Because as we’ve said elsewhere, it’s just been one of those years. That’s why this Sound Board special we recorded back in April is just being released now. So if we sound like younger, more optimistic versions of ourselves, you’ll understand why.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode is piloted by Dr. Rob Levy with Prof Tuffley as nose gunner and Widgett Walls strapped to the tail to distract the fighters.

This episode’s central topic is music during the pandemic. We had no idea when we were recording this that we’d still be dealing with it at about the same level of competency in December that we were in April.
This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode is helmed by Dr. Rob Levy with Prof Tuffley riding shotgun and Widgett Walls in the glovebox.

This episode’s central topic is getting back to whatever the hell we were doing before the hiatus happened, plus the usual bitching and such about the Grammy and the Rock and Roll Hall Fame, as well as a look back at 2014 and a look forward into whatever this year we’re in is called. Also, the Beck/Kanye debacle as well as the Sam Smith/Tom Petty debacle. And more.

The BBC Radio 6 shows we discuss are: Gilles Peterson, DJ Edu, Craig Charles, 6 Music Recommends, Iggy Pop and Don Letts.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode is attended by Prof. Tuffley and Dr. Rob Levy with Widgett Walls in the chair, running the entire thing aground.

This episode’s central topic is catchup mode on 2014 thus far, since we’ve been on unplanned hiatus for a bit. Our favorites thus far this year, along with surprises and disappointments. Also discussed: Weird Al‘s recent triumph, Panic at the Disco vs. nutcases, Tupac vs. Broadway, the Mystery of Casey Kasem, Duran Duran vs. their own fan club (only sorta), MTV and Spotify in bed together, the advent of Amazon Prime and more.

Also, this is very late going up and you can blame Widge. [Editor’s note: Widge did actually type that bit. Like last time.]

This episode’s central topic is: mix tapes and curating music. Is it a lost art? Is it the same thing now to create a Spotify playlist? And what about mix CDs? Also, a round-up of summer stuff we liked, we remember Murray Gershenz and Ray Dolby, we look back on twenty years of In Utero and fifty years of cassette tapes, we discuss Miley Cyrus under protest and more.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode is manned by Prof. Tuffley and Dr. Rob Levy with Widgett Walls in the driver’s seat, FSM help us all.

This episode’s central topic is: money. Can anybody make money in the music industry anymore? Or is everybody just screwed? Also remembering Slim Whitman and J.J. Cale, a round-up of live music, filming at gigs, musician visas in Russia, David Cameron’s mixtape, what’s up with Deadmau5 and Wiley, what’s up with Black Flag and litigation and why Mumford & Sons have proved there’s no God.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode is helmed by Prof. Tuffley with Dr. Rob Levy providing backup and Widgett on hand because every podcast needs a guy wearing an alarm clock around his neck.

This episode’s central topic is: remember the good old days when music and musical shenanigans could shock you? Yeah, us neither. We also discuss: new albums coming; festival lineups; mourning the losses of George Jones, Phil Ramone and Storm Thorgerson; music helping out with the situation in Boston; your Rock and Roll Hall of Fame <del datetime="2013-05-11T23:56:44+00:00">bitchfest</del> update and more.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode is helmed by Dr. Rob Levy with Prof. Tuffley providing backup and Widgett on hand mostly to record it.

This episode’s central topic is: fifty years of James Bond music…the good, the bad and A-ha. We also: mourn the loss of more music legends, update you on spring releases that interest us, wonder what Lil’ Kim is up to, wonder if Guns n Roses will be covering Steve Martin‘s “Dentist” song, wonder who’s handling Taylor Swift’s fanmail, wonder who’s going to back the animated Biggie show, wonder what’s up with Carole King’s musical, and then ponder a couple of instances of rock stars acting like…well, rock stars.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode is tolerated by Prof. Tuffley and Dr. Rob Levy with Widgett hitting speed bumps way, way too hard.

This episode’s central topic is: oh shit, it’s Valentine’s Day once more. We give you an update on our latest and favorite Anti-Valentine’s Day tracks. Also: the 50th Anniversary of the Beatles; the loss of Donald Byrd and Reg Presley; the return of My Bloody Valentine; The Isle of Wight festival shows that the world may be ending; Parlophone is an ex-parrot; and last minute, horribly wrong Grammy predictions.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode is run by Prof. Tuffley, stars Rob Levy and co-stars Widgett as the Beaver.

