What’s old is new again. At least in my life right now. BOY, it’s been a whirlwind of changes for me lately. All good, but everything is happening so quickly, it seems. Or maybe life has been in slow motion for so long that it seems like life has sped up.

ANYWAY.

Amongst all the myriad of changes, I have a kid going “back to school!” It’s technically not “back” to school for him (as he’s been homeschooled and umbrella-schooled forever), but it’s “back” to school for me, seeing him off. It’s pretty exciting and scary at the same time. But there’s one thing we both get to do that’s totally exciting ad fun: SHOP! Woohoo! We’re hitting the Target Back to School section, you betcha! We have to load up on school supplies and clothes because sweat pants and busted pencils might do well at home but not in class, huh? I’m kind of excited about it. I’m a school supply junkie. I LOVE back-to-school sales for my own office. Now I gt to share the joys of buying 2,000 pink erasers and new colored Sharpies and 100 extra spiral notebooks (hey, you never know when you’re going to need a new notebook!) with the son. I also intend on sneaking over to the home and housewares section, too. Did you know there’s a Target in Canada, too?! I have friends going that way and they rave about the home decor canada has to offer there.

He also has a pitiful — and I mean pitiful — wardrobe. I had no idea that he has *only* three shirts that fit!! Time to get on the ball, mom. So we’ve set a date together and plan to hit the Target aisles next week. I need a new coffepot and some other small things around the house, not to mention I need picture frames for my new posters… I also just found out about the REDcard. It can save us 5% on shopping sprees. 🙂 And the Target website also has some great coupons for Sharpies, notebooks, lamps, and other home and school items. I’m thankful for sales, cards, and coupons — otherwise I’d be bankrupt before Columbus Day. :S

The whole thing is pretty exciting. And after 19 years of schooling the kids at home, I think we’re ready for a big change. The boy is looking forward to going to school, making new friends, and learning some of the electives that are being offered. And I’m looking forward to a new rug and finally getting my poster prints hung on the walls.

Life just keeps changing, doesn’t it?

Oh, hello. 🙂 I have been thinking about you. I thought I would drop by and say a quick hello before I run off again on other exploits. 🙂

I have been reading your blogs, just not commenting much. I usually read “on the go”: at coffee or lunch breaks, during commutes, or when I lounge on the couch after a day’s work. It’s horribly difficult to leave comments on blogs on the smartphone, especially Google-based blogs. To keep my sanity, I skip it, now. But I still read.

I sometimes think of what to write here, too. Working full-time seems to have drained much of my creative juicing, though. I like to spend my evenings unwinding after a long day, not churning up new stories to tell. But I keep the blogs up in the hopes that i might take the mantle again.

So (speaking to those of you who are still here and curious), what have I been doing besides working? Let’s see!

1. Rearranging the house!

Now that the kids are older and we no longer slave over textbooks, I’ve removed the desks and books and desk paraphernalia. I actually have my living room back!! Although, now with the guys on summer vacay, they want to play music more frequently. SO we ditched our dining room table (gasp!) and converted the dining room into a mini-music room.

2. Trying out some new tools!

I don’t collect shoes. I collect power tools. Oh, baby. I recently got a small, hand-held circular saw that is AMAZING. And now I am on the lookout for a reliable cordless drill. Look at the price of this baby!

Can you believe that we are STILL finishing up a lot of the loose projects from the 2010 kitchen renovation?! Ugh. The kids have been chipping away at some of them — trim work, mostly. We have yet to complete our window bench and I still have no carpeting in the living room. My new job was going to pay for all that but then the cost of living skyrocketed and inflation has gobbled everything away… sigh….

3. Feeding Livvy.. and other critters…

Yes, Livvy is still her crazy, curious self. She’s on a hunger bout these days but is as skinny as ever. And it seems that the local stray cat population has heard that there’s free food to be found around here. :S I DO NOT WANT ANY MORE PETS. Ugh.

4. Simplify, simplify, simplify.

We’re making life more simple. We’ve got a garden again (not doing too well, but oh well). We are going out less. We are making new friends and learning new things. I’m ditching all the fancy electronics I stocked up on back when I was a freelance writer. I want to get rid of all excess and live simply again. I’ve trimmed down on my blogs and I can now go weeks without sitting at the computer. It’s a good feeling.

So my life is a little duller in some respects, but happier now. The family is once again going through a transition. We are all growing up. It feels good.

Ever since I quit full-time blogging, I’ve slowly disengaged myself from the computer screen. The transition became complete when I got my smartphone and tablet. Thanks to apps, I really don’t need to sit in front of the computer anymore. I can read news, listen to audiobooks, check the weather and email and social networks, shop, pay and get paid, and research topics.

And I can blog!

One of the reasons for my lengthy absences from blogging is because I don’t like sitting at the computer anymore. So this is a wonderful development.

The caveat is limited functionality. I haven’t yet figured out how to incorporate certain extras, such as the cute animated emoticons I utilize on this blog, and the ability to quickly create, upload, and add images. That may be more difficult.

But I’m really liking the ability to blog on the go. Mobile tech rocks.
