Want to get a Fandango movie ticket for free? Here’s how to do it.

If you haven’t used it, Fandango.com is a great way to buy your movie tickets online in advance, so you don’t get to the theater and find out they’re sold out.

If you sign up with any of the Fandango movie partners, they’ll give you a free ticket.

Netflix is one of the partners, so if you’ve been meaning to join anyway, this is a good chance. New members only. Vistaprint is also on this list–you can get free business cards from them if you just pay shipping and handling.

I did this: I signed up for a free seven-day trial membership in freecreditscore.com to get a free ticket, then I immediately called them up and cancelled my membership. I didn’t feel badly about it either because they’ve been the subject of many complaints about deceptive marketing.

Now, Fandango has added a disclaimer on these offers saying that, if you cancel, they have the right to cancel your free product. So take that into account. I might still do it but get my movie voucher and buy a ticket immediately, before I cancelled the membership.

I enjoyed my free ticket to see the latest Harry Potter movie with my daughter!

If you join the Fashion Rewards Club at Nordstrom, you get to shop their sales early, and can earn points toward freebies and discounts.

And, depending on how much you spend at Nordstrom, you can also be eligible for free alterations for Nordstrom purchases, free shipping of in-store purchases and free concierge service. That’s a cool deal if you’re a loyal customer.

If you join between now and July 11, 2012, you will also be able to shop their summer anniversary sale before anyone else.

Also, note that Nordstrom.com online offers free shipping and free returns on “selected items.”

If you would like your child to have the fun and health benefits of playing American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) soccer but you can’t afford to pay the team fees, you can apply for a scholarship from AYSO.

Teams are being formed for the fall, so apply now. They have been accepting applications since April. If you already paid your child’s fees for the fall, you can get a refund if you’re accepted for a playership.

Playerships will pay 80 percent of the child’s registration fee.

You need to fill out an application, state your family’s income and whether or not your child is eligible for free school lunches. Also which region your child will play in, what the fees are for the season and how much, if any, of the fees you can pay. There’s also a place for you to describe why you need the money.

You can mail, email or fax the form back to AYSO headquarters in Torrance.

If you’re uninsured, take a look at this prescription discount card available to everyone through the United Way and the nonprofit FamilyWize organization.

You can download and print this card, which can save you 30 percent or more at 61,000 pharmacies. This includes national chains such as Rite Aid, CVS, Walmart, Target, Kmart, Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway, Costco, Sam’s Club and more.

Also, on the website, you can find a pharmacy price lookup to comparison shop for prices.

How about a free Friday night movie tonight at the Great Park in Irvine?

This is the conclusion of the “Food for Thought” film series.

What: Urban Roots, a film that showcases how urban farming has been embraced in Detroit. From the website: The film shows dedicated Detroiters working tirelessly to fulfill their vision for locally-grown, sustainably-farmed food, setting an example for community engagement as a solution to the problems posed by a collapsing local industry. Following the inspiring stories of several agricultural programs, Urban Roots shows that the people tilling the soil and picking the harvest have fantastic stories to tell. 93 min

Get a free IKEA big blue bag today

IKEA is giving away its iconic blue shopping bags today (Thursday, May 24, 2012) in various locations around the U.S., as part of an upcoming summer promotion. The bags are not being given away at the stores, so check your location.

The mammoth home store chain says it will give away 35,000 bags nationwide. Here in OC, they’re giving them away at the Huntington Beach pier.

I actually have one of these bags. No, I didn’t steal it, but I bought it at a thrift shop, and I’ll tell you they come in handy.

Made out of the kind of heavy-duty plastic you usually see on tarps, you could carry a small buffalo in one and it probably could only be dented by a nuclear missile.

If you want a bag, I’d stop by if you really want one badly since I don’t know if they’ll run out.

Got a complaint about a product or business? Want to look one up before you buy? Check out ScamBook.com, where people can file complaints online.

I just stumbled across this when I was looking up BeyondDiet.com, a program I was considering paying $47 for a “lifetime nutritional plan.”

The marketing was persuasive, but after I read all the complaints on ScamBook.com, about overcharges, misleading charges and products never delivered, I decided…maybe not.

There’s a Scambook.com page where you can browse complaints by company, or you can file your own complaint for misleading advertising or other problem.

And here’s a list of the companies that generated the most ScamBook.com complaints as of May 2, 2012.

Note that NoMoreRack.com, an online discount fashion broker, was on the list of most complaints. Check out the entire list.

According to their online information, this website was launched in May 2011. I’ll definitely be back to check out more.
