We did it!!!

500 episodes of the podcast.  

It might not be a big deal to many of you but for me this is a huge milestone.  I never thought I would do 10 episodes.  It is wild to think about but this is a project that is bigger than almost anything else I have been a part of in my career.

So many hours of conversations with fantastic DPs from all over the world working on all sorts of projects.

It has been a lot of fun over the years and we have had some great guests on along the way.  So many cinematographers came on and shared their tips and secrets.  I tried to steal as much as I could and I hope  you did as well.

Hearing from listeners all around the world over the years on the value they have found in the episodes has been a real treat and I am glad the show managed to find such an appreciative audience.

A special thanks to all of the Patreon supporters who have made it possible to work on this week in and week out for over a decade.  

Everything that I wanted to accomplish in filmmaking when I started this show I somehow managed to achieve in and a large piece that made it all possible was the knowledge picked up in these conversations.  If I can have a career there is no doubt you listening can also make it happen.

On this week's podcast we re-visit our final interview episode from the first 500 episodes of the podcast and we sit down with Florian Hoffmeister BSC as he talks us through his work on the series Pachinko.

I loved the look that Florian was able to produce on the series and that is why we had him on.  He walks us through all the ins and outs and explains how something so large gets put together over months of planning and working together with the production team.

This time he sat down with cinematographer Oliver Millar as they discussed a wdie range of topics that, for the most part, are often ignored in the regular programming of this podcast.  

These episodes are less technical, less trying glean some useful lighting or camera information and more hearing what it is like to actually have a career in filmmaking.  What is it like to be away half the year, how do you balance that with relationships, with health, with your own state of mind.

I am a huge fan of Oliver's work and he is tremendously talented as a cinematographer so it was nice to hear him speak on the sacrifices (or lack there of) at his level.  

It is one thing to have a busy schedule and a completely different beast to have a successful career.

This week on the podcast we are re-visitng a chat with cinematographer Guillermo Garza from back in the day.  He was one of my favorite guests and someone I would definitely look up if I was a director looking to shoot something.
