After defeating the evil troll and returning the boy to his village the gang sees a strange sight in the sky. A wooden house attached to balloons and a giant flying serpent land near them and a strange figure comes out. His introduces himself as Clinker, a gnome court jester to King Snuffleupagus and a friend of Fennekin. They initially distrust him but he tells them he will bring them to The Crypt of Sinu the Red. They decide to go with him and spend a few days travelling in his flying house. Clinker lands them in a small village that is completely abandoned but has a massive graveyard, far bigger than the town itself. They find a large mausoleum and go inside to find steps that go down, down down. And at the bottom of the steps there is the skeleton of a dwarf.

Battered but not beaten by the storm, the party lands in Medwyn before reaching Keshai to restock and repair. Upon landing they are greeted by a group of women and children in very traditional dress. They are amazed at the sight of the party, having rarely met outsiders. It all seems to be going really well until an old codger shows up. He introduces himself as the village elder Krint and promptly tells them to get out. He denies them any supplies and tells them they can’t even keep the boat there. Thom tries to convince Krint that they are long lost brothers, which is (shockingly) unsuccessful. Harper then gets all nobility on everybody by promising to give them 500 GP, because he has no concept of money.

After determining that there are two people sleeping in Old Mrs. Hamhands apartment, Niles deftly picks the lock (despite Harper breathing down his neck). They burst in and proceed to fight Bercy Hamhands while Old Mrs. Hamhands jumps out the window. During the fight, Niles makes him way into the other room where he finds the sacks of gold Bercy stole. Much to the party’s dismay, he grabs the gold, also jumps out the window and escapes into the night. The party defeats Bercy and then wonders what the hell to do next.

The party arrives at Bowbreaker Bay and starts asking around about The Lost Island. A bartender tells them about a Githyanki with an Unspellable Japanesey Githyanki name and the party goes to talk to him. Reasonable talk all goes out the window when they burst into his house and immediately go off on a tangent about something else. Unspellable Japanesey Githyanki name is a frail old man and runs in terror from the maniacs invading his house.Junpei Iori fires off a Thunder Wave to stop him but forgets to declare non-lethal damage and straight up murders him in the street. It takes the party a considerate amount of time to realize that they just murdered someone in the street and maybe that’s not such a good thing.

However Thom and Blood Drinker have bonded heavily and he is reluctant to give it up. Things get dicey until Blood Drinker tells Thom they will find each other again. Thom eventually gives up the sword and Tum is officially made a Darkblade.

The party fights Xavier Thumble and many, many guards to get out of the vault. Blood Drinker tells Thom the Dragonborn that there is a switch on the stuffed dragon that will open acid pits in the floor. Opening the pits goes fairly well for them until both Tum and Junpei fall in the pits and take a lot of acid damage. At the end of the battle Junpei has a mental break and fights Thom for the rights to Xavier’s head. Junpei eventually gets the head and eats Xavier’s brains. This is less than ideal for the rest of the party.

After the Kraken fight the boat is approaching Caer when the sky splits wide open and Junpei is abducted by other Githyanki. The party shrugs, arrives in Caer and sells the body of the Kraken to Raphael the painter/fisherman. They then venture over to Xantac’s Magic Shop on the advice of Xantolin. Xantac turns out to be an elitest dick who kills puppies and makes Dog Sausage. Also he has really high prices. The party says their catchphrase “So we’re going to rob this bitch right?” and go back that night to rob the store. The party gets a number of really awesome magic items, including a Bag of Holding, Battle Crazed Greatsword, and Instant Campsite. But as they are about to leave, Xantac catches them red handed.

Ros informs the team of a sea monster in the area before realizing that they are significantly off course. Aludra offers to help by acting as lookout and Ros accuses her of sexism. Suddenly the team hears “WOOMF!” and the boat shakes so violently that Junpei and Aludra are thrown to the ground. A giant Kraken has grabbed the ship. Aludra is inspired by his “wise eyes.” Ros and the other crew retreat below decks. Everyone is dissapointed to find that the cannons on the Roll20 map don’t actually exist. Three tentacles on either side of the boat grip the vessel while two loom menacingly overhead near the exposed kraken’s head…

The party ventures into the woods and sets up camp. They set a watch and Junpei goes first since he is the most durable. Aludra is still in bear form and Tum is weirdly into this. They all rest and for some reason decide to go back to the holdfast they just escaped from. But there are way more zombie hulks this time Thom and Tum do an extremely roundabout way of scouting. Thom throws Tum into the air to see what he can see. They roll poorly but Tum manages to catch himself just in time for everybody to realize what a complicated idea this was. Tum does see a town in the distance and they decide to go there instead of the holdfast. However they run into a bunch of Giant Spiders on the way. After defeating a ton of spiders they find some loot on a dead guy in a spider cocoon. Almost everybody gets real armour (except for Junpei) or at the very least more than a headband to wear.

Synopsis from the Drunks and Dragons Wiki:

The party realizes that they only have vague memories of their life before the dungeon. They then discover that they each have a small cut behind an ear.They search for some loot and come up with a few simple objects and some sheet based clothing.

On the way out a zombified Handless McGee from the previous episode bursts through the door and desires the party’s brains. Aludra turns into a bear and freaks everybody the fuck out and Tum has a really hard time pronouncing “Sly Flourish.” The zombie goes down once but gets back up again until the party finally destroys it. Inside the zombie’s head they find a small disk with complicated mechanisms. They sneak into the yard but see there are more zombie hulks. Some well timed rolls let them stealth by and backflip over the fence to escape into the woods beyond.

As of the writing of this article, the podcast, Drunks and Dragons, has 154 episodes under its belt. With such a large back catalogue, one of the most common questions we get from new listeners is: with which episode should they start, the assumption being that there are too many episodes to ever catch up, and maybe it is ok to skip 70 or 80 of them.

The only good answer to this question is Episode 1. Skipping episodes means missing the origins of inside jokes, the building and layering of plot and story, and the world-building of our beloved Drunkeros. But answering with “Episode 1” can also turn away new listeners, daunted by such a huge time commitment.

Our solution is to abridge as much of our back catalogue as possible. We are taking our one to two hour episodes and boiling them down to 10 to 20 minutes. The priority is to keep the story intact, while not losing our favorite goofs. It turns out that when you condense the episodes down, they turn into concentrated madness…but in a good way. The abridged episodes will be a great way for new listeners to get caught up, and also a really fun trip down memory lane for the veteran slabbers!

We will release three abridged episodes every week on their own podcast feed until we go through the first 30 episodes. If things go well, and people like the little episodes, we will continue on and release as many as possible. So let us know what you think!
