Power Asia Pacific 2009 Philippines Customer Service Index (CSI) StudySM released today.

The study, now in its ninth year and redesigned for 2009, measures customer satisfaction with authorized dealer after-sales service in the Philippines by examining five key factors: service quality; vehicle pickup; service initiation; service advisor; and service facility. Customer service performance is reported as an index score based on a 1,000-point scale.

Among the 11 manufacturers included in the study, Honda and Mitsubishi rank highest in a tie, each receiving a score of 814. Honda performs particularly well in the vehicle pickup, service initiation, service advisor and service facility factors. Mitsubishi performs particularly well in service quality, which has the greatest impact on overall customer service satisfaction. Nissan ranks third with a score of 810, followed by Kia, Mazda and Toyota, respectively. The six vehicle makes round out the manufacturers performing above the industry average.

The study finds that consistent implementation of standard operating procedures have a direct impact on overall satisfaction. The study identifies 22 dealer practices that enhance the service experience for customers. These procedures can range from the comfort level of the service facility, convenience of operating hours and after-sales service, to the sales advisor’s overall competency in dealing with customers.

The study also reveals that customer satisfaction levels are high when dealers perform at least 19 of the 22 service standard procedures. Satisfaction scores fall below average for manufacturers whose dealerships failed to meet 19 standards.

In addition, satisfaction is lowest among customers whose dealer performed 14 or fewer standards. These customers have an average index score of 677, which is 125 points below the industry average. Conversely, among customers receiving at least 21 standards, the average score is 832—30 points above the industry average. In 2009, only 30 percent of customers report that their dealer performed at least 21 standards during their past service visit.

“The low percentage of customers receiving at least 21 standards is clear evidence that dealers have much room for improvement,” said Taku Kimoto, general manager for the Philippines at J.D. Power Asia Pacific, Singapore. “Maintaining a high rate of implementation for these standards is the key to delighting customers.”

Additionally, the standard operating procedures that have the most considerable differences in performance by manufacturer are related to communication. These include contacting customers after service is performed; informing customers when the vehicle is ready for pickup; and notifying customers about routine maintenance needs. Among the lowest-ranking manufacturers, these three procedures all have low implementation rates.

“The customer service experience is not limited to customer visits for routine maintenance,” said Kimoto. “Proactively staying in touch with customers is a great opportunity for dealers to make a lasting impression and to sustain customer loyalty.”

The study also finds that customers who are highly satisfied (satisfaction scores average 872 or higher) have the highest levels of advocacy and loyalty to both the vehicle brand and dealer. Nearly 70 percent of customers who report that they are highly satisfied with their dealer’s service performance say they “definitely will” revisit the dealer for post-warranty service, compared with the industry average of 51 percent. Additionally, 60 percent of highly satisfied customers say they “definitely will” purchase their next vehicle from the service dealer, compared with the industry average of only 44 percent.

The 2009 Philippines Customer Service Index (CSI) Study measures the overall satisfaction of vehicle owners who visited an authorized dealer/service center for maintenance and repair work during the first 12 to 24 months of ownership. The study is based on responses from 1,604 new-vehicle owners who purchased their vehicles between January 2007 and March 2008 and took their vehicle for service to an authorized dealer or service center between July 2008 and March 2009. The study was fielded between January 2009 and March 2009.

Mazda3 Limited Series boasts of a complete vehicle package perfect for today’s highly active and urban lifestyle. Mazda3 has been ranked No.1 in quality in the midsize car segment by the J.D. Powers Asia Pacific 2008 Thailand Initial Quality Study, a proof of its excellent driving performance and stylish design that has been widely acclaimed by customers all over the world.

Launched in June 2003, the Mazda3 has become a widely popular compact vehicle that has sold in more than 101 countries. Moreover, it has won 94 global automotive awards to date – including car of the year awards in several countries – an indication of the great reputation the Mazda3 enjoys with customers and journalists alike. Throughout the years, Mazda3 has established itself as a superb statement of automotive engineering, designed and built to enrich the driving experience on the road.

