We are starting off 2017 the way the podcast was originally intended. We will hopefully be having interviews of people just like you using technology in their life, family, and business. In future episodes we will discuss with guests the tools they use currently or want to use in the future as well as possibly hash out an issue or frustration they are experiencing at the moment.

Training videos are also continually in the works. With support and feedback from you we can create the content that you care most about.
Last week we had the amazing opportunity to travel to Las Vegas for the Amazon Web Services (AWS) re:Invent Conference where across 3 casinos there was training, workshops, certifications and so much more. All the sessions and training were specific to one of the many offerings Amazon has in their AWS package. It was hard to really get the most out of the conference cause there was so much information to learn and sessions to attend.

In this week's episode, we just skim the surface of a few services that you in your personal/family life or small business could take advantage of. There are so many to pick from so we talk about Cloud computing and Storage. In future episodes we will take some time to dig into the many other offerings and what you could do with them as well as what we here at the podcast and Comrade Technology for what we can offer you.

If you have any questions about AWS offerings, what we talk about in this weeks episode, or any other cloud platform, please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss how you can take advantage of the cloud. If you are already working in the cloud, AWS, or are interested post in the comments and share your stories and questions.

We look forward to hearing from you and helping any way we can. In the mean time jump over to your AWS post on Comrade Tech to learn more about our trip to the conference last week in Las Vegas.

Learn more about AWS: https://aws.amazon.com/

Become an AWS Developer: https://developer.amazon.com/

AWS Ten Minute Tutorials: https://aws.amazon.com/getting-started/tutorials/

Understanding AWS: https://aws.amazon.com/what-is-aws/

If you are an Amazon Alexa user on any of her enabled devices, be sure to keep an eye out for our Flash Briefing and Podcast Skill.
Travel can be stressful. There are hundreds of apps you could use to manage agendas, trip itineraries, and sight-seeing plans. I just spent the week in Las Vegas at AWS re:Invent (more on that later) and I used 5 apps to keep my trip organized and know where I needed to go and what I should be doing for nightlife.

The 5 apps I briefly discuss are:

Google Maps (Directions)

Google Trips (Ticketing, Reservations, and Planning)

Credntia (Identification, Rewards, Credit Cards)

TickTick (Checklist, Organization)

Social Location Apps (Activities, Dining, Attractions)

Foursquare

Swarm

Yelp

Trip Advisor

Google Local

There are many more tools for keeping all of your travel plans organized but I find these 5 to be the best 5 by far.

What apps do you use for travel planning and enjoyment? Comment in the notes to share your travel tips and apps.

====================================================

For show notes and videos about this weeks episode or to request future topics please visit https://technicallylivingpodcast.com

Receive episode notes, links to resources mentioned and exclusive information not mentioned in episodes by joining The Technically Living Newsletter or the Technically Living Facebook Page.

To connect with Ross Wickman visit any of these links:
Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | Snapchat

You can listen and subscribe to Technically Living here:

iTunes | Overcast | Stitcher | Google Play | ACast | RSS

Music: bensound.com

Top 5 Apps for Travel - Tech Short (TS7)

<itunes:author>Ross Wickman</itunes:author><itunes:subtitle>Travel can be stressful.
Video is getting it's second wind. 'Is getting' is already a little past-tense but Snapchat (or Snap Inc.) is taking it to a new level and they are doing what Google failed to do. And that is make wearable technology cool and fashionable.

I don't even have my hands on them yet and I am ridiculously impresses with the feedback and press Snapchat's Spectacles are getting. I cannot wait to get a pair of my own. It is hard to tell what I would actually use them for but I think that is the point. Getting short 10 second clips of some of the most candid moments quickly and easily opens the door for many opportunities.

Imagine for a moment your computer never getting a virus or bogus software installed. Imagine buying a brand new computer on Black Friday or Cyber Monday and 5 years from now it running almost as good as the day you bought it.

Sounds lofty right? Well, it is possible. It is possible to run your computer, keep it secure, and never get a virus without ever needing to buy Anti-Virus software. I still recommend running some form of protection but you should never have to pay for it on your home computer. The free stuff works just fine with this solution in place.

In this week's episode, I talk about THE ONE THING you can do this weekend to make your computer more secure for your entire family.

No one thing will keep you 100% safe but this is hands-down the biggest step you can take for being safe and secure on your computer(s).

Comrade Technology Post

The Statistics on Removing Admin Rights

Home of Future Technically Living Online Training Courses

====================================================

EP 12: Make Your Computer More Secure in 10 Minutes

<itunes:author>Ross Wickman</itunes:author><itunes:subtitle>Imagine for a moment your computer never getting a virus or bogus software installed.
If you're not moving forward, you're moving backward; and my friends, I am happy to announce in this episode that we are moving forward. If you are listening or reading right now, the podcast has a new home at https://technicallylivingpodcast.com

This is a big part of the reason I do not have a full episode for you this week. The other part is we are working with some partnerships and sponsorships to keep the podcast moving forward.

In order to really keep moving, I need you to share with more people. You've done great so far but I could use a little push. From this episode release to Thanksgiving, I am running a contest to see which listener can get the most people to subscribe to the Technically Living Newsletter.

