Today I have some brand-spanking new fiction for your thirsty ears. I’m presenting – for the first time – ‘Ribbon Dancer,’ the sequel to my Metamor City fan fiction project ‘Rebirth.’

The story picks up about 2 years after ‘Rebirth.’ Carl is adjusting to his life as a theriomorph, has a ‘night job’ with more of his kind, and life is doing fairly well for him. However, one small event sends him down a rabbit hole that will test him sorely…and maybe give him something he’s been wanting for a long time.

Now that ‘Outcast’ is done for now and ‘A New Beginning’ is being worked on, I wanted to take a bit of a break away from Dalan’s world and dive into the mystical, magical world of Chris Lester’s Metamor City.

This story, ‘Rebirth,’ was originally read by Chris on his podcast, but like ‘Outcast’ I’ve gone over it again, tightened up a few points, and I think it’s a better version of what it once was.

The end is in sight, folks. Just one more chapter after this and the re-mastered version of ‘Outcast’ will be fully posted both here and on The Kick in the Cast site. For today, I have chapter 26 for you ready to go.

It’s been a long road to get here, and while I am looking ahead to new challenges and stories, this one will be going back into the lab before I’m ready to submit it for publishing. If you’ve followed along this far, you know that the audio quality has been all over the place as I’m trying to find the ‘sweet spot’ for the kind of sound I want. I think I’ve finally found it, and now will be re-recording ‘Outcast’ using this single setup to provide a consistent quality audio recording.

And on top of that, I’ll be pushing forward with the next book in the series, ‘A New Beginning,’ so yeah, I’m gonna be a busy boy for the next little while.

In this chapter, Dalan awakens after a painful night in his new home: his former Clan’s dwelling for exiles. As he gets used to his new surroundings and situation, the young tiger learns that someone is in fact watching out for him: an organization that offers some small help to those newly exiled.

He makes plans to travel to a place where exiles are known to dwell, though to get there he will have to run a veritable gauntlet through an industrial wasteland, where who knows what is waiting for him.

Go through the Rondoki Clan…no matter the cost.

His internal conflict doesn’t escape Te’Ki’s eye, who finally takes matters into her own hands to set her beloved tiger back on the right path…and begin a path of her own.

His thoughts are interrupted though as he comes to the aid of someone from his past…and comes far too close to being discovered.

An incident during his duties at the docks drives him closer to one of those decisions.

However, when he returns home and begins his investigation, the truth that’s revealed proves to be a bit more than even he can deal with…

Tomas and Dalan finally meet, and the white tiger begins hinting that his friend should start investigating the nature of his exile.

After, he is confronted by his Grandfather, who imparts a harsh life lesson on the young tiger, one that he’ll have to resolve on his own someday.

He dares to hurt the one Dalan loves.

What follows…is a nightmare…

While they’re out, Dalan encounters both an echo of his past, and a dark harbinger of one possible future…

Once there, Dalan finally realizes his true place in this game the Clans are playing: the same place in which all the exiles are. Despair creeps in as he’s now apparently lost everything, from his hopes of returning to the Clans to his growing love for Te’Ki.

But redemption may be just a sunrise away…

After Won leaves, Dalan and Te’Ki bed down for the night, but not before Dalan comes to a realization about the sleeping cougar in his arms…

Later, he returns home and after an exchange with his house guest, he storms out once more. It seems that no matter where he goes or what he does, everything and everyone around him seems determined to tear him down and force him to accept his fate.

Frustrated, he chooses to continue with the directions laid out by his new teacher, Khrasa, and he works to secure himself a job and through that, the means to become self-sufficient. He also meets with his new master, and his journey toward mastery of a forbidden art begins.

Expecting to return to an empty dwelling, Dalan is surprised to see that his house guest hasn’t left yet, and it appears he won’t be alone for some time.

But before he can, there are a few things he needs to do first…

However, a fatal encounter reminds Dalan very quickly that as comfortable as one can be, exiles are still hated and also hunted.

He takes stock of his situation and, after tending to himself, soon discovers that someone – or several someones – is watching out for him and gives him a starting direction on this new path of his life.

However, this path leads to more than just a place to start…

It isn’t until he finally sets foot on Clan soil once more that the reason for the Acolyte’s presence is revealed, much to Dalan’s horror.

During one session, the young tiger discovers a terrifying side-effect of Dr. Sheck’s treatment option, and finds his predicament even more frustrating. That is, until a whisper in the dark gently prods him in the right direction.

Now awake, Dalan begins the slow, painful road to recovery.

We are introduced to Dalan Kalamar, eldest son of his father, and second in line for the title of Clan Elder.

On this night, the majority of Dalan’s Clan is bearing witness to his father participating in the Kumal, a martial arts tournament held every year in the Clan lands. However, his mother, pregnant with her 6th child, is currently at the hospital.