Mazda3 Limited Series: reinforcements like no other

“The Mazda3 has always been known for its spirited and sporty performance as well as its edgy looks. The Mazda3 Limited Series comes with appointments that truly befit the nameplate as well as its discerning customer,” says Mazda Philippines Brand Manager Prudz Castillo. To give the Mazda3 a sportier impression and to improve its aerodynamics, the Mazda design team presents a floating type rear spoiler for the Mazda3 1.6L S Limited variant while the Mazda3 1.6L V Limited, on the other hand, has been equipped with a lip type rear spoiler. The Mazda3 1.6 L S variant has been given new front fog lamps therefore boosting Mazda3’s stature as a benchmark for style. Side skirts are added for both variants, too. Add to these is the chrome exhaust finisher that is engineered for durability under high-heat conditions at the same time giving both variants more refined looks. These are the reinforcements that the Mazda3 Limited Series has to offer making Mazda3 as the finest brand ambassador of Mazda because of its sheer power, class leading features, and bold styling. There’s no denying that Mazda3’s outside charm is undeniably intense and edgy with enhancements like these that are captured exquisitely and intensely in this limited series.

The Mazda3 Limited Series offers the same punchy and edgy performance that Mazda3 has been known for. Equipped with a Mazda-branded MZR engine that assures up to 105 hp and torques at 145 Nm, Mazda3 ensures an optimum power to match your journey giving you a driving experience that is linear, lively and torquey. This MZR engine is paired with a 4-speed Activematic transmission that gives you the best of both worlds – full automatic for relaxed driving in the city or semi-manual shifting for a stirringly sporty drive. Mazda3 feels very refined and responsive for it is quipped with an ultra-rigid body and a well balanced suspension.

Impressive fuel economy

Bold styling. Spirited driving. Add to that is an impressive fuel economy, Mazda3 Limited Series is a Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) with a rating of E20 which means it can accept gasoline mixed with up to 20% Ethanol. “Mazda is committed to offering vehicles that are fun to drive while balancing driving pleasure with eco-friendly and safety features that are in line with Mazda’s long-term vision which is, “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom”, said Anika Salceda, Assistant Vice-President for Corporate Communications of Ford Group Philippines.

The two-day Mazda Zoom Fest held across Mazda dealerships also saw the debut of the New Mazda MX-5 which has been redesigned to give it a sharper and a sportier character. It also boasts of an engine that can rev up to 7,500 rpm up 500 from its current version. Classic roadsters from Miata Club Philippines were displayed in the Mazda dealerships of Greenhills and Quezon Avenue while Mazdatech Club Philippines and Club Mazda3 showcased tricked-out machines in Mazda Makati. The amazing Mazda BT-50 – TRS Drift Truck were also showcased in the dealerships of Alabang and Pampanga.

Mazda enthusiasts who trooped to the different Mazda dealers last weekend were treated to hot deals like the All-in Downpayment offers for the different Mazda nameplates and discounts on parts and services. Aside from these exciting treats, car lovers got a chance to win premium items for every test drive of their favorite Mazda vehicles.

Drive on the road to exhilaration with the Mazda3 Limited Series!
There are songs you hear in your life that transport you to a certain time period or give you a special feeling. You associate those good times to the group that made them famous. Songs like “I’d Really Love To See You Tonight,” “Nights Are Forever Without You” and “Love Is The Answer” have that kind of effect on people. Those songs and numerous others have made John Ford Coley a singing legend. He has spent decades touring, writing, recording, and producing. John is most revered as half of the Grammy nominated duo England Dan and John Ford Coley. He continues with an active roster performing the platinum and gold record hits for audiences around the world. Classically trained on piano and an avid guitarist, John loves the craft and enjoys every audience he encounters. With double platinum and gold records behind him, John has also produced other artists. John recorded a live album while he was on tour in the Philippines with many of the hits. It is available on the internet, and at concerts. John is currently going into the studio to record new material for an acoustic album. Some of John Ford Coley’s hits are as follows: “Love Is The Answer”, “Gone Too Far”, “I’d Really Love To See You Tonight”, “We’ll Never Have To Say Goodbye Again”, “Nights Are Forever Without You”, “Soldier In The Rain”, “Come Back To Me”, “Sad To Belong”, “Simone”, “Westward Wind”, “Part of Me, Part of You.” Some of John’s songs have appeared in feature films such as “Nights are Forever Without You” in “Dickie Roberts Former Child Star”. Another hit “I’d Really Love To See You Tonight” appeared in the film “Long Kiss Goodnight” with Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson.

In an interview, Lexus president Daniel M. Isla said that from an initial target of 300 units for their first year, they have revised it to 200 and then lowered it further to 172 units.

“Oil prices are unfavorable right now and it is creating a negative perception,” Isla said in an interview. “Second quarter is more critical and challenging,” he added.

