Because of that, you are much more likely to receive SPAM and other bogus emails that are 'phishing' you to click on links and provide information to inappropriate actors.

"Phishing is the activity of defrauding an online account holder of financial information by posing as a legitimate company." 

You should always be paying attention to links and attachments in any email you click on but especially around this time of year. Since you are expecting many packages and spending much more money, it is probable you will be much more likely to fall victim to malicious links or attachments in holiday season phishing attempts.

In this quick episode, we discuss a few quick tips on avoiding falling for the scams that will get you sharing too much information to the wrong people.

In this week's episode, we just skim the surface of a few services that you in your personal/family life or small business could take advantage of. There are so many to pick from so we talk about Cloud computing and Storage. In future episodes we will take some time to dig into the many other offerings and what you could do with them as well as what we here at the podcast and Comrade Technology for what we can offer you.

The 5 apps I briefly discuss are:

  2. Google Trips (Ticketing, Reservations, and Planning)
  3. Credntia (Identification, Rewards, Credit Cards)
  4. TickTick (Checklist, Organization)
  5. Social Location Apps (Activities, Dining, Attractions)
    1. Foursquare
    2. Swarm
    3. Yelp
    4. Trip Advisor
    5. Google Local

There are many more tools for keeping all of your travel plans organized but I find these 5 to be the best 5 by far.

I don't even have my hands on them yet and I am ridiculously impresses with the feedback and press Snapchat's Spectacles are getting. I cannot wait to get a pair of my own. It is hard to tell what I would actually use them for but I think that is the point. Getting short 10 second clips of some of the most candid moments quickly and easily opens the door for many opportunities.

- Insecure Internet-connected devices designed to make your life more connected and convenient. This connected mesh of little miscellaneous devices is also known as the "Internet of Things" or (IoT) for short.

How?

- Malware that searches the internet for these devices was configured to send endless traffic to DNS Service Provider Dyn. The traffic disrupted the lookup information for many popular website on the web.

This week's episode breaks down how, why, and what we can do (if anything) to prevent this from happening again in the future.

- NOT A DAMN THING CAN BE DONE TO PREVENT THE FROM HAPPENING.

    YOU HATE OWING PEOPLE MONEY

    ...but now you don't have to worry about that any longer.

    PayPal has been around for years, but most don't realize they can use it for more than just paying merchants for products online or that auction they won on eBay. Apps like PayPal have completely transformed the way person-to-person payments can be made. 

    More recently apps like Venmo (venmo.com) and Square Cash - by Square (cash.me) have made it as simple as a single click to pay friends and family money right from your mobile device.

    If you've never heard of those apps, or even if you have and said you've never try something like that, there is a really good chance you already have an app capable of making these payments. That's right! If you use Facebook or Snapchat, these apps already have this feature available. You can configure a debit or credit card in the settings and now with a couple clicks, you are always able to pay that friend back for the tab they picked up.

    If you are an iPhone user and have recently updated to iOS 10, there are companion apps such as Circle that will allow you send payments directly from iMessage.

    Don't ever want to carry your wallet with you again? We are almost there. Now is the time to configure and start using your device's built-in payment systems such as Android Pay or Apple Pay for making simple payments at gas stations and other convenience stores.

    Getting There

    - Travel by car: Waze - uses Google Maps and adds some helpful features to your travel maps, including police and accident locations as we traffic congestion and nearest gas stations

    - Travel by Air: App In The Air - free app for importing your airline information. Will help you keep on time with travel updates for when you should be at the airport, checked-in, through security and boarding. Will even help you communicate and get all your text messages while traveling internationally.

    - Tracking Family: Life360 - a great app to use to track family and friends temporarily while on travel. If you need to have a car in your motorcade drop off for a while, no big deal because they will be able to see where you end up during the whole duration of your trip.

    One the Way

    - Field Trip - Learn about history and fun tips in your current location
    - Ingress - Pick a side and stick with them to battle around the world for property and landmarks.

    - Foursquare - My personal favorite. Find shops, restaurants, and venues in your location and they the best tips from those who have been there before.

    Making memories

    - Prisma - Artificial Intelligence for your photos. Turn every photo you take on vacation into a fun work of art.
    - Snapchat - Use fun holiday and location filters to add some spice to sharing your fun weekend pictures with family and friends.
