Vijay Drives Bolero, Flags Off Fleet Of 40 Vehicles For Health Department

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor-turned-politician Vijay was seen driving a newly launched SUV himself during a vehicle flag-off event held at the Chennai Secretariat on Wednesday. The moment, captured on camera, has now gone viral on social media.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the services of 40 new vehicles for the Department of Health and Public Welfare, including vehicles meant for rural welfare and medical services, worth Rs 2.9 crore. The event was attended by government officials, drivers and supporters.

After formally flagging off the vehicles, Vijay handed over the keys to the drivers assigned to the new fleet. The driver who received the final vehicle key reportedly invited the Chief Minister to take the SUV for a round inside the Secretariat premises.

Vijay accepted the offer, took the keys and sat in the driver's seat of the SUV. The assigned driver was seen sitting in the front passenger seat while the Chief Minister drove the vehicle around the Secretariat campus.

Videos from the spot showed armed security personnel and bodyguards running alongside and behind the moving SUV as Vijay drove slowly through the premises. Some guards were seen carrying guns while jogging beside the vehicle as part of the security arrangement.

People present at the venue were also seen recording the rare moment on their mobile phones. After the short drive, the driver reportedly thanked the Chief Minister.

Earlier today, Vijay paid a floral tribute to Pandit Iyothee Thass, a social reformer, on his 181st birth anniversary at the Gandhi Mandapam in Chennai. He was joined by several state ministers and senior leaders of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

On May 18, Vijay held an important meeting with officials from the Energy Department to review Tamil Nadu's electricity situation and the financial condition of the department.

Officials also discussed the condition of power infrastructure, including transmission and distribution networks.

Trapped In Lift For 1.5 Hours, 7-Year-Old Boy Dies In Pune

A seven-year-old boy died after getting trapped inside a lift at a residential building in Pune's Sinhagad Road area, police said. The child has been identified as Shivansh Shailesh Dhut. The incident took place at Riddhi Siddhi Apartment in Nimbajinagar.

According to police, Shivansh was playing inside the housing society premises at around 10 pm, as he routinely did. During this time, he reportedly entered the building's lift and pressed one of the buttons.

Police said the lift began moving but stopped midway before reaching the second floor, leaving the child trapped inside. When Shivansh did not return home for a long time, his family members and other residents began searching for him.

As the search continued, residents reportedly suspected that the lift may have become stuck. Police and the fire department were informed at around 11.30 pm.

Fire brigade personnel and a team from Sinhagad Road Police reached the spot and opened the lift after a rescue effort. However, the child was found unresponsive.

Police suspect the boy may have died after being trapped inside the enclosed space for a prolonged period, though the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

Preliminary police findings indicated no immediate technical fault in the lift, with maintenance responsibility resting with the housing society management.

Sinhagad Road Police have registered an accidental death report, and further investigation is underway.

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released chilling surveillance footage showing the exact moment a UPS cargo aircraft suffered a catastrophic mid-takeoff failure before crashing near Louisville, Kentucky. The newly released video captures the left engine and its supporting pylon tearing away from the wing of the McDonnell Douglas MD-11F operating UPS Flight 2976 just seconds after the aircraft lifted off from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport on November 4, 2025.

The cargo jet, operated by UPS Airlines, was headed to Honolulu when disaster struck moments after rotation. Investigators said the engine detached violently, erupting into a fireball as debris scattered across the airport perimeter and nearby industrial areas. Notably, the crash was the deadliest in history for the global logistics company.

According to the NTSB's preliminary findings, the aircraft never gained significant altitude after takeoff. Flight recorder data showed the plane climbed to only around 30 feet before losing control. The aircraft eventually crashed into industrial buildings near the airport, leaving behind a debris trail stretching nearly half a mile.

The crash killed all three crew members onboard and at least 12 people on the ground, while more than 20 others suffered injuries, as per the New York Post. Authorities described the scene as a massive post-impact fire involving aviation fuel and nearby industrial facilities.

Investigators now believe fatigue cracks in a critical engine support structure played a central role in the disaster. The NTSB said examinations uncovered cracks in the left engine pylon's aft mount lug - a key structural component connecting the engine assembly to the wing. Over time, repeated stress appears to have weakened the metal until it finally failed during takeoff.

US media reports say investigators are also examining whether warning signs were missed during inspections and maintenance checks. Reuters reported that Boeing had identified similar failures in previous aircraft years earlier, and federal investigators are now scrutinising why broader corrective measures were not introduced sooner.