Isla reported that their sales have reached 79 units with the sports utility vehicle as the best seller.

He likewise announced that Lexus will be coming out with a new model a sports car worth P4 million. He said the model will come out in the third quarter.

“We are confident that the luxury market will still be there. The high end market is only slightly affected (by the financial crisis) and not severely,” Isla said. “The rich are somewhat insulated (from the effects of the crisis),” he added.

Lexus already has five models in the country priced between P2.9 million to P8 million. Lexus is looking at going head to head with Mercedes Benz S-Class.

“Filipinos will now be afforded the opportunity to see and experience the luxury that only Lexus brand provides. Lexus will be offered in five different models namely LS460L, GS460, ES350, IS300 and LX570,” Isla explained.

Isla said Lexus is looking at getting a substantial share of the luxury market which makes up 1.4 percent of the total auto industry.

He said the luxury market is not expected to get smaller even if demand for other vehicles declined. In fact, he said during the 1997 Asian financial crisis the demand did not move significantly.

Lexus Manila Inc. is a separate entity from Toyota although Toyota Motor Philippines owns 75 percent of the firm while the remaining 25 percent is owned by Mitsui.

The 1.8-liter third generation gasoline-electric hybrid can get up to 38 kilometers per liter and significantly cuts down on carbon emissions, meeting the strictest emission-reduction standards worldwide.

But going green in the Philippines doesn’t come cheap. The Prius has a price tag of P2.2 million, about half of it going to taxes – import duties, excise taxes, and value-added tax (VAT). This is more than double its price in Japan of $20,900.

“Toyota believes that a lot more customers would benefit if a special tax incentive will be given for the Prius to bring its cost down,” said Raymond Rodriguez, first vice president for vehicle sales operations of Toyota Motor Philippines Corp.

There are moves to provide incentives to environment-friendly vehicles.

House Bill 2084 authored by Ilocos Norte Rep. Ronald Singson, son of former Ilocos Norte governor and now deputy national security adviser Luis “Chavit” Singson, seeks to give importers and manufacturers of hybrid vehicles a break on duties and taxes. While the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and Toyota Philippines have made presentations before the House of Representatives’ ways and means committee chaired by Antique Rep. Exequiel Javier, the committee has yet to hold formal hearings on the bill.

Last April, the Japanese government implemented significant tax breaks for environment-friendly cars, both as a means to stimulate the economy and to encourage green technology.

As a result, data from the Japan Automobile Dealers’ Association showed that Toyota sold 10,915 units of the Prius in May, more than five times the number sold in the previous month.

Toyota dealers in Japan have reportedly placed orders for a total of 110,000 units of Prius for the year.

Hiroshi Ito, president of Toyota Philippines, said that by the end of last year, “combined Toyota and Lexus hybrid cumulative global sales reached 1.7 million units, 70 percent of which are Prius.”

The 1.7 million hybrid vehicles are estimated to have taken nine million tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The first Prius went on sale in Japan in December 1997.

Alfred Ty, vice chairman of Toyota Philippines, earlier told The STAR that they started working on bringing the Prius to the Philippine market as early as three years ago.

But there were initial concerns about the adaptability of the hybrid to local conditions, specifically the bad roads and floods.

Rodriguez assured us that with the improvements incorporated into the third generation Prius, these concerns – as well as those related to temperature and humidity – have all been addressed and are no longer an issue.

Toyota Philippines is targeting sales of 100 units of Prius this year. While acknowledging that the Prius is a “specialty product targeting a very niche market,” Rodriguez nevertheless said that “is always a good time to introduce an eco-friendly product, especially now that there is greater awareness on environmental preservation.”

Reports from CAMPI show that there has been no drastic decline in the automotive market. As of May 2009, the market only registered negative growth of 4 percent compared to the same period last year.

The Prius, the global pioneer and standard for hybrid technology, allows the car to run solely on its gasoline-operated engine, its electric motor, or a combination of both. Its new shape allows for maximum aerodynamic efficiency, and the aluminum and high-tensile steel makes the car lighter, sleeker and more stylish.

Waiting for incentives

The hefty price tag of P2.25 million of the hybrid car Toyota Prius is expected to go down once the government grants fiscal incentive to the distributor, Ito said.

During the car’s launch Friday evening, Ito revealed that more than 30 percent of the cost of the car goes to the national government in the form of taxes.

