Curator-Educator, Architecture and Design

Curator-Educator, Architecture and Design
Post: TSG23 - Closing Date: Friday 12th September 2008
Description:
The Study Gallery is a specialist organisation that designs and delivers exhibitions and education projects, services and cultural events to the public. In the context of lifelong learning, the programme spans formal and informal education and personal and professional development. Much work is in partnership with organisations, institutions, societies and other clients operating locally, regionally and internationally.

The Study Gallery occupies an acclaimed, purpose built facility designed by the international architect, designer and teacher Richard Horden. Until now, the gallery has focused its work on the exposition of fine art practice, occasionally representing architecture, music and photography

The Study Gallery has recently re-defined its roles and programmes. The purpose of this post is to initiate and develop contemporary Architecture and Design Solutions applicable to a wide variety of social, cultural and environmental contexts as one of the four, core disciplines to be equally represented in the gallery’s exhibition, educational and cultural offer.

Designed by the post holder, this aspect of the programme will embrace design and architecture for urban, rural, space and marine environments, as well as exploring innovative products, materials and systems. It will demonstrate practically the institution’s re-energised commitment to presenting ideas, issues and design solutions emanating from and relevant to a wide range of western and non-western cultures.

The Curator-Educator for Architecture and Design will research, design and deliver an innovative and accessible exhibition and lifelong learning programme that spans formal and informal creative, social and cultural education as well as professional development opportunities.
Structurally, the post holder will be part of the Management Team working under the partner-leadership of the Artistic Director and Gallery Manager. The team will further develop, refine and deliver the new remit of the gallery; including realisation of the business plan.

The post holder will collaborate and integrate their work as much in shared and collaborative exhibitions projects and all other on and off-site activities, projects as they will represent their discrete field of practice.

Curator-Educator, Inter-Disciplinary Arts and Arts and Business Events

Curator-Educator, Inter-Disciplinary Arts and Arts and Business Events
Post: TSG24 - Closing Date: Friday 12th September 2008
Description:
The Study Gallery is diversifying in order to maximise its potential as one of the most innovative, lively and participatory art galleries in the region and to put it in the best position to secure its long term viability.

The new organisation will not only represent the field of fine art but also: architecture, design and documentary arts. This new programme is designed to ensure that the visual-arts presents work of the widest interest to education and the public – in effect an art curriculum. Alongside the exhibition and project programme, the new organisation will also develop a new inter-disciplinary arts ‘events’ programme – initially focused on music, film and literature. This is designed to create a more social and cultural buzz in the conurbation.

Alongside developing the financial independence of the organisation through grants, sponsorship and traded services, each wing of the new organisation will be expected to reference creative and business innovation. Social inclusion and diversity are essential priorities in designing and implementing actions. ‘Local and Global’ influences will characterise the balance of the programme and the issues it addresses.
