Was it a success? There was a potential gantry collision, a reduced performance

Cost and efficacy. This mission cost an estimated 500 million dollars.
That is an astsronomical number for one launch.

The article sums it all up in the last few paragraphs when it talks about the SpaceX

Well, congratulations to Masten Space Systems on
completing the NGLLC,
landing within an average of 25 cms from the target. That beats Armadillo's average
accuracy of 90 cm, but the Judges allowed Masten an extra
day to complete the challenge, after a fire damaged the vehicle half way through
the first attempt on Wednesday.

>
>
>

In my opinion, Armadillo was robbed. Not only should the fire "count" as part of the
attempt (a real lander would not get a second chance), Armadillo would have had much
better accuracy themselves were it not for their own malfunction, which impacted the
roll thrusters and left them with impaired maneuverability on their first attempt.
Although, Armadillo did finish with enough time to attempt another flight. they chose
not to, so their accuracy stands as is. But, the important thing is the fire would
have and should have left Masten unable to complete the challenge, had the Judges
not allowed them a third day. Bad call.

The only real downside is that Armadillo stands to lose half a million dollars of
prize money because of this decision, that is definitely NOT fair. Maybe Masten and
Armadillo could have a run off for first prize.

So at first I thought, gee,
what an idiot. It looks like english so badly formed it makes no sense.
But, then I realized, it really doesn’t make any sense. This is some kind of
nonsensical gibberish inserted by a web robot or something. But why?

Then the paranoid schizophrenic in me started putting together unrelated facts and
observations. Every once in a while I come across something like this posted
in some web log, user comments section, customer feedback, or anywhere else someone
could post something anonymously on the internet. And then it hit me, this is
obviously a SECRET message being concealed with steganography.

Looking a little deeper into the message, the first sentence seems to make sense of
some kind. But the rest is nonsense. So my theory is this. The first
couple of sentences are a random header generated by a steganographic program, a sort
of tag to identify a piece of a hidden message. the rest of the gibberish is
the content of the hidden message. Of coarse, without the key, we’d have no
hope of deciphering the message. But we could search for the tag.

So, BING the exact phrase “Very
nice work, I would love to use you for my wedding”. You find all kinds of
similar gibberish. Always in a weblog or user comments or some place where anonymous
comments can be made. Like here. Hmmm…

So, next time someone asks you for help with their wedding, think, do I really know
this person?

;-)

couple of sentences are a random header generated by a steganographic program, a sort
of tag to identify a piece of a hidden message. the rest of the gibberish is
the content of the hidden message.

Like here. Hmmm…

So, next time someone asks you for help with their wedding, think, do I really know
this person?

;-)

SF, at its best, is an exploration of the human condition under circumstances that

Armadillo
Aerospace Claim Level 2 NGLLC Prize

Congratulations John Carmack & Armadillo! This
is a huge accomplishment, which again underscores the difference between the traditional
NASA big government/big aerospace approach versus getting out of the way and letting
real innovators build the future from the ground up.

Level 2 requires the rocket to fly for 180 seconds before landing precisely
on a simulated lunar surface constructed with craters and boulders. The minimum flight
times are calculated so that the Level 2 mission closely simulates the power needed
to perform a real descent from lunar orbit down to the surface of the Moon. First
place is a prize of $1 million while second is $500,000.
>