Ito said that they are paying three kinds of tax to the government, the import tax, the excise tax and the value added tax.

The executive said that the auto industry has already requested for incentives from the government for this environmental friendly car but there is still no response from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

“Once the incentive is introduced the price may go down,” he noted.

Likewise, Ito said that the Prius is not covered by the perks granted under the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA) because it runs on 1.8 liters and not the 2.0 liters.

The launch came in spite of the slowdown in consumer demand which has affected the local automotive industry.

Even though hybrid cars are more expensive, Ito said they have been getting inquiries regarding hybrid vehicles. “There is a demand,” Ito said.

Jiangling Motors Company (JMC) is one of the largest automotive brands in China with an annual production of 100,000 units. It exports its line of American and Japanese licensed vehicles to more than 60 countries worldwide in regions such as the Middle East, North Africa, Central and South America, Russia, and Southeast Asia. JMC has also displayed its pickup trucks, SUVs, and commercial vehicle lineups at the Frankfurt, Russia, Egypt, and Paris motorshows.

The partnership of DREAMCO with Jiangling-Isuzu Motors Company Limited and Jiangling Motors Import & Export Ltd. marks a commitment to providing excellent automotive products. This is supported by an extensive, nationwide dealership network and aftersales support for long-term reliability and lower owning and operating costs.

In the mid-1980s, JMC took the lead in introducing internationally advanced truck technology, producing Isuzu vehicles and becoming a main manufacturer of light duty trucks. It was the first company to introduce Ford Motor Company in China, becoming a strategic cooperative partner through ADRS. JMC has also passed the compulsory national product certification (3C) and ISO 9001 and ISO 14000 environment protection systems.

Since then, Jiangling Motors Corporation, Jiangling – Isuzu Motor Co. Ltd. and Jiangling Motor Import & Export Co. Ltd. have been producing cab and chassis compartments and components for light trucks under a joint venture with Ford Motor Co., Isuzu Motors Corp. and Itochu Corp., Japan.

The initial Philippine market lineup consists of the “JMC COMPADRE” series light trucks and “JMC N301 HUNTER” pickup truck series.

The “JMC COMPADRE” is available in three different variants: JMH, JMK4 and JMK6. These are direct injection, diesel-powered, cab-chassis light commercial vehicles that can be configured for a multitude of tasks and business applications.

The “JMC N301 HUNTER” pickup truck series complements the commercial vehicle lineup and will be available in four variants: single cabin 4×2, single cabin 4×4, double cabin 4×2, and double cabin 4×4.

JMC is proud of the fact that its vehicles incorporate Japanese design and technologies, with components specifically manufactured by its dozens of JMC subsidiaries; modern, first-class production lines for engines, casting, stamping and body assembling.

JMC thereby sets a higher and more consistent level of quality compared to other Chinese automotive manufacturers that assemble vehicles from a multitude of generic component suppliers and which assemble and market such vehicles under a single brand.

“JMC COMPADRE” series light trucks are imported in Knocked Down (KD) form by DREAMCO Automobile Company Inc. These are then assembled at its facility in Laguna Technopark, utilizing highly skilled Filipino technicians under strict ISO9001 quality system standards.

Local assembly of the “JMC COMPADRE” series light trucks assures local customers of the same, high-quality workmanship as the popular Japanese light commercial vehicles being assembled side-by-side in the same plant.

DREAMCO is a member of the Truck Manufacturer Association (TMA) and is registered with the Board of Investments (BOI) under the Motor Vehicle Development Program (MVDP). DREAMCO is a 100% Filipino-owned corporation, run by a professional group which has been in the automotive business for more than 50 years.

However, their three-box shapes make them seem more like aerodynamic bricks, making them less fuel efficient and thus making them less environment friendly.

Suzuki knows that the global trend towards super compact, fuel efficient and space saving cars is increasing further by the day, and offers a new solution to that growing need – the new Suzuki Celerio.

The new Suzuki Celerio totes an aerodynamic, boy-racer look that yuppies crave since it looks like it could cheat the wind. The new body shape promotes better fuel consumption because of the potential for less drag – due to a wedge-shaped profile and a steeply raked windshield – particularly at high speeds. A boldly shaped grille creates a further impressive front fascia, and complementing the look even more are large halogen multi-reflector headlights and foglights. And to finish off the sporty look, the new Suzuki Celerio comes in five environmentally inspired exterior colors – Arctic White Pearl Metallic, Silky Silver Metallic, Desert Brown Metallic, Fortune Rose Pearl Metallic, and Paradise Blue Pearl Metallic.

