Award-winning rock artist Alex Kavvadias today celebrates the launch of a music video aimed at raising awareness of the issue and impact of human trafficking and exploitation around the world. Kavvadias is an Australian-born Greek artist.

The music video titled “False Hope” was produced in collaboration with MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) – the largest anti-human trafficking campaign in the world. The gripping four-minute music video takes viewers inside the emotional story of a mother saying goodbye to her young daughter who leaves home to follow the promise of a job and new life. Hope for a better future soon fades as the girl finds herself trapped in the world of modern-day slavery.

18 Feet & Rising Sydney created the cinematic video and it was directed by Juliet Taylor. The lyrics were written by Dejan Rasic with music by the band Miss Cherry and production by AMMOS Music in Greece.

I’m truly honoured to be part of such an important global project. The trafficking of humans is one of the great evils of our time and I hope this song and video can help make a difference. – Alex Kavvadias

“The MTV EXIT team do a truly phenomenal job of bringing the issue of human trafficking and exploitation into the mainstream,” says Dejan Rasic, writer and executive creative director of “False Hope.” “I’ve had the honor of working with some hugely talented people to bring this project to life and I’m grateful for their contribution to the cause.”

ABOUT THE SONG ‘FALSE HOPE’

A young girl somewhere in Asia has been promised a job as a waitress in a foreign country. She has breakfast with her mother on the morning of her departure. The mood is sad but there is also hope and excitement about the young girl’s new
life abroad. She picks up her backpack and hugs her mother to say farewell. The girl opens the front door and walks through it, however it simply leads her straight into another room – a cell in a human trafficking operation. Confused and frightened, the girl is confronted by a strange and intimidating man who takes her passport away and forces her into a world of sex slavery. She is trapped and desperately tries to escape. Her mother breaks down in tears. They are separated by a wall, dividing their two different worlds.

MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) supports the launch of Eunice Olsen’s campaign to raise awareness on the issue of human trafficking and exploitation in Singapore. The campaign features attention-grabbing images and powerful words encouraging audiences to be aware of the problem and report suspicious activity. Olsen is using her influence to empower audiences to take action to identify and prevent situations of modern-day slavery in Singapore.

Launching in the May issue of JUICE magazine on newsstands now, the campaign’s striking images of Olsen peeling away heavy tape from her mouth and her eyes, sends readers the message: be aware and speak up.

Olsen is known for her accomplishments in the entertainment industry, but she is also acknowledged and admired for her long-standing participation in human rights advocacy and political activism. In 2004, she was named as a Nominated Member of Parliament of Singapore.

In 2006, her humanitarian work led her to meet a survivor of sex trafficking. The emotional encounter propelled Olsen to join the efforts to fight human trafficking and exploitation.

In 2012, Olsen became the first-ever MTV EXIT Digital Ambassador. In this role, she partners with MTV EXIT to spread anti-trafficking awareness messaging online through her social media networks. She traveled to Yangon, Myanmar to be a part of the first-ever massive, public concert where more than 70,000 united to fight modern-day slavery. Olsen shared the historic experience with her social media followers. Her current campaign was born out of her experience in Myanmar, which motivated to do more in the movement to fight human trafficking and exploitation.

Many may think that this issue has nothing to do with them, but we all have a part to play. The main message of my campaign is that we are all responsible for arming ourselves with relevant and necessary information, and to take a stand and spread the word against human trafficking,” said Olsen. “MTV EXIT has been doing a fantastic job spreading the word through their efforts with television programs, online content, live events, and partnerships with anti-trafficking organisations – and I am very honored to be able to play a part in the fight for freedom.”

Singapore is a destination country for men, women and girls from countries in Asia and Southeast Asia that are trafficked into the country and are subjected to forced sex work, forced labor and forced domestic work.

Duet composed by two brothers that blend rhythms and cultures on both sides of the ocean. Borned by Salvadorian parents and Belgian by birth, this duet has divided their lives between two countries and two languages, which is why they sing in Spanish and French. After their great success in El Salvador, the duo decided to go conquer Latin American’s hearts in order to enhance their country El Salvador and disseminate their melodies and their positive messages throughout the region. Shaka and Dres are two young men with talent, perseverance and great dedication, they have become the biggest music exponents of El Salvador and their name is synonymous of success, struggle, dedication, perseverance, versatility, music and maturity.

