A former member of the Grateful Dead, Tom played on three of the band’s most iconic psychedelic albums: Anthem of the Sun, Aoxomoxoa, and Live/Dead. Tom and I spoke about his early LSD experiences; studying avant-garde classical with Luciano Berio, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and John Cage; GD50; this summer’s Jazz is Dead tour; and pursuing mastery of Chopin’s piano pieces in recent years.
