Even in the cold north that is Norway, winter has finally given way to spring. Beltane is my favourite pagan festival, and I am so happy it is here again. We have had a long, hard winter this year, and the birch trees are still bare. I expect the leaves will be bursting forth now anytime in the next month. The days are growing longer and the promise of warmer days is hanging in the air.

There are many ways – we can measure success by job titles, promotions, houses, cars, clothes, children, partners, the list goes on. I think that rather than these ways of measuring success being wrong, they are a bit lop-sided. After all these things or people aren’t me but they may say something about me. There’s a slight difference there. My point is that rather than the promotion or partner being a trophy in themselves, they can help reflect that I am indeed in a good place with myself. My belief is that if I’m in a good place with myself, everything else will fall into place. If I’m being true to myself, and constantly striving towards becoming a better person, then I’ll enable or allow other good things to happen in my life.

I'm 33, no children, and not sure what my hormone issues are. About 5 months ago I developed cystic acne, mostly on my chin, and extremely oily skin all over. My menstrual cycles also went from 24 days to 20 - 22 days and my libido went down to zero.

I noticed quite a bit of water retention in the week leading up to my period starting, and felt sluggish and tired. This bleed is a purge, I can feel it. Now the heaviest day of bleeding is over, I am feeling lighter and cleansed. I have made sure I have taken time to rest, to be with friends and family, and to look after myself. Eating nourishing food, making fresh juices and meditating are a must for me, especially when I have my moon blood.

A while back, a friend introduced me to the herbal teas made by Bozhena Orekhova – and I fell in love with them. My favorite is the “Magik Potion.” As the name suggests, it's magical, and it's become a favorite companion through my menstrual cycles. So I want to share these wonderful teas with you too!

I prefer the cheerful end, but I’ve also had my fair share of the sad end. It’s the range of my emotions that add up to my experience. I think the only way I can expand my being is by feeling more and by widening my spectrum of emotional experience.

What sort of networks do you have, and what kind of influences affect you? We receive support from a variety of places, but in all likelihood some of it is virtual. I mean virtual as in online, not as in unreal. We meet and share at spaces like Cycle Harmony, being sisters although we might be continents apart.

Serotonin is ‘the happy hormone’ you normally synthesise from the amino acid tryptophan in food via a complex chain of chemical reactions. Serotonin has a role in how you feel in yourself, what you want to eat (and how often), and how much you sleep – all of the things which go awry when you have PMS.