In 2012 they had the opportunity to open for groups like Julieta Venegas, Calle 13, Dulce María and Reik. They were the creators of the image and theme of Telethon 2010 and 2011 summer campaign of Telefónica Movistar. In February 2012 both brothers decided to go to Mexico to live there for six months, in this period they reached their purpose of making a song with a recognized artist, in this case, they achieved to record a song featuring the Mexican pop star Yam. The theme “Cómo la ves” was signed under the seal of Televisa. Soon this song will be broadcast in that country. For 2013 the duo has already had a collaboration with Luis Enrique Mejia Godoy (Nicaragua) and Yam (Televisa Mexico), also they will have collaborations Alexa Ferrari (Honduras) and Shel (Costa Rica). This pair of brothers is characterized by positive messages of love and hope. Their most recent production is “Pobre la María” in collaboration with Luis Enrique Mejia Godoy, the song was released on February 2013 and is becoming part of the top ten lists of the most important radios El Salvador and Nicaragua.

About “Pobre la Maria”

“Pobre la María” is a theme that sounds pretty Nicaraguan, but it applies to a reality that’s shared by all Latin Americans. The story about the problem of trafficking and migration driven by poverty is a situation that María or anyone else can suffer, regardless of their origin. This time, “Pobre la María” returns with a new concept sang by the duo Shaka & Dres who are characterized by positive messages, with interpretations and participation of the original author and composer Luis Enrique Mejia Godoy.

The purpose of this project is not to compete with the original version of “Pobre la María” but to create a new version with a modern and youthful rhythm, in order to reach the new generations and sensitize our youth about the issue of human trafficking.

In this musical production you can appreciate the fusion of two musical genres, with an electro-Latin base mixed with percussion instruments played by musicians of “Tierra Fertil” from Nicaragua who permeate their authentic flavor.

This effort is intended to alert and make visible a reality that many women and children suffer: human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. It is intended to keep them from falling into the hands of these networks that represent 21st century slavery.

New Korean Drama Series, Butterfly: An MTV EXIT Drama Production, to Premiere in Thailand on Channel 7, 25 March 2013 at 8:30 AM

21 MARCH 2013, BANGKOK: Today MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) announces the world premiere of “Butterfly: An MTV EXIT Drama Production,” a powerful program aiming to raise awareness and help prevent human trafficking in Asia. The gripping series is produced in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Australian Government’s Agency for International Development (AusAID), Walk Free: the movement to end modern slavery, and the Korean Committee for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF); and it is endorsed by the South Korean Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. The MTV EXIT campaign is supported by the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN).

The world premiere of “Butterfly: An MTV EXIT Drama Production” will air on MTV EXIT’s Thailand broadcast partner Channel 7 on Monday, 25 March at 8:30 AM.

Produced in Korea by MTV EXIT, “Butterfly: An MTV EXIT Drama Production” is an original, 75-minute, three-part drama series of interweaving stories that highlight different aspects of human trafficking, with the common aim of raising awareness on the issue of modern day slavery. MTV EXIT partnered with revered Korean Drama Director Jun Ki Sung, working alongside Executive Producer Hyun-Good Shin. The series addresses various aspects of human trafficking: in the “Rose” episode, Jang Mi is forced into sex work after being lured from her village with the promise of making her name as an actress; in the “Hwaja” episode, the protagonist is sold into slavery under the pretense of a well-paid domestic job; and Jin Young, in the “Butterfly” episode, is abducted outside his family home by a child trafficking ring.

Known as edutainment in the development field, this unique program provides an entertaining vessel to educate audiences on the issue of human trafficking and promote prevention actions. The MTV EXIT Korean drama series pairs quality production value with important messages for audiences who may be unaware of the issue or may be involved in situations of trafficking or exploitation.

“MTV EXIT is on the cutting edge of innovative outreach through media. By fusing pop-culture entertainment and pro-social messaging, our Korean drama series is an effective way to educate, engage and empower audiences in the fight against modern-day slavery,” says MTV EXIT Director Matt Love.

ENSLAVED: AN MTV EXIT SPECIAL, PREMIERES ON LAOSTAR
8 MARCH AT 8:30 PM

5 MARCH 2013, BANGKOK/VIENTIANE: MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) today announces the release of “Enslaved: An MTV EXIT Special,” a powerful documentary film aiming to raise awareness and help prevent human trafficking in Laos. The half-hour documentary film, hosted by musician Sac from the Cells, is produced in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Australian Government’s Agency for International Development (AusAID), Walk Free: the movement to end modern slavery, and it is supported by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the United Nations Inter-Agency Project on Human Trafficking (UNIAP).

The documentary film will premiere on LaoStar 8 March 2013 8:30 PM. Next month, additional human-trafficking awareness programming from MTV EXIT will air on LaoStar and broadcast details will be announced soon.

“Enslaved” is MTV EXIT’s insightful documentary series produced for 13 different countries across Asia including Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Adapted versions of “Enslaved” identify relevant current and emerging trafficking trends, while allowing audiences to connect this important issue to their community.

“I am proud to partner with MTV EXIT on this project. My hope is that the people of Laos will watch Enslaved and be encouraged to get informed and join the fight against human trafficking. Join me and take a stand against modern-day slavery,” said Sac, MTV EXIT Celebrity Campaign Ambassador of Laos and host of “Enslaved: An MTV EXIT Special.”

