Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted on Friday that reforms in all spheres are his government's commitment and that India continues to take several steps to ensure continued growth momentum.

Addressing the Economic Times World Leaders Forum, PM Modi also said India has political stability and continuity in its policies, and the world sees the country as a bright spot of growth and hope.

"India continues to take several steps to ensure continued growth momentum. India is pushing ahead with reforms across sectors and reforms are our commitment," he said.

The prime minister said the world has many concerns regarding growth as resources are getting weaponised, but India is being seen as a bright spot of growth.

He said the NDA government has a clear roadmap for reforms, with a strong focus on governance.

"Our government is rewarding higher production with incentives," he said.

PM Modi alleged that it was the policy of the previous regimes to keep people in scarcity, so that they beg before the government for even basic needs.

He said the licence raj of the previous governments used to add to the burden of unemployment, whereas his government's production-linked incentive model is creating opportunities.

"We are not just changing regulations, we are changing the entire policy of regulations. Our government believes that there should be no regulation for doing something that has not been explicitly prohibited under law," he said.

The prime minister said his government is bringing next-generation reforms at the policy level and implementing reforms at the governance level and for ease of living.

"We are moving from the 'prohibited-unless-permitted' approach to the 'permitted-unless-prohibited' model," he said.

PM Modi said India has moved away from the PLP (Production Linked Punishment) model of the previous governments to PLIs (Production Linked Incentives) now.

He said even small reforms in the Indian Railways, the Delhi Metro and the Namo Rapid Rail show that the country is changing with times.

The prime minister said earlier, no one could make India's map without permission even though foreign satellites could map India, but his government has changed this system.

He also said the government has decided that border infrastructure is India's strength and not weakness. "We have changed the picture of our border infrastructure," he said.

Modi said the world's cheapest data is available in India and the country is making the cheapest and best mobile phones.

'Gangnam Style' Has 6 Billion Views On YouTube. How Much Money Has It Made?

Remember 'Gangnam Style'? The K-pop song by South Korean artist PSY, released on July 15, 2012, became a worldwide phenomenon, powered by its wacky music video, trademark horse-riding dance, and addictive chorus. The video became a cultural sensation, inspiring thousands of imitations, parodies, and dance videos around the world. It also made YouTube history by becoming the first video on the platform to cross 1 billion views.

14 years later, Gangnam Style remains one of YouTube's most-watched music videos, with around 6 billion views. Its enormous audience has also raised questions about just how much money the video has generated for PSY and its rights holders.

When one user on X asked Grok to estimate the video's YouTube revenue, the AI chatbot said the exact lifetime figure was not publicly available. It pointed to Google's disclosure in 2013 that Gangnam Style had generated more than $8 million in advertising revenue when it had around 1.2 billion views. Based on current view counts and typical music-video advertising rates, Grok estimated that the rights holders could have earned tens of millions of dollars from advertising over the years.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's plan to shift to a new office has landed him in the middle of a raging political controversy, with the Opposition alleging irregularities in the tender process.

Vijay intends to shift the Chief Minister's Office from Fort St. George to Namakkal Kavingar Maaligai in Chennai to provide more workspace for his staff. According to reports, construction is already underway.

Recently, a Rs 5.5-crore tender was floated by the government for the shifting.

Levelling the first-ever corruption allegation against the three-month-old government, the Bharatiya Janata Party alleged that the tender had been released a month after construction commenced.

It has been only 100 days since the TVK government came to power, and already the government is under the scanner," said BJP leader CR Kesavan.

"Shifting his office is his personal choice. We can't interfere in it. Even we are happy in a way with the chief minister shifting his office, as that building was constructed by Kalaignar Karunanidhi. But an Indian newspaper report says there are irregularities in the tender, which was not floated online either. We seek clarification from the government. You speak about purity in tenders. But news reports say the tender has been invited after works began for the office," he said.

TVK Reacts

Tamil Nadu minister Aadhav Arjuna has refuted the allegations.

"The news reports are false," he said.