The aircraft involved in the crash was a 34-year-old MD-11 freighter originally developed by McDonnell Douglas before its merger with Boeing. Following the accident, the US Federal Aviation Administration temporarily grounded MD-11 and related DC-10 aircraft models while emergency inspections were carried out across fleets, CNN reported.

The NTSB has opened formal hearings into the crash, with investigators focusing on aircraft design standards, inspection procedures, and whether regulators and manufacturers acted adequately on earlier reports of fatigue-related failures. Virat Kohli conceded that he went through a distressing phase after stepping down from India captaincy but profusely thanked Rahul Dravid and Vikram Rathour for helping rediscover the joy of playing cricket. Kohli moved away from captaincy in 2022, and that year he tallied a mere 265 runs from six Tests at an average of 26.5 with just one fifty. Dravid, who took over the stewardship of the Indian team in November 2021 along with batting coach Rathour, then rekindled the hunger in Kohli, putting a kind arm around the struggling star batter. “Only when I left captaincy, I opened up and I shared a lot more with people like Rahul Bhai and Vikram Rathour. I had a great run in Test cricket in 2023 and whenever I meet them, I always thank them from the bottom of my heart. “They really took care of me in a way that made me feel like I wanted to play for them. I want to perform. I want to go out there and grind it out. They were so caring and nurturing. They made me realise what I have done so far,” Kohli said during the third edition of the RCB Innovation Lab's Indian Sports Summit.

The former Indian skipper said Dravid and Rathour understood the demons inside the mind of Kohli, and found a way to push him past them.

“Rahul Bhai has done that way better than a lot of people in Test cricket. Vikram has been around for so many years. So, they understood what I was feeling and they could relate to it. They really took care of me mentally.

“So that really put me in a space where I could enjoy my cricket again. But yeah, when I was in the thick of things, I never really felt like I wanted someone to ask me. I was pretty okay with managing everything,” he added.

Under Dravid's tutelage, Kohli had a wonderful 2023, scoring 671 runs from eight Tests at an average of 56 with two hundreds and as many fifties.

But Kohli admitted that captaincy had consumed his inner-self without him realising it.

“I ended up being in a place where I became the focal point of our batting unit and leadership. I didn't realise how much load both those things will present in my daily life because I was so driven and motivated to make sure that Indian cricket stays on top.

“And that's precisely why by the time I left captaincy, I was completely spent. I was completely consumed by it. It was gruesome. It was difficult to manage expectations.” Kohli said such burden did not matter to him in his prime, but it began to weigh him down once he went past his peak as a cricketer.

“The key there during my prime was to make sure the team was secure. You know, that insecurity doesn't enter the change room. For that, I have to give massive credit to the management — Ravi Shastri and the team.

"But the form doesn't quite stay for long, then, yeah, both those responsibilities start weighing on you. So, it was tough,” he said.

Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has stressed that young batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi needs to sharpen his fielding skills before he steps up to play for the senior national men's team. "I believe scouts should also take a fielding test while scouting players. The scouts are bringing the right players; they are doing a great job, but I have not seen Vaibhav Sooryavanshi take a single catch yet. If he wants to play for India, he needs to improve his fielding ability. He needs to pass that fielding test first.

"The ball that came towards him was at a good height. I understand that when a batter plays a flick shot, taking a catch can sometimes become difficult for a fielder as it becomes a blind spot, especially when the ball comes off the bat. But there, the shot that Sahil Parakh played, the ball came to Sooryavanshi at a good height.

"Sooryavanshi did a great job by getting into the right position to take that catch, but he missed the opportunity to execute it. There was no need for Sooryavanshi to jump to take that catch. All he needed to do was take it near his waist, but he missed it. Vaibhav is really talented with the bat, no doubt about that, but when it comes to fielding, he is still not ready," said Kaif on JioHotstar's 'Champions Waali Commentary'.

With the bat, Sooryavanshi was at his sparkling best in power-play and hit 46 off 21 balls before being undone by a slower ball from Madhav Tiwari. Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh outlined the challenge of bowling to Sooryavanshi. "Against Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, my plan would be to get his wicket anyhow. But what kind of form he is in matters a lot. My plan would be to spin the ball and keep it away from his hitting arc.

"If he steps out of the crease and tries to hit me, that's okay. But I don't want him to play his shots while standing in the crease. That would be my bowling plan. But the kind of batter he is, at the age of 15, he is hitting every bowler for a six.

