Paul makes it unmistakably clear: the resurrection of Jesus Christ is not a footnote to the Christian faith — it is basis of the Christian faith. No resurrection means everything is pointless; faith is hollow, sin still has the last word. But Paul’s not trying to frighten anyone — he’s calling believers to the hope and glory of what they actually have. The resurrection is historically grounded, eyewitness-confirmed, and Scripturally foretold. It is the foundation of the Gospel.

In Romans 15 Paul reminds us that God’s plan has always included people from every nation, united in love together under Christ. As we listen to today’s talk, we’ll be thinking about how the gospel shapes the way we treat one another and how God fills his people with joy, peace, and hope as we trust in him.

We begin our new teaching series on Romans 12-16: A Family of Grace. Last year we worked through Romans 1-11, all about the gospel of grace, the good news that Jesus saves us entirely by grace, not by anything good we’ve done. The good news that grace unites even the most separate people of all, even Jews & non-Jews, into one family in Jesus. In Romans 12-16 we’ll see what it looks like to LIVE TOGETHER as a family of grace in our daily lives today.

When the hardest things in life come at us, we can feel shaken. But in Romans 5, we get a picture of the clear and certain hope that we have in Christ, anchored in our past justification and our future hope of glory. Philip helps us to see the bridge that we stand on, anchored between these two realities, where God holds us and grows us, even (or especially) when the hardest things in life come at us.