The Lao version of “Enslaved” takes viewers inside the harrowing stories of people affected by the human trafficking trade in Laos: Gai, a Thai woman trafficked to Japan as a forced sex worker; Vannak a young man from Cambodia trafficked for labour onto a Thai fishing vessel; and Vatsana, a Laotian woman trafficked to Thailand and forced to work as a domestic slave for 16 years in a Bangkok home.

Human trafficking is a crime where traffickers enslave and exploit victims. There are more than 20 million people living in slavery around the world and more than half of those affected are in Southeast Asia. Through “Enslaved,” MTV EXIT and its partners aim to inform the public about the traps of trafficking and how to take action to prevent becoming a victim of this devastating crime.

BANGKOK – 22 FEBRUARY 2013: MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) in partnership with USAID, AusAID, Walk Free and ASEAN, announces the exclusive, worldwide premiere of the MTV EXIT + Hugo music video that dramatically highlights the dangers and the impact of human trafficking. The video will be broadcast early Sunday morning at 12:30 a.m. across Thailand on Channel 7 on the following dates: February 24th, March 3rd, March 17th, and April 7th.

Hugo is a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter that draws on his Thai and British roots to create lyrics and music that bridge his upbringing among the Mekong River jungle and his current home of Manhattan. Signed to American rap-royalty Jay-Z’s Roc Nation entertainment label, Hugo’s music captures audiences across the globe with his soulful blend of blues and beats.

The powerful lyrics of the track “Exit, the Fault of Being Sincere,” written and performed by Hugo, convey the damaging outcomes of human trafficking and exploitation on individuals and families. Following the exclusive premiere on Channel 7, the music video will also be featured on MTV EXIT’s website at mtvexit.org.

What they said sounded easy
In a minute you just trust them
Once you’ve realized, it’s too late
And in the end, you’re filled with regrets

This is the pain of being sincere
This is the pain of being used
We’ve been fooled for a long time
We need help to find the way out

This heart has been locked up
No one’s listening, they just look away
If we could fly, we would fly as far as we can
Won’t be easily fooled by other people’s words

This unique music video represents an innovative and creative way to fuse popular musical content with MTV EXIT’s pro-social messaging to engage youth in the fight against human trafficking and exploitation. The gripping five-minute video takes viewers inside the emotionally charged and artfully constructed story of an innocent young boy taken and held against his will.

“I am so proud to partner with MTV EXIT on this project. My hope is that this music video ‘Exit, the Fault of Being Sincere’ will encourage more people to join the fight against human trafficking,” said Hugo. “I encourage everyone to go to mtvexit.org and share this link on social media. Join me and take a stand against modern-day slavery.”

The “Exit, the Fault of Being Sincere” video was conceived by and produced with generous in-kind support from PERSP3CTIVE in Bangkok, Thailand. The gripping images provide dramatic insight into the realities of tricks and traps of trafficking, in particular the trafficking of children.

“We are thrilled to be in Yangon to bring together amazing international and local artists to continue the campaign against human trafficking with the people of Myanmar,” said Simon Goff, MTV EXIT CEO. “Music is such a powerful force to fuel change, and tonight, more than 70,000 people stood up in solidarity to make a statement on this global fight to end modern-day slavery!”

Jason Mraz makes history as the first international artist ever to perform at a massive open-air, public concert in Myanmar. The crowd erupted in excitement as Myanmar’s favorite female singer Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein joined Mraz on stage to perform the worldwide hit song Lucky.

R Zarni, one of Myanmar’s most popular artists ignited fans with the live debut of Traps of Life, a powerful song and music video about a survivor of human trafficking struggling to reintegrate into their community.
In addition to Asia’s top artists, distinguished speakers also took to the stage to encourage people in Myanmar and throughout the world to join the movement against trafficking. Senior representatives from the Myanmar Central Body for Suppression of Trafficking in Persons, Ministry of Home Affairs encouraged the young audience to prevent trafficking in their home community.

Derek Mitchell, United States Ambassador to Burma and Luis CdeBaca, United States Ambassador-at-Large, Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons expressed the U.S. government’s commitment in their strategic approach to combat human trafficking not only in Myanmar but also across Asia and throughout the world.

“The United States Government has a proud history of combatting trafficking in persons around the world,” said USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah. “For six years, our Agency has been a dedicated supporter of the MTV EXIT campaign, helping to raise awareness about human trafficking around the world. As we’ve seen, knowledge can lead to freedom, giving us all the power to end modern slavery.”

Bronte Moules, Australian Ambassador to Myanmar echoed the theme of the evening with her remarks on the Australian government’s continued efforts, through dynamic awareness-raising and preventative programs being implemented throughout Asia to put an end to modern-day slavery.

