Adventure

My RV was arranged through Canadream, an RV rental company based in Canada. They had a Whitehorse pick-up RV office located at Hi Country RV Park. Here you can pick up your home on wheels for the rest of this trip.

We opted for the TCA Maxi Travel camper RV model, which was perfect for two people sharing.

Once we had finished our Canadream RV briefing, we went to Canadian Tire and a local supermarket to pick up bear spray and food supplies for the duration of our trip.

Drive to Haines Junction, the gateway to Kluane National Park and Reserve

Next on the agenda was to drive to Haines Junction for our first camping ground of the trip.

Embark on a scenic drive along the Alaska Highway from Whitehorse to Haines Junction, covering 150 kilometers.

Upon arrival, stop by the Haines Junction Visitor Information Centre, the perfect spot to start your adventure. Also visit the Da Kų Cultural Centre located in the same building. Gain insight into the park’s rich history and remarkable ecology.

Kluane National Park is home to 12 of Canada’s tallest peaks, including Mt. Logan, which rises to 5,959 meters, and features the world’s largest non-polar ice cap.

This awe-inspiring landscape lies within the traditional and settled territory of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations (CAFN) people, adding cultural depth to its natural grandeur.

If you’re looking for a spot to eat in the evening, I can recommend Frosty’s, that do a great fish and chips as well as a mighty soft serve ice cream.

Stay Overnight at Pine Lake Campground

Spend your first night in the RV at Pine Lake Campground, located in Haines Junction.

Water and firewood are available on site, but be warned, this is a no-hook-up or power site, so you will be off-grid. Bins and compost toilets are on hand.

Payment for your site is cash-only with a unique honour system in place, so be sure to have some cash on hand.

You will find the registration box at the campground entrance ($20.00 CAD). It’s the one with the big dollar sign on it. You can’t miss it!

Be sure to set your alarm clock; this is a great spot for stargazing, with little to no light pollution, and with a clear sky, you could be in luck!

And also make sure you wake up bright and early to enjoy a spectacular sunrise over close by Pine Lake, grab a coffee as you won’t want to miss it!

Continue your journey along the Alaska Highway

Embarking on a journey along the Alaska Highway westward from Haines Junction is a breathtaking experience that hugs the border of Kluane National Park.

This stretch of road, approximately 240 kilometers (or about three hours without stops), offers a scenic drive through some of the Yukon’s most stunning landscapes.

Be sure to plan your departure time accordingly to make the most of the day’s light and the many photo-worthy stops along the way.

You will be driving back through this route. If the weather isn’t nice on the day, you always have the return journey to fall back on. It might be best to check weather reports and times to ensure a clear day to enjoy the views.

Your first detour should be Silver City, a rustic gem that whispers stories of a mini-gold rush past.

Here, you’ll find weathered cabins and remnants of a fox farm, all set against the dramatic backdrop of Kluane Lake and the Slims River Valley’s mountain ridges.

As you continue west, Christmas Creek dazzles in the fall with vibrant foliage and a winding roadway that dips and curls through the terrain, making for unforgettable photo opportunities.

A must-see stop is the Thachàl Dhâl Visitor Centre, where you might catch sight of the elusive, all-white Dall’s sheep grazing on Sheep Mountain.

For those eager to stretch their legs, the Thachàl Dhâl Ridge Trail offers a steep but rewarding hike with panoramic views and potential wildlife sightings.

Keep in mind, Kluane is bear country—home to both grizzly and black bears—so practicing bear safety and carrying bear spray is essential.

Continuing along the highway, you’ll find fuel and supplies in Burwash Landing at Kluane Energy Gas Station, Store & Cafe. Well worth the stop, even on the way back, just for the refill coffee and fast WiFi alone. They’re open all year round and have a wonderful breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu as well as a great spot to pick up last-minute supplies that you might have forgotten.

Don’t miss the Yukon wildlife museum in Burwash Landing, complete with lifelike dioramas and the world’s largest gold pan, a quirky roadside attraction worth a photo stop.

