Leona says Animals Matter to her in new Charity Film

Top international singer Leona Lewis is backing the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) in a new campaign launched today.

In this exclusive video for the WSPA, filmed at a recent photo shoot at the Sony Music offices in London, Leona gives an insight into her new album, on the X Factor, and what the future holds for her, as well as pledging her support for the charity’s ‘Universal Declaration for Animal Welfare’ campaign. Big names put their families on show to launch campaign for UK family charity

Leading celebrities today launch a campaign asking parents help struggling families across the UK by simply hugging their own children.

Celebrities, including Martine McCutcheon, Hannah Waterman, Lisa Butcher, Amanda Lamb, Nell McAndrew and Sharron Davies, have teamed up with Bold2in1Gel to launch the three-month “Loving Squeeze” campaign for Home-Start, the charity which delivers one-to-one support, friendship and practical help to young families in need of confidence and independence.

To kick the campaign off, all celebs have been photographed giving either their own kids, friends or mothers loving squeezes by leading snapper, Amelia Troubridge.

British kids are going to school on a junk food breakfast of sweets, snacks and fizzy drinks and parents admit they can’t do anything about it.

According to new research £646 million is being spent each year by sweet-toothed kids buying biscuits, cake and meat snacks on the way to school with around one quarter of 7-14 year olds admitting to regular early morning junk food binges.

While a staggering one in every class of 14 year olds say they go to school on a cigarette, according to the landmark report published by Kellogg’s to coincide with National Breakfast Week.

Other findings include: half a million kids eat biscuits for their morning meal, 160,000 have a bag of crisps and more than 100,000 just have a fizzy drink.

Nutritionists warn this is storing up trouble for the class room, leading to loss of concentration and poor discipline. Public health nutritionist, Kathy Cowbrough, who was involved with the government’s Sure Start Centres, said:

“How often have we all seen young children not wanting to cooperate with harassed parents, or school children unable to stay alert for valuable lessons at school?

“This is because missing a decent breakfast means we can be saying goodbye to up to a quarter of the nutrients and energy we need for the day, making us more tired, irritable and less able to concentrate in the morning.”

Fuelling the bad food binge, 16pc of kids say their parents hand over on average £2.22 each day so they can buy food on the way to school, a figure which jumps to one in four 13-14 year olds.

The study of UK families revealed the extent to which parents know what kids are doing but do nothing about it. A third of children say their parents are aware of what they spend their dosh on and are fine with it.

Of the parents who dole out the breakfast money, a massive two-thirds say it’s inevitable that it will be spent on junk food.

Yet six in ten parents also admit they have serious concerns about their child’s diet, and a third are worried about their son or daughter’s health. The solution is obvious to both kids and parents, with nearly half of children who say that expenditure on ‘bad breakfast foods’ would cease if parents stopped giving them cash (43%) or gave them breakfast at home before leaving for school (42%).

Rachel Fellows from Kellogg’s said,

“Ask any parent and I think they’d agree, a biscuit or packet of crisps are okay snacks when part of a balanced diet but they’re not breakfast.

“This report shows parents are having a tough time but we know parents want to do the right thing but something’s stopping that happening. We all need to help parents find solutions – like open more breakfast clubs in schools – so each child can start the day with a decent meal in them.”

Whether you’re twenty or fifty the hour glass figure remains the body shape the majority of us aspire to. With over two thirds of the nation wishing they had the classic Marilyn curves, it would seem that the boyish body personified by Twiggy in the sixties and Kate Moss in the nineties and noughties is somewhat outdated.

In a landmark study, commissioned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Kellogg’s Special K, over 2,000 women across the UK were surveyed to examine the key influences that have impacted on the female body ideal and the things that have boosted and bruised our confidence over the last five decades. The results showed that real women are resolutely rejecting perfection and demanding more honesty to inspire better ‘shape’ confidence. Key body shape boosters include seeing shapely women on TV rather than size zero models, curvy celebrities with hunky boyfriends (such as Charlotte Church and Gavin Henson), and older actresses such as Helen Mirren ‘baring all’ for nude scenes.

As well as applauding women in the public eye who are honest about their bodies, British women believe influencers like the media could and should do more to inspire real women. Well someone who knows a thing or two about the pressures of staying in shape is TV presenter and mum Kirsty Gallacher. Sala said her children would like to know the truth about who their father is and she is launching the suit to seek “closure.”

In addition to the DNA test, Sala is seeking child support of $150,000 per month, retroactive to June 1988, as well as $3 million per month in spousal support retroactive to November 2006. She also acknowledged she is not sure which, if any, of her children he has sired.
But Sala insisted that Reeves was aware that he might be the father of some or all of her children, noting that at least one of them bears a resemblance to him.

