Lionel Messi's father, Jorge Messi, is currently going through a health-related situation and is under medical supervision, recovering and progressing well, informed the football icon's family on Thursday. During his side's FIFA World Cup campaign opener for defending Argentina against Algeria on Wednesday, Messi was seen in tears after scoring, which he later said was because of "something unrelated to the game". "It was something totally unrelated to sport. I had some difficult, complicated days. I am grateful to the whole delegation, to all my teammates, because they were always by my side, as always, giving me a lot of strength," Messi said after the game. Messi's family has clarified that Messi's father is not in good health, but is "recovering and progressing well" under medical supervision.

A statement from the family, according to 433, read, "The Messi family informs that Jorge Messi is currently going through a health-related situation. At this time, he is under medical supervision, recovering and progressing favourably within the condition he is experiencing."

"In light of the reports, rumours, and speculation that have circulated in recent hours, the family wishes to express its deep discomfort with the lack of sensitivity, respect, and discretion with which some people have treated what is strictly a private family matter," the statement continued.

"The family also wishes to clarify that only his closest relatives have real and accurate information regarding Jorge's condition. Therefore, any version, statement, or information that does not come directly from the family and its official channels should not be considered valid or truthful," the statement added.

Messi's family asked everyone for "responsibility, prudence, and humanity".

"A person's health and the peace of mind of those around them should not be the subject of speculation or irresponsible media interest. We sincerely appreciate the expressions of affection, respect, and concern we have received, and we ask that Jorge's privacy, confidentiality, and intimacy--as well as that of his entire family--be respected throughout this process. Any relevant updates will be communicated in due course by the family and through the appropriate channels. Thank you for your understanding," said the statement cited by 433.

With his first-ever FIFA World Cup hat-trick on the day (June 16) when he had made his FIFA WC debut 20 years back, Messi tied with Miroslav Klose (16) for the joint-most goals in FIFA World Cup goals. He also earned his 200th cap for Argentina.

Argentina will now next play Austria on June 22 in Texas.

New Zealand was bowled out for 391 after resuming on 291-7, and Phillips was the last man out for an even 100 on a warm, sunny morning. The Black Caps would have thought 350 a bonus with their tail exposed and the new ball imminent.

Phillips had resumed on 49 and brought up 50 off the day's second delivery with a top edge over the wicketkeeper. Without Archer to duck at, Phillips punished the wayward balls of Sonny Baker and Josh Tongue.

Bethell's spin was effective after just five overs with the new ball.

Phillips passed his previous highest Test score of 87 against Bangladesh in 2023 and comfortably racked up his hundred off 133 balls with 18 boundaries, following two centuries each in one-day internationals and Twenty20s.

Veteran paparazzo Ramakant Munde shared inside details of how photographers accessed celebrities before paparazzi culture and social media began.

Recalling an unwritten rule from that era, Munde said they were told not to photograph Dimple Kapadia and Sunny Deol together. Dimple Kapadia and Sunny Deol were rumoured to be in a relationship, though they never acknowledged it publicly.

"Sometimes they would be together on a film set, at an event, or during a function. But they didn't like getting photographed together. Everyone in the media knew this," Ramakant Munde told Hindi Rush.

Munde recalled that instructions would come whenever the two were present at the same location.

"There was a message among photographers that if they were together, we shouldn't take pictures. Usually someone from their team would come and tell us, or there would be a signal indicating that photographs were not wanted," he said.

In an era before omnipresent paparazzi and social media, there was hardly anything about celebrities that remained hidden from the public.

Talking about the changing media landscape, Munde commented, "There wasn't that kind of demand. What sold in those days were beautiful photographs — good costumes, jewellery, makeup and glamorous looks. Publishers preferred aesthetically pleasing pictures."

"Today, people are interested in every aspect of a celebrity's personal life. But at that time, photographs of who was meeting whom didn't have the same value," he added.

Sunny Deol and Dimple Kapadia: Relationship rumours

Back in 2017, a viral video showed Dimple and Sunny holidaying in London; in the clip they were seen holding hands, which sparked chatter on X.

