Horses for Sale

We are delighted to announce listings of 3 of our young horses, Under Control Z, Cha Cha Z & Canterina Z.

You will find more information about our horses by following the links on this page.

Who am I?

My earliest memory of horses, I was I think around 3 years old and one of the guys who were working in the stables popped me up on a massive horse, my mum had almost had a "heart attack"

Sadly my grandfather passed away the exact same year I was born and so I never got to meet him in person, but the love for horses that ran through his blood was absolutely in mine, and there was to be no compromise.

Here are a couple of photos of my Grandfather in the 1930's

Our family bred horses for recreation and work, our horses were the pride of our family. In around 1943/4 the Nazi's came to our village in Poland they were obviously very interested in my Grandfathers horses, my grandfather tried to think fast and purposely made his best stallion lame so that they would ignore him. The Nazi general ordered his soldier to whip the horses and of course despite being slightly lame his best horse rose up in all his glory and the general pointed and demanded that he wanted that one!

My grandfather told stories to my parents about watching this general in the main square sitting on his best horse and how angry it made him. This always fascinates me and I believe it is this part of our history that drives me even harder.

My uncle continued to keep and breed horses, converting the stables into an amateur sports yard in the 80's with a school and equipment for jumping. I started training as a showjumper when I was around 13 and loved it. I had a fall when I was 16 and broke my back.. even so I was undeterred and as soon as I healed I was back on my Horse. I carried on jumping in amateur competitions in Europe and then moved to the UK and continued there for 4 years. Whilst in the UK I bought a lot of youngsters from Europe and matched them with UK based buyers I realised that I had more of an eye for spotting young talent and breeding that I did jumping so I made a decision to return to my native Poland and set up a stables for breeding.

I continue to ride leisurely but our family focus since 2008 has been to build up our group of quality mares and secure relationships with what I felt are the best studs in Europe. I decided that the studs of Schockemohle and Zangersheide would be suited perfectly for the type of horses I was looking to breed.

We aim to keep things simple and produce between 5 and 6 new foals per year based on my own research and of course guidance from the staff at Schockemohle and Zangersheide. We are blessed to have relationships with Grand Prix riders through Justriding.com and so to balance costs as a growing breeder some of my 4 year olds may go on for further development under riders at this level, while some will be sold to add funds back into the stables and allow us to continue to grow.

Introducing Beris - bits that offer flexibility!

True craftsmanship and carefully selected materials

The protection of the horse‘s sensitive mouth is most important to Beris, which shows in the use of the chosen materials. From bit ring to curb, all metal parts are formed by hand, welded and polished to perfection. To guarantee the safety of the bits for horse and rider, they go through vigorous tenacity testings. The newly developed form of our mouthpieces provides a better acceptance of the bit and alleviates the communication between horse and rider.

Plastic-compound mouthpieces

Beris mouthpieces are made of a food safe plastic compound with a surface refinement so far unequalled in the range of plastic bits. The surface is very smooth and they slide easily in the mouth, even if the horse doesn´t salivate that much. The “eraser like effect” known of rubber bits will not occur with Beris mouthpieces! Horses accept them very well and will often be encouraged to chew and salivate more.

The initial idea was to develop a thinner mouthpiece with the proven effect of the Tongue Port Bit. During the phase of development Beris also became inspired by the characteristics of the Butterfly Bit. In conclusion the KONNEX-Bit is to be understood as the deliberate summary of positive characteristics of both.

The bit itself is slimmer, it positions itself very comfortable in the horse’s mouth. Moreover, the proved Beris Tongue Port offers generous space to the sensitive tongue musclein the KONNEX-Bit. Additionally the bit widens in the area of the port. That means to spread the pressure of the rein on a greater area of the tongue, the tongue will be protected from too much pressure on a small area.

The KONNEX-Bit is suitable for horses with little space in their mouth, e.g. thoroughbred type horses, or older horses (due to the dental changes), horses with large-scale tongues and especially the ones who do not tolerate too much pressure on the tongue.

Beris PRIME sets new standards in the communication between horse and rider. Due to the anatomical shape of the extreme soft mouthpiece the pressure is equally spread on tongue and bars. With their carefully shaped passages to the centrepiece, the integrated oval bit guards prevent the horses’ lips from pinching and grant lateral support.

Beris PRIME is made of a food safe plastic compound with a surface refinement unequalled so far in the range of plastic bits. The chosen plastic compound is made of a super soft material, increasing chewing activity and causing more salivation. Therefore the „Eraser like effect“ will not occur with Beris PRIME. Even if the horse doesn’t salivate that much this bit slides easily in the mouth because of its refined surface.

To be on the safe side an inlay of steel was implemented inside the super soft material of beris PRIME. The stainless steel cheeks are made with the most significant artisan knowledge and finally fitted precisely to their sockets

We founded our company in 2008 taking it online in 2012, since then we have focused on increasing the recognition of our brand "Just Riding" not with fancy marketing companies or buying likes on social media.. we as a horsey family grew the brand organically by providing the best service we possibly could for the best price and balancing the profit in our pockets with the money we give back to the industry which gave us everything.

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone of our customers who have supported us and continue to support us during this awful time. You have allowed us to build this strong family and a business that provides an income to many people some of whom have been with us for over 6 years!

We took measures weeks ago to protect our staff, which means that all of them are working from home with the exception of a single dispatcher who is coming in for a few hours every other morning sorting and dispatching parcels to our customers.

Of course we have been hit by this virus as has almost everyone who owns a small business, our sales are down more than 50%. Our staff have all supported our business and their futures by going on part time hours to reduce outgoings. Manufacturers are all still supplying us but there are of course some delays to navigate right now.

On the bright and wonderful side we still have some orders coming in, thanks to you guys out there who are choosing us to continue to provide products for you and your horses. We owe you all a huge debt of gratitude.

Points for Loyalty on Justriding.com

We did it, finally we decided on a partner for our loyalty awards program. Now before you all say "didn't you have one of those once" we did and we found it restrictive and not really worth your while participating in. So we waited and we waited some more until finally 4 years later we found Loyalty Lion who are now providing us with an awesome platform for you, our much loved and well deserving customers.

WE MADE IT APPEALING AND WORTHWHILE

When we decided to once again integrate a Loyalty points system we wanted it to be worthwhile for you, and so we switched up the earning of points and lowered the required points required for rewards.

Which means for example you only need to spend €200 to earn enough points (2000) for a FREE SHIPPING voucher for your next order!

We added ways that you can earn additional points without making a purchase.

For example simply by visiting our store once a week we will give you 25 points! or refer a friend and we will give you a massive 2000 points, instant FREE SHIPPING or €20 Off Voucher!

SPECIAL FEATURES

We have also included special features like swap points for products, which means you can save up your points throughout the year and when you have accumulated enough you can swap them for an epic product from our range for example a pair of Tech Stirrups, Parlanti or Best Selling breeches from Equiline.

Our average cart value over a two year period was €350, which means that with only 7 or 8 visits to our store you could save enough for those illusive Parlanti you have had your eye on, or why wait swap those points for a pair of Tech Stirrups after only 4 or 5 shopping trips to our store.

We will even give you points when its your birthday, if you follow us on Instagram.

Yes, you read our ridiculously neon sign correctly thanks to the awesomeness of Loyalty Lion we are able to grant you guys double points on certain brands for example.

DOUBLE POINTS EARNED ON PARLANTI UNTIL DECEMBER 2019

You want to save up your points for those Parlanti you have wanted forever, well great news buy any product from Parlanti including Polish, Stirrups Straps, socks or boots and receive double points on those items which will get you to your goal of those boots twice as fast!

We will be sending out monthly newsletters informing you which brands you can earn double points on in that month!

We hope you enjoy our new way of rewarding our customers, lets face it "General SALES" are getting a bit tired and so we think this is a great way of giving back to you for all the support and loyalty you give to us! :-)

Thanks Victoria

Why Dy'on Bridles & Leathergoods for your horse?

To purchase Dy'on is to bathe in milk and dry yourself off with a golden towel, at least right now anyway... in short Dy'on are currently the hottest leather goods brand in the world with people falling over themselves to clad their beloved in their glorious products.

We wanted to pay homage to a brand that we here at Just Riding love so much and our customers seem to love even more. By digitizing this wonderful article written by Kathy Carter.

From a simple product idea from a blacksmith, to worldwide product distribution – why equestrian equipment manufacturer Dy’on continues to stay at the top of its game. Belgium-based riding equipment manufacturer Dy’on SPRL began life over twenty years ago, in 1990.

It's founder, still the owner and main product designer at the company, started the self-titled brand in Namur in the south of Belgium, where the majority of the organisation’s production is still based. Philippe Dion was a blacksmith by trade, and a well-known show jumping rider at national level. One day, Philippe wanted to buy a pair of full length chaps, but couldn’t find any that were convenient to him in Namur; so he decided to make his own, along with his auntie Evelyne Van Dijck, a former tailor and sewing teacher. The first pair of famous Dy’on chaps had been created.

Spreading the Word

Philippe proudly wore his new chaps at the shows he was competing at, and the word began to spread – he was soon taking orders from friends for bespoke chaps, again making them with the talented Evelyne. Demand increased across Belgium so quickly that Philippe decided to setup a workshop in Namur.

Dy’on SPRL was officially launched, and ariding equipment empire was born. “We started manufacturing both full length and half chaps at this time, and I would go out and sell them exclusively in Dy'on stands in shows all around Europe,” Philippe recalls. “We specialised in custom made products, and offered fringes, detailing and piping on the full chaps. We and began distributing into retail shops as well the same year, although the main market was still at the shows.”

As Philippe Dion was traveling to the biggest shows in Europe, he was in contact with the world’s leading riders on the show jumping circuit at this time, from John Whitaker and Ludo Phillipaerts to Nelson Pessoa and Philippe Rozier. Philippe liaised closely with many of the riders in terms of their needs, and started to work in ever-closer collaboration with them and their grooms. “The development of most of the Dy’on products that we created was based on their requests and remarks, and also their constructive feedback,”Philippe says. “These products were tested at the highest levels, so we knew they were functional and fit for purpose - we always appreciated the feedback from such elite riders, and continue to do so today, with our roster of sponsored riders.”

Here Comes the Bridle
The company continued to grow, and in 1992, Philippe launched the first Dy’on bridlework line, made in England. It boasted classic lines, fine detailing and the company’s striking cream stitching, as well as stainless steel buckles – all marks of quality. The range quickly became popular with the show jumping elite. However, rising production costs meant that within six years, Philippe was faced with a dilemma – should he keep production within the UK, or move it elsewhere, to help keep the retail prices down?

As he could not find a solution to maintain cost-effective, high quality leather, in 1998 Philippe decided to stop producing Dy’on bridlework altogether. However, two years later in 2000, at the BETA International Trade Fair, Philippe was introduced to an Indian manufacturer who Philippe asked to make a bridle sample. When he received the sample, Philippe was so impressed by its quality that he decided to go to India to set up a workshop, and teach and train a team of workers dedicated to the high quality Dy’on ethos. Bridle production resumed that year, and Philippe is still very proud of the quality leatherwork provided – he regularly receives requests from the leading bridle wear brands to manufacture goods for them. “We have created a close collaboration with skilled leatherwork manufacturers in India,” Philippe explains. “We are creating articles of a high quality, but are keeping the costs more reasonable – unfortunately it wasn’t possible to keep production in Europe, and maintain reasonable costs.

