The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana is free the first Sunday of every month, thanks to a grant from Target.

That includes today, Oct. 7, 2012.

This time it’s an Italian Mediterranean themed event

And I strongly suggest you get there early, they limit admission if the museum gets too crowded.

This is part of a special series they’re running that provides monthly discounts to residents of various O.C. cities.

You must show ID or a utility bill when you arrive to prove that you actually live in the discounted areas.

An important message from your Deals Diva

Dear bargain hunters,

As you may be aware, the Orange County Register was recently sold to new owners who are spending a great deal of time and money improving the quality of our print newspaper.

Already, they’ve added a daily business section, hired a new business editor, hired an award-winning fulltime restaurant reviewer and numerous other changes that are going to make our paper even better than it was before.

As a result, they have decided that most of us should devote our time to the print newspaper, and either reduce or eliminate the effort we are making to work on blogs like this one.

Over the last three years, I feel like many of you have become my friends and colleagues in the continual hunt to save money. Thank you for making me feel like part of your family.

Some of you may know that I’m already writing a Sunday deals column each Sunday for the local section of the Register. I will continue to write that. However, I will not be continuing to update this blog. (frowny face here)

I will keep posting deals on my Deals Diva Facebook page, just because I love you, so stay with me on there and let’s continue to have some fun.

Meanwhile, I have also been made the full time columnist for the Register’s Life section, so not only wil you see my Deals column on Sundays, but also Frumpy Mom on Mondays and another column I’m writing for the Saturday home and garden section that will hopefully amuse you and give you tips about deals, too.

The newspaper industry is evolving as fast as the technology that brings it to you, so we’re all in a constant state of change now. Let’s see what the future holds. I have no intention of going anywhere–or of halting my constant search for deals!

It’s been a fun ride and I hope you stay along with me for the next twist and turn! I have become very attached to all of you.

City residents can get into the mission every Wednesday and pay 2-for-1 for tickets, so they can bring a friend for free.

Or, hey, make your friend pay and you get in for free.

The mission is an interesting place for history buffs, or people who just like beautiful buildings and gardens.

Get Jamba Juice for only $1

We’ve been doing this every afternoon. My kids love Jamba Juice but I can’t afford to make it a regular part of our lives.

Right now, Jamba Juice is running a weekday happy hour special Monday through Friday, where you can get a 16 oz. smoothie for only $1 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

This is good until Sept. 28, weekdays only. I’m hoping they’ll extend it, because that’s only small fraction of the usual price.

Larger smoothies are also discounted. Yum!

This deal is good at participating Jamba Juice locations only. Orange County is participating.

Limit one per person per visit, and it’s not good at Downtown Disney, Safeway, Vons or Pavilions locations.

You don’t need a coupon for this offer, so enjoy.

The annual “Talk Like a Pirate Day” is always big around Orange Coast College, which has a pirate for a mascot, but now it will be big with doughnut lovers too.

This year, lots of sources are reporting that Krispy Kreme will give a free Original Glazed doughnut if you walk into participating locations talking like a pirate on the big day, this year today, Wed. Sept. 19, 2012.

Avast, ye matey. Head on over.

And, if you wear pirate gear or an eye patch, you get a dozen doughnuts. No weapons please.

I have not verified this with Krispy Kreme yet, by the way, but it’s being reported by numerous sources. So get your pirate gear ready if you need to gain some weight.