"I have played with many players, but I have never seen a batter like Sooryavanshi who dominates every bowler from ball one. I have dismissed Chris Gayle many times, but Sooryavanshi is at a different level altogether. His bat flow is something I have never seen," he added.

Trump's latest threat comes hours after he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday. The two leaders discussed the possibility of renewed fighting with Iran, while Trump also briefed Netanyahu on his recent visit to China, Israeli news outlet Kan reported.

Earlier, Iran's semi-official Fars news agency reported that the US had presented a five-point list, which included uranium transfer to Washington and put nuclear limits on Tehran.

According to the report, the US also refused to release even 25 per cent of Iran's frozen assets or pay for the damage inflicted on Iran during the war.

It has been over a month since the US and Iran agreed to a fragile ceasefire deal, but further talks remain stalled as both sides refuse to concede on their demands. Meanwhile, ongoing efforts have failed to end a war that has choked the global energy supply, driving up oil prices and sending shockwaves through the markets.

The war has placed severe pressure on the American economy, fast becoming a weak spot for the Republican president ahead of the midterms in November. Officials familiar with the talks told Axios that while Trump wants a deal to end the conflict, Iran's rejection of his demands and its refusal to yield on its nuclear program have put the military option back on the table.

Thousands of protestors joined British far-right figure Tommy Robinson's Unite the Kingdom rally and a pro-Palestinian demonstration in London on Saturday. Over 4000 police officers were deployed to manage the distance between the two rival rallies, with officers using drones, police horses and dogs and having armoured vehicles on standby, reported the BBC.

Protesters attending the Unite the Kingdom march waved Union flags, while some wore red "Make England Great Again (MEGA)" hats, chanting, "We want Starmer out." On the other hand, protestors at the pro-Palestinian march carried signs that read "smash the far right" and "Free Palestinian Hostages". Some protestors could be heard referring to Robinson and chanting, "Shoot him in the neck like Charlie Kirk." Some protestors also called for Robinson to be "hung like Mussolini".

The Unite the Kingdom march attendees gathered in Kingsway and then headed to Whitehall and a rally in Parliament Square. Some of the protestors wanted the current government to end, while others felt white working-class people were being discriminated against in the United Kingdom, the BBC reported.

Robinson urged the crowd to get involved in politics by registering to vote and joining a political party. "Are you ready for the battle of Britain? 2029 we have an election. We're not asking anyone to go out and fight, but this is the most important moment in our generation," Robinson said.

The pro-Palestine march began in Kensington before heading to Waterloo Place via Piccadilly. The march marked Nakba Day, which refers to the displacement of Palestinians during the war surrounding Israel's creation in 1948-49.

Several protestors described themselves as both anti-genocide and anti-fascist. Acknowledging the fact that some Jewish people were intimidated by their march, they said they were against antisemitism and the march did not support it.

Independent MP Diane Abbott told the protestors that they faced a "common enemy". "They are viciously right-wing, viciously racist, they are anti-Black, anti-Muslim, and viciously antisemitic. We have to come together... to fight the racists, to fight the fascists, to fight the antisemites," she said.

There were strict protocols in place for the march routes and by when they should finish. While police forces said there were no significant incidents, a total of 43 arrests were made at the two protests.

Kolkata Knight Riders' pacer Matheesha Pathirana finally got into action for them on Saturday, but their joy was short-lived as the pacer ended up hurting his left calf during the match against Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Finn Allen unleashed a stunning 35-ball 93 after surviving two early chances, as Kolkata Knight Riders capitalised on Gujarat Titans' sloppy fielding to pile up their season's highest total of 247 for two.

The explosive New Zealand opener made GT pay dearly for dropping him on 14 and 33, smashing 10 sixes and four boundaries in a breathtaking assault, with 86 runs coming through boundaries.

If Allen ripped apart the bowling in the first half, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (82 not out) and Cameron Green (52 not out) maintained the momentum with unbeaten fifties in their 108-run stand off just 53 balls for the third wicket.

GT dropped as many as four catches in the innings, with all three KKR half-centurions - Allen, Raghuvanshi, and Green - making them pay heavily.

Raghuvanshi got a reprieve on 52 by Washington Sundar. Green was dropped on 23 by Arshad Khan off Rashid Khan.

Asked to bowl first by skipper Shubman Gill on a sticky surface that had remained under covers after rain, Gujarat's disciplined attack struggled badly, as poor catching compounded their problems during KKR's relentless batting display.