All bridlework items manufactured by us are under full control of our reliable, local staff. The Dy’on philosophy was, and continues to be, the constant quest for perfection and innovation. The Dy’on trademark is a guaranteed label of satisfaction, and of this we are immensely proud,” Philippe adds.

Creation and Craftsmanship
By 2004, Philippe had launched the industry’s first off-the-peg, standard half chaps. The ‘Classic’ line, produced in the company’s Belgian workshop, featured a smart, full-grained leather chap with a back zip closing from bottom to top, and a zipper on the elastic strip for a perfect fit; no matter what the rider’s leg shape These were designed to provide aunique ‘second skin’ fit and feel, for increased sensitivity and communication with the horse, aswell as all-important leg support.“From the beginning, we made sure that each Dy’on product wasinnovate and perfectly manufactured; the creation, craftsmanship, quality of the materials and customer service have been the first four rules of the company since we began, and continue to be of utmost importance,” Philippe adds.

Classic Mini Chaps by Dy'on

A Worldwide Network
In 2007, Dy’on added a third mainline of products, which includedquality horse rugs in poly-cottonand wool. Accessories such as stall guards, wraps and bags followed, all in tough, durable textiles. Today’s range also includes all manner of leather accessories, from head collars to horse boots, and the company has a 12-strong workforce to manage production and supply.

For almost ten years now, the company has worked with a network of wholesalers. Philippe maintained the ethos of top quality leatherwear and quality products, creating ranges that would last the test of time, and were renowned throughout the industry. “We now sell almost worldwide, mainly to wholesalers that distribute to regional tack shops,” Philippe says. “We are distributed by companies that recognise our expertise and know the market – they include HorseFitform International in Belgium and France; Equality Line in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark; Equine Industry in Holland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland; Running Fox in the USA and Canada, and Elite Horse in the Middle East. We pretty much have all corners of the globe covered,” Philippe modestly says.

Inspiring other Product Lines
So, with such an impressive network in place, what is the range’s differentiating factor - what sets Dy’on apart from its competitors? The equestrian equipment industry has obviously grown massively in the last twenty years, with any decent product line being replicated by competitors that see the benefits of a range or item, or want to see a similar return on investment. “Product copying of course takes place. Certainly in the market of the half chaps, many brands have been largely inspired by our models - but we are still the only company manufacturing such high-quality products, with quality guarantees, in Belgium,” Philip says. “Apart from our choice of the best material, our unique selling point is that we form close relationships with the main players of our sport – our products are used at the highest levels, and are designed to fit the needs of elite horses and their riders. Plus, every product is still designed by me, rather than someone that is not a rider, and isn’t actively involved in the industry. I know what riders want,” Philippe explains.

True Retail Values
Few companies within the equestrian sector have been unaffected by the economic climate, which continues to disseminate across the world. “But
we believe that in this crisis time, customers are coming back to true retail values,” Philippe states. “They wish to have quality products, and to own timeless and trustworthy items that will last. Yes, there are cheaper products on the market, but will they last as long, and be such an investment purchase as ours? For most of our clients, horse riding is a priceless pleasure, and they want to enjoy their equipment as much as their riding time. This is especially the case when life is tough. So providing them the most beautiful, durable and well-performing equipment at a reasonable, fair price is Dy’on’s priority. We also focus on a great after-sale service - any repairs or replacements are carried out if needed, and it is points like these that make the difference, and ensure our continued success in this uncertain economic climate.”

The Hackamore Bridle by Dy'on

Quarter Century Anniversary
With the company’s quarter century anniversary approaching, what is Phillipe’s plan for the future? “We plan to increase our sales in Holland, Germany, USA and Canada, and also Asian countries like China and Japan,” he explains. “We are already present in these countries, but need to get bigger and stronger there. We will continue to develop one or two new products each year, which we usually present at the Spoga International Trade Fair for Equestrian Sports in Cologne - we have a booth there every February and September, and find that it is a great opportunity to showcase our latest products to the wider trade marketplace. We are also always on the look-out for ways to innovate existing products – a good example is our anatomic bridle, which features a head piece that starts back at the nape of the neck, and features a crossed throat piece. This has absolutely no poll pressure at all, and is winning accolades from riders of horses that are head-shy, sensitive to poll pressure, or have large or sensitive ears. For dressage riders especially, it allows the horse to soften and perform comfortably.

We will keep on doing our best to be at the highest level in the equestrian market, and to satisfy our actual clients – that is what it is all about, after all – keeping our customers happy, and keeping their horses happy,” Philippe concludes.

We wanted to add that currently Dy'on is a brand that is outselling its rivals, the Hackamore and Anatomic Bridles by Dy'on receive 5* after 5* reviews from our customers and we are delighted to have these and all other Dy'on products showcased on Justriding.com It is true premium equestrian brands like this that define our business as "The Premium Equestrian Store"

Justriding.com announced that despite a slight downtrend in the market in 2017 we will continue to support many brand ambassadors and sponsored riders from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Poland, Hong Kong and Germany. However, we will sadly be saying goodbye for now to some who have been involved in our journey for quite a while. Our thanks to these few have been extended privately and we wish them all the success in the world with their riding and their horses in the future.

2017 has been a tough year with many suppliers sticking hard to wholesale prices and some increasing prices and tightening terms, shows & exhibitions where we sell our products no longer offer any concessions for long term or high value clients. Combine this climate with customer expectations for discounts and altogether better deals on premium equestrian clothing & equipment growing year after year the math is easy to figure out, it equates to challenging financial times.

In 2017 Just Riding invested in a brand new website which is focused more around the shopping experience for the customer, we employed 3 new full time staff members and an all new state of the art customer service system which supports our new trading policies. We also expanded our in house stock by 100% from the year before.

Justriding.com As we move into 2018 we want to shed some older lines through clearance and outlet sales and look to reinvest in one or two new key brands for the future, when I built I promised that I would bring the latest and very best of the equestrian world in terms of equipment and clothing to the masses, by traveling to all the major shows both in Europe and in the United States and that is what I have been doing.

I have some awesome brands in mind for you guys I have seen, touched and caught the bug for, and cant wait to settle the agreements with the suppliers and get them on the website for pre order and purchase.

In the meantime enjoy the massive discounts and sale on Animo Italia and Montar as well as reductions on a few ex display items from Dyon, eQuick and Kask.

Equestrians Dodge Blood Rule - Body Bandage

Equestrians dodge the blood rule with the new Body Bandage (Spur Guard) from LOVE HORSES of Italy.

We have been selling the original body bandage (spur guard) for nearly two years, but have seen sales rocket in recent months. Interestingly coinciding with showjumping judges controversial decisions to disqualify both Bertram Allen and Scot Brash under the "Blood Rule" which states something like - any trace of blood found on the horse in this case the horses flank would warrant immediate disqualification.

The fact that the "trace" may have been almost invisible to the eye, matters none.. the rules as they say are the rules.

Equestrians are also starting to see the benefits of the body bandage for non competitive use, one of our customers recently reviewed stating that she liked it because she no longer wore the hair off her horses flank with her boot when she was riding.

Competitive equestrians at the highest level have adopted the body bandage and we have seem the likes of Edwina Tops-Alexander, Constant Van Paesschen, Emanuel Andrade, Faleh Suwead Al Ajami, E. Von Eckermann, N. V. Callerio, Gudrun Patteet and many more using the product in major tournaments in Europe.

Check out our video below which gives a little more information about the Body Bandage and how it is used.

- SPECIAL INTRODUCTORY OFFER AT THE END OF THIS ARTICLE -

HOCOR are working with a UK based rider Claire O'Hara who is currently testing our products on her sport horses they and have just secured an agreement to supply products for the horses of Italian professional rider Alberto Violante seen here below:

If someone were to ask me, what's the difference between HOCOR and another typical off the shelf brand of supplement it would be almost impossible to verbally describe in terms of the gap between the two but I'll take a couple of examples below and give it a try:

Let's take a look at HOCOR Complete and compare it to an off the shelf brand which is also marketed as a "General Purpose" or "Complete" supplement / product for your horse.

HOCOR contains a very high quality protein which is extracted from a yeast called yarrowia lypolitica this is a patented product which is only found in two commercial products throughout the world.

The complex explanation which will be followed by a simple explanation is that Yarrowia lipolytica are dimorphic yeast forming cream-coloured, irregular colonies with numerous hyphae. They occur naturally in margarine, cereal plants, high-protein meat products, vegetables, frozen food and wine.

They belong to non-pathogenic microorganisms, and processes it participates in have the status of „Generally Recognised as Safe” (GRAS). Contrary to Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast processing simple sugars, this strain uses fats (vegetable fatty acids, including unsaturated acids) as a source of carbon and energy.

It is slightly confusing, but if you take your horses health seriously then it's worth hanging on.

Let me try to create a simple metaphor, imagine lake number 1 is a stunning crystal clear lake, the sunshine bounces off the shimmering surface. Now imagine lake number 2 a dark, nasty looking lake which actually looks more like swamp. Are you going to eat the fish caught in lake number 1 or the fish caught in lake number 2?

"the yeast from which HOCOR protein is extracted has a high biological value of 80%"

Due to its unique physiological and biochemical properties the strain offers a huge biotechnological potential.

*Our own sports horses above benefit from HOCOR feed and supplements

It is characterised by:

high protein content between 42% and 47%

High dry mass content (97%)

Low raw ash content (5%).

Protein from that yeast is particularly valuable, because of high content of lysine. It is also characterised by good absorbability. Also the high phenylalanine, valine, tryptophan and isoleucin content is notable. Moreover, protein from Yarrowia lipolytica yeast has a high biological value of 80 %.

I had a look at the label of a typical off the shelf complete product, the protein content was listed at around 13%, HOCOR Complete has a protein content of at least 42% remembering that this is also a very high quality protein.

Lets talk about Amino Acids for horses

Speak to anyone who trains particularly athletes or body builders and they will tell you all about BCAA's (Branch Chain Amino Acids) and how critical they are.

The fact is horses just like humans need them! we need Amino Acids, they are the building blocks of protein.

Here is a little know fact for you: Essential amino acids cannot be made by the horse. As a result, they must come from food / diet. The 9 essential amino acids are: histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine.

I found this great video below which explains Amimo Acids for horses and also reiterates the importance of using a high quality protein.

Video Credited to: Forage First Nutrition FF19, ADM Alliance Nutrition and The Horse Show with Rick Lamb

"HOCOR Complete contains 16 Amino Acids"

We are still looking at HOCOR Complete as an example and an off the shelf popular branded general purpose or "complete" product. HOCOR has 16 Amino Acids while the other brand has 2, we have already learned that there are 9 essential Amino Acids which the horse can not make themselves, so where is your horse getting the other 7 essential Amino Acids from?

