      <title>Grant Funding Call 01/09: JISC Content Initiative</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;JISC, National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) from the United States, the National Science Foundation (&lt;acronym title='National Science Foundation'&gt;NSF&lt;/acronym&gt;) from the United States, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) from Canada invites institutions to submit proposals for the Digging into Data Challenge. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The goals of this initiative are to:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;promote the development and deployment of innovative research techniques in large-scale data analysis; 
&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;foster interdisciplinary collaboration among scholars in the humanities, social sciences, computer sciences, information sciences and other fields around questions of text and data analysis; 
&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;promote international collaboration; 
&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;work with data repositories that hold large digital collections to ensure efficient access to these materials for research.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The Request for Proposals (RFP) explains how to apply for the Digging into Data Challenge.&amp;nbsp; Please note that there is an RFP addendum with information specific to each funder and this should be read in conjunction with the main RFP. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This initiative is open to international partnerships involving at least two of the three participating countries: Canada, the United States and England or Wales in the United Kingdom.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The JISC is making a total of £200,000 available for this work.&amp;nbsp; Lead institutions in England and Wales may apply for up to £100,000 of funding.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The proposal process is in two stages and interested potential applicants must first send a letter of intent by &lt;strong&gt;15 March 2009.&lt;/strong&gt; The deadline for receipt of the final proposal will be &lt;strong&gt;Wednesday 15 July 2009&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;

      <title>Grant Funding Call 07/09: Data Management Infrastructure</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;Projects to identify requirements for, and then build, infrastructure for effective data management within or across &lt;acronym title="Higher Education Institutions"&gt;HEIs&lt;/acronym&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Funding of up to £250,000 per pilot project&amp;nbsp;is available. The JISC will fund 6-8 projects in total. Funding is available for projects starting from October 2009 for 18 months. All projects must complete by 31 March 2011. The deadline for proposals is &lt;strong&gt;12 noon &lt;/strong&gt;on&amp;nbsp;&lt;strong&gt;Thursday 6 August 2009&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The JISC is holding a community briefing event where potential bidders will be given information about the background to the call, its objectives and the bidding process. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions of JISC executive staff and relevant JISC committee members. This meeting will take place on &lt;b&gt;Monday 6 July 2009&lt;/b&gt;. &lt;p&gt;Proposals may be submitted by Higher Education (&lt;acronym title='Higher Education'&gt;HE&lt;/acronym&gt;) Institutions funded by &lt;acronym title="Higher Education Funding Council for England"&gt;HEFCE&lt;/acronym&gt; or &lt;acronym title="Higher Education Funding Council for Wales"&gt;HEFCW&lt;/acronym&gt;. &lt;acronym title="Higher Education"&gt;HE&lt;/acronym&gt; and &lt;acronym title="Further Education"&gt;FE&lt;/acronym&gt; institutions in Northern Ireland and Scotland and &lt;acronym title="Further Education"&gt;FE&lt;/acronym&gt; institutions in England and Wales are not eligible to bid but may be involved as partners in proposals led by &lt;acronym title="Higher Education"&gt;HE&lt;/acronym&gt; institutions funded by &lt;acronym title="Higher Education Funding Council for England"&gt;HEFCE&lt;/acronym&gt; or &lt;acronym title="Higher Education Funding Council for Wales"&gt;HEFCW&lt;/acronym&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ac/bdIN/~4/hIlU4QfH-2o" height="1" width="1"/&gt;</description>

      <title>JISC ITT Modelling Scholarly Communication Transition</title>
      <description>&lt;p style="LINE-HEIGHT: normal"&gt;The JISC invites tenders to conduct a study to model the costs and benefits of changing scholarly communication practices within UK &lt;acronym title="Higher Education Institutions"&gt;HEIs&lt;/acronym&gt;. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p style="LINE-HEIGHT: normal"&gt;The aims of the study/review are: &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;div class="NoSpacing"&gt;to provide information for university managers on the costs and benefits of changing scholarly communication practices and options, in particular moves toward more open access to research papers;&lt;b&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;div class="NoSpacing"&gt;to tailor this information in case studies applicable to various types of HEI, using actual information supplied by between three and five &lt;acronym title="Higher Education Institutions"&gt;HEIs&lt;/acronym&gt;.&lt;b&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;
