We love Wired Magazine. Sure sometimes you feel like you’re reading Maxim for geeks, but the quality of the writing stands out from the rest. On the cover for the next issue (which hits stands on July 21st) is Brad Pitt, who if you haven’t heard is in a highly anticipated Tarantino movie (aren’t they all?) set to release this summer. Pitt approached the magazine with an idea about giving extremely bad advice on tech etiquette to its readers, and since he’s married to Gia, they couldn’t really say no.

“How to Behave: New Rules for Highly Evolved Humans, a Scientific approach to 21st-Century Predicaments” is a hilarious collection of spoof advice, and sounds like it’s straight from the mind of Tyler Durden. With some great photos by Dan Winters and illustrations by Jason Lee, it’s not only a fantastic read, but a clever way to promote a film.

READ MORE for all the “tips” offered by Brad Pitt, or pick up your copy of Wired next week.

Our Rock Band bassist sucks. Am I a total jerk if I kick him out?
Who cares? You shred, he doesn’t. Fire his ass. Bonus: It’ll put the others on notice. Anyone who doesn’t keep up can hit the road. Even if that means firing the whole band. Remember: All great artists go solo eventually. Just think of Ronnie James Frickin’ Dio.

Can I answer my cell during a movie if it seems urgent?
Never. It may be a brief interruption—just a few seconds—but what if someone sitting near you is trying to make a decent bootleg? Did you ever think of that? Now all those street-corner copies are permanently defiled by your so-called “emergency.” Don’t be so damn selfish.

Is it OK to look at pornography at work?
Don’t just look at it at work, bring in your old porn mags and scan them there! It’s like converting your vinyl to MP3s. Fill up your hard drive, and when you need a break from spreadsheets, just open a favorite pictorial.

Should I ask my World of Warcraft wife if she’s really a dude?
Absolutely not. If it’s good, don’t check under the hood. I say, love her with everything you’ve got. I mean, she’s your wife, man!

I want to post a picture of my wife’s butt on twitter a la Ashton Kutcher. Do I need to ask her first, or can I snap, post, and hope she’ll be flattered?
Don’t take a picture of your wife’s butt. That’s silly. Take pictures of other people’s wives’ butts.

I exaggerated my salary on my online dating profile. Should I fess up?
Hell no. Everyone lies online. In fact, readers expect you to lie. If you don’t, they’ll think you make less than you actually do. So the only way to tell the truth is to lie.

Can I talk on the phone while taking a whiz?
No, you can’t talk on the phone! Do you want the guy next to you to hear your entire conversation? That’s why you should only text in the bathroom. Just be sure you don’t hit the wrong button and end up putting a photo of your junk on Twitter. Trust me, you don’t want those followers.

If you can’t make it to Bristol this summer, here’s a closer look at Banksy’s Summer Show. In an interview with the BBC he says: “This is the first show I’ve ever done where taxpayers’ money is being used to hang my pictures up rather than scrape them off, this show is my vision of the future.” Many of the over 100 exhibits are blended in with the museum’s existing pieces, mimicking a stunt pulled in 2003 when he smuggled a painting into the prestigious Tate Gallery, where it hung for a few hours before being discovered.

Also on display at the museum are a series of photos of a trip Banksy took to Africa a few months ago. Mainly located in the suburbs of Bamako in Mali, West Africa, he is taking his art global – targeting the areas that are at the heart of the messages he tries to shed light on.
Don’t call it a backpack, it’s a rucksack. Porter’s Sportive collection sees a light departure from the usual materials in favor of durable canvas (think Filson) and leather (think Filson). We’re finding it more and more difficult to find backpacks, not rucksacks, that heir on the side of formal like this one. While we like packs to go with sneakers, sometimes we just don’t want to go with a duffle or hold-all when we’re going with boaters. It has all the usual zip pockets and compartments for all your toys and lends itself to your favorite Fall attire. Definitely more of a day pack, this outdoorsy/military-inspired bag is oddly reminscent of an old book bag and because it’s Porter, you know it’ll withstand the times just like your favorite bags from Mountain Equipment Co-Op, albiet, 3-4 times the cost. No word on a drop date, price, or shop location yet.

