I recently got to try out the new Baby Kiss & Coo DVDs.

Baby Kiss & Coo™ was founded by Ms. Gianni, a busy Los Angeles mother of three boys, who noticed her first baby's fascination with shadows cast through the window at sunset by a banana plant. In the evening, after work, she would hold her son in her arms, play classical music while they looked out their living room window. The baby was calm and engaged. When the plant's shadows and music worked the same magic on her twin boys two years later, Laura knew there had to be a reason for this response.
With this in mind, Laura set out to replicate that same calming scene – silhouettes set against the beautiful colors of the Pacific Ocean at sunset while classical music plays in the background – and share it with other parents and their babies. It was then that the Baby Kiss & Coo™ line was born to help engage, soothe and stimulate a baby's senses.
What I say:
I was skeptical. And even more so once I put the DVD on. I changing pastel background with black clip art floating slowly across the screen? Even if it is set to music by Bach, Mendelssohn and Rameau? But then my husband carried my eight month old into the room and put her on her playmat...
And she sat TRANSFIXED! She loved it!
So while this is a very simple DVD, and the type of thing I kick myself thinking “I should have been able to make this myself”, (and then I remind myself that I don’t have video editing software or the desire to send black clip art images floating around on my tv screen) …. So it’s a pretty neat little DVD. I might well give one at a baby shower in the future!
On a different note, does anyone else get bothered by the big dark blackness of a powered off tv when you’re having guests? But you don’t want to turn it on for fear of distracting everyone? This would be an interesting moving picture in the background, and except for the diaper –clad set, unlikely to distract anyone from conversation. And of course scallop shells and lobsters and starfish could be very appropriate for a seafood themed dinner party. :-)

, had quite a few for me! The subtitle of this book says it all “Delicious Latin Recipes for Effortless Entertaining”. The Baby Spinach Salad with Melon, Almonds and Serrano Ham looks sooo tasty – I might bring a variation to a Christmas party next weekend. And while this little Protestant girl has never celebrated Epiphany, the almond sweet bread (Rosca de Reyes) just might hit the spot the week after New Years anyway.