In 2023, Dimple Kapadia watched Gadar in theatres. She hid her long hair under a cap and posed for the paparazzi.

Defence Stocks Rally In Trade As India's Defence Production Touches All-Time High

Defence stocks rallied sharply on June 17, with broad-based gains across the sector as India's defence production reached an all-time high of Rs 1.78 lakh crore in the Financial Year (FY) 2025-26, marking a significant milestone in the country's push towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

Paras Defence emerged as the top gainer, surging 12.89%, followed by Astra Microwave Products, which advanced 7.72%, and MTAR Technologies, up 6.99%. Data Patterns gained 4.81%, while Bharat Dynamics rose 4.39%.

Among the public sector defence names, Garden Reach Shipbuilders climbed 3.67%, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) added 3.51%, and Cochin Shipyard gained 3.39%. Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders rose 2.43%, while Mishra Dhatu Nigam and DCX Systems advanced 2.14% and 1.84%, respectively. Bharat Electronics Ltd. (BEL) gained 1.58%, and IdeaForge Technology rose 1.29%. Bharat Forge was the laggard within the pack, up 0.46%.

The record output represents a 15.6% increase compared to the previous fiscal year, when defence production stood at Rs 1.54 lakh crore. It also reflects a remarkable 110% growth from FY 2020-21, when production was valued at Rs 84,643 crore. Compared to FY 2013-14, indigenous defence production has increased nearly fourfold from Rs 43,746 crore, said the Ministry of Defence.

Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and other public sector units contributed around 76% of the total defence production, while the private sector accounted for 24%.

The private sector's contribution reached an all-time high of approximately Rs 42,000 crore in FY 2025-26, rising from 22% in the previous fiscal year.

SRH Star Gets India A Test Call-Up Despite No Ranji Trophy Game In 6 Years

The Indian selectors have started looking at the next generation of spinners but Ajit Agarkar and his team have discovered a distinct lack of desired quality in wrist spinners who can be Kuldeep Yadav's understudy in the coming years. In white ball, there is Ravi Bishnoi who plays on and off for India in T20Is while Vipraj Nigam is a part of India A set-up in List A games. However there aren't too many on the horizon when it comes to red ball cricket. As a result, 26-year-old former India U-19 leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari has been fast-tracked into the India A team for the two 'Tests' against Sri Lanka A later this month.

But what has surprised many in the Indian cricketing circle is the fact that although Ansari took 21 wickets in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last season, he has last played a Ranji Trophy match back in 2020.

For the past six years, the various selection committees of Uttar Pradesh never found him good enough to add to his five Ranji Trophy caps.

In fact, Ansari's childhood coach Gopal Singh was surprised, but in a pleasant manner.

“I thought he would be in the India A white ball side as he took 21 wickets in Vijay Hazare Trophy. But I am happy they considered him for the red ball. Last time when he used to play Ranji Trophy back in 2020, he used to flight the ball and he still bowls a lethal googly,” Gopal told PTI.

“But due to demands of white ball cricket, he now has to bowl a bit quicker. But I believe that he has impressed everyone at the Indian Test team's nets in Mullanpur which led to a call-up,” Gopal added. A small piece of statistics will be good for people to understand why national selectors haven't had too many options to work upon.

Mayank Mishra, Siddharth Desai, Shahbaz Ahmed, Kumar Kartikeya, Arjun Sharma, Vishal Jayswal and Saurabh Kumar are seven slow left-arm orthodox bowlers who are among the top 10 wicket-takers during last Ranj Trophy season where J&K seamer Auqib Nabi ended with 60 wickets.

Strangely there was only one leg-break bowler in top-10 — Karnataka veteran Shreyas Gopal, who was third in the list with 48 scalps.

However Gopal, who would be 33 in some months, isn't in the radar of national selectors anymore which was evident when they picked a younger white ball spinner, who hasn't played red ball cricket for more than half a decade.

Between 11 to 20, there are two off-spinners -- 33-year-old Saransh Jain, who is with India A and domestic doyen Jalaj Saxena, who wasn't considered even during his prime.