Wes Anderson changed the way we watched movies. Before seeing Bottle Rocket all we would ever expect from a comedy would be a bunch of gags. By the time The Royal Tenenbaums came out, we were officially fans. Finally, films where the comedy was so subtle and dark, you had to think whether or not what you just saw was funny (it usually was). We weren’t the only ones impressed by this Texan’s talent, as even though these films weren’t commercial successes, they won over critics and indie film fans alike. Scorsese even named Bottle Rocket one of his top-ten favorite movies of the 1990’s.

For music lovers, his films are gems; he always finds a way to select the perfect song for the perfect scene – similar to Tarantino & Scorsese. With a focus on rock, indie, and sometimes folk, he uses music to set the mood, and tell the story without actually using dialogue.
Here’s a preview of Cre8tive Recreation’s Italian Collection due out in the Fall. The obvious dope feature is the removable upper with a zipper. We’ve been fans of Orange County’s Cre8tive Recreation for a long time who are considered a sort of a pioneer in the footwear industry. Back in ‘02 the brand was vigilant and saw that there was a real lack of stylish sporty footwear for the young professional. At the time, all you could find were dress shoes that had to be worn with suits or sneakers that couldn’t be worn formally. Following the creative boom of the last few years the young footwear company decided to change the status quo and offer a variety of stylish sneakers and hasn’t looked back since. Foregoing the sometimes bright colorways, these pieces from the Fall collection are a slight departure in terms of silhouettes, while maintaining the simplicity in materials and understated design. Definitely more on the formal side of sneakers.

(Thanks Nick!)

One of the best parts about riding is the essential clothing and gear. Following up on the success of its previous version, Triumph is launching a new version of its Lawford jacket. The Lawford Black will keep its styling and features from the previous model made from soft, oil washed cowhide, the natural finished hides used make it so that every piece is different thus unique. Other features include antique silver finished snaps and zippers but with a touch of the modern with laser etched arm ‘world’ patch and thermal ‘camo-print’ removable vest lining. On the more practical side, the jacket has CE approved protectors for the shoulders and elbows and double impact seam stitching. We for one, really appreciate the timelessness of it all.

We finally got around to checking out the entire Fall/Winter 2009 collection from Vancouver’s own Wings + Horns. For a relatively small brand, they’ve been making some huge gains in popularity as of late with their attention to detail and use of high quality materials. We can’t quite put our finger on it, maybe it’s the use of flannel and wool, the handknit sweaters, the cotton-cashmere shirts or the military-inspired coats, that scream West Coast Canada to us. Most notably, we’re really feeling that varsity jacket (above) - The Melton Wool Award Jacket. All in all, they’ve released some solid staples worthy of any wardrobe along with some accessories to keep you warm over the harsh winter. The line is set to release at the end of the month at Roden Gray.

Rick Klotz shoots from the hip, and he doesn’t care who takes the bullet. But that’s what you get for being a major influencer in the streetwear scene, founding Freshjive in 1989. Since the beginning, the brand rooted in Los Angeles culture was never shy about being controversial, whether its through social and political commentary, or just pushing the limits of the latest trends. As if one majorly influencial brand wasn’t enough, Klotz is also the driving force behind such project as Warriors Of Radness, Reserve LA, and The Propagandist.

Well Klotz is once again pushing the boundries with Freshjive, not only with a brand new (and fantastic looking) product line for 2010, but with a concept any marketer would shrug at. In an email I just received in my inbox he states:

“Since I started Freshjive, I have had a personal conflict with this business of “branding”. In fact, I was so conflicted at one time, that I quit working. I am in the business of promoting the company brand yet personally I am not interested in items for the brand name. It’s a bit of a quagmire with me because I hate the culture of promoting a brand yet I enjoy designing clothes and t-shirt designs.