From the creator of “Arrested Development” and the producers of “Two and a Half Men,” comes the new Sony Pictures Television half-hour animated comedy series, “Sit Down, Shut Up” for FOX. The series premieres Sunday, April 19 at 8:30 PM (ET/PT) as part of FOX’s Animation Domination Sunday night lineup.

Based on the hit live-action Australian series, “Sit Down, Shut Up” revolves around the lives of high school faculty members in a small Florida fishing town who are so preoccupied with their own personal needs and agendas that the students ALWAYS come second. At Knob Haven High the teachers are essentially the students and their insecurities, prejudices, power struggles, unrequited loves and petty squabbles take center stage, leaving the students hungry for learning and any kind of attention or leadership.

There’s one educator who can actually teach and feels the focus should be on academics, yet despite his efforts and being the only teacher who truly gives a damn, has been relegated to gym. LARRY LITTLEJUNK (voiced by Jason Bateman) can be found jogging, eating sensibly or attempting to be the voice of reason when he’s not teaching P.E. or trying to impress science teacher, MIRACLE GROHE (voiced by Kristin Chenoweth). MIRACLE, whose career as a science teacher has had some help due to her good looks and flirtatious nature, can pretty much be found at all times with her concerned baby, MERCH, and promoting the spiritual life that rules her universe.

SUE SEZNO (voiced by Kenan Thompson), who has taken over as acting principal of Knob Haven due to a mysterious accident involving the last principal (can you say escape attempts?) can be found giving lots of “no’s” for answers in her stern, firm and no nonsense manner. Then there’s Vice Principal STUART PROSZACKIAN (voiced by Will Forte) whose terrifically upbeat and positive attitude explain why his prior job was a Prison Clown for Florida’s Department of Corrections.

Every educational institution must have a jock (or someone who thinks that he is one) and that’s English teacher ENNIS HOFFTARD (voiced by Will Arnett) whose love of the ladies is eclipsed only by his love of himself. ENNIS can often be found badgering the aging German teacher WILLARD DEUTSCHEBOG (voiced by Henry Winkler), a deeply defeated and poor man who loves to spend time shopping at the local 49-cent store and eating anything involving bologna.

Rounding out the staff is HELEN KLENCH (voiced by Cheri Oteri), the feisty and frustrated librarian who believes that the library is the core of the school and loves to tell people to “Quiet Down!” She is single, desperate and not picky, and can be found spending a lot of time gossiping with the bisexual drama teacher, ANDREW LEGUSTAMBOS (voiced by Nick Kroll). Finally there’s HAPPY- real name Muhannad Sabeeh Fa-ach Nuabar – (voiced by Tom Kenny), the plotting secretive custodian who many don’t know too much about.

It stopped raining long enough for the premiere of Michael Caine’s new movie ‘Is Anybody There’ in New York, Monday night. Caine, casually dressed in a blue jacket and silver rimmed, Bono style glasses, signed autographs before entering Cinema 2 on Third Avenue opposite Bloomingdales. His young co-star Bill Milner and family joined Sir Michael. Other celebs who attended the premiere included the diminutive Bob Balaban, Dick Cavett and gadfly, John Stossel from 20/20.

The claws are out, and the catty comments and tearful hissy fits are back as Animal Planet kicks off the second season of its hot reality, competition series Groomer Has It, hosted by Emmy award-winner, Jai Rodriguez (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy).

Sierra Leone and its West African neighbour Liberia are beautiful countries with rich cultural and academic traditions. But as they strive to emerge from the effects of civil war, their inhabitants are struggling against official corruption, poverty and disease. Public sanitation is a nightmare. Hospitals are ramshackle and woefully under equipped. Malaria claims lives at an obscene rate; Sierra Leone has the highest child mortality rate in the world, with one in every four children dying before they reach the age of 5.

Over the course of the last year, the price of staple foods has doubled in Sierra Leone. Parents are desperately worried that they will not be able to feed their offspring. To us, 14p is a pittance. To a desperately poor family in Sierra Leone it is anything but. Parents struggle to raise even that sum, which is just enough to buy a cup of rice.

In Kroo Bay, a poverty stricken suburb of Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown, hospitals are struggling to cope. Faulty electrical systems, leaks, general disrepair and a chronic lack of facilities mean that adequate treatment cannot be given to children suffering from widespread, easily preventable diseases. The children are also forced to live and wash in pestilent water that is strewn with garbage. Disease is rife, but because of extreme poverty people don’t have the money to afford the simple safeguards and treatments required to prevent it.

These children need our help. Since civil war ended in Sierra Leone in 2002, and in Liberia the following year, outside aid has made a real difference. But more is required if an end is finally to be put to the inhuman standard of living that so many of their inhabitants are forced to endure. Even a small donation can make a huge difference – and could even save a child’s life.
