Levine (pictured far right) recently spoke at the 8th Annual Real Estate Short Course, sponsored by the Illinois Real Estate Lawyers Association. The program was held March 13 – 14 at Harper College in Palatine, Illinois. Mr. Anaya was the program moderator. Mr. Schlade and Mr. Levine presented a real estate litigation update.

Chicago partner’s Samuel Levine and William J.  Anaya will participate in the first Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) Real Estate Law Mid-Year Update, planned for August 25 at the Hickory Ridge Marriott in Lisle. The Update is a focused survey of hot topics and the latest developments, providing concrete knowledge attorneys can put to use in their practice. Mr. Anaya is a co-presenter on the topic of Underground Storage Tanks while Mr. Levine will provide a mechanics liens and construction litigation update. IICLE partners with volunteer lawyers and judges to provide premiere continuing education and practice resources.

Chicago Partner John Ropiequet and Chicago Associate Ray Krauze recently published a supplement to the chapter entitled “Environmental Litigation: From Pollution to Takings, the Endangered Species Act, and Environmental Justice” in the IICLE Practice Handbook on Environmental Law in Illinois Corporate and Real Estate Transactions.  Chicago Partner William J. Anaya is the general editor of the Handbook.

Chicago Partner William J. Anaya was interviewed for an article in the April 1 edition of Inside Counsel entitled “Deep Horizon: One Year Later.” The article reviews the January report from the president’s National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling which paints a troubling picture of the missteps, oversights and institutional flaws that led to the disaster—an overarching culture of lax safety measures in the oil and gas industry, and management and regulatory failures that led to cut corners and a lack of vigilance and preparedness. To read the complete article, click here. InsideCounsel is the monthly magazine exclusively serving general counsel and other top in-house legal professionals. IICLE Real Estate Conference

Several Chicago partners recently participated in the 7th Annual IICLE Real Estate Short Course, held March 15-16 at the Hickory Ridge Marriott in Lisle. William Anaya served as the planning chairman and moderated the entire two-day program. He also spoke on “Ethical Considerations in Real Estate Transactions” and “Environmental Considerations for Commercial Real Estate Transactions.” Robert Taylor spoke on “Documenting a Commercial Real Estate Transaction” and Allan Goldberg spoke on “Illinois Condominium Law: Selling and Buying Condominium Units.” Hal Morris, Jenifer Caracciolo and Laura Lau Marinelli spoke on the “State of the Law Related to Real Estate Litigation.”

Chicago Partner William Anaya is the general editor of the book and author of a chapter entitled “Environmental Considerations in Commercial Real Estate Transactions,” Chicago Partner Joel Hurwitz is the author of the chapter entitled “Commercial Real Estate Transactions – The Mortgage Lender’s Perspective,” and Chicago Partners Sharilee Smentek and Thad Felton are co-authors of the chapter entitled “Real Estate Broker Law and Litigation.”

Chicago Partner William Anaya was a speaker at “Residential Real Estate Transactions: A Systematic Approach,” a program presented by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) on April 21 in Chicago.  Mr. Anaya spoke on a panel that discussed the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESA), the closing process, and issues to be aware of.

Concerns about sufficiency of water supplies are no longer limited to the western United States. An academic conference exploring these emerging water issues is especially timely as Chicago celebrates the Centennial of the Burnham Plan. Chicago Partner William J. Anaya will serve as a commentator at the November 20 Kratovil Conference. The conference is entitled “Water as a Resource: Impact on Real Estate Ownership, Development, and Land Use Policy.”