"The chief minister feels that just like him, everyone else who's working with him should also have a comfortable workspace. His officers and staff are now working in a space that's not even 100 sq ft. That's why we are planning a temporary shift of his office. Our chief minister is naturally down-to-earth and flexible...During campaigns, he'll even be okay with resting in a simple hotel or a van," he added.

He further said that former chief ministers M Karunanidhi and J Jayalalithaa wanted to establish a new secretariat but could not due to political circumstances.

"We have had the same building for over 100 years. The office hasn't changed in consonance with the change in administration. Hence, we need to update it," he added.

He assured that the tender process will be transparent.

"No benami companies will be used. We will ensure no leakage to the government's treasury," he added.

While he was defeated by Shi Yuqi in the final, he pulled off a brilliant win over Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the semi-final. It was a result that truly announced his arrival on the global stage.

He comes from the small town of Sanoor near Karkala in Karnataka and was introduced to badminton at the age of 8 by his father, who coached him in their backyard. The family later relocated to Bengaluru in order to provide proper training to Shetty and under the guidance of coaches at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, he honed his skills.

Shetty's breakthrough came in 2025 when he won the US Open title after beating Brian Yang in straight games. It was his maiden BWF World Tour title. He followed it up with wins over top-10 players like Li Shi Feng and Chi Yu Jen at the Asia Championships.

India Must Stop Seeking Foreign Validation: PM's Adviser Sanjeev Sanyal

As the tricolour rose across the country on Independence Day, the conversation around India's journey ended up, as always, in a debate. On one side, restless Gen Z people chasing start-ups and global opportunity. On the other, a louder, more insistent national debate about shedding the country's colonial hangover. Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council and a historian, believes these are not two separate conversations at all.

"The issues you have raised are actually not unconnected," Sanyal said.

"They are the same issue - a nation with decades of survival behind it, sitting on enormous unrealised potential, trying to find its footing in a world where the old certainties have certainly broken down," he added.

That uncertainty, he argued, isn't limited to the geopolitical flashpoints next door in Iran and the Gulf. It runs through everything -- artificial intelligence upending supply chains and entire industries, and a demographic bulge India will ride for the next 25 to 30 years, with a narrowing window to make the most of it before the clock runs out.

No Grand Plan, By Design

Sanyal's central argument is that there is no master plan, and there shouldn't be one. "Anybody who wants a grand plan, where we know exactly how things are going to play out. I'm afraid you can't do that," he said, pointing to how comprehensively COVID-19 upended every projection made in January 2020.

His prescription, instead, is what he called flexibility and optionality -- building a system resilient enough to absorb shocks, whichever way they come. He extended this logic to India's foreign policy, where the country sits simultaneously in the G20, the Quad, at G7 tables as an invitee, and within BRICS. The same principle, he said, drives India's expanding web of free-trade agreements.

On the numbers, Sanyal noted India is now the third-largest economy in the world by purchasing power parity, contributing close to 8 per cent of global output, and the fifth-largest in current dollar terms at roughly $4.2 trillion -- just behind Japan, and currently the fastest-growing major economy. But he was quick to temper the optimism: divide that economy by the world's largest population, and India remains, in per capita terms, a fairly poor country -- which is why, he said, safety nets have to be built even as the country tries to climb. Asked what single policy shift could unlock the scale of wealth creation India aspires to -- tracing the arc from the scarcity of the post-1947 decades, through the licence raj of the 1970s and 80s, to today's top-three global economy ambitions -- Sanyal was unequivocal that no such single lever exists.

The Many Faces Of Colonial Hangover

Where Sanyal turned most animated was on decolonisation -- a subject he has long argued extends well beyond textbooks, though he was clear that the battle is largely won. School textbooks up to Class 9, he said, have already shed the colonial and Marxist framing that dominated Indian education for decades, and he was directly involved in rewriting the economics portions.

But he flagged three areas where the hangover persists, often invisibly. The first is academia: Indian professors, he said, are effectively forced to publish in international journals -- specifically those on the ABDC list, an index issued by an Australian body -- to get promoted, regardless of the quality of work published in Indian journals. "We have consequently colonised ourselves," he said, "by perpetuating a system where we seek foreign validation."