Beginning with our spring 2010 line, we will no longer be using our brand logo or name on any of our product, including all labeling and t shirt designs. Nowhere on any product will our name or previous brand logo be used anymore.

Regards,
Rick Klotz
formerly Freshjive”

I for one welcome the minimalist approach in both branding and design; a timeless approach that’s refreshing and exciting. See a preview of the upcoming Spring 2010 line after the jump and judge the product for yourself.

If you had one in the 90’s…respect. To the best of our recollection, colette hasn’t partnered up with any other U.S.-based brand since The Gap (no comment) but here they’ve gone with Timberland on the classic 6″ boot. Timberland beige with colette blue. These aren’t for us, but colette making some noise with a product on U.S. soil is always worth a shout out. Arguably, this look is in the midst of a comeback with the likes of Kanye West spotted wearing them here and there as of late; we however were most impressed with the influence of it on women’s Swedish style. Wow.

The thing about being a DJ is that somewhere along the way, skilled turntablists, radio jockeys, and every person that has ever played with buttons on a stereo everywhere from a wedding to a house party, all got unjustly grouped together under the same title. Meaning our hometown hero, DJ Drastik, a guy who studied music production, has shared the stage with A-Trak, MSTRKRFT, Mobb Deep, Talib Kweli and Method Man amongst others, and the only Canadian DJ to take home all 3 National DMC titles, is deserving of more respect than a rental-DJ. Sure there are a lot of DJ’s out there doing it up bigger than this up-and-commer, but if DJ AM can make it from Crazy Town to celebrity, there’s no reason Drastik can’t. In fact, he already is. We caught up with him to talk about globetrotting, backstage stories and fellow Stylust Tom Wrecks’ Love Lockdown remix on DJ Benzi’s SKY HIGH official Kanye West mixtape.

LH: So I know what you’re all about, but tell our readers who Drastik is and why you’re a big deal:

Drastik: hahaha no big deal here. Just trying to do me and do what feels right, its working out okay. I used to do DMC Dj competitions, i won a few national titles and got my name out on the world map that way. From there i started doing mixtapes and got a lot of love and exposure on that tip…now its on to production and keeping up with the mixtapes. Im really picky about my mixes though, so it takes longer to put them out than it probably should, but quality over quantity. Thats me in a nutshell.

LH: You’re a big deal, I Google’d you and you were top of the pile, but I saw this bush-league DJ Drastik on there too who couldn’t bother to spell “official” right on his “offcial website”, you ever get in touch with him just for fun?

Drastik: Naw hahaha, never really cared. There’s a few Drastiks out there. If they have a problem with me stealing the google thunder, then so be it, but i have no problem with it. Its about what you do with the name that counts in the end. When i was given my name, there was no google to search stuff like that hahahaha.

LH: Tell us about The Stylusts:

Drastik: The Stylusts is summed up in one word…family. That’s it really. i grew up with Tom Wrecks. We used to skate together and when i was getting into dj’ing i dragged him along. Illo, we met just through the local scene. We all realized that we had similar ideas, tastes, formulas. So it was natural we team up. We all work so well together cause were such good friends first.

LH: It’s name dropping time, who have you shared the stage with?

Drastik: Man, its a big list now. Ill list some faves though. Hip Hop acts, id say Mobb Deep. When The Infamous came out, the feeling it gave me listening to it was and still is the best feeling ever. So it was an honor to play that show. As far as dj’s, id have to say A-trak, He’s my favorite dj of all time hands down. Super good dude on top of amazing dj/producer as well. I did a 4 turntable/cdj tag team (pause) set with Bloc Party not long ago. That was fun as hell. Maybe Mstrkrft, Crookers too. Soo many over the years its hard to keep track.