Sports Equestrians would not consider using an ill fitted saddle in competition or a bit that wasn't right for their horses mouth in fact when you think about the lengths of some forum threads created about which bit to use, the mind literally boggles equestrian can talk for months about that one subject and spend thousands on the "right" saddle. Yet when it comes to their horses nutrition many are happy to put cost before any other consideration which to me, quite frankly is utter madness. I rate what I put inside my horses above anything that I put on them.

HOCOR Complete (the product I have been speaking about in this brief article) is available to purchase from our store.

In the coming weeks I will be writing about the other products in the HOCOR range and how each one will benefit your horse and help you to achieve the results you want from your riding.

Remember whether you jump, event or dressage your horse is an athlete, he must be treated like one.

Justriding.com supports para showjumper Evie Toombes

Around 2 years ago we crossed paths with an amazing young lady called Evie Toombes, due to my connection with a boot manufacturer and working at the time as an agent for said company I was able to introduce her to the possibility of receiving some boots on a sponsorship basis, for some reason the deal just never quite came off and so we picked up the tab for the boots and remained in contact.

I am such a busy person clearing at least 60 emails per day is the norm for me and I rarely have time to look at anything specifically I usually just power glance at each mail and try to delegate the best I can, but Caroline's (Evie's mum) emails always stopped me in my tracks and left me considering just how great this young rider was and how fortunate I am to have my own health in good order.

Evie is struggling with what she writes about quite eloquently on her own blog, Lipomyelomeningocele which is a form of Spina Bifida. She did undergo surgeries to try to rectify the issues but has been left with challenges. You can find Evie Toombes blog here it is called "Find a way not an excuse" <<< we love that!!

Despite her condition Evie's passion for riding seems to win out over everything, I receive emails and photo's of Evie regularly on her horse competing up and down the country at various shows. Not intent on simply competing in small regional shows Evie has gone further and competed at Bolesworth, the national championships at Stoneleigh. Evie also won the grade III senior para showjumping at the National RDA Champs in Hartpury and was selected for training with Dame Emma Jane Brown. Her commitment to her sport of riding and accomplishments for a girl of just 15 are phenomenal.

I decided that we would offer Evie a place on our "team" as a brand ambassador from May 2017. We at Just Riding think that Evie is what the sport is all about, passion, commitment and lots of hard work! We are absolutely honoured that Evie accepted our offer and we are humbled to be a part of Caroline and Evie's world.

As part of our Brand Ambassadors deal Evie will be supported with discounted and sometimes cost price products as well as some products for free throughout the year.

We hope that the little we have to offer will help Evie with her riding and look forward to many years of collaboration. Currently Evie rides in Animo Italia, KEP Italia and Parlanti Passion.

Here are a few photos of Evie in action...

Amazing!

I have seen the future and it looks like the KEP Italia E-LIGHT...

I don't want to read the article I just want to buy the helmet ------->>>

KEP Italia E-LIGHT

I feel absolutely compelled to shine a spot light on KEP Italia's new E-Light range of helmets which they released recently. I think KEP may have secretly been working with NASA!

First I want to speak a little bit about KEP Italia. To be honest I could probably never run out of superlatives to describe KEP and what seems to be an endless search for perfection. While other helmet manufacturers produce perfectly nice and sometimes even stunning helmets, KEP produces memorable helmets, helmets that are unforgettable. For me their helmets are a bit like the Ferrari Enzo or the Lamborghini Diablo, while other car makers were making great cars Ferrari and Lamborghini were making unforgettable cars. Helmets that push the limits of what is possible. Their use of precious materials as far as I know is a first in the industry and the unique finish in doing so is omnipresent here in these exquisite models one with inlaid mother of pearl and the other with beautiful Lapis Lazuli. I believe these are the Diablo's and the Enzo's of the helmet world.

The KEP model above with inlaid mother of pearl will set the discerning rider back a cool €1,342.00 and the model adorned with Lapis Lazuli a meager €5,073.00!

Moving on to their latest contribution the E-LIGHT, does it satisfy? oh yes it does! Once again KEP Italia push the boundaries of possibility and produce a helmet that weighs just 396 grams whilst still meeting ALL global safety certifications. I mean seriously though! my conscience after a cheeky Friday night out is heavier than that!! The investment in research and development of this model is mind boggling I truly believe that passion must have ruled over profit when I look at models like the E-LIGHT. The entire cap of the E-LIGHT is 100% carbon fibre and is made using a process called autoclave, the process for each helmet is very long and complex specialized artisans stratify the carbon fibers by hand to obtain phenomenal results in terms of quality and high mechanical strength. This is the same process that is used by the aerospace industry for example on the black hawk helicopter and UAV drones it is very, very high tech.

The Science Bit

In the production of composite aerospace and aircraft components, autoclave curing has traditionally been used to achieve the desired fiber content (resin-to-fiber ratio) and the absence of resin voids to produce light weight and strong components. Autoclave curing achieves this by placing the part under vacuum in an autoclave and then pressurizing the autoclave during the heated cure cycle. The high pressure on the part (within the pressurized autoclave) helps to minimize resin voids and to achieve the desired resin/fiber ratio.

Autoclaves are utilized where the highest of material performance standards are required such as a void content of less than 2% and high glass transition temperatures. Aerospace autoclaves normally operate from 120 to 230 degrees Celsius within a nitrogen environment at 7 bars of pressure. Liquid nitrogen is injected into the heated autoclave to create the internal pressure. Most common materials cured in an autoclave are advanced composites such as carbon fiber and epoxy resins. Curing cycles range from 90 minutes to 12 hours.

OK you made it through the science bit, well done :-) I want to go through each variant of the E-LIGHT as they are available in a few different trims, first the "NAKED" model has no inserts at all in order they say to better highlight the carbon fibre shell and natural lines. The helmet comes in either Shine or Matt finish.

Here she is below as naked as they day she was born:

KEP Shine E-LIGHT Naked - €772

and KEP Matt E-LIGHT Naked €830

Now if you prefer to add some ventilation assistance to the helmet you can opt for either 2 or 3 additional inserts and choose to have them in black, green or Bordeaux, I have to say I looked at the Bordeaux colour and immediately thought about the Qatar Equestrian team, they would compliment their Bordeaux jackets like wine & cheese. Having spoken to a few customers about the NAKED models and the models with inserts their opinions are split down the middle, some want the added inserts saying that they like the look of them and some stating that they prefer to increase air flow as much as possible. So it really is down to personal preference, I spoke to a customer who has ridden in a NAKED helmet and a helmet with inserts and she said that she could feel the difference in air flow in canter after riding for a while in heat.

Here below we have the NAKED Shine model plus 2 vents in black.

KEP Shine E-LIGHT 2 Inserts - €965

As you can see from the image here below the 2 inserts are mounted over the ventilation holes in the front and back of the helmet forcing air down into the holes when riding.

Finally we have the NAKED Shine with all 3 inserts also in black, 3 inserts is the maximum you can add to the helmet. This is very different to the NAKED helmet and the helmet with 2 inserts because KEP have added additional ventilation to the front grill on the helmet and overlaid the insert as pictured. This helmet is providing maximum ventilation to the head during riding, we think it also looks pretty cool. Having said that we are having internal turmoil at Just Riding because half the office love the NAKED helmet with no inserts and half love the model with all 3. So lets call it a tie.

KEP Shine E-LIGHT 3 inserts - €1025 (add €60 for matt)

Aerochill cooling boots the latest game changer in the equestrian world (Video)

So you are a competitive horse rider, whether this means that you are away for weeks on end or simply load up the trailer and trot off to your local show one weekend a month. This next article applies to YOU!

I have been riding and competing for around 20 years, showjumping has always been my discipline. During the course of the last 20 years I have seen products come and go and some which have stayed and really made a difference to me and to my riding. Safety stirrups for example I wouldn't ride in anything else anymore and haven't done for years, and I certainly wouldn't put my kids in anything else.

This is me...

So what I want to talk about is something that is a huge bug bare when I have been away with a few horses and that is cooling their legs properly after work, and I mean properly. I used to use gels but I stopped doing just gels years ago when they brought out ice vibration thingy me jigs... the problem I always had with these was that whenever we were away you could almost guarantee that I had no batteries with me, the next next thing was leg wraps with these refrigerated inserts which I thought worked really well. Again the problem, no batteries, no fridge, no ice, no cold water... but 12 hot legs to cool.

In early 2016 I was walking around BETA the large equestrian trade show in the UK and I always make a beeline for the innovation section as it really interests me, what's new in the equestrian world and what I can buy to help either my horses or myself to be a better rider.

It was on this visit that I came across these:

What are they?

These are called Aerochill and these unassuming beauties would change my life and my horses lives forever!

Aerochill work by using the principal of evaporative cooling to produce a cooling effect when wrapped around your horses hot legs, they take the warm air and push it out and away from your horses leg, Guess what? No batteries, No Fridge, No Ice. You only need a bucket of water.

I immediately got chatting to the owner and developer of the product but was a little apprehensive at first, they just seemed too good to be true. I made my interest known and said I would pop back at the end of the show. When I returned at the end of the show I noticed a shiney certificate standing next to the product, they had won the main award for innovation from the British Equestrian Trade Association! If any of you guys have been to the show you will know just how hard the competition is for these awards. I couldn't get my pen out quickly enough to secure delivery of mine and some for my shop.

I bought these boots nearly two years ago, and I am STILL using them almost every weekend!

Here is a video I put together today I think it shows just how simple and effective these boots really are.

I am so impressed by these little boots that I have actually given them out for free to some of our brand ambassadors to use. Melanie Geddis a showjumper out of Ireland has been using them for around 12 months, here is a photo of her in action and also what she had to say about them.

Melanie Said...

"I found that the Aerochill boots where prefect for home use and also for use at shows, they were great for my horses after their daily exercise and also for using them after they jumped! They are so easy to use, i just dunk them in a cols bucket of water, and them leave them om for 10-15 minutes depending on their work load!"

As I said earlier in my post, there are some things that have come along in the 20+ years I have been riding which have made a huge difference to me or to my horses, right now Aerochill are up at the top of the list. I no longer have to think about gels, batteries, fridges, ice..the only thing I have to remember are the boots, there is always water available. They are also super lightweight so I can throw 6 pairs in my grooming box and feel absolutely no difference in the total weight.

I want to add that I have also lately discovered when speaking to my physio and vet that placing ice or very cold substances directly onto my horses legs is incredibly bad for them and in fact causes tissue damage, just another reason why I wont be using anything else other than Aerochill.

If you are interested in ordering a pair of Aerochill at the time if writing this post I still have around 26 pairs left!

Lorenzo Lights Up LGCT Cannes with Spectacular CSI5* Win

The second evening of competition on the Longines Global Champions Tour of Cannes showcased another night of top sport and world-class entertainment as the stars came out on the French Riviera. On-form LGCT Ranking leader Lorenzo de Luca (ITA) wowed the crowds by winning a 12-rider jump-off by over a second from the rest of the field with Halifax van het Kluizebos, winning the lion’s share of the €62,000 and an all inclusive holiday to Mauritius.