The second is certification. Sanyal pointed out that Indian industry -- and even the Indian government itself -- routinely demands foreign certification for products and processes where India has never built its own equivalent systems, something even Thailand, he noted pointedly, has managed to do.

The third, and perhaps the most charged, is language. Sanyal objected to the framing of Indian languages as "vernacular" altogether, calling it a marker of the very colonisation being discussed. But his critique cut both ways -- he was equally unsparing about the absence of contemporary literary output in Indian languages. Reminding that Rabindranath Tagore was already a celebrated writer by the age of 40, Sanyal challenged: "Where is today's Tagore in Bengali? Where is today's Premchand in Hindi?" He argued Indian languages will only truly move forward when they generate new ideas and new literature -- not when they are simply preserved as inheritance. English, he said, remains a great language not because of Shakespeare, but because it has continuously produced great new writing ever since.

He did offer one note of optimism: Bollywood and popular culture, where gatekeeping is comparatively lighter, continue to produce fresh trends -- a sign, he suggested, of what might be possible elsewhere if Indian languages are treated as living systems rather than museum pieces.

Is Gen Z India's First Decolonised Generation?

Turning to Gen Z -- increasingly framed as unapologetic celebrants of Indian roots, from bhajan clubbing to reviving interest in Indian attire and history -- Sanyal was quick to push back on the label itself.

"I have difficulty with this term, Gen Z, as a catch-all," he said, arguing that every generation, including his own Gen X, contains people with wildly different worldviews, sometimes within the same family.

That said, he acknowledged the trend is real. He pointed to a growing movement to revive ancient Indian martial arts and traditional games, and a surge of interest in Indian history -- one he said he personally benefits from, since much of his own reading list now comes from younger readers. But he was careful not to overstate it into a grand narrative: Gen Z, like every generation before and after it, will simply "find their own way through the world," with some going on to do more for India's decolonisation than previous generations managed.

Rewriting The Freedom Struggle - And India's Forgotten Maritime Past

Sanyal reserved some of his sharpest criticism for how India's independence movement itself has been told. The dominant narrative, he argued, presents Indians as passive figures with "no agency" who ought to be grateful that successive invaders arrived to civilise them -- and frames the freedom struggle itself as almost entirely non-violent, built around Gandhi politely asking the British to leave.

"The reality is that the history of our freedom struggle was absolutely brutal," he said, pointing to the scale of armed resistance - executions, hangings, imprisonment in institutions like the Cellular Jail - culminating in events such as the naval mutiny. He was clear this isn't a rejection of everything from the colonial period - he said he can admire the Taj Mahal or enjoy an English breakfast without that extending to "celebrating the occupation of my country."

He extended the same critique to India's maritime history, calling the popular notion that Indians were historically fearful of the sea "completely bunkum." Citing evidence of Indian seafaring dating to the Bronze Age -- trade routes reaching Oman and Sumeria, and later voyages east to Indonesia and Vietnam -- he noted this history explains why the world's largest Hindu temple stands in Cambodia, not India, and why countries like Indonesia carry India's name in their own. None of this, he said, features meaningfully in textbooks or popular culture - though that, too, is beginning to change.

Looking Ahead To 2047

Asked what an India that had fully shed these inherited frameworks might look like by 2047 -- a century after independence -- Sanyal turned notably optimistic. The demographic dividend matters, he said, but the bigger shift is a new national confidence that didn't exist even a decade ago. Today, he said, it's normal for Indian multinationals to compete globally, for Indian startups to scale, and for the country to tell its own history in its own way "without anything to be defensive about."

"This alone is big progress," Sanyal said, adding that this shift in confidence is why he remains convinced the next two decades will see India take its rightful place in the world.

Day 1 of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka in Galle witnessed a scary moment as KL Rahul's shot struck Nishan Madushka on the helmet. "Can't Excuse": Ponting's Slams Australia Batters After Meltdown vs Bangladesh

"I still feel like they missed an opportunity in these couple of games to look at some younger talent that we've got in Australia. I know the Sheffield Shield numbers aren't outstanding for our young batters, but I think we might have to look a bit deeper than just what the numbers suggest.