LH: That’s a good list going on, you have to have a good backstage story…

Drastik: hmmm…i once opened for Tha Liks. Actually i have a few times now, but the first time i did, i played an all west coast set before they came out. I was on fire that night and they (Tha Liks) were loving it! E-Swift told me to just keep playing for a bit and they hyped the crowd over my set. Anyways, after the show we were all having drinks in the basement of this club. Tash was very very intoxicated. He came up to me with eyes looking right through me and said something along the lines of him loving me, i couldn’t really make out what he was saying then out of nowhere he just gave me a hug, but wouldnt let go. He just sorta held on to me ahahah. it was scary and awkward. Another more recent story, I was judging a dj competition with my homies Jokers of The Scene for Redbull. The good peoples at Redbull provided us with too much booze really, but I only had about 3 drinks and i blacked out. I take dj competitions very seriously and would never fuck around when it comes to the judging part, but after competitor number 3 i just blacked out! There were lots of people in our little “vip” area and it was at one of those clubs where girls for sure get roofied. Im 100 percent positive i got drugged cause i’ve never blacked out! I even dj’ed after and have no memory of it! I woke up the next day sooo sick. That’s two that come to mind, i’m sure i have better ones in the vault somewhere.

LH: What’s the first album you ever bought, and the last one you bought?

Drastik: i think it was ac/dc back in black. I cant remember that well, but something like that. Last one was probably A-Trak’s Infinity +1. I’m ashamed to admit i don’t buy alot of music. If anything I’ll buy singles online, not so much full albums. We get a lot of tunes sent to us too.

LH: So, is there a group or act out there that you think you should be getting more play or exposure?

Drastik: There’s so many, but I’m going to be a dick and say us hahaha. Were all working super hard to gain the right exposure, its a constant struggle to be heard.

LH: Where did you just get back from and where you headed next?

Drastik: I haven’t been traveling too much lately. Trying to stay close to home and focus on finishing this Stylusts record and be close to my pops who unfortunately isn’t doing so hot health wise. Last big trip was to Hong Kong a few months back. It was rad as hell! Next big one will be doing all of Canada and the States once the record comes out in September/October.

LH: You must have some good packing tips…

Drastik: I always used to get my girl to pack for me. She had this technique of rolling my shirts up like blunts. They don’t wrinkle and it saves lots of room. I’ll have to figure out how to do that shit now. Also, pack your socks into your shoes, that helps save room. I never really bring my skateboard. Never have time on my trips.

LH: What are your favorite city’s/hotels/skate spots/brans?

Drastik: I love London. I have a soft spot for it. Shouts to the Novotel Hammersmith!! They probably hate me there by now. I was always known as that drunk Canadian guy there. Im very fond of Hong Kong now that i’ve been. Gotta love going to 7-11 at 6 am and buying a quart of tsingtao and having them open it for you over the counter! Plus its just such a beautiful, friendly and really clean city. As for skate spots… Pier 7, San Francisco. I miss that spot. And I wear a lot of different brands. I like Supreme alot. I used to get clothes from Orisue and i love they’re stuff! Im hoping Michael and Allen are reading this! If you are, send me a box homies! hahaha. I’m a nike head as well…who isn’t but, i really do love me some fresh 90’s!

LH: Your boy Tom got his Love Lockdown remix on DJ Benzi’s SKY HIGH mixtape, were you involved directly/indirectly? Tell us about it.

Drastik: I was involved as far as input etc… When Tom made it, Kanye still hadn’t released the stems, so they’re weren’t that many remixes of it yet. Illo and i both had suggestions, but overall it was well done. Remixes are a dime a dozen nowadays so we suggested he put it out fast before the internet was bombarded by love lockdown. Benzi is a good friend of ours. Illo and I did a remix on his Lil Wayne “we got the remix” joint. That was maybe 2-3 years ago, right before Weezy blew up heavy. But ya, Benzi has always shown love and support for the crew. So we put the remix out on a few blogs and it was well received. After maybe 3 days of it being out, Tom got a call from our friend in Vancouver. He was with Benzi and he said that Plain Pat happened to get the remix and played it for Kanye when they were in the studio together. Apparently Kanye loved it and he personally told Benzi that Tom’s remix HAD to be on there… That was that. Shouts to Ye for the love!