There are two pace bowlers Mohammed Nidheesh of Kerala and Sunil Kumar of J&K with another six left-arm orthodox spinners have found their place — Sagar Udeshi, Shams Mulani, Amit Shukla, Nachiket Bhute, Parth Rekhade, Anukul Roy.

So, 13 out of 20 bowlers are left-arm spinners and the lone leg-break bowler is not even in contention.

Gopal's name was discussed for selection way back in 2017 when Kuldeep was a rookie left-arm wrist spinner, but it did not take much headway.

A former national selector, who understands the process, cited a few important reasons for this trend.

“How many state teams are playing frontline leg-spinners? With 5 mm grass cover, all state teams have three fast bowlers and two left-arm spinners who can bat.

“No domestic captain actually wants to punt on wrist spinners as it needs courage to persist with one even if they get hit for a few sixes,” he told PTI.

“The Second and an important aspect is IPL. In the IPL, you need restrictive options. More and more scouts are watching Ranji Trophy games and left-arm spinners are the need of the hour. You will have a Bishnoi but just do check how many red ball games he has played (11 in 7 years since senior state debut).

“How many games has Rahul Chahar played? 27 in 10 years? So, the selectors aren't wrong if they show a leap of faith in Ansari,” the former selector said.

Pak Spy Agency ISI-Backed Terror Network Busted In Delhi, 7 Arrested

Delhi Police have dismantled an international terrorist-crime syndicate with direct links to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), arresting seven operatives connected to the network of Pakistan-based gangster-turned-terrorist Shahzad Bhatti and his associate Ajmal Gujjar.

The arrests, carried out by the Special Cell's Eastern Range team, have prevented planned terrorist attacks in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), along with related activities involving the supply of illegal weapons and narcotics.

Police described the module as operating on instructions from Pakistan to conduct terrorist strikes, smuggle arms and drugs, and gather intelligence on potential targets. The syndicate smuggled weapons, ammunition and narcotics such as heroin from Pakistan into India through Punjab.

The consignments were then distributed to locations across Delhi-NCR. Officials said the timely operation had foiled several major plots by the network, which was actively preparing a significant attack in the capital region. Investigations showed that members of the module, directed by Shahzad Bhatti and Ajmal Gujjar, had conducted reconnaissance of crowded public areas, important establishments and sites linked to religious leaders in Delhi-NCR.

The accused took photographs and videos of these locations and sent them to handlers in Pakistan. Police stated that several religious leaders in the region were also targeted as part of the plan. The apparent aim was to create an atmosphere of fear, incite communal tension and generate widespread panic.

Acting on specific intelligence about the Pakistan-backed network, the team used technical surveillance, analysis of mobile phone data and ground-level information to map the syndicate before carrying out the arrests.

The seven men arrested are:

Anas alias Anas Tyagi, 26, resident of Loni, Ghaziabad. He faces three previous criminal cases and had been in regular contact with Ajmal Gujjar and Shahzad Bhatti in Pakistan since November 2025.

Mohit alias Yogi, 26, also from Loni, Ghaziabad. He was in direct contact with Ajmal Gujjar.

Deepak alias Deepak Agrola, resident of Techno City, Ghaziabad. He has 23 previous cases, including charges of murder, robbery, attempt to murder and provisions under the Gangsters Act.

Arif alias Pradhan, resident of Loni. He faces cases under the Arms Act and the NDPS Act.

Karanveer Singh, resident of Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab. He has a case registered under the NDPS Act.

Jatan, resident of Techno City. He faces cases related to attempt to murder.

Sabir, resident of Loni, Ghaziabad.

During the arrests, police recovered five sophisticated semi-automatic pistols, 41 live cartridges, seven mobile phones containing chats and voice notes linked to Shahzad Bhatti and Ajmal Gujjar, a Scorpio vehicle, and details of several bank accounts used to transfer proceeds from the sale of weapons and drugs.