“Go with a bit of gut-feel and pick on talent because what we've got in the current side now - and it has been for a couple of years - has not looked up to the mark of Test cricket level. It (change) is going to happen.

“They've got 21 Tests coming up until the end of the World Test Championship (WTC) - they're at home to New Zealand, they're away to South Africa, they're away to India. Inevitably they'll be going through 16-18 players in this next little run. So I think organically it will start to happen where guys will be coming in and out just to try and manage them through until the end of it," he noted.

Addressing whether a potential defeat to Bangladesh would force structural changes, Ponting stated, "You would like to think so. This group has been so tight. I don't know if they're scared of making change, or deep down they know that there might not be anything better that's waiting underneath.

“It's been at least 12 months where they have had the opportunity to make changes, especially with the batting group. They have a lot of work to do, there's a long way to go in this game, and right now I'm not sure what the odds suggest. I still think Australia should still be favourites even though yesterday went as badly as it did.

“They'll get a chance to bat on the wicket when it's at it's absolute best. That's when we'll see if these guys are actually up to it, because if they're not up to it in the second innings then maybe it is time to have a look at someone else."

According to reports, Firoz wants Anil and Nana to play two characters whose fun chemistry will remind viewers of Uday and Majnu. Interestingly, both actors are also interested in the project.

India's Injury Crisis Puts Gambhir Under Spotlight: "Coach, Captain Decided"

The Indian team is going through one of its worst injury crises in recent times. "I don't have an immediate answer to the root cause of so many injuries. It is important to see what kind of injuries these are. At high-level professional sport, injuries are common. Sai Sudharsan got hit by a ball, with Bumrah, it is a chronic injury because of being overused and fitness is not Sundar's forte, he is injury-prone. His fitness needs a lot of work. Management and monitoring is very important. Injuries are bound to happen and you cannot control it," added Badrinath.

Adding the GMP of Rs 127 to the upper price band of Rs 807 gives an implied listing price of Rs 937. This translates into an implied listing gain of 16.11% over the upper issue price.

The IPO has been subscribed 3.11 times on second day of bidding on Tuesday.

The company's latest IPO GMP stands at Rs 253 on Aug. 11. Adding the Rs 253 GMP to the upper price band of Rs 871 gives an implied listing price of Rs 1,124. This translates into an implied listing gain of 29.05% over the upper issue price.

That is what maybe the first-time voters and everyone decided to go for the change, because there is nothing else they see."

Vishal pointed out a particular moment from Vijay's 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election campaign that he believes played a key role in strengthening the actor-turned-politician's position as a prime candidate.

“His last-day speech before the closing of the campaign nailed it. He said, go tell your parents and your grandparents and every elder in your house, please tell them to vote for me once. That really created a massive impact. I've seen a judge come on record saying that he voted because his granddaughter told him to vote for TVK. There have been instances like that,” he recalled.

On the work front, Vishal is set to make his directorial debut in the upcoming film Magudam. It releases in theatres on August 14.

Former Indian batter and BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) head VVS Laxman revealed that he was offered the role of Team India head coach back in 2023, but could not take it up for personal reasons and decided to continue as the head of the CoE and contribute to its development as it got a new facility of its own in Bengaluru. Amid concerns over the recent spate of injuries, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia met Laxman on Sunday to review the rehabilitation and injury-management programme at the facility. Saikia also attended the press conference along with Laxman, BCCI president Mithun Manhas and other senior officials.

Speaking during the presser, he said, "The reason why I extended (as the head of CoE): In 2023, I was supposed to become the head coach. Because of personal reasons, I was not able to take that up. I went and spoke to Jay (Shah) twice. He understood my reasons. Because of what Jay and the BCCI have given me, the freedom to execute my vision, it continues with Devajit and other office-bearers."

"I extended for two years, and I committed to the BCCI that here I am not taking up the head coach position, but I will make sure that I establish the CoE, I establish the structure, the processes and the protocols, before I move on," he added.

In September 2024, the BCCI's Centre of Excellence was inaugurated by then BCCI secretary Jay Shah, replacing the old facility operating at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium under the name of the National Cricket Academy.