LH: If you could tour with any artist right now, who would it be?

Drastik: A-trak, 100%. The man is a genius. I was actually hanging out with him of few weeks back in Montreal. Just catching up and chatting about his travels and music is a treat in itself. He’s accomplished so much in such a short time and he’s only getting bigger and better. Much respect to him, he’s my biggest inspiration. That would be my dream tour.

LH: Aside from A-Trak you’ve also done a show with DJ AM, did you ever think that DJ’s would ever achieve this sort of ‘celebrity status’?

Drastik: Not to the level of celebrity status, never would have thought that, but its a great thing. AM is an amazing dj, regardless of his celebrity, but because he has that leverage, it gives exposure to the mainstream and opens doors for all dj’s. Its definately a great look. Shouts to AM, another really talented and humble man.

LH: What else is coming up in 2009 for Drastik?

Drastik: 2009 is busy so far. Lots of tours etc… Were (Stylusts) working on an EP for Tremendous Records which is through Last Gang. Thats where our heads are at right now, getting this EP done. Im busy with my monthly alongside Jokers Of the Scene, Got a new mix in the works as well as an EP of my own. Lots on deck really and its early!

LH: What’s the best part of being Drastik?

Drastik: Getting to wake up everyday and work on music and do what i love. Really doesnt get much better than that.

LH: If there’s anything random you want to say, give shout outs, start a rivalry, share a dark secret, here’s your chance:

Drastik: Thanks to you for the interview! For all the readers out there, Justin and I grew up together! So shouts to Hunt Club and the old schoolio! Shouts to everyone who’s supported my mixes and work over the last while. I don’t get paid to make mixes, i do it for the love and art, so your support and wonderful comments mean alot. Gotta thank all those who’ve helped me get to where I’m at…The Stylusts, Team Canada, Jokers of The Scene, Mr. Shapiro, Mike and Graeme @ OneLove and my amazing manager Iggy Smalls. As for beef, the only thing i have to say to dj’s making mixtapes out there is, step your game up! I find the art of the mixtape is rapidly becoming very jaded. I get so bored hearing these bland mixes that only contain the new blog tunes…it’s just so repetitive. So to all the hollerboard members or whoever, put some time and creative thinking into your mixes, please!! Go listen to Spinbad’s 80’s mix or a Neil Armstrong mix and get creative! Thats about it! Thanks!

Stay tuned to UNDFTD’s blog and NSW for future CTRS info.

Italian case maker Pijama who was just recently featured in Monocle’s June magazine, brings a fresh re-styling to the typical MacBook/Laptop/iPhone, camera and even Vinyl record cases but for some reason haven’t made cases for 8-track tapes. Designed by Monica Battistella and Sergion Gobbi, these scratch proof soft cases are made for everyday objects and designed for people who both love and hate technology and are bored of anonymous folders. The cases are simple and easy with no zippers or handles, all you have a quick Velcro closure. The cases are made with a soft and resistant neoprene-like material and fabrics such as 70s hand printed cotton or traditional Italian table cloth.

One of the best things about the Interwebs are blogs that offer great insight into brands and the minds behind them. Case in point, being able to follow the life of a highly respected fashion icon such as Paul Smith. A privilege for fans like us. Thank you Interwebs! Written by the man knighted by the Queen in 2000, it offers us a way to interact and follow the brand, and learn a little more about the main driver. He comes across as a normal guy you’d wanna hang out with; he’s down-to-earth, likes biking and football (the suits he designed for ManU pictured above), you might even find him working in one of his own shops.