Speaking about his round, Lorenzo praised his phenomenal stallion: “My horse jumped fantastic. He loves to do the jump-off, he’s always competitive. He loves to go fast! It’s a fantastic atmosphere here.”

Uliano Vezzani’s course was all about keeping focus, with the spotlights shining on the 54 strong field. Related distances, imposing oxers and full height verticals were all in the mix with the Italian course designer featuring big parallels, wide and square.

First to set the pace again with a clear was on-form Simon Delestre (FRA) with chestnut gelding Chesall Zimequest dancing around the arena as the sky changed from blue, to pink to deep purple while the sun began its slow descent. The home town hero drew cheers from the crowd, with the top French rider not disappointing after a masterful display of show jumping prowess. Local fans had plenty to celebrate, after Mathieu Billot (FRA) with his stunning dapple grey Vent du Sud Kerglenn and Kevin Staut (FRA) jumped beautiful clears to earn themselves a place in the jump-off.

19 year old German talent Philip Houston (GER) has been impressing around the world with his skills, however took an unusual tumble at the gappy vertical after a miscommunication with Ulane Belmaniere while pushing for a longer stride saw them stop at the very last minute. Jane Richard Philips (SUI) was another rider to taste drama, after Calinesse de Guldenboom checked before the treble combination, adding a stride before crashing through the black and orange oxer, and Scott Brash (GBR) was eliminated after Hello Annie stopped at the BMW oxer, somersaulting Scott over her head with the British Olympian landing on his feet.

Clears came throughout the field, with Darragh Kenny (IRL), Ludger Beerbaum (GER), Pieter Devos (BEL), Ramzy Hamad Al Duhami (KSA), Alberto Zorzi (ITA), Sergio Alvarez Moya (ESP), Henrik von Eckermann (SWE), Lorenzo de Luca (ITA) and Denis Lynch (IRL) making up the 12-strong jump-off.

First to go was Simon Delestre (FRA) and Chesall who set off at a pace with all the intent of a home win. But a shock stop from the chestnut gelding at the Longines plank saw the pair collect four faults, before Simon retired his feisty horse from the competition. Darragh Kenny (IRL) had the pressure of setting the bench mark, but mastered the course with Chanel setting the time at 38.55s.

Ramzy Hamad Al Duhami (KSA) gave it a spin with High Quality J, but the pair were unable to match Darragh’s time, as did Pieter Devos (BEL) and Claire Z and Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) with Hermes de Mariposa who jumped beautiful clears but all finished outside the Irishman’s time.

Sergio Alvarez Moya (ESP) blitzed around the arena with G&C Unicstar de l'Aumone, with the pair rolling the dice at their gallop to the last. Luck wasn’t on their side, and the pole fell to the groan of the crowd, dropping them down the order. Their faster time however showed there was still room for manoeuvre, with the final riders yet to come.

An unlucky pole for Italian star Alberto Zorzi (ITA) and Cinsey put them out of the running, and Ludger Beerbaum (GER) also picked up a refusal after coming at the vertical with too much of an angle for his young horse Chacon. The pressure was on local rider Mathieu Billot (FRA), who also clipped a pole to collect four faults.

Three big guns were yet to come, with the LGCT Ranking leader Lorenzo de Luca (ITA) storming into the ring with Halifax van het Kluizebos. The pair seriously meant business with the speedy Italian galloping the course and taking an absolute flier to the last to stop the clock in 37.46s. Denis Lynch (IRL) and RMF Bella Baloubet looked strong but a rub of a pole dropped them down the order with four faults.

The final rider to enter was local star Kevin Staut (FRA) and Silver Deux de Virton HDC, with the crowd erupting for their home hero. The crowd drew their breath as the pair set off around the course, but it wasn’t to be after they clipped a pole and picked up four faults.

So it was Italian star Lorenzo who shone brightest tonight in Cannes, with all eyes on the LGCT Ranking leader to see if he can keep hold of his lead in tomorrow’s Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Cannes. The Global Champions League of Cannes final will kick off at 18:30, with the top 25 individuals qualifying for the Grand Prix which will take place at 22:00 local time.

Hi Guys,

This last few weeks have once again been void of any major event, I think that is probably a good thing as "major events" usually involve one of a few things. Injured Horses, Injured Kids, Injured Husband... broken equipment, Staff issues or Stable Fires. So I'm thinking perhaps non eventful may be a positive thing for me?

Things that have happened.

In my last post I told you all about Crystal and Equador two older horses that we took on at the yard, well we did go ahead with arranging a few lessons on both Crystal and Equador to assist in covering their costs. We decided to go with people who had ridden before but required training rather than beginners kicking the poor things all around the arena.

I have to say that they both seem to be enjoying the exercise, attention and general business of working for a living. Their temperament is ideal and for the few lessons per week we have booked on them it mean that their food and farrier are pretty much paid for which helps us a great deal. Happy Me, Happy Horses... Happy Everyone!

Crystal

Equador (He is starting to look much better)

If you are a young aspiring horse rider and you like the look of either Crystal or Equador let us know and we will send you a nice photo of either of them for your bedroom wall. :-)

JUST RIDING OHIO - OUR DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH

In other horse news my young hopeful "Just Riding Ohio" took part in his first 1.25m this weekend gone, we were so fortunate to have a proper photographer at the show and so we grabbed these amazing photos some of which I have posted here below.

A short history on Ohio, I'll keep it relatively brief as I don't want to bore anyone to death so early in the blog. Just Riding Ohio was originally named Otok arrived with us as a 3 year old from a farmer / villager who had him stabled just outside of Warsaw in Poland. Despite not being on a German, Dutch or Belgian passport as most sought after European horses are Ohio is on a Polish passport. We ignored the fact that he was registered on a Polish passport and kept an open mind as we have had much experience in the past with Polish warmbloods and had found most of them to be brave, scopey horses with good heads. If they are good enough for the daughter of a princess, Zara Phillips then they are good enough for Victoria of Just Ridng right?? When we looked at his documents we noticed that actually he has quite good breeding which is what attracted us to him further.

Document Posted here below for anyone interested in breeding I know that loads of you are, so as you can see he has Oldenburg from his father and Kon Polski from his mum.

We didn't pay a lot of money for Ohio as he was practically unbroken, on a Polish passport and required complete investment in terms of training, nutrition and time so negotiation was in our favour, beside the fact that no one wanted him. Ohio has been such a pleasure to work with Herbert the chap who rides and trains him on a daily basis has done a fantastic job but also so fortunate to have a horse who is so willing to please and so brave.

We are now 2 years on with Ohio and he is producing many clear rounds at 1.20m and this weekend as I mentioned above he competed in his first 1.25m final. He is showing scope for 1.30m for next year he may even go to 1.40m we don't want to get to far ahead of ourselves but all I can say is we truly feel that we have found a diamond in the rough with Ohio... "Not bad for a horse that no one really wanted.. hehe" :-)

Again if you are a young aspiring horse rider and like the look of our young star, "Ohio" let us know and we will send you a photo of him for your wall.

MARKS MOMENT

O.K so Mark has been hassling me to contribute to the blog and so I agreed this time around, so without further ado this is Mark's moment.

Hello everyone. Sorry but this my first short article isn't going to be a funny or amusing, I'm just not in a funny or amusing mood this week. Perhaps next week. :-)

Firstly let me kick off this short article by saying that myself and I think I can speak on behalf of Just Riding are absolutely appalled at the latest terrorists incidents in London and Manchester. All of our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of and anyone involved in these terrible incidents. We are speaking at Just Riding about perhaps organising something to give to the fund which is raising money for those who have been injured or worse by these incidents, more to follow on this.

I wanted to talk about social media etiquette and bullying on social media or cyber bullying as it is called. For some reason and it escapes me as to why but we equestrians are so bloody horrible to one another. As part of my job I am constantly on facebook creating and adding posts to try and promote Just Riding and increase sales and if I had a pound for every anti something post or rant directed at a person or company I saw on social media I might even not have to work anymore. When someone makes a decision to take to social media and destroy someone or their business they should take a moment to think about the consequences of their actions and try to balance up the cause and effect of their actions before they do it.

Whilst I agree that social media can be useful in the event that someone is scamming others and word needs to be spread to avoid further victims. But if you saw the girl two boxes down skip a muck out that day or even twice that week. Does everyone and their friends, and their friends, friends and all of their friends need to know about it? do they really?

At Just Riding we have a stance as an absolute anti bullying organisation, our staff, suppliers, friends even our fellow retailers are all treated with respect and integrity. Victoria created the "Think Twice" campaign on social media to try and make people think twice before they trash another human being or their business on social media. If you agree please download the T2 banner below right here and share it on your social media. We have to start treating people with consideration and respect people, if we completely lose that what do we have left.

Thanks for listening.

#T2

PRODUCT LAUNCHES AND OTHER JR BUSINESS

I don't usually include any product related stuff in my posts but I want to start adding something related to new and trending products as after all that is what we do here at JRHQ, we sell equestrian products.

This year has seen a huge surge in sales of the Equine Body Bandage which is now being copied by a few companies and produced in China, we are pleased to confirm that we sell the original body bandage made 100% in Italy. Yes, there is a massive difference in quality between the Love Horses Original Body Bandage (Spur Guard) and the versions which are being made in China.

Animo Italia released their new saddle pads last month and I have to say they look absolutely amazing, in terms of quality and appearance they just look so nice. But then again this is Animo we are talking about and so we have come to expect this level of quality from this Italian industry leader.

Our own equestrian arch peak caps have been really popular already this summer, I believe we sold twice that of last years style already. The additional investment we made in terms of style and quality of the product seems to have really paid off.

Finally the big talking point on social media at the moment is our FREE GLOBAL SHIPPING on weekends. We will be running this offer for the duration June and possibly July and so far it has proven very successful with many of our clients taking advantage of the savings. We think this offer is probably our most awesome to date! what do you think?

NEW ARRIVALS IN JUST RIDING

This last month saw the departure of 2 of our staff which was a real shame as we have a family vibe at Just Riding and it was like losing 2 members of the family. Anna who worked on web administration and also Ola who worked in dispatch left the company. One to pursue a career and the other to concentrate on her impending exams.

However, after much interviewing I am so pleased to announce the arrival of Conrad and Kinga. Conrad will be filling the gap in web administration and Kinga will be working in dispatch but also helping a bit with social media. Kinga also rides horses which is obviously awesome for us Conrad is not a horse rider but never say never, right?

Updates to previous posts -

We never did get our fur trees back and so we are looking at buying some more to replace the 30 that were stolen.

We still don't have a roof on the stable but we are meeting with banks today to try and secure some assistance to get it on and refurbished before we lose the warm weather. If we can't get it done and lose the warm weather we will almost certainly lose the whole building to the harshness of the winter which simply cannot happen.

Crystal and Equador are still really fat, we are working on that with balanced nutrition from HOCOR feeds and supplements.

Most of you know that we try to source and stock the very best clothing and equipment from around the world, HOCOR is no exception. The product is unique in that unlike ALL of the top supplements on the market they use a patented form of natural yeast which yields particularly high amounts of high quality protein and amino acids. We can not recommend this professional supplement enough.

If you expect your horse to trot, canter, gallop, jump or perform in any sport he is by definition an athlete, athletes require supplements to be able to maintain health and performance.