Spanning over 40 acres, this facility is designed to become the epicentre for nurturing cricketing talent and advancing sports science in India. The Centre of Excellence features three grounds and 86 pitches, including both indoor and outdoor areas, showcasing its capacity to provide comprehensive training facilities.

In late 2021, Laxman took over from Rahul Dravid as the head of the CoE, with the latter becoming the Team India head coach. Laxman has been the head of the facility since then and, during his tenure, the CoE expanded into a full-fledged facility of its own.

Pak Cricketers Return From Unsanctioned Zambia League, Face 2-Year PCB Ban

A group of former Pakistan cricketers have returned from Zambia after featuring in an unsanctioned Twenty20 league, where they reportedly failed to receive full payment and now face a two-year ban from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The players went to Lusaka in order to take part in the Asian Legends League, a tournament that was promoted last month and which included among its featured names former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez, wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal and all-rounder Sohail Tanvir. Although Ambati Rayudu from India was originally going to take part in the league, he withdrew from Zambia without playing after finding out that the tournament had not been sanctioned.

The Lusaka T20 League, which included teams like Asian Stars, Pakistan Panthers, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, was set to start on August 2.

A source close to the players stated that Hafeez, Akmal, Tanvir and Zahid Mahmood had asked for information regarding the tournament after finding out that it had not been sanctioned by the Zambia Cricket Union (ZCU).

The source said that players such as Hafeez, Akmal, Tanvir and Zahid Mahmood inquired about the league and, after finding out that it had not been sanctioned by the Zambia Cricket Union (ZCU), and that the ZCU had issued a statement making it clear that the league received no sanction, approval or endorsement, some players, including India's Ambati Rayudu, decided to leave without taking part.

It is reported that several international players and their support staff were left stranded in Lusaka as they attempted to sort out their unpaid travel arrangements, and this has also resulted in demands for "a joint investigation involving multiple cricket boards".

Imran Nazir, Taufeeq Umar, Yasir Shah, Hasan Raza, Rahat Ali, Mohammad Irfan, Yasir Butt, Ibrar Hussain and Rana Anwar were among the former Pakistan players who took part in some matches.

The tournament was suddenly halted as a result of the ZCU's intervention. The report also stated that the organisers had not been able to finalise a broadcast deal.

After noticing that former Pakistan players had taken part in the Asian Legends League, the PCB announced a two-year ban, as it was discovered that the players had not secured the necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the board.

A player acknowledged that it had been a mistake to take part in the tournament and said that the group had been misled by agents.

The player told Telecom Asia Network, on the condition of anonymity, that he had been misled by agents who had told him the league was approved by the ZCU and that he would receive a good amount of money. However, he suffered embarrassment as the hotel would not let him check into a room because of non-payment and he then faced further difficulties at the airport.

The player stated that the cricketers had returned without receiving the financial rewards they had hoped for and were now facing a serious punishment.

"The situation is a blow for all the players since they had gone there in order to earn some good money, which they haven't obtained, but what they have received instead is a severe punishment from the Pakistan Cricket Board," the player said.

Sources state that the affected players intend to approach Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the PCB, and ask for clemency on the grounds that cricket is still their main source of income and that a two-year ban could have serious financial repercussions.

Akmal has also publicly supported his teammates and asked the PCB to review the punishment.

Akmal stated on social media that players from other countries such as India, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan took part in the event and have not been banned, and that the PCB should reconsider this penalty since the players' livelihoods depend on cricket.

The controversy comes at a time when the International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed concern about the rapid increase in T20 franchise leagues worldwide. To supervise the development of T20 franchise cricket and ensure better coordination with the international cricket schedule, the ICC established a special Franchise Leagues Committee at its annual conference.

Tamim Iqbal, the former Bangladesh captain, has been named chairman of the committee.

Cupid Ltd. reported a sharp jump in its June-quarter earnings, with consolidated net profit surging nearly 200% year-on-year as stronger operating margin and a more than 2.6-fold increase in revenue boosted profitability.

