My Baby Lost Her First Tooth

This can’t be happening? Really, at age 5, Miss Teagan is losing her baby teeth. Heck, my 7 year old hasn’t even lost his first tooth, but my daughter has? Just makes me sad…

I wanted to photograph this important milestone, but instead Teagan decided to play with the jasmine and be silly. I can’t blame her, the smell of this stuff is intoxicating.

Baby Blue & 7 Days New

Seems like there have been a ton of baby boys born lately, and I am really enjoying it! Blue is one of my favorite colors. This sweet baby boy gave us a run for our money though. He was wide awake when I first got to session. Momma had fed him, rocked him, even Daddy had a go of it and he still wasn’t ready to sleep. At one point, I think he was giving me the “stink eye.” I think he was telling me to back off, he wasn’t ready for pictures yet. LOL! No worries though, a few cuddles and kisses later from Momma & Daddy, and he was out like a light!

Oh sweet baby Jack! I had been waiting a long time to meet this lil’ fella! It was a perfect springtime morning the day of his session, the clouds overcast in the sky, it was still pretty nice temperature wise – perfect. We decided to start Jack’s session outside in the daffodil garden. Something about the bright yellow blooms just screams Spring.

Jack’s sister wanted to get in on the action too, so we headed inside for some sisterly snuggles. She did so good – holding his head steady and secure. As soon as we got them on the couch together she knew exactly what to do. Without hardly any guidance, she immediately started hugging and kissing him, it was a really sweet moment.

I instantly feel in love with Jack’s nursery. Momma did good! Something about the orange and aqua colors were so appealing to me….. *ahem* *cough* ….. oh yea, no wonder I like it, they the same colors that I use for Rae of Light Photography. LOL! It was such a cute set up with lots of rustic features. There was one special thing that Mom really wanted to be photographed and that was the brown teddy bear. Mom & Aunt warned me that it was a little creepy looking but it has a very special meaning. It was Jack’s Grandfathers teddy bear as a child so it is really old & a little worn around the edges, but it was important to include it in the photos.

After our session was done, Jack’s Aunt had to head back home. She has been there helping out for the last 2 weeks and it was time for her to leave. I started to put my camera equipment up, but couldn’t resist capturing this special moment. Parting is such sweet sorrow…

Sweetest Lil’ Butterfly

When Mom arrived for our session and pulled out this adorable butterfly outfit, I knew this was going to be fun. Lil’ Miss B was just as cute as could be, matching from head to toe, even down to her hair accessories, which I believe Mom made herself. This was my last Charity Model Search session for 2012, and I couldn’t have asked for a better time. Looking forward to seeing you again next year Miss B, which I am sure by that time, you’ll have me running after you.

Bedrest Momma

I can tell you that the thought of having unlimited sleep and being able to lay in bed all day reading books and watching TV, initially sounds great. But I’m sure, as many mommies that have had to endure being on bed-rest would tell you, it gets old real fast and soon is one huge drag. This Momma-to-be has dealt with this first hand for many weeks now. We didn’t want to travel too far, so we decided to just shoot her session at her home. I got a sense from her, as we started her photo shoot, that she found it nice to get outside and get some fresh air. Weeks and weeks being at home, I imagine, can cause a bad case of cabin fever. On a positive note, I am very happy to announce that her bed-rest ordeal is now over! No more bed-rest for this lovely lady; she had her sweet baby boy yesterday! Congratulations! We are looking forward to meeting your new bundle of joy!

Sweet Hugs & Piggie Toes

Sweet baby Shane is such a little love bug! I guess I can’t really call him “baby” anymore since he is now a proud big brother to his sister Shaylee. He gave Mr. Bear & Bunny the biggest hugs during our session. After a few quick smiles, it was time to explore. I got my footwork in with this kid. There was just too much to see and do and drive.

His sweet 3 month old baby sister Shaylee is a doll! Seriously precious with just a hint of a smile for me. Her mommy was very excited about our session together that she very meticulously painted Miss Shaylee’s piggie toes. Yep, one tiny drop of polish on each baby toe, but it was done – and it was so super cute! After she was done, a quick snuggle with Momma was all she needed to take a nap. She is one happy baby; even smiling as she slept. Psst…. she smiled a tiny smile during her newborn session too.

What Size Canvas do I Buy?

When I first started buying canvases for myself, I hate to admit it, but I bought an 11×14 canvas thinking it was “big.” Now granted there is nothing wrong with ordering an 11×14 canvas; however, what I do suggest to my clients is that they consider buying an 11×14 canvas grouping. By grouping several 11×14 canvases on one wall, it makes for a better display. About a week after I had my lonely canvas on the wall by itself, I went back and ordered several more to go with it. I will on the other side of things admit that I have never bought a 30×40 canvas either. I have a few photos in mind that I want to get printed in this size just haven’t jumped on it and done it. Hopefully the photo below will help you visualize what each canvas size looks like.

Rainy Day Games

Each month that the Self Portrait x12 project comes around, I tell myself that I am going to get it done early…. and yet again, I waited till the last minute! LOL! And by waiting till the last minute, I also encountered a down pour of rain outside which pretty much vetoed what I had planned on doing for this month’s project. So on to Plan B, something indoor. With our family, we are big into playing games. Granted, my oldest son is more into the video games thing, however I’m more of an old school gamer. I love to play cards, dominoes, scrabble, heck any board game for that matter! So with the on slot of wetness outside, I wanted to highlight our love of games this month. What better way to pass the day than with a good game of Old Maid!

Mommy & Me Sessions

Just in time for Mother’s Day! I can honestly tell you that I wish I was doing these sessions. I wish I had more photos with me and my kids in them together. I am always behind the camera…. however, I am making an effort to change this with the Self Portrait x12 project that I am participating in this year. There were years, <—- that’s plural folks, where you couldn’t get me in front of the camera because I hated the way I looked and I was embarrassed at how much weight I had put on over the years. Fortunately, kids don’t see that. Heck, I DON’T see it either when I see the very few photos I have of my mother, who thought herself to be overweight too back in the day. I adored my Momma, and I am sad when I realize that the handful of photos that I do have of her are all I have. I WANT more photos! Although this one photo below is just a snapshot from the 1970′s, it is one of my favorites because the look on my Mom’s face is priceless. She didn’t even care about smiling for the camera or bother looking in the direction of the camera, she instead is adoringly looking at my brother and me. AND THAT’S EXACTLY what I remember most – her love for us, not the fact that she felt overweight.

I love those photos of my Mom, and I know that my kids will feel the same when they look at the photos with me in them years from now. So, whatcha waiting for? Let’s celebrate motherhood! Come spend some time with me on April 21st or April 28th and have a “playdate” with your children. Not only will you have fun, laugh, play and build memories with your children, but I will be there to capture those memories in a photograph for you to cherish many years afterwards!