We were super excited to receive our marketing packs from HOCOR this week which included branded saddle pads and ears.

Denis Lynch (IRL) and RMF Echo proved rounded off a successful day at the Longines Global Champions Tour of Hamburg after the top Irish rider took the Mercedes-Benz Championat trophy, and contributed to putting his Global Champions League team, Miami Glory, in pole position ahead of Saturday’s final.

Fending off the likes of Lauren Hough (USA) and Sanne Thijssen (NED), a delighted Denis said: “I have a very fast horse, I am experienced, and we had luck on our side today. My horse is really a fighter, who gives everything.”

In an electric 14-rider jump-off the Irish star wowed the thousands of fans who had packed into the grandstands and surrounding grassy banks to witness the very best international riders in action, enjoying the sunshine and thrilling top sport on display.

Frank Rothenberger set a true test for the world’s best in the picture-perfect grass arena; the time allowed of 80 seconds threw in a few upsets, with riders cutting corners to save time and consequently rolling poles. The penultimate fence featuring a solid-looking wall threw in a few spooks, with Maikel van der Vleuten (NED), rolling the pole on top and Jessica Springsteen (USA) having a scary moment with Cynar V.

The treble combination, featuring bright yellow poles with a fast six strides to the final element, and a double combination along the grandstand side which had the option of six or seven strides were the other most significant troublemakers, with many of the top combinations caught out. Top French riders Simon Delestre (FRA) and Julien Epaillard (FRA) both fell foul of the both, with big names such as Ludger Beerbuam (GER) with Chiara, Christian Ahlmann (GER) with Colorit, Marcus Ehning (GER) with Funky Fred and Ben Maher (GBR) all out of contention. Olympic silver medallist Peder Fredricson (SWE) looked set to join those through to the jump-off right up to the final oxer clipping the pole as the crowd groaned in disappointment.

Others also picked up costly time faults, with Sheikh Ali Bin Khalid Al Thani (QAT) with First Devision, Bertram Allen (IRL) with Hector van d’Abdijhoeve, Bassem Hassan Mohammed (QAT) with Gunder and John Whitaker (GBR) with Cassinis Chaplin all collecting one agonising time fault and ruling them out of the jump-off.

14 riders went through to the jump-off, with local rider Andreas Kreuzer (GER) and Cavilot leading the field in the galloping course, and a further three German athletes in the mix. The turn back to fence three would be the telling turn, with long distances and the possibility of taking a stride out to the final fence. First to go clear was Martin Fuchs (SUI) with his grew horse Clooney 51, setting the time to beat at 40.21s.

Denis Lynch (IRL) and relatively new mount RMF Echo put in a blistering performance to stop the clock in 40.21s, with the brave chestnut leaping the fences and galloping boldly across the grass arena. The Irishman set the precedent, putting the pressure on the rest of the field to come - Olivier Philippaerts (BEL) and Ikker were forced into an error at the turn back to the penultimate fence, rolling the pole and dropping them out of position. Similarly, Daniel Bluman (ISR) and Ladriano Z had the first pole down, with the pressure too much for the combination, and home hero Janne-Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann (GER) clipped the wall with Goja.

It looked as though poles would continue to roll, as Jack Hardin Towell (USA) and Lucifer V took out the first part of the double combination, until Lauren Hough (USA) with Ohlala put in a valiant performance, jumping clear but just shy of Denis’ time in 40.70s. Lauren’s little firecracker of a mare jumped her heart out for her rider, but took 8 strides to the final, slipping them to 2nd overall.

The huge striding Don VHP Z flew around the course, turning in air with Harrie Smolders (NED) perfectly balancing the tall horse and looking strong to be with a chance of the win. But a slip before the penultimate fence cost them time, and the stunning liver chestnut stallion just took out the front part of the oxer. Scott Brash (GBR) and Hello Forever set off at a gallop, living dangerously with the enigmatic chestnut gelding leaping to the fences. Pushing for time, the pair took out the back rail of the GCL penultimate oxer, and down into fifth overall. The penultimate fence caused further drama still, after young German rider Laura Klaphake (GER) and Silverstone G were caught out on the turn back, crashing through and keeping them away from the top spot.

Young Dutch star Sanne Thijssen (NED) and Con Quidam Rb put in a stunning try, full of bravery and keeping the crowd on the edge of their seats as they flew around the arena. The pair look 41.85s overall, meaning Denis Lynch (IRL) would claim the top spot, including a brand new Mercedes-Benz car.

Tomorrow will see the €62,000 CSI5* class kick off at 18:00 local time, ahead of Saturday’s Global Champions League final and the Longines Global Champions Grand Prix of Hamburg, which takes place at 16:00 local time.

2 New Additions, Missing Fur Trees & Build Update

Wow... I wanted to write a blog / vlog / thing whatever they are called! (yeah in case you haven't noticed I am a horse rider not a social media guru) around twice a week but have you ever tried to make time to do something like that?!? I mean gathering "inspiration" is bad enough when you are running after two kids under 7, running the business and dealing with missing fur trees and people throwing rabbits. (more on that later) I remember being young and having inspiration and artistic motivation oozing out of me from the moment I woke up until the moment I went to sleep. Where did that go? what happened to my MOJO?!? I blinked and got old and seemed to have miss placed my MOJO!! lol

Anyway I digress as usual.. so these last 3/4 weeks have been slow, the spring wanted to come then didn't want to come then came again, then didn't... arrrrgggh!! which kind of left me feeling like I had started the race but then realised I had forgotten to take my yard boots off... two steps forward, three steps back if you know what I mean. Finally, this last week has been full of sunshine and we managed to get some things done on the yard and also inherited 2 new additions in the form of a horse and a pony. They are respectively called Equador and Crystal not our choices they had the names when they arrived. So without further a do here they are standing in our brand new paddock which we are super pleased with.

Who ate all the pies, who ate all the pies.... lol Yep, Crystal needs to lay of the grass somewhat. :-)

These lovelies had been staying across the road from us with a local village character who had been enjoying them as pets but didn't ride and also didn't have a lot of time to do anything at all with them. The facilities they were in weren't ideal, the boxes were kind a home made and very deep the horses had to step down about 2 feet to get into them and the drainage not sufficient. Anyway long story short we offered to take them both which we have. Here is a photo below of both Crystal and Equador they have been with us for about a week and a half now and I have them on HOCOR Complete and HOCOR Regen which is literally a miracle supplement and also HOCOR natural feeds which unfortunately are only available in Europe presently. In the 10 or so days they have been with us the improvements are huge and visually noticeable particularly with Equador.

We are thinking due to the current and continued financial pressures of getting a new roof on the stable we might book in some adult riding lessons on Equador as he is very easy and loves mooching around the arena in walk/trot. We already have our own horses contributing to their upkeep in the same way and are thinking that this could be a great way to help with the re build and also to pay for improvements to the facilities so all parties benefit. We shall see and I will keep you updated on what we decided and perhaps if we do go in that direction also upload a few videos to keep things interesting. :-)

On this subject we wanted to give a little shout out to one of our awesome customers Geraldine Fitzgerald who donated to our project to rebuild... we really, really, really, really appreciate it!!

Now on to "Missing Fur Trees" Have a look at this awesomely professional video "lol" made by me courtesy of samsung mobile phone. Notice anything odd...

SERIOUSLY THOUGH, someone actually came onto the yard and pulled up 30 of our little fur trees and made off with them. I mean we only paid around £1.50 for each one 2 years ago and at the height they are now they go for around £5 each, that's a £150 ($200) kick in the groin we really didn't need! what is wrong with people?!?

I said I would try to keep you guys up to date on our stable rebuild, I wont go over the whole thing again because most of you have read about it already but if you are here and reading our blog for the first time.. long story short our stable burned down nearly 2 years ago and we got stuffed on the insurance and so we have been trying to get it back to it's former glory bit by bit and with help here and there from friends, family and a Just Riding customer or two.

Many of our customers contacted me after I posted the video of the fire and were super supportive and so nice. So I said I would try to post little updates here and there when I have a spare few minutes to write something or take a picture or two.

So the update is that we still dont have a roof, although we have had a couple of quotes and have found the best possible price so at least now we have a financial target.

However, we have done some pretty cool "other stuff" on the yard, we put up a big paddock on what we thought was unusable ground for grazing, after 4 years of care, treatment and rest the work we did on it has paid off and the ground is so nice we are really pleased and looking forward to having that extra bit of turn out for the guys and girls. We also managed to replace the small fence around the play area which wasn't in a good way and put down some more bark on the play area itself. Inside we haven't managed to do anything more than when I last posted. We tried to plaster some of the walls but without the roof, even though we now have a good concrete ceiling the plaster became very damp and just fell off.. so we wasted money and time, lesson learned. We will start to repair the inside once the roof is on.

Photo's here below of the little fence.. small steps.. etc. :-)

Well I think that sums up our 2 new additions, missing fur trees and a bit about the build. I will try to get on again in a week or so, knowing me it will probably be 4 weeks again... but hey ho, I will try.

As always my heartfelt thanks to all Just Riding customers for your continued and loyal support for our family run business without you guys we would just be a website with some pretty pictures of clothing... :-) xxx

Extra Update: I'm not sure if any of you read my previous blog post about the little pony who just appeared on our yard one day, well unfortunately despite our best efforts in screening the owner who we released him back to we heard that he has recently been removed from her "care" by the local authorities.

Apparently neighbors had called the authorities when they spotted the lady throwing rabbits around her field! Yeah, you heard correctly... "throwing rabbits" needless to say that lucky (named by us because he wondered into our yard and was treated like royalty for a month) has now been re homed and we are assured that the new owners are not in the least bit interested in using animals as any form of projectile, which is always good we think. :-/

Seriously though all joking aside if anyone witnesses anyone doing any such things please report immediately to your local animal welfare office, rspca etc. Thank You. :-)

Global Champions Tour (Madrid) Teams Announced

Star strikers out in force as GCL Madrid Team riders revealed

With just a few days to go until the Global Champions League of Madrid kick starts the European segment of the 2017 Championship, the team riders for Round One can today be revealed. With rivalry and tactics fierce, the 18 teams are calling serious strategy into play for the fourth leg of the Championship.

Scott Brash will join his team Miami Glory among a whole host of other Animo Italia sponsored riders. We of course will be rooting for Scott and any other Animo associated riders this year.

Reigning Champions Valkenswaard United will bring star striker Marcus Ehning to Spain, with the top German rider bringing a history of success at the gorgeous Club de Campo Villa de Madrid after a Grand Prix win in 2016. Alongside him will be team anchor, top Italian rider Alberto Zorzi, who has competed at every leg of the Championship so far this season. Snapping at their heels in the overall Ranking battle are the London Knights, who bring in U25 Emily Moffitt alongside experienced Mexican rider Enrique Gonzalez, who debuted for the team in Mexico City. St Tropez Pirates will return to a proven combination, with best friends Jérôme Guéry and Simon Delestre re-uniting for this round of action, and hoping to return to form after their gut-wrenching result in Shanghai where they looked set to win the event, until it unravelled in the final round.

