After several amazing episodes this season episode 7 was a bit of a letdown. Not in the sense that it was a waste of an hour or what have you, dear listeners. Every season needs an episode that feels like its only job to prepare the audience for the finale, and The Bear and the Maiden Fair set us up nicely. Yes, positivity is needed after a meandering George R.R. Martin penned episode that focused on the many relationships of Westeros. Also, super awesome dragons.

This week Game of Thrones decided to take a relaxing break from all the dragon city burning, hand chopping madness from the previous episodes. Instead they focused on the darker themes like “Your life will never get better, Sansa.” And “There are no happy endings, everyone.” While The Climb was one of the more difficult episodes to watch the Cast of Thrones gang tried to bring some levity and hopefully make a few smiles along the way.

Clash of Kings Book Club: Arya VII - Catelyn III

On this week’s ultra-serious episode of Cast of Thrones we cover two depressing chapters in A Clash of Kings. The realm weeps for the tragedies inflicted upon its citizens. Arya Stark is in the bowels of darkness as she attempts to find her place within the blackened walls of Harrenhal. As a nobody that is mixed with high lords and knights, Arya is able to scurry about the castle like a mouse, collecting bits of information. But, is all of this information worth the mental scarring that it brings? Catelyn forsakes her bonds of motherhood and daughterhood to attempt to bring peace between the Baratheon brothers before more blood is shed in this war. Unfortunately, she is not successful and feels like a mother scolding troublesome toddlers. This foolishness will cost Westeros thousands of lives.

In this adventure, our heroes discover that the secret to happiness was inside themselves the whole time. In the book however, Theon gets to second base (depending on the league you're playing in) and then gets the sickest of burns. Meanwhile in kings landing, Tyrion is up to his old tricks again. Clash of Kings Book Club: Arya IV - Tyrion III

After a few slower paced chapters George R. R. Martin decides to throw in some intense battles. Arya fights with her new Night’s Watch friends against some evil-intentioned Lannister troops. Meanwhile, Tyrion engages in a more behind-the-scenes battle of wits when the small council attempts to fight against Stannis’ propaganda. I think I prefer the story with Patchface for many obvious reasons.

Y’all know the drill. iTunes has a bomb strapped underneath our podcast RV and if we do not get a certain amount of reviews a week we will explode. We have been trying to get it removed but those fat cats at Pep Boys keep telling us that there is no bomb and “You need to leave before we call the cops” but we know better. So help keep our RV un-exploded by dropping some kind words of review today!

Book Club: The Sworn Sword

Westeros has suffered a terrible plague and is currently in a drought so tensions have been mounting between Ser Eustace and Lady Rohanne. It is sort of like Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing.

Hey all you crime stoppers, we have a murderer loose! Ser Jaime escaped from King Robb’s camp, some say with the help of Catelyn Stark and Brienne of Tarth! Jon Snow is going to need all our help escaping from the Lord of Bones beyond the wall, but maybe Cadet Crime Stoppers Grenn, Samwell, and Dolorous Edd’s secret package of dragon glass will help solve that mystery! Hark! More murder is afoot in Harrenhal, but it is the good type of murder after Arya gives her last name to Jaqen H’ghar, a girl used her noggin! But will that be enough to escape the treacherous black castle? Congratulations to Senior Detective Maester Luwin who solved the “why are that boy's burned legs so large?” mystery and found Bran and Rickon very much alive and unburnt! Dany still hasn’t found her dragons, despite all of the flyers she put up.

Game of Thrones S2E7: A Man without Honor

On a very special Mother’s Day episode of Game of Thrones we are shown many aspects of love. Since this is a dark world of death and pain, the love we see isn’t the type Hallmark wants us to buy into, no sir! Ygritte wants to show Jon Snow a very physical form of love that eventually gets Jon so sex addled that he makes some mistakes. Arya’s love of mutton clouds her judgment to such an extent that Lord Tywin gets mighty suspicious. Cersei schools Sansa on why love is terrible just before she mentions to Tyrion that love made Joffrey evil. Dany loves her dragons so much that she may be walking right into a trap. Jamie Lannister loves making fun of both dead Ned and Brienne. Lastly, dear readers, Theon shows us what the love of power can bring – charred Stark Children. He is somehow even more terrible. I hate him so much.