Allen set the tone as the home side raced to 100 in nine overs; they then took just eight more overs to get to 200, with the Green-Raghuvanshi combine doing well in their must-win match.

He survived a difficult chance on 14 when the tall Jason Holder got his fingertips to a sharp opportunity at cover off Mohammed Siraj.

The Kiwi opener then tore into Kagiso Rabada, launching successive sixes - one straight over mid-off and another whipped over midwicket off a 149 kph delivery - to race to 28 from just 11 balls.

While Allen dominated from one end, Ajinkya Rahane never quite settled during his scratchy 14 off 14 balls before Siraj cleaned him up.

There was a brief slowdown inside the powerplay after Rahane's departure before Allen got another life.

Introduced into the attack, Holder induced a mishit from the batter, but Siraj spilled a straightforward catch at long-on.

From there, Allen went into overdrive.

He attacked both pace and spin with equal ease, picking lengths early and clearing the boundaries effortlessly.

Rashid was welcomed with two sixes and a four as Allen stormed to a 21-ball half-century.

Raghuvanshi played the ideal supporting role. The young batter used the pace cleverly and kept the scoreboard ticking, including a sharp scoop over the wicketkeeper off Rabada to get going.

Allen looked set for a second IPL hundred this season before Rashid finally ended the carnage, taking a well-judged catch at deep midwicket off Sai Kishore.

Green ensured there was no let-up in the closing overs.

The Australian all-rounder tore into the GT attack with three sixes, while Raghuvanshi also stepped up as KKR finished with a big total.

Finfluencer and content creator Ankur Warikoo on Friday (May 15) announced the closure of his education platform that provides upskilling courses. In a social media post, Warikoo said continuing the business "did not make sense", despite the venture's strong financial track record over the past six years. According to Warikoo, the platform achieved significant commercial success during its operation, generating Rs 100 crore in total sales and securing Rs 25 crore in profits.

"I am shutting down my 100 crores courses business. We've grown beyond what I could have imagined since we started in 2020," wrote Warikoo in an X (formerly Twitter) post, adding: "5 lakh students. 100 crores in sales. 25 crores in profits. But it makes no sense to continue it."

Warikoo added that he would share more details about the decision in another video scheduled for Saturday (May 16) at 8:30 pm IST.

"I'll be sharing more about my decision and what happens next tomorrow, May 16, 8:30 PM. Set a reminder," he added.

The bilateral summit between the United States and China in Beijing did not feature a single woman. Photographs that emerged from the high-stakes meeting at the Great Hall of the People between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping revealed entirely male delegations.

The visuals have triggered widespread backlash and a global debate regarding gender representation at the highest levels of diplomacy.

Gita Gopinath, an economics professor at Harvard University, took to X and described the all-male optics as, "A painting of the end of meritocracy: A meeting of the two largest economies and not one woman at the table."

She spoke to the Guardian and further described the situation as "inexplicable" about how the two countries ended up with a "single-gender" table despite having many talented women around the world.

"We have somehow gravitated back to this idea that what matters is your network and not your capabilities - and that matters [in terms of] whether or not you get a seat at the table," Gopinath said.

Halima Kazem, the associate director for Stanford University's programme in feminist, gender, and sexuality studies, also raised her voice on the issue to say that the world has "gone backward". She drew a comparison between the Obama-era US-China summit and the current one and said that the former "included women at the table".

"Now neither superpower thinks women belong in the room where great power politics happens," she told the publication.

Kazem noted that the absence of women is not just an "American failure" but a signal from both sides that women's voices do not count when it comes to "shaping the global order".

She highlighted that the choice to present an exclusively male lineup projected a "masculine, militarised, and exclusionary" form of global authority.

Earlier, the summits during the US-China summits during the Obama era featured prominent senior female officials like Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice, and Liu Yandong.

Although the US-China bilateral meeting in the Great Hall of the People did not include women, a few accompanied Trump on his visit to Beijing, including his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, Jane Fraser, the CEO of Citigroup and Meta President Dina Powell McCormick.

Chennai Super Kings' dreams of reaching the IPL 2026 Playoffs were dealt a massive blow as the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side slumped to a 7-wicket loss against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on Friday. Akash Singh took three wickets against his old side but Kartik Sharma ended up scoring a fiery half-century to take CSK to 187/5 in 20 overs. In response, Mitchell Marsh slammed 90 off just 38 deliveries while Josh Inglis scored 36 as LSG completed the run chase with more than three overs to spare. As a result, CSK dropped to the sixth position with 12 points. They have the same number of points as Rajasthan Royals but they fell down one position in the points table due to an inferior Net Run Rate (NRR).

