Today we launch a 7-day campaign to find 21 sponsors to each donate $3,000 and name a base camp on the way to the Summit. To achieve this crazy task, we need your help. Please download one of the buttons at the bottom of this page and post to your blog or site.
Then tell your friends to tell their friends to tell their friends and lets see how quickly we can reach the Summit using the power of iCommons communities around the world.
The first company to donate $3,000 is the South African company, Old Mutual. Thank you so much - you are our official Base Camp 1, first ‘visionary patron’ in what we hope will be an awesome success story.
Max Kaizen has a beautiful post (SA Rocks » Blog Archive » Internet Icons slam Telkom ..your help wanted!) about Larry Lessig and Jimmy Wales comments about the monopoly, Telkom. The comments are great - hopefully we can turn it into some action!
I am a lucky girl. Last week's SA Free Culture was an amazing success thanks to the awesome volunteers, new friends and the gobsmacking team at iCommons. Unfortunately I had to leave early (3.30am) - I had an early flight and a wedding the next day - otherwise I would have seen the sun rise with Dave as he partied until 6am at Opium. Larry is thrilled with us, Jimmy wants to come back, the lovely Gil from the Armchair Theatre wants us back and we have a fabulous team of volunteers and partners that have just injected the most incredible spark for free digital culture on the South African Internet.

A friend recently persuaded me to do the Eat to Live diet. This morning we talked about spinach smoothies and meditation - he's 2/3 months down the line already and not on the really strict 6-week initial plan, but he's meditating for 2 hours every day and swimming for an hour - all this from a man who travels more than anyone I know and who used to drink lots and play a LOT of online games.
I ordered the book online a few weeks ago and started the diet on Tuesday. Basically this is a fruit and veg only diet. Fruit for breakfast, salad with beans for lunch and salad with steamed veg for dinner. The only thing I'm really craving is a big hunk of cheese, but other than that, it has been relatively easy. I haven't been out yet, though, and I'm hoping that I don't fall off the wagon next week in Cape Town.
I'm not going on the diet only to lose weight (although I could lose a few pies I know) - I've had loads of stomach problems after I got bilharzia last year and many travel bugs before that, and I'm hoping that this will sort them out and keep me from getting sick.
Here goes!

Click on the image for invitation details to the upcoming ccSalon 'Bring 'n Braai' happening at the Armchair Theatre in Cape Town next Friday (20 April). Fathers Larry Lessig (Creative Commons) and Jimmy Wales (Wikipedia) will be down South on stage with bands Cabins in the Forest, Closet Snare as well as our very own DJ Whispa and Lucio K from Brazil.
And if you would like to sponsor the event, please let me know.
Dave Duarte and I will be MCing (I told him that we have to colour-coordinate ;) and the coolest people from Cape Town and Joburg will be there. Join up on Facebook, the wiki or just pitch up on the night.
It's going to rock!