The huge grass arena of Club de Campo Villa de Madrid will throw in a new challenge to the teams, after the tight square Shanghai set up suited the smaller, more agile horses quick on their feet. Galloping distances and wide open spaces mean the teams had to think carefully about which horses and riders would be best suited to the fourth leg of the Championship. With the option to change horses and riders between rounds, all eyes will be on the first round of action to see how the sport plays out, with teams vying for pole position and the advantage of going last in round two.

2016 GCL Madrid winners, the Rome Gladiators will bring back Laura Kraut who was one half of the winning combination last year. This time, the top American rider will be teaming up with Lorenzo de Luca, the young Italian star making a big impression on the show jumping circuit so far. Home team, Madrid in Motion will field their U25 Spanish star, Gonzalo Anon Suarez alongside Dutch Champion Maikel van der Vleuten, with the pair combining forces for the first time on home turf and looking for a strong result in front of their local fans. Tens of thousands of visitors flock to the venue every year to witness their heroes in action, contributing to an electric atmosphere as passionate spectators enjoy top sport and world class entertainment.

Heavy-weight German riders Ludger Beerbaum and Marco Kutscher will be out in force again for the Cannes Stars, and Miami Glory will field new recruit Denis Lynch alongside team anchor Scott Brash for the first time this season. Local fans will have plenty to cheer for as Spanish rider Sergio Alvarez Moya debuts the GCL for the first time with his team, Chantilly Pegasus, teaming up with U25 American rider Lucy Davis. Another brand new combination will be Vienna Eagles’ Emanuel Andrade and Kerry Mc Cahill, with the pair both taking their first start this season. Consistent duo Sheikh Ali Bin Khalid Al Thani and Bassem Hassan Mohammed will be back for Doha Fursan Qatar and Cascais Charms follow suit with their winning combination of David Will and Andreas Kreuzer.

Audrey Coulter will also make a return to the Hamburg Diamonds, teaming up with trainer Harrie Smolders, and young Dutch talent Kevin Jochems will be returning to his first CSI5* following serious injury last year, teaming up with Michael Kearins for the Moscow Bears. The Mexico Amigos will continue their strategy, with Christian Ahlmann and Henrik von Eckermann teaming up for their second consecutive event, and Daniel Deusser will unite with U25 rider Alexandra Thornton for the first time this season for the Shanghai Swans.

Fresh from their success in Shanghai, the Paris Panthers will keep Jack Hardin Towell up front for the team, this time adding new U25 star Lillie Keenan into the mix for her first event on the Championship race. The Monaco Aces will also test out new recruit Pieter Devos alongside long-term Ace Daniel Bluman, and the Berlin Lions will be looking fierce with Gerco Schroder and Ales Opatrny taking up the mantle for the team.

The first round of action will take place this Friday 19th May, with the first horse and rider entering the ring at 17:30. The teams will fight for pole position, with faults carried through to Saturday’s final which takes centre stage at 15:30 local time. All the action can be viewed via GCL TV, with expert commentary, in-depth analysis and exclusive studios.

Rescue No.2 - That is a funny looking Pony?!

OK so it's not a pony... we cant rescue cute Ponies every week just to satisfy your need for looking at a cuddly, scrummy pony!

So a few months ago we were all working away in our offices at JR HQ when one of the girls shouted Awwwww!! Poor Thing!! Now, as many of you know "Awwwww!! Poor Thing!" is effective code for everyone in the entire office to jump up and run to where he or she thinks the "poor thing" might be. I don't know know if it is horsey people in general but anything involving an animal and the words "Awwww, Poor Thing" and it's like someone lit a fire under them. "What Poor thing? Where is it?!?"

In this case the "poor thing" in question was a little dog absolutely soaked through, shivering cold and wondering around outside the office having been dumped on the roadside. (sadly a common occurrence in our road which backs onto woodland) So I ran outside and called the little guy over, he wasn't keen initially but he came over and I gently picked him up. He was filthy, wet and cold and stunk of something not of this world. He was a little thin but actually not to bad. I looked over at the office window which was by now full of Just Riding staff...OK I said I'm taking him in doors to get warmed up and have something to eat.

OK so I am waffling.. Cue the "poor thing", here he is...

Unfortunately we don't have a photo of him on the actual day we brought him in from outside, we think we might have one somewhere but are rummaging through thousands of images to fine it, If I do I'll post it on here.

So I took him home which is conveniently close to the office and got him clean, dried and fed. He was so good, just stood there while I washed him down in the shower.. ate so much food then passed out.

Bathtime.. we put Bonnie our cavalier in with him for reassurance.

The kids came home that afternoon to find our family plus 1 dog (we already have a rotty who lives out and a cavalier who lives in) I made it quite clear to the kids and other half that I would be looking for a good home for him as we couldn't possibly take another dog on...

So during the weeks that followed "Stefan" as he was now called started to kind of blend into our life, we had a couple of upsets in the first couple of weeks which our spaniel helped him to sort out. We also took him down to our local vet to have him neutered as we felt this was the "responsible" thing to do for him and it also helps with them not spraying and humping everything in sight. I mean he literally humped everything when we first brought him into our home, lets put it this way.. the cat was not impressed.

Stefan here below post op... all inoculations done, micro-chipped and sorted.

The days and weeks rolled by and I seemed to try less and less to find a home for Stefan the more he seemed to blend into our lives. He is such a clever little boy, Oh I forgot to mention the vet said he was only just over a year old roughly the same as our cavalier.

I have a funny story about the first trip to the vet, I asked my husband to take me and we went into the room to speak with the vet about Stefan. In the days running up to this appointment for some reason my husband had convinced himself that Stefan was some kid of pedigree breed.

He said in an authoritative way (as husbands do) that the under bite he had looked like he was a pedigree of some kind., he was sure if it. So he said to the Vet "Excuse me is he a pedigree of some kind because I noticed his bottom teeth underbite the top row and I have seen this before on a pedigree breed." (I'm thinking British Bull Dog) the vet turns trying to be as gentle as possible.. errrm, No. The underbite is a defect of mixed breeding! I looked at my husband and LOL alot!!

So Stefan is somewhat "special", that's all good he'll fit right into this family.

Months have rolled on an I gave up on finding a home for him, he has become a real part of Just Riding and our family, he is in the office everyday the girls love him and so do my kids. It took a few weeks for Bonnie our Cavalier to accept that she wasn't the princess of the castle anymore and that she had to share her space with this new dog. It was a classic lady and tramp scenario, he tried so hard to win her over and she was having none of it. This is Bonnie below when we told her that Stefan the street dog was staying..

Not Impressed...

Since his arrival they started to get more and more attached and now around 4 months on from when we first found him they are inseparable I actually cant remember our life without him. I think to myself often, who could have dumped such a awesome little dude next to the road.. I can only imagine someone thought they were getting something else and when he started to grow they realised he was a bit of a special mix and dumped him, who knows? but their loss is definitely our gain in this case.

Bonnie and Stefan Below Sharing a bed..

Bonnie - "He is telling the story about when he was a street dog.... AGAIN!"

Treats for the gang, the Cat always wins...

Stefan has turned out to be such an awesome dog, he is very clever and really independent. He is still a bit delicate with raised voices, men and quick movements even at home he will head for the door if someone shouts. But we are getting there slowly but surely.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed our story about Stefan our new addition, I know it's not a Pony or a horse.. maybe next time! :-)

Last photo here is Stefan sleeping with my daughter who he adores, yes they are both actually asleep like this.

I simply had to add this video which was taken a few days ago, my daughter and Stefan in the front garden... Apparently he likes it.

Pony Rescue No.1 - Lucky

Now this is just plain weird! seriously, I was writing the article about the fire at our place and that it had set us back with our plans for the rescue and re-homing side of the business. Anyway, as I stand here before you hand on heart my phone bleeped and I looked down at an incoming whatsapp message I opened it up and there appeared to be a black dog that looked soaked stood in the middle of a field. No, it wasn't a dog and it wasn't any old field. It was a tiny black pony and it was my field!

So I messaged back wth is that? thinking an unauthorized pony purchase had taken place.. on the contrary no one bought him this guy had wondered through a forest which borders our place and into one of the paddocks with my two boys (who crapped their pants) he then proceeded to trot between paddocks under the bottom rail of the fences.

He was eventually caught and Herbert who works on the yard said he was in a bit of a state with parasites and very bad hooves.. he had apparently crossed a river to get in with the other horses. We separated him off and started to call around the yards we knew, no one literally no one had lost a pony. How odd, in the 30 years I have worked with or been around horses this has never happened.

Later that I went down to the yard and gave him some apples and other norty treats and checked him out, I called my vet straight away as he did need some attention and also I wanted to be on the safe side, I also called the local councils department for strays etc and a welfare place locally. None had received any reports that a pony had gone walkabout.

That evening the vet came out and powdered him with stuff to get rid of the lice and other nasty things, checked his teeth all the usual stuff, it turned out he is around 2 years old.

The council and vets said as there was no chip wait around 2 weeks and if no one reports or claims him just chip him and put him on a passport yourself. So we waited and no one has come forward. We chipped him and got him a passport, his new name is LUCKY. (I know not completely original but my 5 year old named him, and lets face it he is lucky wondering onto my place I have sucker for ponies written across my forehead)

So week 3 and he is much better, we cant get to his feet yet to sort them out but he has been treated for everything else, a few trust exercises over the coming weeks and we'll get to his feet and sort them out to.

What a lunatic pony this is, seriously green as anything behave as though he never saw a person before, so funny the first time put him on a lead he just started bucking bronco all around me.. he is so tiny I have a dog bigger than him and when he puts his full stallion attitude on it is rather hilarious.

Week four and he has really settled in we made a miniature paddock but miss judged the little fences and he just jumps out, he is fascinated with show jumping.. when we are training on the big horses he comes running over and watches, so funny. The other horses like him and so do the kids.

Getting to know the human gang.. he is very shy not just head shy but all around shy. But we will work with him and he'll come right. He would make a great little grooming pony for a club or something..

If I rear up surely I'll be as big as you are... ermmm, no.

Week four and I received a phone call today from a lady who I know who says that she knows whose Pony it is, can you believe it 4 weeks after it went walkabouts!! Anyway I said that I would need to speak with her as I had concerns over the Ponies condition when it found ITS OWN WAY to my yard.

Spoke with the owner and although she had no passport and no chip, after answering several questions I am assured that she is the rightful owner. It is a weird one sometimes when you "rescue" a horse or a pony you want to find either a new home or the rightful home for the animal, but sometimes there is a nagging voice in your head telling it would be better off with you. :-( but I cant keep them all. After a few meetings and some long conversations with this "non horsey" owner of the pony I am confident that he is going to be alright. She paid me back the vet fees which is a bonus..

So that brings this little saga to an end, I look forward to posting details of the next one on our blog for you guys to follow.

Stable Development - Building the dream...

In late 2015 Just Riding had been trading for a few years and so with profits from the business and ALL of our savings we commenced with our quest to build our own stables.