If CSK win both of their remaining matches - Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans, they will have 16 points from 14 matches and that should be just enough to book a Top 4 spot for the five-time champions. However, with 5 teams having the chance to reach 16 points or above, it can be an extremely difficult scenario for CSK.

On the other hand, if they win just one of their remaining matches, they will have just 14 points from 12 matches and in that situation, it will be highly unlikely that they will be able to finish in the Top 4. In that case, they will have to depend completely on other results going their way and Net Run Rate (NRR).

On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants were already eliminated from the IPL 2026 Playoffs race.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad reacted to the heavy defeat.

Trump Leaves China With Big Claims, Few Details And No Confirmation

US President Donald Trump wrapped up his two-day visit to Beijing on Friday by declaring that his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping had produced major economic gains for Washington, including large-scale purchases of American aircraft, agricultural goods and energy and medical products.

Speaking before departing China, Trump said the meetings had resulted in "fantastic trade deals" and settled "a lot of different problems" in his meetings with China's Xi Jinping this week. However, the details of the deals and problems Trump has spoken about have not come to light yet.

"We've made some fantastic trade deals, great for both countries," Trump said after taking a walk with Xi through the gardens of Zhongnanhai, the leadership compound adjacent to the Forbidden City.

"We've settled a lot of different problems that other people wouldn't have been able to solve," he added, though he did not specify which issues had been resolved.

According to Trump and senior US officials, Beijing agreed to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft, with the possibility of hundreds more in the future, along with billions of dollars worth of American soybeans, oil, medical equipment and agricultural exports.

However, despite the sweeping claims from the US side, Chinese officials offered little public confirmation. Beijing refrained from formally announcing any of the agreements, and the foreign ministry did not confirm or deny Trump's statements when questioned by reporters.

Trump Says Xi Offered Help On Hormuz Crisis

Beyond trade, Trump also claimed progress had been made on one of the most sensitive geopolitical flashpoints - the Strait of Hormuz.

After the summit's opening day, the US president said Xi had indicated a willingness to help keep the crucial shipping route open amid growing tensions linked to Iran.

"He'd like to see the Hormuz Strait open, and said 'if I can be of any help whatsoever, I would like to help'," Trump said during an interview with Fox News.

The remarks came as Iran's confrontation with the West continues to threaten maritime traffic through the strategic waterway, a vital route for global oil shipments.

While China's foreign ministry later issued a statement saying "shipping lanes should be reopened as soon as possible", a ministry spokesperson did not confirm whether Xi had directly offered assistance to Washington on the issue.

Trump said that Xi had reassured him China was not preparing to provide military assistance to Tehran, though Beijing again made no public reference to such assurances.

Beijing Stays Quiet As Trump Touts 'Victories'

The contrast between Trump's enthusiastic messaging and China's restrained response became one of the defining features of the summit.

Throughout the visit, Trump repeatedly praised Xi, referring to him as a "great leader" and a "friend", while projecting the meetings as a diplomatic and economic success for the United States.

In another interview following the summit, Trump said Xi had agreed to several items on Washington's economic wishlist, including purchases of Boeing aircraft and American farm goods.

"One business deal struck involved Xi agreeing to purchase '200 big' Boeing jets," Trump said.

Later, while travelling back aboard Air Force One, he expanded on the claim, saying the agreement could eventually involve "a promise of 750 planes... if they do a good job with the 200".

Trump further stated that China had "agreed it wanted to buy" US oil and would also be "buying billions of dollars of soybeans".

Yet Chinese authorities continued to maintain silence on the specifics, neither confirming nor denying the reported deals.

Stephen Olson, a former US trade negotiator, told The New York Times that the summit was less about dramatic breakthroughs and more about stabilising ties between the world's two largest economies.

"No major breakthroughs were expected and none were achieved, but both countries got what they needed from this summit, a bit of additional stability," Olson said.

According to Olson, both leaders walked away with political advantages. Trump gained economic announcements he could present as victories at home, while Xi used the meeting to reinforce China's standing on the global stage.

Mr Xi presented China "as a full peer competitor to the United States, a country that does not need to bend the knee to US demands", Olson said.

US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping are set to tackle thorny issues dividing the two superpowers when they meet in Beijing on Thursday, with Iran, trade and Taiwan on the cards.