The cabin sports a classy finish, with generous use of various materials in a two-tone grey approach. A sporty, functional and stylish dashboard layout enables the driver to have confidence when taking on the tarmac. The tachometer or rev counter is separately mounted on the dashboard to further add to the sporty approach of the interior. Fabric bucket seats offer a comfortable ride, and keeps occupants firmly planted on their backsides during lateral motion. Dimensions of 3,500 mm (length), 1,600 mm (width) and 1,470 mm (height) add up to the unit’s spacious feeling. The cargo area has the ability to swallow two to three medium sized travel bags, and the rear seats split fold 50/50 to swallow larger items.

Suzuki’s experience in making peppy but fuel parsimonious straight three engines also translates to the new Suzuki Celerio. Its naturally aspirated, newly-developed 1.0L 12-valve three cylinder gasoline scoots around town with ease. The compact dimensions of the engine block helps shave off precious kilograms that can result in increased fuel mileage, and the new Suzuki Celerio’s Euro 3-rated emissions level is the best in its class. Mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed gate type automatic transmission, attaining its 68 horsepower and 90 NM power stats is done quick and easy.

Normally, mini compacts offer harsh ride comfort, but the new Suzuki Celerio makes sure that all occupants won’t feel like their backsides are constantly assaulted by multiple fists during trips. A MacPherson strut setup for the front and a three-link rigid suspension for the rear provide great ride comfort, helped immensely by a 2,360 mm wheelbase, 14-inch rims with full wheel caps and 155/65R14 tires. Shedding speed also isn’t a problem, as ventilated disc brakes for the front wheels and drum brakes for the rear wheels – plus the presence of an anti-lock brake system or ABS (with electronic brakeforce distribution or EBD) – provide superior deceleration. In case of an accident, dual front airbags and side impact beams ensure that all passengers are protected in a safe cocoon.

The superior aerodynamics, newfound driving dynamism and topflight ergonomics befitting its class make the new Suzuki Celerio an environment-friendly, mighty micro machine.

There was nothing like it in its class. Needless to say it became a huge success. With the recent release of the second generation Jazz, Honda’s revolutionary product has stepped gracefully into the next phase of hatchback evolution. It is now more versatile and multi-faceted, making it an ideal option for those with a demanding and unpredictable lifestyle.

The Jazz is a premier example of Honda’s clever space planning by using central fuel tank layout to optimize cabin space and maintain ease of maneuverability. The 2nd generation Jazz is now wider and longer, offering even more options for the metropolitan on the go.

As a young professional with the signature spiky hairstyle or English faux-hawk, you can sit in comfort knowing the roof of the car won’t brush your painstakingly acquired ‘do. Every detail is accounted for in Honda’s design. It has loads of compartments to meet your ever demanding lifestyle needs – from extra pair of shades, cologne and even assorted hair products. The Jazz also has a total of ten cup holders for any drink you need at hand and a coin holder for spare change you hate to keep in your pocket.

With your hectic job requiring you to attend one appointment to another, Honda brings driving pleasure right at your fingertips with the help of its race-inspired paddle shift. This innovation enables manual shifting of gears without the clutch. It is located behind the wheel to make gear-shifting easily accessible and safe.

The relatively small 5.2 m turning radius of this car gives you a versatile drive. Navigation of those tiny parking lots and backstreets, where every building’s service entrance seems to be located, become one less thing for you to worry about. For those extra horrible work days when the supplier can’t deliver an unusually shaped load themselves, the variations of storage capacity and cargo adaptable options make this innovation of Honda a godsend. The ULTRA seats can transform from ride friendly to load friendly with just one easy pull. This clever concept of easily changeable seats that fold every which way keep the Jazz ready for anything that you need to be ready for. So that untimely delivery of much needed equipment to the proper destination can be done without the hassle of having to remove headrests or seating.

At the end of the day you can be assured that you are getting the best value for your money. The Jazz sports the i-VTEC engine with high fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions. The class leading 5-speed automatic transmission works with Drive-by-Wire acceleration control for more power while maintaining fuel economy. It has the solid drive and reliability associated with other Hondas but it has versatility unlike any other. With everything that Honda has painstakingly integrated into the design, this hatchback is the companion that is ready when you need to be.