The company's consolidated net profit rose to Rs 44.1 crore in the quarter ended June, compared with Rs 15 crore in the corresponding period last year, according to an exchange filing on Friday.

Revenue from operations surged to Rs 154.7 crore from Rs 59.8 crore, reflecting robust business momentum and strong execution during the quarter.

Cupid's June-quarter performance comes amid sustained demand across its business segments, with revenue increasing more than 2.5 times from the year-ago period. The pace of earnings growth exceeded revenue expansion, reflecting the benefits of scale and stronger margins.

Investors will closely watch the company's management commentary on order inflows, export demand, capacity utilisation and growth outlook for the rest of the financial year to assess whether the strong momentum can be sustained in the coming quarters.

TCS, Infosys, HCLTech Fall As Traders Cut F&O Positions In IT Stocks Ahead Of Expiry

Information technology stocks saw traders cut derivatives positions, with Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., HCL Technologies Ltd. and Coforge Ltd. among the counters showing declines in futures prices and open interest.

TCS September futures slipped 0.11% to Rs 2,466.70 as open interest declined 0.12%. HCLTech September futures fell 0.18% to Rs 1,366.90, accompanied by a 0.18% drop in open interest. Coforge August futures declined 0.89% to Rs 1,756.20, with open interest falling 0.89%, while its September contract dropped 0.79% and open interest declined 1.33%.

The positioning across these contracts points to traders reducing outstanding exposure in parts of the IT pack rather than adding positions as prices fall. Options activity in the two largest IT companies also showed contrasting moves: Infosys saw positions cut across several strikes, while TCS recorded fresh put additions below and around its prevailing futures price.

TCS Futures Slip, Options Action Builds Near Rs 2,500

TCS September futures traded Rs 2.70 lower at Rs 2,466.70, a decline of 0.11%. Open interest fell 0.12%.

While futures positions declined, the TCS options chain showed activity around the Rs 2,400 and Rs 2,500 strikes.

Put open interest increased by more than 70,000 contracts at Rs 2,400, the largest addition among the strikes displayed. Traders added around 43,000 put contracts at Rs 2,300 and more than 40,000 at Rs 2,500.

Call open interest, meanwhile, increased by more than 20,000 contracts at Rs 2,500.

The outstanding positions make Rs 2,500 a key strike in the supplied data. Call open interest there exceeded 18 lakh contracts, the highest among the strikes displayed. The strike sits less than Rs 35 above the September futures price.

Put open interest at Rs 2,400 stood above nine lakh contracts after the fresh additions.

Further away, call open interest at Rs 2,600 exceeded 10 lakh contracts, although traders cut around 30,000 call contracts at the strike.

Infosys Traders Unwind Positions Across Strikes

Infosys options showed traders cutting positions rather than adding them across several of the displayed strikes.

Put open interest at Rs 1,100 fell by roughly 88,000 contracts, the largest reduction shown. Traders also cut close to 49,000 put contracts at Rs 1,200 and around 23,000 at Rs 1,000.

Call open interest declined across several strikes as well.

The reductions came despite large outstanding positions around Rs 1,100 and Rs 1,200.

The Rs 1,100 strike had about 46 lakh put contracts and roughly 45 lakh call contracts. At Rs 1,200, call open interest stood at about 54 lakh contracts, the largest call concentration among the displayed strikes, against roughly 14 lakh put contracts.

The data show traders reducing some of those existing Infosys positions rather than making large additions at the strikes displayed.

HCLTech Positions Decline

HCLTech September futures also showed a reduction in outstanding positions.

The contract fell Rs 2.50 to Rs 1,366.90, or 0.18%. Open interest declined 0.18%.

The move placed HCLTech alongside TCS among the large IT stocks where both futures prices and outstanding positions declined.

Coforge Sees Bigger Reduction In Open Interest

Coforge recorded a larger percentage reduction in futures open interest.

Its August futures fell Rs 15.80, or 0.89%, to Rs 1,756.20 as open interest declined 0.89%.

The September contract traded at Rs 1,755, down Rs 13.90, or 0.79%. Open interest fell 1.33%.