Xi will greet Trump with pomp and ceremony as they meet at 10:00 am (0200 GMT) in the opulent Great Hall of the People, a lavish welcome that belies the deep tensions between the world's biggest economies.

The two leaders will also enjoy a state banquet at the hall in the evening, and Trump will visit the historic Temple of Heaven, a World Heritage site where China's emperors once prayed for good harvest.

The US president arrived for the two-day summit on Air Force One late Wednesday accompanied by top CEOs, including Nvidia's Jensen Huang and Tesla's Elon Musk -- symbols of business deals Trump hopes to reach.

He was given a red carpet welcome, with 300 Chinese youth in white uniforms chanting "welcome" and waving small Chinese and US flags in unison as he descended the steps of the presidential plane pumping his fist.

On Friday, Trump and Xi are set to have tea and a working lunch before the US president heads home to Washington.

The trip to Beijing marks the first by a US president in nearly a decade, after Trump visited in 2017, accompanied -- unlike this time -- by his wife Melania.

Following that first visit, Trump unleashed a barrage of tariffs and restrictions on Chinese goods. He did so again after returning to the White House last year, triggering a trade war before Xi and Trump agreed to a truce in October.

'Big Hug'

Trump has said he expects a "great big hug" from Xi as he banks on what he believes is a strong personal relationship with the Chinese leader who he has admiringly said rules China with an "iron fist".

Top of his wish list will be business deals on agriculture, aircraft and other topics, with a host of top businessmen in the US leader's delegation.

Aboard Air Force One en route to Beijing, Trump vowed on social media to push Xi to "open up" China to US firms "so that these brilliant people can work their magic".

The Chinese foreign ministry said Wednesday it "welcomes" Trump's visit and that "China stands ready to work with the United States...to expand cooperation and manage differences".

But Trump is dealing with a different and more emboldened China to the one he visited nine years ago, with a host of unresolved trade and geopolitical tensions between the two countries.

The Iran war in particular has threatened to weaken Trump's position in talks with Xi, having already forced him to postpone it from March.

The US president said he expected a "long talk" with Xi about Iran, which sells most of its US-sanctioned oil to China, but insisted that "I don't think we need any help with Iran" from Beijing.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio struck a somewhat different tone.

"We hope to convince them to play a more active role in getting Iran to walk away from what they are doing now, and trying to do now in the Persian Gulf," US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told broadcaster Fox News in an interview aired Wednesday.

Tariff Truce?

The long-simmering trade war between the two countries will also be top of the agenda, after Trump's sweeping tariffs last year triggered tit-for-tat levies that exceeded 100 per cent.

Trump and Xi are set to discuss extending a one-year tariff truce, which the two leaders reached during their last meeting in South Korea in October, although a deal is far from certain.

On Taiwan, another issue that has bedevilled ties, Trump said Monday he would speak to Xi about US arms sales to the self-governing democracy claimed by China.

That would be a departure from historic US insistence that it will not consult Beijing on its support for the island, and one which will be closely watched by Taipei and US allies in the region.

China's controls on rare earth exports, AI rivalry and the countries' raucous trade relationship are also among the topics expected to be taken up by the two heads of state.

Both sides will be looking to come out of the summit with whatever wins they can, while also stabilising an often tense relationship between Beijing and Washington that has global implications.

Trump will also be hoping to leave with a firm date for a reciprocal visit by Xi to the United States later in 2026, to prove his rapport with his Chinese counterpart.

Bomb With 7-Hour Timer Found Near Pune Hospital, Removed By Disposal Squad

A bomb equipped with a seven-hour timer was found outside a hospital in the Kamdhenu Estate area of Pune's Hadapsar on Wednesday, causing panic in the vicinity.

The suspicious object was discovered near the hospital premises. Police immediately alerted the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and the fire brigade. Teams, including a dog squad, reached the spot and cordoned off the area.

BDDS personnel examined the object and shifted it to an open, secure location away from the hospital for further checks. Senior officers also visited the site as investigations began.

Preliminary findings indicate the device was a live bomb containing explosive material and a functional timer.

"A low-grade explosive IED was found in the city; investigation is underway on a war footing. The bomb was defused in an open field," said Pune City Police Commissioner Nitesh Kumar.

Crime Branch and local police are now working to determine how the bomb was placed there and who was responsible.

No casualties or injuries have been reported. Authorities said the situation is under control, and operations are ongoing to trace the origin of the device.
