It’s no mystery that Latino television channels are notorious for flashing eye candy on many of their shows. I like watching English-language network news like CNBC when I’m eating breakfast, but, when it comes to forecasting weather, I have to say the Spanish-Language networks beat the rest in terms of visual appeal; and the content is also good enough to tell you whether you should wear a coat or hit the city in speedos. But let my words shut up, and how about we let you judge yourself with the following images:

“El Valien-T,” is a rapper of Colombian descent who was born in Miami, Florida. His parents were born in Barranquilla, Colombia. Bryant Scott Amastha, El Valien-T’s government name, was born with a congenital condition called Arthrogryposis that shortens his muscles and, hence, severely limits his joint movement, but not his spirit. The condition physically confines El Valien-T, which means the brave one in Spanish, to a wheelchair. He has also undergone more than 75 surgeries and will have to summit himself to more in the future.

One out every three-thousand people suffers from Arthrogryposis, according to the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health.

El Valien-T is from the Kendall, where I partially grew up, and attended a neighboring school called Sunset Senior High where he never let his disability stop him from becoming an honor student. He was the first disabled person in Florida to become president of the Academy of Finance, which has existed for 69 years. He studied journalism and television programming in a magnet program, and graduated with honors having maintained a GPA of 3.29 out of 4.0.

He then attended Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida and was awarded a bachelor’s degree in Sound Engineering and Music Production in 2012. He graduated with a 3.39 GPA and was named the Best Producer and Arranger of his class. Shortly thereafter, he was awarded a Masters Degree in Entertainment Business and Sports Management with a 3.42 GPA in 2013.

He released his debut album titled, “El Valentoso,” in 2013 on Univision’s morning program Despierta America. El Valien-T finished the album while he was completing his Masters Degree.

An accomplished technologist, El Valien-T is a certified trainer of music engineering software, Pro Tools 10 & 11, he’s the State of Florida’s youngest notary public at the age of 23, and he just got his real-estate license. In short, my man is a hustla!

He is promoting his music touring Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Central and South America and the United States, where he has performed at the Colombian Independence Day Festival, before more than 50,000 people in attendance) and the Calle Ocho parade, both held in Miami, Florida.

And without question, El Valien-T is utterly worthy of every accolade his hard work has produced. Still need proof? Let Ojala touch your heart as it did mine.

During the following episode of Caso Cerrado, El Valien-T’s mother narrates more parts about his story, including when he met and was mentored by Colombian recording artists Carlos Vives and Shakira. His mother, who has been very supportive of El Valien-T’s career, filed a lawsuit against a man who charged her $4,500 to promote an appearance and radio airtime in Barranquilla, Colombia during the city’s four-day carnival.

Last year, Maria Niño, a woman from Salamina, Magdalena, a village off the Atlantic coast, slept with another woman’s husband over 5 years ago, according to Mrs. Niño. Mrs. Niño says she ran into a lady, who is romantically involved with the man with whom Mrs. Niño slept with five years ago, on a boat ride back to her village. The lady stepped on Mrs. Niño’s foot with her heel. Mrs. Niño said she pushed the lady. The lady tried to hit Mrs. Niño on the face, and Mrs. Niño yanked her hair. The lady’s son punched Mrs. Niño on her face. After the fight is what you see on the video that has made Maria Niño an internet sensation in Colombia.

Here’s a couple of music videos that were filmed with Maria Niño based on the incident; it’s a melodic play on the phrase “El Tormento Tuyo Soy Yo,” that the video turned into a trend. The videos were released prior to the Carnaval from Barranquilla, so people could party to it during the four-day citywide rumba:

Here’s a video where she explains what happened and discusses a few more details about how she makes money selling products in her village that she buys from Barranquilla, Colombia. Notice how she throws in some hints that she’s famous and doesn’t have money, and she could use a new motorcycle.

As all Latinos know, we don’t all speak the same type of Spanish. As Hispanics we constitute a broad variety of nationalities. Just like there are blacks, whites, indians, orientals, and others (if there are any), we also have people of all races. That said, even people from the same country that come from the different regions speak differently. Just like some one from New York City speaks differently than a person from Houston, Texas.

In Colombia, for instance, the people from the coast speak differently than the people to whom you’re accustomed to hearing from Colombia: Bogota. The Embassy is in Bogota, so it makes it easier for people from there to immigrate to the United States. So if you were to hear some one from Barranquilla speak, which is on the Atlantic Coast of Colombia, you would think you were hearing somebody from another country.

In this video, a random man from the coast of Colombia (probably Barranquilla) teaches an Argentinian reporter on how to address Colombian Soccer player James Rodriguez. The reaction’s hilarious.

Pretty soon you can. Check out one driving itself to CES 2015 in Las Vegas:

Oh, and for mi gente that haven’t been on this planeta as long as me, here’s a video of Knight Rider. It was a TV show back in the 80’s that featured the first autonomous car, I knew about, called Kitt. In this scene, Kitt is pitted against Karr, a fictitiously more advanced but evil autonomous car of el siglo veinte; ahh: the voice of Karr was played by Peter Cullen, who also played the voice of Optimus Prime. That’s your self-driven Picapiedra right there! Yabba dabba dooooo!

Verdaderamente, no hay nada nuevo debajo del sol!

I’m not the most informed soccer fan (although I have family members who have played professionally and live for it); but every time I watch another World Cup, I get more enthralled with the game. Don’t tell me uncle this, but I have to admit that it is the biggest sport on the planet. Practically every country but the United States follows it religiously. And after watching this video, you really learn what being a real star and, most importantly, a human being is all about.

My eyes watered and I got goose bumps aggregating these vids. Without a doubt one of the greatest if not the greatest singer… period… is El Cantante de Los Cantantes (the singer of all singers), Hector Lavoe! Let me give you a little tip to listening to Hector: He will at times start songs off slow blowing lower and deeper notes just to warm you up. Then he kills you hitting higher notes while harmonizing to more instruments that appear to be played faster. Listen to the master put in work.

“Aguanile”

If you want to know who Marc Anthony was trying to be like when he sang Aguanile for the movie, “El Cantante,” hit play to hear the original.