The declines across both expiries show traders reducing outstanding Coforge futures positions alongside the fall in prices.

Across the IT contracts in the supplied data, the common thread was a reduction in positions in TCS, HCLTech and Coforge futures. The options market added another layer to that picture, with Infosys seeing unwinding across key strikes while TCS recorded fresh positioning around Rs 2,400 and Rs 2,500.

Paytm Block Deal: SAIF Partners, Elevation Capital To Offload Stake In Rs 2,000-Crore Shar

Shares of One97 Communications Ltd., the parent company of Paytm, are likely to remain in focus after early investor backers SAIF Partners and Elevation Capital decided to pare their holdings through a block deal worth around Rs 2,000 crore.

The development confirms an NDTV Profit newsbreak, as the channel had reported on July 24 about the upcoming stake sale via the block deal route.

According to sources, SAIF Partners and Elevation Capital will jointly sell 14.9 million shares, representing approximately 2.3% of Paytm's equity, through a block deal scheduled for August 4. The transaction is estimated to be worth around Rs 2,002 crore, making it one of the larger secondary share sales in the stock this year.

Morgan Stanley is acting as the banker to the deal, sources said.

Paytm Q1 Results

Paytm reported a 8.1% jump in its consolidated revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2026-27 to Rs 2,448 crore sequentially, compared to Rs 2,264 crore, according to an exchange filing from the company on Monday.

The firm's net profit saw a 20% increase to Rs 220 quarter-on-quarter from Rs 184 crore. Its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) increased by 54% to Rs 203, compared to the previous quarter's Rs 132 crore. The Ebitda margin expaned to 8.3% from 5.8% in the quarter prior.

The company has clocked a profit for the fifth straight quarter.

Rising above the competition, a man from the City of Joy devoured five plates of mutton biryani in only 45 minutes to claim the coveted 'The Biryani Man 2026' crown, leaving fellow contestants and spectators stunned by his feat.

According to a report by The Telegraph, the finale of the competition was organised by the city's famous Shiraz Golden Restaurant as a part of its 85th anniversary celebrations. Following a nationwide registration drive held from July 1 to July 21 across Shiraz outlets and digital platforms, the chosen 25 finalists competed for the coveted title. While the finalists were selected through a lucky draw, to qualify for scoring, they had to finish at least two full plates of biryanis.

Among the finalists, a man named Pramit Kumar Das emerged as the winner after finishing five full plates of mutton biryani in 45 minutes. As a winning gift, he received a lifetime free biryani card, entitling him to one complimentary plate of Shiraz's signature mutton biryani every week for life at any of the restaurant's outlets. The remaining 24 finalists received three-year Shiraz loyalty cards offering dining discounts across all outlets of the restaurant.

Speed eating is something many foodies are proud to show off. In another instance, a man from the UK named Nathan Davies claimed the title for the most fish fingers eaten in one minute. The video shared by Guinness World Records on Instagram showed the man devouring a bowl full of crispy fish fingers, eating multiple in one go.

At the end, he ended up eating a total of 15 fish fingers in 60 seconds, setting the record for the highest number of fish fingers eaten in under a minute.

Bumper Dividend: ABB India Declares Rs 90/Share Payout Even As Profit Stays Soft

ABB India Ltd. has declared a bumper special dividend of Rs 90 per share with face value of Rs 2 each, after posting a modest uptick in its net profit for the second quarter of the calendar year 2026.

"This is to inform you that the Board of Directors of the Company at its Meeting held on July 31, 2026, declared a special dividend of Rs.90/- per share (Rupees Ninety only) i.e.(4500%) on 21,19,08,375 equity shares of face value of Rs.2/- each fully paid up for the financial year 2026," the company stated in an exchange filing.

Further, ABB India has set Friday, August 7, 2026 as the record date to determine the eligible shareholders for the dividend payout. The dividend will be paid to the eligible shareholders on or before August 29, 2026, the company informed.

ABB India reported a 3% year-on-year rise in net profit to Rs 362 crore from Rs 352 crore for the second quarter of calendar year 2026.

