The Cast Inside The Strain: The Master (Episode 13)

Ladies and gentlemen of the undead jury, we’ve finally reached the season one finale of The Strain! There’s no shortage of character moments and huge plot points to cover before we wrap our talk of one of this summer’s hottest shows, and we kick off our discussion by looking back at some of our favorite television finales of all-time.

It’s not long before we get to FX’s hit show though and when we do, we ask the critical question: does The Master deliver on everything we’d hoped for? The finale brings a number of threads full circle as we finally catch up with Gus and his undead Ninja pals as they tease us with a mythology powered agenda. We also watch as Eph and Setrakian both become very desperate with their next attack on the Master’s lair. It all plays out quite well, but the episode still manages to end in an especially frustrating spot. Dustin and I hash out the finer details as we try to decide whether or not the show played things too safe in its final hour.

The Strain‘s first season might be over, but we’ve still got one last discussion to share with you all as we will be bringing you a season one wrap up next week. The Cast Inside The Strain: Last Rites (Episode 12)

The Cast Inside the Strain is back to talk about the penultimate episode of The Strain‘s freshman season. In this week’s discussion, immortality seems to be the topic at hand, as Eldritch Palmer finally achieves his undying dream of escaping death.

Last night’s episode also finally brought Setrakian’s flashbacks full circle, as we witness the story behind his beloved wife’s heart in a jar. Even though the sequence has been widely theorized about, Dustin and I couldn’t come to an agreement on how well it was all executed.

Meanwhile, back in the shop, Eph and the rest of the team finally send out a distress message to the rest of the world before Eichhorst storms the castle and sends our heroes back on the run. Oh, and did I mention that the vampire ninja assassins returned for a blink and you miss it (WTF!) moment? Tune in to hear my complete and utterly dumbfounded reaction.

The Cast Inside The Strain: The Third Rail (Episode 11)

This week’s episode of The Strain finally kicks the season ending face-off into high gear as team Eph leave Zach and Ms. Martinez in the shop as they prepare to take on The Master’s Lair. The Third Rail succeeds as this season’s most intense episode yet, thanks to some tight crawl spaces, vamped out looters, and a couple of UV rave parties, and The Cast Inside The Strain is here to discuss it all.

This episode may have featured some of the best moments of the series so far, but Dustin and I get into a heated discussion about this week’s B-plot featuring Zach’s misadventures to find cigarettes for Ms. Martinez. How much can one storyline really ruin an episode? Tune in to hear our arguments for and against the great cigarette escapade.

Now that we’ve entered the homestretch this season, main characters seem to be in even more danger than ever. There’s a lot on the line as Dustin and I take a stab at some predictions for who lives, who dies, and who moves onto the next season. Can Eph and Setrakian both make it through the first season, or is one of them doomed to bite the bullet? Take a listen to our guesses in the ever ominous game of death.

The Cast Inside The Strain: Loved Ones (Episode 10)

In this week’s instalment of The Cast Inside the Strain, we jump straight into last night’s episode, Loved Ones, and we argue whether or not Kelly’s flashback adventures are really worth the trip.

This week’s episode of The Strain may come up a bit short, but there’s no shortage of interesting tidbits to discuss. While Eph is out searching for Kelly, Setrakian begins planning an assault on the Master’s lair. Meanwhile, Vasiliy and Dutch attempt to undo the computer hack by breaking into the Stoneheart Group. Also, Palmer’s ever loyal butler and bodyguard Fitzwilliam reveals his true colors, which leads Dustin and I to choosing our very own bodyguards for the vampire apocalypse.

The Cast Inside The Strain: The Disappeared (Episode 9)

This week’s episode of The Strain was packed so tight with melodrama and reveals that we couldn’t wait to crack open our latest predictions. On this instalment of The Cast Inside the Strain, Dustin and I argue the merits of the Master’s look before delving into all of the shenanigans going on in the Kelly Goodweather household.

Setrakian, Dutch, Vasiliy, and Zach (is Eph dad of the year or what?) head back to the antique shop to regroup and plan their next move, while Eph and Nora stay behind to burn the body of the decapitated Matt Sayles.

This week’s episode also concluded the flashback bromance of the Eichorst and Setrakian relationship in the concentration camp by revealing the lonely German’s true dedication to the Master. In our deathly predictions, we remember how Matt Sayles finally bit the big one while trying to decide whether or not we’ve seen the last of Gus’s right hand man, Felix.

