Summer, sun. Summertime!…
High heels, plunging necklines, bare backs. A purse slung carelessly over the arm, a giant turquoise ring on one finger. A necklace of woven string with a big lily circle. A bracelet resembling a CD that’s bent and cut in half. Eccentric, very sexy. Noémi Gera.

She loves reds and violets. She laughs loudly. She needs almost two hours for her morning make-up. Summer, sun. Summertime!…

Comfortable shoes, pants, shirt. Your favorite muted browns, yellows and greens. Collected and focused when at work. Ágnes Havrán and Ildikó Göntér.

They are graduates of the MOME, Moholy-Nagy University of Craft and Design, in Budapest. They have never worked together before.

Noémi Gera makes jewelry out of paper, aluminum, ribbon, furs, and synthetic materials. Sometimes out of silver. She takes ‘usual’ materials and makes unusual objects. Astonishingly beautiful.

Ágnes Havrán designs purses. Combining colored leather with synthetic materials. Every purse is one-of-a-kind.

Refined jewelry. And classic feminine purses. How to display them side by side?

Ildikó Göntér, a ceramics artist and designer, links these seemingly disparate worlds. Using the ceramic stones and sand-colored clothes-hangers she designs and produces, she creates original exhibition designs. She sets the necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings on small plates of glass, protruding from cut stones. The purses hang on the clothes hangers. This builds a space in which the stones and the hangers are also the subject of the exhibition – as much as Noemi’s necklaces or Agnes’s purses.

“The most important thing in our work is imagination!” Noémi Gera, Ildikó Göntér and Ágnes Havrán all agree.

Ágnes Havrán
Graduated in the Packaging and Typography Design at Moholy-Nagy University of Craft and Design in Budapest, 2005.

She works in applied graphic and is a packaging designer. She also designs unique purses and bags, and makes objects from recycled paper.

Ildikó Göntér
Graduated from the Silicate Faculty at the Moholy-Nagy University of Craft and Design in Budapest, 2005.

ERASMUS Scholarship at the Industrial Design Faculty in Superiore Per Le Industrie Artististiche, Roma, 1999-2000; Kozma Lajos Scholarship, 2002-2006.

MOME’s Rector prize for the “Basin for Medical Staff” diploma project.

Vadim Kibardin designed clocks where all unnecessary part are removed to get simple yet functional time piece. Designers description says: Each figure has self-contained power supply and independent control, it can be fixed to any surface autonomously. A light sensor will switch the clock to an invert mode: the figures are white in the dark time of day and black at daytime.

Here for your attention CD/DVD player is made in the form of hexagon and surface from black glossy plastic which imitates the surface of vynil disk. On the butt ends of case there are the light-emitting diodes illuminating from beneath, creating the halo of light round a record player, adding the visual outlines of music in the dark room.

Down there are touchscreen control buttons.

Even a simple operation of CD setting is a pleasure, 2 glass flaps are hiding inside the case.

While playing the light from the LEDs, placed around, falls on the disc.

All functionality is easily understandable and showed on a display, which helps not to think about controls.

Player can be hanging up on the wall, as well as placed on the table or shelf. Wherever you set this record player, everywhere it will be eye-catching with its unique original appearance and will surprise your guests.

Designcollector has extensive photo report on Urals State University of Architecture and Arts Degree Show 2009 for BAs in Industrial and Product Design. It shows high creativity of ID students from this Yekaterinburg (Russia) based academy. Look at designcollector’s flickr set.

Young Croatian design student Victor Matic created chair Zipit, which is made from simple wood components of legs and base and cardboard seat and backrest cushions. All of this parts are joined simply by industrial made plastic ties. Main concept of this design was to create a cheap, “do it yourself” chair with personal character.

DO/09 – News
Designers’ Open 09 has some valuable improvements in store. Main attractions will be further highlighted to attract and guide visitors more specifically. The well structured new exhibition layout caters to the needs and expectations of exhibitors and visitors alike, with the new areas DO/Sale and DO/Idea (working title) clearly seperated. This way, both exhibitors hoping to sell their products and those showcasing projects and prototypes can make the very best of their presentation.

Industrial design is to become an integral part of the Designers’ Open portfolio. Providing essential industry-related services, this sector plays a vital role in promoting trendsetting contents and concepts. In collaboration with chambers and trade associations concerned, we aim to install an ideal environment for creators and the industry to meet up.

Event Location
We will announce the exact location of this years’ Festival Centre in a few weeks. The main trade show will of course be situated in the inner city, marking the vibrant centre of Designers’ Open. A number of off-site exhibitions (DO/Spots) add to the impact and scale of the Event, integrating the Festival into the urban surroundings and making the whole city participate.

DO/ Jury Prize
On October 23, 2009 prizes shall be awarded to the best submissions by an internationally-staffed jury. We are going to announce the jurors and prizes at a later date.

Breaking the Visitor Record
Stylepark praised Designers’ Open to be an „IdealMesse“ (the „ideal trade show“), Niels Holger Moormann dubbed it „congenially improvised“, while visitors and exhibitors were simply enthused about DO/08. Alltogether a feedback that fuels our aspiration to pass the 10.000 visitor mark this year.
