Toronto’s TEENAGE KICKS have released their latest six song EP ‘Be On My Side’, which finds the group expanding beyond the grungy power-pop of the first release. We like the description of the music which is likened to “the girl you meet in high school that you end up marrying ten years later. Their songs stay with you, and you grow to love more about them as time goes by”.

Shortly before the release of the EP, the band unveiled the Teenage Kicks Singles Club, a service that will deliver two new songs to subscribers every few months. “It’s a way for us to get our music out to our fans without them having to wait however long for our albums to come out,” vocalist Van Helvoort points out. “We’ve got so many songs in the archives, some of which we’ve been playing for years, but they just haven’t shown up on our albums. So instead of letting them fade into obscurity, we wanted to share them all with whoever wants to listen to them, for free.”

On Tuesday 2nd July A Grave With No Name will return with a new album titled Whirlpool on Lefse Records. Recorded over the course of a year at Holy Mountain Studios in London.

Whirlpool completes a narrative trilogy for A Grave With No Name – a trilogy that began in 2009 with the release of Mountain Debris (Lefse/No Pain In Pop), and continued with 2011’s Lower (Boiled Egg).

Four of the six members of today’s featured Detroit based band have fronted other projects, but during the past few years they have united under first-time bandleader, Joe Hertler, to create sublime folk tinged with Motown, funk, and pop. “When we met Joe,” says bassist and producer of Hertler’s first album, Kevin Pritchard, “He was a weird dude with sideburns hiding behind an accordion. Now he’s a confident front man with a flower on his head and a mic in his hand.”

Joe Hertler started as a successful solo artist, and then formed a duo with guitarist Ryan Hoger. That duo expanded when they caught the eye of Pritchard, who asked them to do a special performance in Bigger Brush Media’s Quilted Attic. Soon, drummer and life long friend of Pritchard, Rick Hale, joined the band, bringing his jazz-trained services into the mix. After the release of the first Rainbow Seekers album, On Being, which has sold an impressive 1,400 copies to date with no outside help, the band grew again. Keyboardist Micah Braken and saxophone prodigy Aaron Stinson joined, giving the group a decidedly classic turn.

Live instruments, live musicianship, and live energy became the creed of The Rainbow Seekers and led them to their newest live recordings at The Russell. Today’s track is a single released in June of 2012, following the release of On Being, and preceding the live sessions. We found it on their BandCamp page, loved it, and wanted to share this along with one of the Live Sessions (over at our Live & Acoustic feed).

Yorkshire, UK’s Fossil Collective’s debut album Tell Where I Lie is now available, Let It Go is the single from it.

Fossil Collective, a two-piece from Leeds, consists of multi instrumentalists David Fendick and Jonny Hooker.

The Dead Heads are a band from Sydney formed by brothers Oscar Jeffery, Ali Jeffery and Ferg Davison in mid ’10. They play an upbeat drag you down eclectic rock punk rock feel of music.

They are joined by Joshy Gomaz on drums, Roberto Klaic on guitar, Matte Can Vancouver on percussion, and Jonno on bass.

ATRINA is a indie rock group out of New Haven Connecticut who released their newest album ‘In Planetary Sugar’ in January of this year. Thrush and Thrasher is in the latter half of the record and we really love the meaty guitars laced with dark vocal inflections in the PJ Harvey vein.

Their label Obscure Me Records describes them as “making music that is equal parts minimalist melodicism, counter-punctual cacophony, and decibel-pushing dissonance. Angular, but accessible. Complex, yet catchy. Eclectic, and electrifying. ATRINA makes ears ring, hearts pound, and toes tap.”

Your favourite elctro duo are back in town. Sensual Harassment have released their second e.p. At last.

Sensual Harassment seem to wistfully draw upon popular music of the past as a way forward – whether it be the glossy pastiche of late 70’s disco in the leadoff track Make Me Human Again, the plastic island pleasure of Capri Suntan, or the synth-pop balladry of Rescue Me, which sounds like a forgotten Blondie hit.  Sensual Harassment almost revel in art of blurring the lines of disco, pop and new wave, all while filtering it through their own unique vision, creating something that remains both familiar and new.  

Equipped with a clearer vision, an irresistibly melodic new EP and approving nods from the likes of Pitchfork, Vice, XLR8R, CMJ and Dazed and Confused, Sensual Harassment seem destined to be one of 2013’s brightest new stars – in our solar system and their own.  (press release).
