“Movies In The Park” at Poipu Beach Park will be a buzz as the sun sets on the western horizon.  The Poipu Rotary Club and its many sponsors invite you to their final showing of the summer “Movies In The Park” series..  The featured movie is “The Adventures of Tin Tin” and will be shown at Poipu Beach Park beginning at 7:30pm. Admission is free and is open to the public.

It’s a pretty cool event. A huge inflatable screen is erected in the park. Visitors and locals toting beach towels and blankets will come early to secure their places on the sandy grass lawn.  After the sun sets, the movie will begin and before you know it, you are sitting in the biggest theater in the world.  Every once in a while, you can’t help but cast a glance at the brilliant stars sparkling overhead.  This is a fun event for the whole family.

We encourage you to attend and visit Poipu Beach Park this Friday evening and it is located just about one mile from Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu Beach. Don’t forget to pick up your snacks at the Market Place too before you go – and yes, we do have popcorn. Enjoy.

Here is another fun Poipu event for the month of August.  Every year the National Tropical Botanical Garden creates a magical evening of food, music and natural beauty at its McBryde Garden.  “Moonlight and Music in the Garden” happens on August 25, Saturday from 6:00pm to 10:30pm. Enjoy an evening of dining and dancing under the moonlit Kauai sky at the National Tropical Botanical McBryde Garden, located in Poipu, on your way to the Spouting Horn Lookout and just minutes from Koloa Landing Wyndham Grand.  Seating is limited.

Take a break this week from the “Koloa Plantation Day Festival” and indulge yourself to a tropical outdoor yoga class.  Every Wednesday morning at 7:30 am, join Antonia Joy  on the beautiful grass lawn at the Koloa Landing at Poipu Beach Wyndham Grand Resort.  What an invigorating way to start your Kauai vacation day.  This hour and a half Hatha yoga class is open to all levels and welcomes beginners.

Antonia has an extensive background in yoga which you can read about on her website:  www.kauaioceanfrontyoga.com.     Her warm, energetic personality inspires fun, while encouraging flexibility and balance.   Private classes are also available.  For more information or to sign up for the yoga class,  go to the Koloa Landing Activity desk in the resort’s main lobby.

Here are the correct names of the flowers and some trivia about each of them:

1. Plumeria is  also known as  Frangipani .  Plumeria flowers come in many combination and shades of white, yellow, pink and red colors.   These flowers are commonly used to sew leis.  Although these flowers are found all over Hawaii, they are not indigenous to the Hawaiian islands. Be aware that the milky sap found in the flower is an irritant to your eyes and skin.
2. Pua Kenikeni literally means, ‘ten-cent flower’ because its blooms were once strung and sold as ten-cent leis.  The flowers bloom white, and gradually turn golden orange.  These flowers are also used to sew leis and have a powerfully strong fragrance.  Unfortunately, you can no longer purchase these leis for ten cents. J
3. Tiare  or Tahitian Gardenia is a white flower that is delicate and sweet, just like it’s scent. Tiare  leis are more common in Tahiti than they are in Hawaii. However  Tiare shrubs are commonly found in Hawaii’s landscaping designs, such as  the Koloa Landing Resort grounds.