They also have cosy cabins that you can rent out for the night, which are most enjoyable to stay in.

Stop by Beaver Creek and head to the Alaska/Yukon border

Beaver Creek is Canada’s most westerly community with a small population of 100 residents.

Be sure to stop in at Buckshot Betty’s for a bite to eat, and be sure to pass by and say hello to the Tourism Yukon team at the visitor centre.

If you ask Sid nicely, he might have a sticker for you. He also owns a private museum with a classic car collection and historical items from the construction of the Alaska Highway. You can ask him if it’s still open for the season.

Next stop, why not head to the border points between the United States of America, Alaska, and the Yukon, Canada?

From the Canadian side, you don’t have to enter the USA and cross border control to visit the site; you will, however, have to pass back by Canadian customs, so do have your passport handy and ready for inspection.

Once you make it to the border point, you can enjoy one of nine new Yukon welcome sign designs that can be found around the Canadian Territory.

You will also find both country and state flags and a bench where the border line runs right down the middle.

If you were to pass over into Alaska, you could keep following the road and drive all the way around to Chicken via Tok, which would bring you back into the Yukon to reach Dawson City.

However, the northern border crossing control is a seasonal crossing, and was already closed during our time of visit. Which was the reason for turning around and driving back to Whitehorse.

We did originally have a scenic flight booked with Rocking Star Adventures from Burwash Landing, but sadly, the weather didn’t play nicely on the day, and they had to cancel our flight over the ice fields of the Kluane National Park and Reserve. Safety is the most important aspect, so remain flexible with your scenic flight booking.

Luckily for us, we had an incredible last-minute opportunity to take a Scenic Seaplane Flight out of Whitehorse with Alpine Aviation.

And it was nothing short of breathtaking. We opted for their Mini Grand Canyon Tour, a 45-minute aerial journey soaring over the rugged mountains just south of Whitehorse.

As we glided through the skies, we passed stunning alpine lakes, and you can even spot wildlife from above, such as mountain goats, adding an extra thrill to the experience.

The panoramic views were absolutely surreal, offering a unique perspective on the untouched beauty of the Yukon wilderness.

If you find yourself in the Yukon, don’t miss the chance to book a scenic flight with Alpine Aviation. It’s an unforgettable way to see the vast landscape from the sky.

Embark on a Guided Aurora Viewing Tour with Northern Tales

One must do activity when in the Yukon, especially in the Autumn time is to try your luck at spotting the Aurora Norther Lights.

I have to admit, the sky was looking cloudy and we had less than a 10% chance on the day of seeing the Aurora.

Starting at 22:00 and being out all night until 03:00am, I wasn’t very motivated as the chances were low.

However, I gathered the spirit of enthusiasm and, with some motivational words from a local Yukoner (Even if you get 4 minutes, it will be worth it!) , I talked myself into going anyway, as it was the last chance before my flight home.

Wow, was I chuffed to have taken the gamble. Managed to enjoy the Northern Lights for a solid few hours and managed to capture the photo above.

It’s well worth trying, even with a small possibility that you might get lucky. absolutely magical, the sky was dancing.

I would recommend going out with a local tour company that specialises in Aurora viewing to guarantee your best chances.

Northern Tales, the Yukon’s original aurora viewing specialist, does a great job and collects you from Whitehorse.

This unforgettable experience includes transportation, expert interpretation, snacks, and warm beverages to keep you cozy under the northern sky.

While aurora sightings are never guaranteed and depend on solar activity and weather conditions, 2025 is a good year to try your luck as it marks the sun’s ‘solar maximum’—the peak of its 11–12 year intensity cycle.

making this an ideal time to witness the northern lights.

The aurora season spans from mid-August to mid-May, with the best viewing opportunities occurring on dark, clear nights between 10 PM and 3 AM. Best of luck! I’m happy that it all paid off and was worth the gamble. I wish you the same luck on your night, fingers crossed.