I think it is most horse owners dream to have their own place to keep their beloved horses and we are no different. We had and still have big plans for Just Riding Stables the first plan was to create a base for the business close to the horses, the second was to create a building and facilities that could accommodate the horses we rescue so that we could give them a comfortable temporary home in which they could feel safe, be well looked after, re schooled if necessary and eventually re homed.

Aside from our Brand Ambassadors program we had always wanted to build somewhere that we could use to rescue and re-home abused or unwanted horses. We managed to secure a deal on a very old stable and some surrounding land through my family. The stable was water tight, well mostly..but in need of a lot of work to bring it up to the standard we wanted it at and make it a habitable place for horses. After all it wasn't all about rescuing horses this would double up as our family getaway, a place for the children to play in and enjoy as well.

2016 came along and with it super exciting times, we commenced on site and made the first cut in the land for the schooling arena.

The days and weeks rolled by with work on the build really steaming along, powered by me.. I was on site everyday! I am sure the builders loved that! lol

Here below is a gallery of images which shows how the development progressed over the following months, we found that our plan changed around 20 times as we moved forward the builders would come up with improvements and ideas which we always loved and of course agreed to. The problem is with working like this, sure you end up with the exact washroom you wanted and the toilets in the barn itself instead of outside but when the bills start coming in for these "extras" ouch!

Around 5 months on and you can really see the changes in this video from what was the old building to what is becoming the new. The guys were working tirelessly, we still hadn't secured the site with regards to perimeter fencing and so still no horses on site at this point.

These are the last few pictures towards the end of the year, the outstanding tradesmen we had employed had successfully and almost completely renovated and rejuvenated what was a completely outdated mess of a building. We could not have been happier.

My two favourite places was the wash bay created from nothing, tiled and looking stunning and the tack room which lead into the new office. I could not believe that from a room that was used for keeping pigs in at one time, something so beautiful could be created.

One of the proudest moments of my life hanging the canvas picture on the wall of my grandfather who originally owned this building 50 years ago, one on photo he is standing one foot on each horse. He had horses in his blood like me.

A few days after completion the horses had been moved in, we were already using the yard as a valuable place for outdoor play with the kids and had cleared a space and thrown down some wood chipping for the much anticipated play area. Which arrived a few days after this photo below was taken.

The two rescue kittens we had taken in where happy and content, life was good and everything seemed to be going in the right direction. We had taken one young horse on to train and we had already started to look for rescue cases that required our help.

One late summer afternoon we were all at the yard, there were even a few tradesmen finishing off a few bits and pieces. I was washing off a horse with another rider, the guys were tinkering with the wi-fi in the office, kids were running around and the music was playing.. the weather and the atmosphere at the stable was just perfect. You know when sometimes you wish you could just cut a piece of time out and keep it forever well for me this was a time like that.

To some it might not look like much but to me it was perfection and I had my slice of paradise and I was looking forward to doing so much...

I posted this happy photo on Instagram and wrote "LIFE IS GREAT !!!"

We heard the children screaming first and I thought they were playing, but I then realised that something wasn't right. 5 seconds later I heard the word I think any stable owner fears the most... "Fire!!"

We immediately ran up to the hay loft to see how bad it was but it was way too late, the flames at the far end of the building where our new building attached to the old one were as tall as the roof itself and spreading so fast there was no chance to do anything other than to get everyone out and release the horses. A few guys tried in vain to use a garden hose to slow the spread but it was absolutely hopeless. We were blessed that everyone from the surrounding houses came running over as soon as they saw the smoke and started to grab everything and anything and dump it outside on the paddock. Within 10 minutes there was a huge pile of saddles, bridles, computer bits, furniture.. everything that was inside that could be moved was now outside.

We all stood in shock and watched 12 months of work and the last 10 years of savings go up in flames.. utterly powerless and utterly devastated.

Here is a short video which shows the sheer ferocity and scale of the fire.

The following photos are still today a little difficult for us to look at, some people might be thinking. What? it's only a building, but to me this "building" was the realisation of a lifelong dream. I had against difficult odds brought a building back to life that had once belonged to my grandfather who passed away just before I was born. Call me a romantic but I loved the notion of that!

The scale of the damage mostly from the gallons of water the fire service poured into the building is devastating. The fire destroyed the upstairs and the water destroyed the downstairs. In fact so much water (9 fire engines) was poured into the building that the concrete ceiling was found to be structurally unsound afterwards. #tackroomsdontmakegoodswimmingpools

Our new crisp white ceilings, a few days later they just started to fall into the building.

After the fire we found one kitten but his brother was missing for a while, we feared the worse. This was the final twist of the knife as far as we were concerned it was horrible news that we really did not need. As the guys that worked on the yard started to clear the rubble and fire damaged hay and equipment we received a call to say they had found the other kitten, alive!

The poor little thing had actually singed his whiskers they were all curled up, it shows how close to the heat he must have been, one very lucky kitten and at least 8 of the 9 lives used up for sure I reckon. In an odd way this news lifted us a bit, a small triumph out of what was a hideous time.

We had been knocked down by what had happened but with horses and other creatures we were responsible for we got stuck into clearing up and assessing what needed to be done. It is at times like this that you find out who your friends are.. some of them even turned up to help with cleaning up and just offering to do whatever they could. Like Bishu in the photo below who literally threw himself into the soot and muck for two days we wont ever forget that.

We worked quickly to isolate 3 outdoor boxes and a room which was largely unaffected by either fire or water to store feed, we put up a tent for the hay and moved some horses to friends. The others that we could keep at the yard we did.

The roof had to come down and unfortunately the entire ceiling as it had been deemed to be unsafe. Our two handy men who had been working odd jobs at the stables for me tore down the entire roof and the ceiling, along with my Dad and some friends. I was speechless at how they all worked so hard on that building for me.

When I saw this after a few weeks of the guys working on the stables I truly wanted to throw in the towel and walk away, we were actually in a worse situation than we were when we started the renovation of the old building, at least then we had a roof. I think this was one of many moments where curling up into a ball in the corner was definitely an option.

Work has continued on the yard and we now have a ceiling but no roof, we have to get a roof on the building this year it isn't an option not to, because if we don't the winter will completely destroy the building. I am determined to make this happen this year, hopefully with the support and loyalty of our Just Riding customers your continued business will make this possible.

The inside where the boxes are located is rubble but we are working slowly to restore it, the tack room below seen in the photos above have not been touched, the plasterboard all has to come off and replaced and repainted which we have not yet done.

25/02/17 -

There isn't much else to add at this stage, right now we have been developing this new website and invested in new brands, attending shows with the shop and moving forward.

The stables are being worked on currently but on a drip payment basis, basically it works like this...If we have a reasonable week on Justriding.com we put up some plasterboard or lay some bricks, or buy some materials for the roof. Everything we had went into the first renovation of the building and so it has to be this way for now.

We wont be deterred from realising our dream, every time I think about quitting I just have to look at my smiling face on that horse on the last instagram post I made before the fire.

In the words of the amazing Nelson Mandella "A winner is a dreamer who never gives up"

Animo Riding Boots... Talking bout my ger, ger generation!!

Who? exactly.. for those of you not as ancient as my self you wont understand a thing about what I just wrote, having said that who am I to assume perhaps you are all cultured music lovers who know exactly who, The Who are!?

The new generation of horse riding boots from Animo Italia are more than worth a look they are tipped to be the next huge thing in the world of riding boots and recent sales and the trends on social media suggest all the assumptions are correct, I mean come on even Madonna is instagramming herself in Animo!!

So in our last article we touched on the fact that Animo were now creating their riding boots entirely in house and this has proven massive in their move away from the first generation boots and into the latest designs which are simply beautiful. The calf skin is some of the finest calf skin leather, sourced in Italy and conditioned specifically for use on riding boots. The soles are the same as most hand made / made to measure boots use, they are glued and stitched vibram soles, even the zippers are YKK the best zippers in the world. The insides are lined with a softer calf skin leather and the inner soles are also leather lined. There has literally been no expense spared in the making of these boots, from the point of origin to the place of production quality runs through these boots like a vein of gold through an Alaskan mountainside.

It is unsurprising that we are seeing super stylish and super talented young riders such as Jessica Mendoza, Jo Clee and Mario Stevens wearing Animo Riding Boots, I have a feeling that we are going to see many more of the worlds top riders favouring Animo boots in 2017.

In a previous article I wrote about the state of riding boots today, in regards to the longevity and durability of the boot itself. I told you about the use of calf skin and importance of country of origin and conditioning of this ultra soft skin. I can not stress the importance of this enough, because calf skin is so naturally soft that it must be worked and handled correctly in the earlier preparation stages in order for it to provide a completely balanced solution. Too soft and sure your foot will feel like it is in a slipper for a few months but you will more than likely be shopping for a new pair within a year, particularly if you ride a few horses a day, Too hard and its blisters for weeks possibly longer and lack of flexibility in the boot which is paramount for riding. It must be just right, and given that I have tested the new generation of Animo for a good few weeks now I can honestly say with hand pressed firmly to heart that they hit the nail on the head with these models. They are soft yet durable, rigid yet flexible... I am so pleased with mine.

The only down side with Animo's new generation of riding boots is not a negative for you, but more a negative for Animo... if as I suspect their boots are going to last for years and years, there will be little need to replace them and so what then?? I think to be honest, I will be buying my next pair of Animo boots out of an obsession for the latest trends and styles rather than necessity.

I can almost hear you all saying, really?!? Yes, I am afraid so.. I own the Zody field boots which I am delighted with and now I see they have released the new Z10 with crystals actually embedded into the toe cap decoration.. I have never seen that before on any boot and so yes, I think I will be treating myself again this year! But isn't it nice to do it because you want to, not because you have to? :-)

Without further a do here are a selection of the new generation of riding boots from Animo for 2016/17.

On the left we have Animo Zody field boots or laced competition boots the most popular boot presently and on the right Animo Zen a ladies dress boot without laces.

Here below we have ZOK a dress boot for men (without laces)

If you are looking for something with a bit of sparkle and glamour then look no further than the Z10 tall boots embellished with crystals in the toe cap decoration or the ZINIA/17 short boots also lined with Crystal.

You will notice the beautiful ZARA unisex mini chaps in the background on the photo above, a perfect accompaniment to the stunning ZINIA boots. They are also a great combination with the two boots here below. ZAMBIA the ladies short boots and ZEUS the short boot for men, classic timeless style.

Introducing the latest offering from Parlanti the KK Boot or K Boot as some people are calling them. Professional riders seem to be seeking comfort of classical styling, certainly in 2016 we have seen this more and more with increased sales of Parlanti's K Komfy short boot and Ocala the tall general purpose boot which we like to refer to as a cross over boot because you can ride 5 horses a day in them, give them a polish and look perfectly respectable on the weekend.

Well these are the replacements for Ocala, and we are not disappointed!

First of all the boots are incredibly comfortable with increased use of buffalo leather and elastic stretch panels to ensure both durability and fit to the riders leg and foot. The exclusive B-Flex rubber sole and two elastic inserts will provide the best fit you could hope for. KK-BOOTS are the ultimate in lightness and comfort. They are both beautiful and durable.

Riding Boots Lasting the Distance & Buying in 2017...

