Well, if you are interested, we make it easy for you to find out what job openings are available. Simply visit our website at www.lifetime.com. If you hover over the "company" link in the top navigation bar, a drop down menu will appear with all sorts of options, including "Join Our Team."

Yes, at Lifetime we are a team and we are always in search of motivated, hardworking individuals to join our fast-paced environment. On the "Join Our Team" page, you can browse current job openings. For instance, right now we are hiring for a SQL Database Administrator. Sounds like a fancy complicated title to me, but if you are a computer person, you'll know exactly what that means! Details about this position and how to apply can be found right on our website.

In addition to the current professional and management job openings that are always updated and listed on the “Join Our Team” page, we are always accepting applications for our manufacturing positions and keep them on file for consideration when a position becomes available. Simply download the application and submit it to our Human Resources department.

Lifetime offers competitive salaries and wages and lots of great benefits including: medical benefits and life insurance (first of the month following 90 days for full-time positions), PTO (paid vacation and sick leave), product discounts, and a profit sharing program which gives each employee a percent of the company's annual profit. And, you'll be working for one of the largest employers in northern Utah and the world's largest manufacturer of residential basketball hoops, folding tables, and folding chairs. Pretty cool!

So, if you find yourself looking for a job or know someone who is, be sure to keep checking the Lifetime website to see if there is a job posting for you!

Here in Utah, it has felt like Spring all winter long. We have had a very mild winter. I fear, however, there is more snow to come which means the tulips and daffodils are in for a rude awaking.

It’s a good time to start building up your compost reserves to feed those plants that will feed you this summer. Lifetime is still very much in the composter business and we have had tremendous success with our composters. I feel we have helped to make another step in "greening up" our planet with the vast amounts of Lifetime composters that are composting away in yards all over the world.

I'm excited to share with you that because of the success of our composters, we have developed a new version based on feedback from our customers! As you may know, a key element to getting good compost is time. To get good compost, there comes a point when you need to stop adding raw materials to the mix and allow for it to “cook” for a while. Adding raw compost continuously prolongs the time until your compost is complete.

Customers told us that they didn’t know what to do with their raw compost while the batch in the composter was cooking. Problem solved! With the new Lifetime Dual Compost Tumbler, we provide two fifty gallon tumblers on the same frame. This way, once one tumbler is full and ready to start cooking, there is another tumbler ready to take in the raw compost. Both tumblers rotate on the same frame so you can turn them easily. We have also included an indicator so that you can visually see which tumbler is cooking and should be left alone.

Similar to Lifetime's single barrel composters, the Lifetime Dual Compost Tumbler also features an internal aerated bar in each barrel which mixes the compost and allows air to flow through the composter to help quicken the batching process time. To also speed up composting time, the Lifetime Dual Compost Tumbler is constructed of black, double-wall high-density polyethylene (HDPE) panels specifically designed to absorb and retain heat.

If you want to learn more about our new dual composter, watch our quick video below. Or, if you are interested in purchasing the Lifetime Dual Compost Tumbler, you can find it on shelves now in Costco Wholesale Clubs nationwide for only $140.

We hope you enjoy this new product, and you find composting useful and productive. We would love to hear your success stories this Spring. Send us your stories and pictures of the great produce your compost is helping to grow or share them on our Facebook page.

On Monday, Lifetime was featured in a Made in Utah segment on Studio 5, KSL's local lifestyle show. The hour-long show featured a pre-recorded segment (starring yours truly) that was filmed in the Lifetime Store, as well as three live segments with host Darin Adams in our factory.

Studio 5 is doing a week-long series to show products and companies that are made in Utah. We were honored they decided to start with Lifetime! Filming the pre-taped piece was SO much fun. Studio 5 Producer, Stephanie, was a blast and great to work with. She was very creative and full of energy. Who knew sipping lemonade on a Lifetime Glider Bench would be so fun?

For the live segments, the KSL camera lady, Jen, showed up about 10:00am to get things set up, find a broadcast signal since it was live television (which has got to be such a nerve-racking job), and finalize details. Stephanie and Darin arrived at about 10:40am, asked a few questions about the company and products, and did a quick run through of each segment... then the count down was on for the live show at 11:00!

Darin did a fabulous job at showing off Lifetime and our products. He started by showing some of the actual products we make, then he headed to our folding chair assembly plant to watch the chairs being assembled. We decided to have the host Darin talk with Adam and Najah (our LEAN production trainers) since they both started in production and know a lot about our production process. They both did a fantastic job on their TV debut!

For his final live segment, the host had a folding table assembly race with some of our workers. This is where we were quickly reminded that part of live TV is learning to roll with the punches. During the table race, Darin almost got hit with the moving parts on the rack because he stepped through the rack and didn’t step up far enough. Yikes! (Watch closely, you can see it on camera in the final clip below.) Luckily, he didn't get hurt!

We've read some wonderful comments from viewers who were thrilled to learn that Lifetime was located in Utah and to get a live look at how our products are actually made. I could tell you more, but it's really much for exciting if you watch the actual clips from the show. There are three separate clips, so be sure to watch them all. Feel free to leave a comment below and let us know what your favorite part is, we'd love to hear. Enjoy the show!

He was a very frugal man and told me to make sure it would "last me though college". That was probably a bit naive, but neither of us knew any better. Today I have a "computer" with a much faster processor, more RAM, more storage space, and a significantly faster Internet connection -- it fits in my pocket and I call it a "smartphone".

It really is amazing, the technology that we take for granted. Here at Lifetime Products, we've always used technology to solve problems -- not just because it's "cool" -- though a lot of it is really, really cool! Such is the case with smartphones and tablets!