Ambassador Bronte Moules, Australian Embassy Myanmar said, “The work of MTV EXIT reminds us that ending human trafficking is everyone’s responsibility. Individuals, families, businesses, NGOs and governments all have a role to play in stopping this trade in human life and ensuring justice for its victims. Australia is committed to working with Myanmar and its partners in the region, on this issue of shared international concern.”

Andrew Forrest, Founder Walk Free took to the stage to address the crowd along with popular local artist and Walk Free Celebrity Ambassador to Myanmar Phyo Gyi. Forrest and Phyo Gyi inspired audience members to join the global movement of young people determined to Walk Free.

“It is such a privilege to be in Myanmar, with MTV EXIT, to launch Walk Free’s global business campaign against modern slavery. This concert is a landmark event, and one we are very proud to be part of,” said Nick Grono, CEO of Walk Free.

Later in the evening, in a great moment demonstrating regional support, representatives of ASEAN, including Danny Lee, Director Community Affairs Development, ASEAN Secretariat; Khine Myat Chit, Senior Officer in the Security Cooperation Division at the ASEAN Secretariat; and Mr. Aung Htoo, Director of the ASEAN Affairs Department in Myanmar; came on stage to encourage the crowd to get informed and protect themselves and their friends and family to avoid falling victim to the transnational crime of human trafficking.

“Human trafficking is a transborder issue that requires transborder solutions,” stated David Carden, U.S. Ambassador to ASEAN. “We are working with local, regional and international authorities to address this devastating practice to promote human security for all citizens of ASEAN.”

MTV EXIT Live in Myanmar will air across MTV’s international networks in on 8 March 2013 as a special edition of “MTV World Stage,” MTV’s weekly live music series. Available in more than a half-billion homes, the program will feature footage taken from concert performances, interviews and key information about human trafficking.

This ground-breaking event was made possible by the on-going support of MTV EXIT from the Australian Government’s Agency for International Development (AusAID), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Walk Free, a global movement to end modern-day slavery; and produced in partnership with the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the United Nations Inter-Agency Project Against Human Trafficking (UNIAP) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Human trafficking is a tragic crime that enslaves and exploits its victims, the majority of which are women and children. There are more than 20 million people living in slavery around the world with Myanmar and Southeast Asia particularly affected. The concert forms part of a wider initiative that seeks to educate and train youth through innovative television programming, digital content, capacity building workshops and community-based events. MTV EXIT Live in Myanmar follows the production of two Myanmar MTV EXIT documentaries on human trafficking, which were broadcast in 2010 and 2012 on national television to educate the public about the dangers of trafficking.

Sống với những nụ cười, Live With A Smile, is MTV EXIT’s first ever song created specifically for Vietnam. The song is the first-ever collaboration of 16 of Vietnam’s top artists including: Đoan Trang, Tạ Quang Thắng, Karik, Kimmese, Văn Mai Hương, Quốc Thiên, Noo Phước Thịnh, Viết Thanh, Hà Okio, boy band ‘MTV Group’ and girl band 5 Dòng kẻ group.

All of the artists donated their time to raising awareness and inspiring change around the issue of human trafficking. Live With A Smile, is a hopeful song about standing together to protect your family, friends and fellow citizens from falling into the trap of human trafficking. In Vietnam, many are willing to leave the issue of human trafficking in the dark. This unique collaboration shines a light on the problem, with direct messaging and statistics on sexual, domestic and hard labour exploitation. MTV EXIT’s groundbreaking video was co-produced with Creative Boutique Yeti and was directed by Tsering Tashi Gyalthang, Creative Boutique Yeti director.

“I was born as a Tibetan refugee so I have always been aware of the human capacity to forcefully snatch someone else’s freedom away. It still shocks me to know the extent to which the human trafficking and slavery of all forms are still widely practiced, right here in our own neighborhoods. MTV EXIT has been doing amazing work bringing this issue to light and spreading awareness. I am honored to be working with MTV EXIT and I hope that this music video will help spread more awareness in Vietnam, said Tsering Tashi Gyalthang, director of the music video.

MTV EXIT’s Celebrity Ambassador to Vietnam, Mỹ Tâm, encourages fans to spread the awareness on human trafficking and be involved in the global movement to end modern-day slavery on mtvexit.org and walkfree.org. Mỹ Tâm is also the host for the new half-hour Vietnamese language documentary film, Enslaved: An MTV EXIT Special that showcases a real and rare glimpse into human trafficking and exploitation. The new music video will premiere on Monday, 12 November 2012 on MTV Vietnam channel at 11 PM and will replay throughout the week and online at mtvvietnam.com.vn.

MTV EXIT is produced in partnership with the Government of Vietnam including the full support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST), Ministry of Public Security, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Australian Government’s Agency for International Development (AusAID), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Walk Free, the global movement to end modern slavery.