We have been selling riding boots well pretty much since cows started eating grass, it's quite a long time ago..

We have invested in a few riding boot brands over the years, some have stuck and some have not. The one factor that always and I mean always plays a key role in the rise or demise of a horse riding boot, and that is QUALITY. Quite simply if your boots are cheaply made even with all the best marketing in the world the company will have their glory year or two and then the warranty claims will start to come thicker than the new sales and bang, the company is drowning and twelve months later its goodnight sweetheart... thanks for the memories. So, now that I have depressed everyone...lol onto the in's and out's of it all.

What I said earlier is actually true, remember those custom Konigs you bought in 2006, the ones you polished last week (in 2016) and rode out on? sadly the days of finding boots built like they used to make them are dwindling into the non existent, because the demand for a more comfortable, more technical and more aesthetically pleasing boot has exceeded the ability to produce them. We live in a time where trends are now hashtagged and become global in seconds, not even hours or days! Gangnam style was released and within 300 seconds it had already trended as a global hashtag and people were going crazy about it, an hour later and the guy was ordering his first Lamborghini. So when the "right" people start hashtagging, blogging, faecbooking, Instagramming... blah, blah, etc about a new pair of riding boots then people start to ask questions. What's this all about? "Everyone" is raving about them... and then the golden question "Where can I get a pair?"

Something I hear often from our customers is, how come my old boots I bought in 2000 are still going and this new pair I paid $1000 for only 12 months ago are starting to fall apart. The answers to this questions fall across a couple of different categories. The first is, It is your fault! Now that may sound strange but let me explain..

Remember the days when you used to buy a new pair of riding boots and it would take 3 or 4 weeks to wear them in, you would be there every night rubbing the Vaseline into the back of the heel, using a warm wet sponge on the outside of the leather.. wearing them in your house wondering around your kitchen in your nightie and pair of riding boots. I remember it well, we had to do that because the boots were pure hell, they carved up the backs of our heels like fresh ham on a sharpened cheese grater. In fact I think some of the boots I bought in the past may well have had cheese graters inside them, stitched into the back of the heel.

But, and this is the big but.. it was all worth it in the end because these boots eventually molded to your feet and only your feet and you ended up with a pair of boots that slipped over your feet like a satin glove over a royal hand. Which brings me onto one of the reasons why we now have boots that don't last because a few of us just couldn't handle wearing riding boots with our nighties anymore, they didn't want to wait 4 weeks or more for their new boots to fit them, they had no patience or acceptance of the fact that their heels would be grated for the weeks proceeding the purchase of a shiney new pair of boots and they started to whine about it. Not only did they start to complain about the boots rubbing them they also started to complain about having to pay $1500+ for a pair of custom made to measure boots. So, inevitably the manufacturers stated to look at what they could do to meet the market demand.

They needed boots which did not cost as much and did not require wearing in, and so manufacturers started to explore using calf skin for the leather uppers and mass producing them as apposed to making them by hand. Now using calf skin for the leather uppers in riding boots is absolutely fine but you also have to remember that there are over 10 different ways to tan leather. They range from using vegetable products, Formaldehyde and even the oils from animals brains.. yes, you read correctly I said animal brains but this is a rare procedure. I am not going to get into the finer details of the preparation of leather all I will say is that there are three main stages which are preparatory stages, tanning, and crusting and within these stages in particular crustings which is the process that thins, retans, and lubricates leather there are around 20 possible options including the addition of colour.

So just simply using Calf Skin will give you a soft boot of course, but the process in which the calf skin has been made and the country of origin of the leather will almost certainly determine the life expectancy of the boot.

I think and this is just my opinion, that in the pursuit to produce the most comfortable boots to meet the highest demand manufacturers have overlooked durability. Using the cheapest conditioning methods on the calf skin will reduce the final cost of the leather and also speed up the process of producing the calf skin. Using this type of conditioned calf skin for the uppers in the first place as apposed to regular cattle skin or buffalo will produce an "instant" comfort for the consumer but at what cost people?! Sure you'll slide your foot into your new boot jump up on your horse, run around the barn for a few hours and be delighted at the fact that you don't have a blister in sight, but in 8 or 12 months when your calf has worn its way through the side of your boot or the soles have peeled off how delighted are you going to be?

It is a delicate issue for the consumer, of course some wont mind replacing their $1000 boots every 12 months but most of the riders that I have spoken to aren't going to be overly happy about it.

The New K Boots from Parlanti are becoming a popular choice due to their durability and comfort, they are made from conditioned buffalo leather.

My final opinion on purchasing riding boots in 2017. Don't rush into buying a pair of boots just because they feel soft, by all means you should consider calf skin but be aware of the company that is manufacturing the boots. Where the boots are really made and the origin of the calf skin used in the boots, most retailers will provide you with this information if you ask them. If you stand the new boots up in front of you and they sag over to one side something is not right, calf skin is soft but they should stand proud and firm when new. Look at the soles of the boots, stitched and glued vibram soles are used by the best boot makers in the world and this is a sure sign of a quality finish.

Animo Zody Semi Custom Field Boots are made from the finest Italia calf skin, feedback on these boots is hugely positive. They are calf skin lined and they have glued and stitched vibram soles. These boots are made to last, 100% in Italy.

If your boots rub you when they are new then so be it, it probably means they are well made and will end up lasting you many years just get the vaseline out and rub a little on the inside of the heel and buy yourself some compeed patches. Don't going running out for a new pair of boots. Another tip for 2017 if you ride a lot of horses is to look out for boots made from Buffalo leather it is much tougher than calf skin and will last much, much longer. Once it has been worn in; Buffalo leather boots will fit your foot like a glove.

Tucci Marilyn Dress Boots, we have seen an increase in sales in the Marliyn model by Tucci in 2016, there is no denying that this Italian made boot is one of the most beautiful boots by appearance. This coupled with the use of fine Italian leather and you have a recipe for a stunning all round riding boot.

Animo Riding Boots | A Beautiful Proposition

And so this year marks the year where Animo Italia seem to have really thrown themselves in the equestrian riding boot market. This year we can see at least 4 new ladies models of boots including a casual cross over boot as well as 2 new mens models but we will get onto that in a moment.

Lets talk about the new designs of these Animo Italia Riding Boots and the phenomenal quality of these new models. As many of our customers may know Animo first released boots a couple of years ago choosing to partner with established Italian boot maker De Niro, as we also know the whole thing just didn't quite gel the feedback we had on the boots wasn't as good as we had hoped for. I personally think the issue was this, Animo's design and style influence comes from one person, some might say a creative genius I would tend to agree.. when you start throwing other influences into what is essentially a one man machine I don't think it works well.

So the new range is made 100% by Animo Italia in house at their headquarters in sleepy Bassano Del Grappa, Italy and wow!! can you see the difference! I mean seriously these new boots are something else! The entire feel and general aesthetics of the boots has changed, they are in my opinion the closest you would come to perfection in a ready to wear riding boot right now.

The Animo Riding Boots for Ladies consist of 4 tall boots, 1 paddock boot and 1 casual cross over. Respectively they are Animo ZOE, Animo ZAMI and Animo ZICO in the tall boots and Animo ZAMBIA in the paddock boot.

The new casual cross over boot for Ladies named Animo ZEIT come in 3 colours Blue, Brown or Black and are decorated with metal studs which flow around the contours of the boots and across the toes. These are a statement of beauty and I defy anyone not to fall in love with them at first sight.

The men are attended to with a Tall Boot and Ankle Boot, The Animo ZEPPELIN and the Animo ZEUS. The Zeppelin feels more masculine than the previous four ladies tall boots, which is as it should be I feel. Many boot makers are offering these so called unisex boots that can allegedly be worn by men and women alike you just need to buy a larger size. My question is simple, when was the last time you dated a guy whose feet looked like yours?? Men have different feet and by this I dont just mean bigger I mean generally bulkier, wider, taller.. I think you get my point. Well as far as I can see Animo seem to be the only ready to wear boot maker addressing this in the shape of the Mens Riding Boots ZEPPELIN and ZEUS.

The ZEPPELIN above looks like it belongs on the foot of a spartan warrior! Its chiseled and oozes testosterone, I have to say I love this boot!

If you are the type of rider who likes the combination of a short boot and chaps then Animo have answered this question to with the previously mentioned ZAMBIA for women and ZEUS for men. Lets take a look at these two and the chaps or gaiters whichever you prefer, you say tomato I say... etc etc..

The ZAMBIA Paddock Boot or Jodhpur Boot or Ankle Boot..again depending where you are in the world to me is reminiscent of a classic Italian sports car, it is sleek and low profiled, smooth, sexy and sublime. The line from the toe cap to the front of the sheen is uninterrupted and comforts the natural line of the ladies foot so well it's practically glove like. Combine these with the Animo ZELDA or Animo ZUNE half chap and you have just achieved absolute completion in riding footwear.

I'll come onto the half chaps in a minute, now lets take a look at the Mens short boots, the ZEUS.

As with the ZEPPELIN it is immediately apparent that you are looking at the mens version of the short boot and no longer looking at the ZAMBIA. While the incline from toe to shin is once again smooth and uninterrupted the line seems to move more steeply and with more aggression that with the ladies shoe, giving the shoe a slightly higher profile which is in my opinion as it should be with a mans shoe. The heel seems less apparent although this could be an illusion due to the nature of the incline from lower to upper shin. The boots are crafted in the same Italian calf skin as all of Animo Italia's riding boots they are soft and yet strong. The pairing of these with the classic Animo ZARA half chap is a marriage made in heaven.

*Animo Zambia

The Animo Italia Half Chaps, Mini Chaps or even Gaitors as some call them are an absolute compliment to the boots, well obviously they would need to be wouldn't they?! Engineering chaps is a challenging and costly task, chaps are notoriously hard to make fit well and work in the right way, so many companies have released chaps and boot combinations but none to my knowledge have escaped problems with zippers and fit of the chaps, after several variants they are starting to get it right. For Animo this simply was not a problem, the solution and reason why Animo Italia produce the best possible product from the outset.. it is actually quite simple. Start right using the best possible materials and do not cut costs. Animo manufacture all of their chaps in Italy from the very best raw material including the best zippers and leather. By using the best of everything from the outset and making the products in their own building they were able to produce a perfect product from the outset. It really is that simple.

In the ladies range of gaitors we have 2 models both of which are beautifully decorated. The first is the ZUNE and the second is called ZELDA. Even though both chaps feature decoration they are still somewhat unassuming, stylish and classy not overly brash or too blingy for one to take seriously. For me it is typical of Animo in that they can produce such a serious product used for contact with the horse under stress and heavy workloads and still maintain that look of class and beauty, it doesn't look like an aggressive sports utility vehicle with zips and poppers all over it, its doesn't need to have all of that excessive nonsense going on, it is an Animo Gaitor 100% made in Italy under the watchful eye of the designer. That is what sets you apart from the next rider when you choose to put Animo on your feet.

Here below we have images of all three chaps including the ZARA for men, which is a classic chap which pairs beautifully with the Animo ZEUS ankle boots. These ones at the top are Animo ZUNE...

I wanted to show the fit of the chap against the boots, look at these here below..