What's in it for you?

I will give $25 dollars Amazon Cash to the person who has the most newsletter referrals. Then the first 15 of those referrals will all get $5 Amazon Cash as well. All you need to do is forward this post to them, have them go here: http://rwick.it/tlpnewsletter and put your email in the Referral Block.

Once they are subscribed to the newsletter, they can be in the contest as well. This podcast is for you and growing because of you. Thank you all for the support.

====================================================

For show notes and videos about this weeks episode or to request future topics please visit https://technicallylivingpodcast.com

Receive episode notes, links to resources mentioned and exclusive information not mentioned in episodes by joining The Technically Living Newsletter.

To connect with Ross Wickman visit any of these links:
Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | Snapchat

You can listen and subscribe to Technically Living here:
iTunes | Overcast | Stitcher | Google Play | ACast | RSS

Music: bensound.com

The Technically Living Podcast Has A New Home

<itunes:author>Ross Wickman</itunes:author><itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>00:06:06</itunes:duration><itunes:image href="http://static1.squarespace.com/static/580c9a32e3df28929eaa9599/5818ebd96b8f5bc983033f17/581b7346c534a5f634c2006e/1478553064356/1500w/tech-living-new-home.jpeg"/>

EP 10: Massive Internet Outage.
As an individual you might wonder “Why would someone want my information?” or “What could a hacker get out of having access to my account?” The truth is, it’s nothing personal 99% of the time. Nefarious people (hackers) might find your information as a result of a recent breach of a major service provider or they may be targeting an organization through a Phishing Campaign, Social Engineering or a vulnerable website. The damage that can be done with a single set of usernames and passwords is paramount.

In this week's episode, I run down a few reasons why it's more than just access to an account you have and share some tips and tools to help you generate better passwords.

Password meters

https://password.kaspersky.com/

https://howsecureismypassword.net/

Hacked/Affected account lookup

https://password.kaspersky.com/

https://haveibeenpwned.com/

https://breachalarm.com/

Used to show how easy it would be to hack other accounts if you use the same password everywhere

https://namechk.com/

https://namecheck.com/

Password Keepers & Creation Tools

https://lastpass.com/

https://www.dashlane.com/

https://1password.com/

Historical Password Posts

veryone needs a change sometimes - Comrade Technology April 2014

It's Time to Go Green - Comrade Technology July 2015

====================================================

You can listen and subscribe to Technically Living here:
iTunes | Overcast | Stitcher | Google Play | RSS

Music: bensound.com

EP 9: Good P@$$w0rDs?
There is light at the end of the tunnel I promise you. However, for the next couple years yet we are all going to be stuck with having to remember a bunch of passwords for a whole plethora of accounts. Some of which we only access once or twice a year.

October is National Cyber Awareness Month and in this week's episode, I will share some tools and tips on setting great passwords, using different ones on each site, and most importantly discuss why it is so important to follow all these standards for password creation in the first place.

I GET IT. You're sick of all this security talk. Why can't companies figure it out and protect your information better?

That is a really good question.

...and I don't have a solid answer for you. For instance, at the end of last month (Sept 22nd) Yahoo! announced that upwards of 500 million of their accounts have been stolen in a hack. The sickening part is they could have been taken 2 years ago and Yahoo! is just now announcing it.

Here's what you can do between now and the week's episode of Technically Living:

We've all been there, having to pay someone back for that soda they bought you or for picking up the dinner tab because you actually did forget your wallet. Maybe you left it in your other purse - who knows? The fact is you owe someone money for something and you just assume get it taken care of immediately.

YOU HATE OWING PEOPLE MONEY

...but now you don't have to worry about that any longer.

PayPal has been around for years, but most don't realize they can use it for more than just paying merchants for products online or that auction they won on eBay. Apps like PayPal have completely transformed the way person-to-person payments can be made.

More recently apps like Venmo (venmo.com) and Square Cash - by Square (cash.me) have made it as simple as a single click to pay friends and family money right from your mobile device.

If you've never heard of those apps, or even if you have and said you've never try something like that, there is a really good chance you already have an app capable of making these payments. That's right! If you use Facebook or Snapchat, these apps already have this feature available. You can configure a debit or credit card in the settings and now with a couple clicks, you are always able to pay that friend back for the tab they picked up.

If you are an iPhone user and have recently updated to iOS 10, there are companion apps such as Circle that will allow you send payments directly from iMessage.

Don't ever want to carry your wallet with you again? We are almost there. Now is the time to configure and start using your device's built-in payment systems such as Android Pay or Apple Pay for making simple payments at gas stations and other convenience stores.

====================================================

You can listen and subscribe to Technically Living here:
iTunes | Overcast | Stitcher | Google Play | RSS

Music: bensound.com

EP 8: Pay Friends and Family with a Single Click

<itunes:author>Ross Wickman</itunes:author><itunes:subtitle>We've all been there, having to pay someone back for that soda they bought you or for picking up the dinner tab because you actually did forget your wallet.
This is Part 2 and the wrap-up of the question - What is the cloud?