If you have an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, or Windows Phone 7 we have an app for you! Our apps put our information about all our products literally at your fingertips. Since the beginning, our iOS app has let you carry that information with you without requiring an Internet connection. That can come in handy if your tablet only has WiFi in it and you're away from a hotspot, or when you're inside one of those big box stores and your 3G/4G signal can't get through all the concrete and metal around you. Of course, when you are connected, we take the opportunity to update our product catalog so you'll always have the latest information right where you need it.

Our Windows Phone 7 app, however, had to be connected to the 'net to get product details. It was a technological limitation at the time. Now, with Windows Phone 7.5, that limitation has been lifted and we've been updating our app to take advantage of the new off-line capabilities!

If you have a Windows Phone you can grab the new version from the Windows Marketplace.

What about the web you ask? The Lifetime Store online (www.buylifetime.com) is now mobile-friendly!
So, this month, one lucky winner will win a Lifetime 7'x7' Storage Shed! We figured it's the perfect time to give away a shed since some of you probably made a resolution to get more organized this year, others are still trying to figure out where to store all their holiday decorations, and a few more of you might be starting your spring cleaning already.

This 7'x7' shed retails for $929 in the Lifetime Store online and is one of our newer and most popular sizes. (Whoa! Can you say HUGE product giveaway?) In addition to its convenient size, one of the reasons it's so popular is because we've loaded it with lots of fantastic features. Take a quick look at this video to see what makes this shed unique.

Kind of makes you want it even more after watching that, huh? Well, you can't win if you don't enter. So, read the directions below and get busy. Good luck!

How to enter:

Portable basketball systems are convenient. You can purchase a Lifetime Basketball System and be playing basketball the same day. However, when you assemble a portable basketball system, it is important to always follow the manufacturer's instructions very carefully. And, that means right down to the final instruction about filling your portable base. I have seen lots of systems with weights, bags of cement, or bricks on top of the base to hold it down - like in these pictures. This is a big "no-no" and very dangerous. We rigorously test our basketball systems and write our specific instructions for a reason. Most websites will state that portable systems aren’t very heavy, and they usually aren’t. But not filling the base up properly can cause your system to tip over and get damaged, and possibly cause severe injuries.

Our instructions (which are all available on our website if you lost yours) indicate that there are two ways that you can fill a base - with water or sand. (Be sure to read your specific model instructions to learn how much to use of either option.) Obviously, water is significantly easier and cheaper than filling it with sand, but this is not my professional recommendation. Remember water can freeze, and if you live in a cold region the water may possibly crack your base. (Although, Lifetime bases are made out of high-density polyethylene plastic that is flexible enough to expand with the water when it freezes.) Another concern I have with water is if your base gets a small leak, the water could leak out unnoticed and the unit could fall over possibly breaking your system, or worse, causing injury.

Therefore, I recommend (and we recommend in our instructions) to use sand. Sand is denser and heavier, and filling the base with sand creates a much more stable pole and backboard. Some of you may be concerned that using sand makes the system extremely heavy to move. You are right, it does. Your child certainly will not be able to move this system and it will be difficult even for a strong adult. But, you will be surprised to learn that the majority of people I speak with who have a portable system really don’t move it that often. So, it is worth the extra stability and safety precautions to fill with sand.

So, if you fill the base, what happens if you are moving and want to take your hoop with you or you simply want to sell it? I'll be honest, emptying a base is very difficult. It can be done but I would say once you fill the base with sand, don’t plan on emptying it unless you absolutely have to. Even when filling the base with water, it is very hard to get all the water out of the base.

Another important thing to keep in mind as a basketball hoop owner is to make sure you have your system on a level and safe surface. While it is tempting to place a basketball system on the sidewalk or end of your driveway to make the street your "court", this is very unsafe for both players and drivers.

Finally, since it is winter right now, whether you are a new or existing basketball system owner, check out these helpful winter basketball hoop maintenance tips to help keep your system like new in our previous Basketball FAQs During Winter Months blog post.

Yes, it requires us giving up a couple hours on our Saturday, but it's worth it! First of all, it's always great to see about 1,000 of our employees gathered together at one time. But, more importantly, it's also when we get to hear how Lifetime as a company fared during the previous year and we get to hear where we are headed for the new year. And, the owner is gracious enough to share a portion of the company's profits and gives all employees a bonus check at this meeting for helping in the company's success - just one of our many fantastic employee benefits at Lifetime Products!

We started this year's meeting by recapping some of the past year's highlights. As part of the recap, Lifetime President Richard Hendrickson showed a clip of Utah Governor Herbert's recent State of the State address where he mentioned Lifetime as an example of a "thriving business" in Utah. We are so proud and honored to be mentioned in his speech. If you haven't seen the address, you can watch it here, or you can read the speech by clicking here. (Listen for Lifetime to be mentioned at about 8:55.)

After recapping some 2011 sales and production accomplishments, as well as internal LEAN manufacturing achievements, it was time to get a sneak peak at what's in store for 2012 at Lifetime. This is always one of the most fun parts of the meeting. Let me just tell you, it's definitely going to be another exciting year! Here are just a few of the things we learned that we'll be telling you about in more detail in future blog posts:

Over 30 new products will hit store shelves this year - watch for new kayak models, composters, and folding tables to name just a few

New Lifetime Plastics Facility to open this Spring

New medical clinic for Lifetime employees to open this Spring

New Lifetime corporate tagline and corporate video unveiled

Thank you to all of you, our customers, for believing in Lifetime and our products. Without you, Lifetime couldn't be here today - 26 years and counting! I look forward to keeping you updated on our 2012 accomplishments throughout the year!