The investigation indicated that Shahzad Bhatti and Ajmal Gujjar used social media platforms and encrypted messaging applications to identify and approach Indian youth. They sought to recruit them by offering money and the prospect of quick financial gains through criminal activities.

Recruits were then drawn into arms supply, reconnaissance work, drug smuggling and terrorist operations. The breakthrough came in May 2026 when the Special Cell received information that Shahzad Bhatti and Ajmal Gujjar were planning an attack in Delhi-NCR.

Mohit was arrested near the Bhagirath Water Treatment Plant in Yamuna Vihar. From him, officers recovered an illegal pistol, four live cartridges and a mobile phone. Examination of the device revealed communications with Ajmal Gujjar. During questioning, Mohit disclosed that he and his associates had been tasked with smuggling weapons and drugs.

Further probes revealed that weapons and drug consignments were delivered from Pakistan into Punjab using drones. Gang members, including Anas and Karanveer Singh, were sent to Punjab to receive and transport the material onward to Delhi-NCR. Interrogation also established that the network had carried out reconnaissance of religious leaders, public places and sensitive sites in Delhi-NCR on instructions from Shahzad Bhatti. Images and videos of these targets were transmitted to Pakistan.

Officials believe that without the intervention, the group could have executed a significant crime. Some of the accused had previously been involved in ordinary criminal activities involving illegal weapons used for intimidation.

They established contact with Ajmal Gujjar through social media, after which the group evolved into a terrorist network engaged in arms and drug smuggling. Arif, for example, purchased a Jigana pistol from Ajmal Gujjar for approximately ₹1 lakh through multiple UPI accounts. The network later expanded into smuggling heroin and chitta.

Investigations further showed that gangster Deepak Agrola continued to coordinate from inside prison using a mobile phone. He contacted Ajmal Gujjar through Anas and assisted in arranging arms shipments.

The Delhi Police Special Cell is continuing its search for other absconding accused, additional arms suppliers, drug networks and the Pakistan-based handlers.

On Monday, the film earned Rs 1.25 crore across 2,139 shows.

The film earned Rs 1.15 crore on Friday, Rs 1.85 crore on Saturday, and Rs 2.50 crore on Sunday, according to Sacnilk.

Filmmakers Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Anubhav Sinha showered praise on the film.

Rugby India Chief Rahul Bose Eyes 2032 Olympic Breakthrough for Women's Team

As the Rugby Premier League enters its second season, Rugby India president Rahul Bose believes the competition is already taking important strides. The addition of a women's league, a stronger international field and a growing ecosystem around the sport have, in his view, accelerated rugby's development in India. In a conversation with NDTV'S Rica Roy, Bose spoke about the league's expansion, the role of international exposure, the partnership with GMR Sports and his confidence that India can qualify for the Olympic rugby competition in the coming years.

Q: How will this edition of the Rugby Premier League be different from last year?

Rahul Bose: The biggest change is the addition of a women's league. In just our second year, we have two competitions instead of one, and we're proud of that because many leagues have taken five to 10 years to launch a women's edition.

A rugby match lasts only 20-22 minutes, so in the same 15-day window, we've been able to schedule five matches a day instead of three. That means two and a half hours of viewing every evening, which broadcasters JioHotstar and Star Sports are delighted with.

Another major difference is the women's field itself. We have players from 11 countries. Our Indian women are outstanding. When people see Indian players tackling opponents from Brazil, Fiji and Canada, they'll witness something powerful. In those few moments, you'll see a story of equity and empowerment.

Q: What kind of field have you assembled in the men's competition this year?

Rahul Bose: It's even stronger than last year. We have Luciano Gonzalez, one of the top players in the world, and Henry Hutchinson, who was the player of the tournament in the HSBC Sevens Series. The French are participating for the first time, along with players from Argentina, Spain, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and England. It's a truly world-class line-up.

Q: How many countries are represented across the men's and women's competitions?

Rahul Bose: Twenty countries in the men's league and 11 in the women's league. But the traditional powerhouses in rugby are really seven or eight nations, and most of them are represented.

Q: What do Indian players need to learn from teams like Fiji to improve their standing?

