Just how many different ways can you kill stuff in video games? Mark and Sebastian don’t have an answer to that but they sure know their favorite ways of doing it. Yes, this is another one of Bit For Byte’s infamous lists and this time it’s all about weapons. Swords, guns, gravity guns, bike chains, it’s all here. We also catch up on gaming in the form of the Enslaved and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow demos, Space Invader Infinity Gene for XBLA, ninja bear woes in Red Dead Redemption and a special Chinatown tale of a Super Street Fighter IV match between our very own Mark Robson and top ranked player Arturo Sanchez. Our trusty news segment focuses on Valve’s Team Fortress 2 in-game store, the Gears of War 3 delay and the Nintendo 3DS’ pricing among others.

The Tokyo Game Show went down about a month ago and Mark and Sebastian, along with returning guest Andrew Roberts (who shall soon be given the title of “Official B4B Gaming Event Consultant”), are here to discuss what transpired there. Nothing but news, news, news this time around. Nintendo’s usual absence from the show and the resulting lack of news from the gaming giant was keenly felt but that did not deter our brave heroes. We tackle DmC, Shadows of the Damned, Asura’s Wrath, The Last Guardian, Catherine, Valkyria Chronicles 3, Radiant Silvergun on XBLA, Kinect titles and a lot, lot more.

And once again, thank you Andrews Roberts of the New York Geekcast for coming to chat!

Ah, the woes of audio recording! Originally meant to be a two-punch review of both Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game and the indie darling Limbo, our newest episode fell victim to some recording hijinks and, halfway through our Limbo discussion, the Elders of Podcasting deemed that it was not to be and Sebastian’s part of the audio was suddenly cut off, rendering the segment unusable. And so, in the immortal words of Arnold, “it’s not ah twofer!” But our in-depth SPvsTW:TG review was salvaged and so was our news segment where we talk Metroid Metal, Arkham City, Bioshock Infinite and Catherine among others.

And don’t worry, our discourse over Limbo will be re-recorded and posted in an upcoming episode.

Though it seems like ages since the last episode, there hasn’t been a shortage of gaming done by our intrepid heroes and, in lieu of a more traditional review or list episode, Mark and Sebastian decide to sit back and talk about what’s been played over the past few weeks. There’s Alan Wake and Red Dead Redemption, Limbo and Final Fantasy XIII and, as is to be expected, more Super Street Figther IV and more Team Fortress 2. We also dive into EVO as well as Capcom’s flurry of announcements at the San Diego Comic Con among others. A lot of ground is covered here, folks.

We also upgraded(?) to a Mac Book Pro, yes, it’s very fancy. However, not all the recording kinks have been worked out yet, so apologies in advance for a slightly less than normal audio quality.

Bit For Byte finally tackles Capcom’s Super Street Fighter IV! Instead of focusing on match ups, we discuss the fighting game renaissance that had been ignited a year ago by the original Street Fighter IV. It’s been 10 years since Street Fighter III Third Strike, and now more than ever it seems is a fantastic time to be a fighting game fan. The presence of stronger internet has created a stronger community and made it easier than ever for people to find competition. We take a look at the build up to the game through the development blog, the impact of streamed tournaments, our trip to Guard Crush in Brooklyn, and everyone’s favorite: Ken’s Fierce Shoryuken.

In news, Sebastian races to find a Mac to play Team Fortress 2 on, Vanquish shows off some game play, Harmonix tries to reel us back in with a Rock Band 3, and Sony learns the wrong lesson.

This time the roster is actually closer to full. We even have a bit of a Cave Story in this episode!

Mark and Sebastian are super (thanks for asking) and continue their romance with Capcom, stop for a minute with Brawl, ponder the jump Bungie has made to Activision, and try to keep pace with Faith in Mirror’s Edge. Mirror’s Edge was really polarizing when it first hit the ground, being chastised for its unique controls, and trial and error acrobatics. Is this game really that new an idea that a new control scheme was necessary? Is trial and error too difficult for most of today’s audience? The game underperformed, but as time goes on, it seems to be held in a much stronger light.

We pick out our favorite licensed games and reminisce about days when they weren’t tied to movie release dates. Seeing a game attached to something we love was a dream come true, and not a transparent cash in. We lose all sense of vocabulary, as Capcom’s handling of the Marvel license reduces our adjectives to “awesome,” and we kind of nail down what really makes a licensed game sing.

What’s Travis Touchdown angry about!? We almost lost this episode, but here it is: Mark and Sebastian spill their guts on Suda51′s latest, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. The original was an unexpected gem on the Nintendo Wii, and found a loyal, cult following ready to over-analyze every bit of the absurd, stylish, punk rock game. Is the sequel continuing to boundaries, or is it just going through the motions?

In news, we talk about how great Valve and Steam are, and the attitude they have that earned them that reputation. We also look at the poor release of Sega’s Yakuza 3, Cave’s region free EspGaluda II, and dwell a bit on the idea of import games with their small but often dedicated overseas audiences.

Comfort food games are ones we keep returning to, when we just want something familiar. Mark and Sebastian list their 5. Okay, Sebastian cheats a bit with a worthy honorable mention. These are the games that feel like a warm blanket when coming in from the snow. We did this episode in an effort to let listeners get a perspective on our gaming history, but also how Bit For Byte came to be.

The news segment is kicked off this episode too! While we aren’t breaking any news, we still get excited or worked up for titles coming down the line. This time, we weigh in on Portal 2, Super Street Fighter IV, and express our concern for Metroid: Other M.