Game of Thrones S2E6: The Old Gods and the New

Hello, and may the Seven watch over you! In this particularly brutal episode of Game of Thrones we learn a little bit about poor decision-making. Theon gets into a tight spot when he is forced to kick a man’s head off. Jon Snow also holds someone’s fate in his hands, but does not end up kicking anyone’s head off. Arya has to make a snap decision to choose her second of three deaths due to some poor decisions, and Joffrey pulls a “Joffrey," inciting a riot in King’s Landing that goes horribly. Robb hasn’t made any bad decisions yet, but I got my eyes on him. Dany, on the other hand, chooses to rely on dreams as opposed to logic and finds her dragons stolen.

Strange times indeed, what with Catelyn Stark and Brienne of Tarth joining forces and the Night’s Watch ranging beyond the wall hunting for wights. Phooey! Even King's Landing speaks of a demon monkey, but I bet that is just the fools talking about Tyrion Lannister and his magic fire, but you didn’t hear that from me! Qarth reports sightings of dragons, but you can’t trust no one from Essos. Besides, we have our own ghosts here in Harrenhal, what with the Tickler dying like he did. Life sure is peculiar as of late.

It is with the upmost excitement and glee that I welcome you back to Cast of Thrones: The Game of Thrones Podcast. We were never truly gone, but now that the show has started back up we will ride our flaming Diredonkeys into your ears doing what we do best – discussing this week's episode of Game of Thrones.

This was a wonderful whirlwind of a podcast. So much happened that I am not too sure where to begin. We got to check in with all of our pals to make sure everything was going A-O.K. Joffrey is still being a little stinker but fortunately Sansa has learned to deal with him. Tyrion has taken his rightful place as acting Hand of the King for his father, Tywin Lannister, but I am worried that Cersei will not be pleased. The Starks are up to their old hijinks what with the war happening and all. We also get to meet the most serious Baratheon ever to grace this good Westeros. Not to be outdone Dany tries to feed a dragon! It is so crazy.

Each week we will go through about eighty pages of Game of Thrones and provide amazing insights as well as a few jokes. This week we read from the Prologue and finished with Arya’s first chapter. It was a great time!

We also will be broadcasting each of these episodes live! That means you can affect what we are talking about on the fly. In this FINAL “A Dance with Dragons” review episode we discuss “A Dance with Dragons” with great zeal and aplomb. I just know you will like it, unless you haven’t read the book yet. We can’t really discuss whom we talked about since it would be a spoiler to mention that they are alive, but there were direwolves! I am pretty sure that’s not a spoiler…

Welcome to part 2 of our lengthy, yet super entertaining, discussion of “A Dance with Dragons.” I am pretty sure none of us cried this episode, but it was close. If you haven’t read the books be sure to listen to the first “non-spoiler” section where we grill Nick and Mike about facts from the series! I think at least three of us enjoyed that section (we are trying to be nicer to them, but it is just so hard!)

If you have any friends that are into the book series be sure to let them know that your Cast of Thrones cast wants to fill their ears with knowledge and Game of Thrones based humor! We really get into the story and talk about chopping “things” off. We even mention some things we didn’t like about the book, but mostly just excitedly talked about things being either 1) Salty 2) Dusky.

We try and make some sense of all of the names and places and past events being thrown around, but honestly, it was a bit tough. From an awesome Fan RD explaining the Ned/Eddard situation-

I don't know if this has been covered by your podcasts yet. If it is, then forget this message.

My understanding of the Ned/Eddard connection is the following:

We know in English when to use "a" vs. "an": A book. An apple.

I believe that at one point, "my" and "mine" had a similar usage: My father. My mother. Mine uncle. Mine aunt. Mine host. (Lots of references in Shakespeare and Chaucer.)

Somehow, "mine" was replaced by "my", with some words retaining the "n" sound or dropping it, depending on whether you misunderstood where the phrase was divided.

So, "nuncle" was also said. And we know that Asha Greyjoy and Jaime used "nuncle" in the series to refer to their favorite uncles.

For terms of endearment, Mine Edward and Mine Ann became "Ned" and "Nan", respectively.

Bonus Episode 2: Season 1 Recap

After a short, but painful break the Cast has gotten back together to discuss the season as a whole. This a much more “free-form” episode since the season was way long, seriously, at least 10 episodes. We discussed the characters that are near and dear to our hearts, seeing if maybe they have changed as much as the show has changed us. There were a few tears, zero laughs and more inappropriate google-ing than you can shake a dire-donkey at.

We are going to try and keep the Cast of Thrones fever raging hot during Game of Thrones down time. Let us know what you would like to hear in the coming months so that we can fill that Tyrion shaped hole in your heart.