Rahul Bose: Rugby is extremely competitive. Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, France, Argentina and Spain are all closely matched. A lot depends on who performs on the day.

The answer is simple: you have to play more world-class rugby. On the international circuit, we mainly compete against the best teams in Asia. The RPL gives our players the chance to test themselves against some of the best players in the world.

Last year, after eight or nine matches, three of our franchise coaches told me that some of their most valuable players had been Indian boys. That says a lot about how quickly exposure can accelerate development.

Q: What else does Indian rugby need to become world-class?

Rahul Bose: Coaching has been a major focus. We've brought in Fijian legend Waisale Serevi, Ben Gollings, the highest points scorer in Sevens history, and Paco Hernandez from Spain. We've been fortunate with the quality of coaches available to us.

People always talk about grassroots, but we've been doing grassroots work for 25 years. Rugby is already present in 322 districts across India. In places like Nandurbar, Beed, Keonjhar and Sonipat, people know the sport.

Schools, clubs and communities are the key. The challenge is expanding into urban centres. Ironically, the easiest part - reaching cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru - is what we're doing last.

Q: Does rugby need support from the cricket ecosystem at this stage?

Rahul Bose: Not really. None of our sponsors come from cricket. HSBC has long been associated with rugby, and Capgemini is a legacy partner of World Rugby. There are more developments coming, which you'll hear about shortly.

GMR Sports are our league partners. They aren't investing as team owners. I initially approached them to take over the Delhi franchise. Within two days, they said they would rather partner with the league itself because they already own teams across several sports.

Q: How does the partnership with GMR work?

Rahul Bose: GMR handles marketing, sponsorship and operations. We manage everything rugby-related - the players, federations, grounds, officials and competition standards.

This tournament is sanctioned and supported by World Rugby. There are 82 parameters that have to be met before World Rugby gives its approval. We're operating at the highest professional standards.

Q: Are you concerned about competing for viewership with the FIFA World Cup?

Rahul Bose: Not really. Our matches are in prime time, from 7.30 pm to 10.30 pm.

The FIFA World Cup comes around once every four years, while we're an annual property. If you keep adjusting around global events, you'll never find your own space. One year it's the Olympics, another year it's the World Cup. You have to coexist.

The Sevens calendar ends in early June, which is why this is the ideal window for us. If the FIFA World Cup happens to be on at the same time, that's fine. Sports fans can enjoy both.

Q: What is the Olympic pathway for India's men's and women's teams?

Rahul Bose: Our women's team moved from 10th to sixth in Asia within a year. If we continue progressing, even gradually, I believe they can qualify for the 2032 Olympics.

For 85 years, hockey has been India's only team sport in the Olympics. I believe rugby can be the next. I'm not including cricket because its Olympic qualification system is different. Through the traditional pathway, I believe our women can make history in 2032.

As for the men's team, I believe 2036 is a realistic target.

Pak Board Launches Massive Crackdown on Players Skipping Domestic Cricket

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has warned the country's cricketers that they will not be handed central contracts if they do not play domestic events, as the board unveiled a radical formula for the annual payments, a news report said on Monday. The new central contract model for 2026 replaced the traditional A, B, C, D categories with five format-based tracks, which the Pakistan Cricket Board claimed was a “world-first” structure in cricket, according to a report in Telecom Asia Sport.

Pakistan's recent fall in Tests has prompted former players to suggest to the PCB that it make it mandatory for players to participate in domestic cricket, especially the first-class four-day matches, as it will help groom players for international challenges.

Pakistan finished ninth and last in the third cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC) and lags eighth in the fourth cycle after a humiliating 2-0 defeat in Bangladesh, followed by a defeat at the same margin to the same team in 2024.

Pakistan's performances in the International Cricket Council (ICC) events are also poor as they crashed out of the T20I World Cup 2024, ODI World Cup 2023, and the Champions Trophy 2025 in the first round.

Pakistan also failed to qualify for the semi-final of the T20I World Cup this year. “To lift our standards, we want all the top players to compete in domestic cricket, and those who do not feature in first-class events will not get the central contracts,” said Naqvi, according to the report in www.telecomasia.net.