Follow Sir Paul (the other one) as he gives you a behind the scenes look at upcoming shows, exhibitions, discover what he likes or just who and where he’s hanging out with. But before leaving you to discover the Paul Smith blog for yourself, a few Paul Smithisms after the jump…

-In London, we’re not so passionate about how we look, as opposed to the Italians, who are very self-conscious. We’re not stylish dressers, but we’re good on ideas and on freethinking.

-Generally speaking, I wear a suit every day, because my suits are custom-made. They are comfortable. They move with me.

-I’m very happy if a man smells like himself. But if he does wear a scent, it shouldn’t be too attention seeking. The people on the other side of the office shouldn’t be able to smell you.

-I’m insatiably curious. It’s fatal if there happens to be a junk shop on the way to some important meeting I’m supposed to be attending. I’ll emerge hours later with an inflatable tomato or something. I tend to find inspiration in the incongruous and overlooked. I bought a jacket off the back of a guy walking a donkey in Morocco recently. It was a cool jacket, but the stench was horrendous.

-Humour is my default setting. My dad always tried to laugh his way out of any difficult situation and I’m the same. I have been known to pull a rubber duck out of my pocket if things get too solemn.

-I am the mythical man who literally has everything. Birthdays and Christmases are a nightmare for my wife Pauline. She can’t really get me a Paul Smith tie or cufflinks. She’s clever, though – she gives me one of her own paintings or drawings, which is worth far more to me than something that costs thousands of pounds.

-Communism didn’t work because people like to own stuff. I wish I’d said that. But Frank Zappa did.

-I’ve got a huge rabbit collection, in the early 80s I foolishly said that rabbits bought me good luck and now I get lots sent to me. I think i have about 80 boxes in my warehouse in Nottingham.

Here’s our man Nalden working with Nike to highlight both the beautiful city of Amsterdam and its latest re-release, the Air Max 1, the Maxim in particular. The video introduces you to a few A’dam notables of the moment like the people of MiNiBar, Momkai, La Melodia (responsible for the soundtrack of the video) and Hotel, a great agency who has been working with Nike a lot of late.

Sartoria directed the video and managed to use the macro effect very well to create a video that at times seems to show a giant city in minute detail, something I’ve been a fan of for awhile.

Not too long ago we were looking over Lanvin high top sneakers for Fall/Winter 2009 and wondering if Lanvin was ever going to drop a new silouette. Our prayers have been answered with Lucas Ossendrijver and Alber Elbazhoping getting on the current Chukka trend, but doing it in a fresh, grey flannel – keeping the color palette from the Fall/Winter 2o09 collection, right down to the mittens and hats. Being one of our favourite Fall/Winter materials, it only seems natural and down right appropriate to throw it on a shoe, even though you probably won’t take these through the winter salt.
Usually not our sort of thing as we don’t really get into spoofed songs or music videos (thank you YouTube), but this was just too fresh to pass up. Or it’s either the most whack thing you’ve ever heard, we’re not sure. If you read the album cover you already know, Da Chip is the music of Daft Punk, revisited on vintage game systems, done up by the French group Je deviens dj en 3 jours. The perfect blend of your throwback nerd style and current musical stylings. And the digital art on this cover, respect. Check it out here.

Update: Looks like Da Chip got a lot more popular than expected and was take off the band’s site but lucky for you we have a copy that you can download right here.

Check out the playlist after the jump.

Even though they are a classic, the track shoe goes through phases where they’re celebrated in summer and simultaneously hated on by former fans who used to love the vintage sneaker look before they becamse more mainsteam. These are the same people who hate on the classic adidas track jacket and only like the movies and bands you’ve never heard of, just because. More than anything, I’m really into the bright colorway of Elite (big ups to our French readers who held it down for Bastille Day, yesterday) pictured up top, the Track Racer in purple is strictly for the ladies. There’s even a fresh ride to match those Nike Elite’s.