The Disappeared was certainly an episode that was dark and full of terrors, but The Cast Inside the Strain has it all covered in our analysis and pop reference filled vampire discussion.

The Cast Inside The Strain: Creatures Of The Night (Episode 8)

This week’s episode of The Strain threw team Eph, everyone’s favorite rat exterminator Vasiliy Fet, and the elite computer hacker Dutch Velders together in a gas station surrounded by vampires for one of the most intense instalments of the show yet.

This episode may not have done much to advance the overarching plot, but it looks like it’s bringing a number of these long running subplots back together as we head into the final act of this action packed first season. Creatures of the Night is charged with character moments, molotov throwing action, and a death nobody saw coming this episode. It’s got The Strain back on track as it heads into the season’s eventual endgame with The Master.

The Cast Inside The Strain: For Services Rendered (Episode 7)

The Strain ended with a massive vampire-ninja filled twist last night and we’re here to discuss it in-depth on this week’s episode of The Cast Inside the Strain.

For Services Rendered actually featured a number of exciting storylines outside of that awesome ending, as team Eph decides to use Jim Kent in an attempt to lure Eichhorst into a trap so that they can find the Master. This finally leads to a quick faceoff between Abraham and Eichhorst, which had even more weight after this week’s game changing flashbacks. Speaking of the 1940s concentration camp, how about the big reveal with the box?

The Cast Inside The Strain: Occultation (Episode 6)

In this week’s discussion on The Cast Inside the Strain, we talk about the chaotic outbreak that finally hit the streets on the latest episode of FX’s hit show, The Strain. Vasiliy cleans house with his infected office while Abraham takes out an entire family of those who have been turned. It’s the episode we’ve all been waiting for, as the infection ramps up just in time for the ever ominous eclipse.

This week’s episode wasn’t just all about the infected though, as it also takes a moment to give our favorite rat killer Vasiliy some father and son time in the midst of the apocalypse and also finds Eichhorst continuing to pull Gus’ strings, as our favorite smuggler is in for another job.

“Occultation” is chalk full of moments to discuss and Dustin and I get heated as we break down each scene and predict where things will head next.

Welcome back for another episode of The Cast Inside The Strain! In this week’s discussion, we talk vampire fighting 101 as taught by professor Abraham Sectrakian. It’s a heated conversation and you won’t want to miss it as Dustin and I argue the merits of style and substance in our personal battles with these creatures of the night.

Of course, we also review the latest episode of The Strain, “Runaways,” which was jam packed with plot points as the vampiric outbreak finally begins to reach the masses. We check in with all three of the flight survivors and learn that there’s a bit more to Nora than meets the eye.

The Cast Inside The Strain: It’s Not For Everyone (Episode 4)

The Cast Inside the Strain is joined by very special guest Drew Nelson this week for a fantastic interview before we jump in and review Sunday’s action packed episode, It’s Not For Everyone!

Nelson is a hot up and comer who has guest starred in Suits, Supernatural, Smallville and Fringe, but fans of The Strain know him as none other than Kelly Goodweather’s romantic interest, Matt Sayles. We talk to Drew about his history with the role, the juicy on-set stories, and his favorite part about working with Del Toro and Corey Stoll. This is one interview you won’t want to miss!

Later on, we dive into this week’s episode of The Strain, where things really take off as Eph and company finally get their shot at the gross-out autopsy of the year. The Cast Inside The Strain: Gone Smooth (Episode 3)

The Cast Inside The Strain is back to dive into the latest episode of Guillermo Del Toro’s The Strain. This week’s outing, Gone Smooth, continues to give us an uncomfortable slow burning sensation as the inevitable vampire pandemic continues to build to an explosive game changing climax(or so we hope). Even though it may feel like it’s crawling to the eventual starting line, the latest episode packed in some great character beats and some of the biggest gross out moments yet.

This week’s episode of The Strain blows the lid off of Jim Kent’s motives to leak CDC info and Dustin and I try and decide if we’d trade our loved ones at the risk of a vampire outbreak. The Goodweather custody battle over Zach continues as wel,l while our good friend the pilot and the sex crazed rockstar continue to lose their minds and maybe even a bit of their manhood.

Gone Smooth is the most nauseating episode of the season so far this season, and you won’t want to miss our in-depth analysis and discussion on it.
