But we’re jumping at least 3 steps ahead of ourselves; to break this particular cycle, Trek TV will need to consider the true nature of causality and determinism, realize how insane the Federation’s uniform designers went for a while, get stuck in our own deadly repetitive argument, and probably… 3 more things at least, with the most important undoubtedly being the greatest, gros-est mystery of this or any other age. So of course, we find plenty of ways to accidentally botch pronouns repeatedly, continually giggle like schoolchildren when someone talks about "getting inside the pocket", reveal the secrets of the enigmatic "Story of the Bases", take a stand against the disgusting perversion of split pea soup, and so, so much more in this exceedingly long and unfortunately timely episode of Trek TV! Probably the same odds that we won't be able to stop talking about relevant Boat Law, quoting notable Slavic historians, extolling the virtues of Chef Tony's most miraculous blades, revealing previously-unimagined Australian slurs, and so much more in this disarmingly gregarious episode of Trek TV!

Of course, because who doesn't want to shack up with the most shifty and paranoid jerks in the galaxy? Things look bleak, but with a little help from a briefly-lucid (and briefly alive) Sarek, a "favour" from a barely-accommodating Gowron, and a bit of Romulan spray-on tan, Picard and Data are on the hunt! But forget all that, because you know what we're REALLY here for: Vulcan Garbage Mysteries, Trash Kings, and weird 14-foot eels found in the lockers of junk freighters. We also contemplate the immense strain of emotional suppression on the Vulcan digestive system, question just how difficult it could really be to restore Data's beautiful complexion, and ponder the terrifying nature of the dreaded Klingon Table Skirt. All these, and even more, questions will definitely not be answered by the end of this particularly unresolved episode of Trek TV! Also (almost certainly due to Romulan treachery) there's some sketchy audio on this one at first but don't worry, it gets mostly sorted out about a quarter of the way in.

In theory, the same android who's been in Starfleet for MORE THAN TWO DECADES, and could probably consume the collected works of humanity in like one week off, would not be confused by basic human idioms and figures of speech so much anymore. In theory, a person being embedded partway through the deck of a ship as it briefly phases out and then back into normal space would be a pretty horrific, badass image that could haunt one's memory for decades... well, it's comforting to know that SOME theories do indeed stand up to the test of time. But this isn't a podcast about science, it's a podcast about simultaneously celebrating and gently poking fun at some of Data's more ridiculous inexplicable blindspots, recognizing that Chief O'Brien (or at least one of them) is a truly negligent husband, and butt troubles (*this content likely cut). "The Host" is a 2006 monster film by Bong Joon-ho, while his most recent, Academy Award-winning film is "Parasite". Neither of these actually have anything to do with this TNG episode, "The Host", about a parasite (well, it's a "sybiont" but what advantages it gives to its host are... fuzzy at best) who worms its way into our dear Dr. Crusher's heart (not to mention Riker's gut); however, watching either would arguably be a far superior use of your time than this sloppy, noisy, brother-makeout of an episode. That doesn't mean we can't (though it also doesn't necessarily mean we SHOULD....) "host" our own share of discussions about such topics as the bewildering origins of Trill society, the shockingly limited "ability to love" of super-advanced future humans, and the lickability of people-buckets. And hey, a lot more time in the oven with these same rudimentary ingredients did give us the far better realized Trill of later series, so at least there's that. So don't be like the poor Dr. with her crushed heart, dear listener, and open yourself to new experiences... namely, enjoying this possibly most-disgusting-ever episode of Trek TV!