The new formula is also backed by Pakistan's white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, who said impactful performances will now be given more weightage. “This is a data-driven formula, and it will give players with impactful performances their rightful value,” said Hesson.

The top format, named Track AB, will be for those who play Tests and ODIs, while Track A will be for dedicated Test-playing cricketers.

“Those who play Tests only will be given added incentives and permission to play overseas first-class cricket to strengthen red-ball development,” said Aqib Javed, the director of High Performance. “The new framework aims to protect Test cricket and bring more transparency and fairness to contract decisions.”

Similarly, Track BC will be for white-ball specialists (ODI & T20I) while Track C will be for T20I & Franchise specialists.

The players who undergo development at the High Performance academy will get a Track D contract.

Livano Comenencia: Know All About Curacao's 1st FIFA World Cup Goal-Scorer

Curacao, playing their first FIFA World Cup match and up against giants Germany, conjured a courageous act that will be spoken about in the days to come. By the sixth minute, Curacao were down 0-1, with Felix Nmecha slotting one home in style. What followed was a period of complete domination by the four-time winner. Curacao defended with their lives as Germany raided the Curacao box in hordes.

The reply came in the 21st minute as a counter-attack caught Germany's defence napping, and one of the youngest players of the squad - Livano Comenencia, all of 22 - forever entered the sporting folklore of the Dutch Caribbean island. Comenencia is now the first goal-scorer in a FIFA World Cup for Curacao.

Comenencia was born in the Netherlands and was a youth international for the Netherlands. He even played for Netherlands U18s. In October 2024, he first played for Curacao's senior team. He currently plays for Swiss Super League club Zurich in Switzerland. Earlier, he has played for Juventus Next Gen, the reserve team of Juventus, and Jong PSV.

On Sunday, the island nation of 150,000 people became the smallest country ever to compete at the FIFA World Cup.

Coach Dick Advocaat has done his best to keep his players focused and relaxed as they navigate this unprecedented experience.

"Just be yourself, and don't be nervous," defender Shurandy Sambo said Advocaat told them, just before the team left its Florida base camp for Houston. "Of course everybody is excited, but just be yourself, show yourself, because this is the biggest stage."

The Curacao players have worked hard to ensure they are prepared for their debut. Germany, making its 21st appearance in the World Cup, is a heavy favorite.

"We've watched a lot of clips of Germany, how they play, what they can do," Sambo said.

Advocaat said there is more pressure on teams like Germany that are considered favorites and that his team has "everything to win and nothing to lose."

He's confident that Curacao is ready for the challenge of facing Germany, which he referred to as a towering contender.

"We are a minor, very small country compared to Germany, and we're going to make life very difficult for them," he said. "We're going to be a very unpleasant team to play."

Curacao's squad is representing a country that rarely has a chance to have moments as big as this on international sports stages.

Due to its strong Dutch ties, Curacao is not recognized in the Olympics as its own nation, and despite its impressive per-capita production of professional baseball athletes, Curacao players represent the Netherlands at the World Baseball Classic.

India captain Shubman Gill etched his name into the record books during the first ODI against Afghanistan on Saturday, becoming the fastest Indian to reach 3,000 ODI runs. Gill achieved the feat in his 62nd innings for India, comfortably beating Shikhar Dhawan's previous record of doing it in 72 innings. Virat Kohli is third on that list, having done it in 75 innings. Overall, Gill became the second-quickest to 3,000 ODI runs, falling five innings short of South African great Hashim Amla (57).

Gill oozed class, anchoring India's chase of 195 by slamming an unbeaten 84 off 66 balls in the first ODI. In a game reduced to 25 overs per side, Gill timed his innings perfectly, setting the tone early on by reaching his half-century in just 37 balls.

India ultimately won by seven wickets, chasing down the target with 2.3 overs to spare.

Rain delayed the toss for more than four hours and reduced the match to 25 overs per side. India won with 13 balls to spare at 193-5 in reply to Afghanistan's 194 all out.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz's 102 off 51 balls went in vain, though he helped Afghanistan recover from 54-7.