Revenue increased 21% to Rs 3,559 crore from Rs 2,940 crore, while Ebitda rose 11.4% to Rs 447 crore from Rs 401 crore. The company's Ebitda margin narrowed to 12.6% from 13.6% a year earlier.

The stock has surged 40.9% year-to-date and 32.21% in the last 12 months.

P&G, Eris Lifesciences, Bajaj Housing Finance, Radico Khaitan, Equitas Small Finance Bank, P&G, and Vinati Organics were among the key stocks reviewed by Motilal Oswal after the Q1 FY27 earnings season, with the brokerage highlighting premiumisation-led growth, healthy loan growth, improving domestic formulations performance and margin resilience.

While Radico Khaitan continues to be a preferred pick with a Buy rating, Motilal Oswal remains selective on names such as Eris Lifesciences and Bajaj Housing Finance due to valuation concern.

For Bajaj Housing Finance, the brokerage noted robust operational momentum, with assets under management climbing 24% year-on-year to nearly Rs 1.5 trillion and disbursements rising 33%. Asset quality remained strong and credit costs stayed benign. However, margin pressure from the runoff of high-yield legacy loans continues to be a key monitorable. Motilal Oswal maintained its Neutral rating and Rs 95 target price, believing much of the medium-term growth opportunity is already reflected in valuations.

Sooryavanshi Handed Leadership Role, Named Vice-Captain In This Tournament

Indian cricket team young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was named vice-captain of East Zone for the 2026 Duleep Trophy. Wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan was appointed captain with the squad comprising of seasoned veterans like Mohammed Shami, Mukesh Kumar, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Shahbaz Ahmed. Sooryavanshi made his senior team debut during the series against England and although he did not have a good outing, he made up for it in the series against Zimbabwe where he slammed two half-centuries. India went on to win all three matches in the series.

Kishan enters the tournament after a strong performance in India's recent white-ball series against Zimbabwe. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter delivered several aggressive innings at the top of the order, giving India quick starts. His recent form and leadership experience made him the top choice to lead the East Zone side.

All eyes will be on 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who is rising quickly in Indian cricket after a breakthrough season. The young player recently stood out during India's series against Zimbabwe, showing impressive calm against international bowling while maintaining the strong form he has shown over the past year.

The batting unit also includes Sudip Kumar Gharami, Virat Singh, Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal, Subhranshu Senapati, Denish Das, and Shikhar Mohan. Kumar Kushagra will serve as another wicketkeeping option.

Shami brings valuable experience to the bowling attack as he returns to domestic cricket. He will be backed by Mukesh Kumar and Abhijit Sarkar, with Shahbaz Ahmed and Anukul Roy likely to play important all-round roles.

BCCI Decides To Not Renew 2 India Coaches' Contracts After England Series

Winds of change are sweeping through Indian cricket. After the tours of Ireland and England, where India lost two T20I series and an ODI series, the BCCI was expected to conduct a review. It has now been confirmed that the BCCI will not renew the contracts of assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T Dilip. The development was shared by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia. "Assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeshchate's two-year contract with Indian men's team ended on June 10. Fielding coach T Dilip, who was given a one-year extension after his original term ended, also had his contract ending on June 8," BCCI secretary Saikia told PTI in an exclusive interaction.

"The BCCI continued with the duo till the end of India's tour of United Kingdom. However, the BCCI is not giving them any extension. There is no question of accepting resignation as the contract has ended," the secretary cleared the air.

A few reports have claimed that Subhodeep Ghosh will be the new Indian fielding coach. However, Saikia said: "BCCI is in talks with two or three candidates to finalise the new fielding coach for the Indian men's team."

Assam's Ghosh, who has been in the system for last six to seven years since the time of Rahul Dravid at the NCA, is the favourite right now.

It must be mentioned that Ten Doeschate intended to leave as when he was brought on board on Gautam Gambhir's insistence, he was promised fielding coach's job but was given no specific role in last two years.

In case of Dilip, his extension for one year before the 2025 Test series in England was on insistence of a senior superstar but no one was happy with his performance. It would have been a miracle had he been given any further extension after poor show during the recent white ball tour of UK.