Rolex Hikes Gold Watch Prices Second Time In A Row, But Luxury Buyers Stay Unfazed

Rolex increased the price of its gold watches by an average of 5% this month, adding an unusual second annual increase to its major markets, which include the United States, Hong Kong, and Britain, according to reports.

Despite a generally muted luxury goods market, there remains a robust demand for premium products, as evidenced by the increase, which comes after a somewhat larger increase in January that was neither worldwide nor gold-specific, reported Reuters, citing two luxury research platforms and dealers.

According to Mark Xu, head of marketing at the research platform WatchCharts, other top luxury brands have also upped their pricing. For example, Cartier, which is owned by Richemont, hiked the price of its gold watches by up to 10% last month. Citing rising gold prices and currency fluctuations, Richemont stated in its annual report that it has adopted gradual pricing hikes at its Jewellery Maisons, including Cartier.

The industry saw many price increases last year, which was unusual as well. However, this was due to US import duties, which are currently at 10% for Switzerland, the country with the largest watch industry in the world.

Unexpected Second Price Increase

According to Erik Boneta of Boneta Inc., a US-certified pre-owned watch dealer, the market was taken aback by Rolex's second raise this year: "No one saw it coming."

Despite the fact that more middle-class consumers are no longer spending money on luxury, industry analysts claim that the luxury watch market is still able to sell watches advertised as unique investment items to extremely wealthy clients.

According to WatchCharts, Rolex raised the average cost of its timepieces by 6.2% in January in Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK, and the US.

Driven by the artificial intelligence (AI) boom and rapid digital transformation, India's data centre value chain is projected to generate a potential order book of $280 billion by 2035, according to consulting firm PwC.

While direct investments to build core data centre facilities are estimated at $71.6 billion by 2035, the broader ecosystem offers a significantly larger opportunity.

India's installed capacity currently stands at approximately 1.6 GW and is expected to grow 8.5x to reach about 13.8 GW by 2035, the Indian arm of the global consulting firm said in a statement on Thursday.

The $280 billion potential order book spans multiple segments across the value chain. IT equipment, including chips, servers, and networking systems, will constitute the lion's share at 65-75 per cent of capital expenditure, translating to $180-210 billion, according to PwC India.

Electrical infrastructure and cooling systems are expected to generate order books of $18-26 billion and $15-20 billion, respectively.

The rising adoption of AI is fundamentally altering infrastructure requirements. Traditional air-cooled systems and thermal containments, which support workloads up to 12-18 kilowatts (kW), are proving insufficient, the statement added.

Hyperscale and enterprise AI workloads now demand direct liquid-to-chip cooling (up to 150 kW) and immersion-based cooling systems (over 150 kW), which are projected to capture the maximum share of future cooling infrastructure.

However, the sector faces risks related to its current procurement strategy. PwC noted a high dependence on imports for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) components, which are long-lead items exposed to global supply chain disruptions and geopolitical tensions. There is also a heavy reliance on global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for after-sales support and parts.

To mitigate these risks and capitalise on the opportunity, PwC suggested introducing a Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme specifically for data centre equipment manufacturing.

PwC also suggested establishing manufacturing clusters under the 'Make in India' programme, facilitating fast-track joint ventures between Indian companies and global OEMs and aggregating demand from the government and hyperscalers to provide predictable order books for manufacturers setting up facilities in the country.

Local transport operators experienced more than 50 per cent growth in ride demand, restaurants and cafes recorded over 33 per cent growth in footfall, while retail businesses witnessed more than 30 per cent higher footfall during the event.

The concert also acted as a catalyst for regional tourism, encouraging visitors to explore destinations beyond Guwahati, including Kaziranga National Park, Majuli Island, Kamakhya Temple and Sivasagar. In doing so, it reinforced the city's role as the principal gateway to the North-East and its diverse tourism circuits.

The report highlights the emergence of the North-East as one of India's fastest-growing live entertainment markets.