This episode’s central topic is: the international release schedule. Why hasn’t the industry figured out to just give the people what they want in a timely fashion? We explore it. Also, we look forward to 2013 and backward to our favorites from 2012. There’s also a method for using Coachella to figure out the upcoming new release schedule. We also say goodbye to Dave Brubeck, discuss the retro futurism of Amazon’s Auto Rip, wonder what Dr. Dre and Trent Reznor are getting up to, ponder the return to music of Justin Timberlake, ponder what the hell this Beyonce lip sync thing is all about, marvel at how Jonathan Coulton is kicking Glee‘s arse, and congratulate Adele for selling even more albums.

Recorded at DragonCon 2012, the three of us partnered with the Brit Media track for yet another iteration of this, a discussion of British music which roams (despite the attempt by special guest star Aaron Poole to keep us on topic) from place to place. Our fifth panelist and special guest star is Kim, who will attempt to keep us relatively mainstream.

As always, you have various and sundry table noises that we can’t avoid because we were all seated at the table. And I have no idea where the damn interference is coming from. And we apologize in advance for any questions you can’t hear. Also, please note: some sort of interference occurred for a few seconds around thirty minutes in that would have made you bleed from the ears, so we had to lose that short bit.

Please excuse the echoey nature of the chamber we were in as well as the various and sundry table noises we couldn’t get away from because, well, we were seated at the table.
This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode stars Prof. Tuffley and Rob Levy with Widgett in the pilot’s seat, crashing into buildings more often than not.

This episode’s central topic is name changes. What do they mean and do we even care? We also discuss the latest in live music, including what God has against Lollapalooza, what London has against Bruce Springsteen, and why you would attend a festival on a boat. In addition, we discuss the Olympics, punching Bieber and remember Kitty Wells.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode stars Prof. Tuffley in the chair with Rob Levy in the sidecar working the turret and Widge being dragged behind as always.

This episode’s central topic is…Kickstarter. Is it the future? Is it already on its way to being the past? Should we fear it, embrace it, or simply buy it a latte and remain friends? Plus: a discussion of upcoming festivals.

We also discuss the loss of MCA, Donna Summer, Bob Welch and Robin Gibb.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode stars Dr. Rob Levy in the chair with Prof. Tuffley and Widge providing backup.

This episode’s central topic is…ticket purchasing for live music events. Why is it such a pain in the ass? Also we remember Levon Helm, Earl Scruggs and Dick Clark. We talk Axl Rose vs. The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Weird Al vs. his label and Courtney Love vs. reality. Also, we check in with Record Store Day to see how it’s holding up.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode stars Prof. Tuffley and Dr. Rob Levy with Widge driving recklessly as much as possible.

This episode’s central topic is…musical genres and our slide towards musical singularity. Also we remember Ronnie Montrose, Whitney Houston and Davy Jones. We discuss problems between Rush and Rush, Paul McCartney and everybody who streams, your obligatory litigation update and we discuss our own musical genre: coffeecore.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode is hosted by Prof. Tuffley, assisted by Dr. Rob Levy and Widge is in the sidecar.

This episode’s central topic is…television shows about music. We’re talking of the Soul Train, American Bandstand, Top of the Pops vein. They slowly but surely disappeared from our television screens. How and why? Before we get there, though, we also explore: Disney vs. Joy Division, Newt Gingrinch vs. Survivor, Capitol Music vs. ReDigi (the used digital music store), the Oscars vs. common sense, the Sasquatch music festival (aka Sasquatch vs. The Sound Board’s budget and travel plans), Metallica’s music festival, Ben Folds Five returns, so does 2 Live Crew, and M.I.A. vs. Madonna. Plus: remembering Etta James, Don Cornelius and Johnny Otis. And also we throw in a Valentine’s Day addendum for music for both love and anti-love.

Editor’s Note: this episode was recorded before the sad news about Whitney Houston.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode is hosted by Dr. Rob Levy, assisted by Prof. Tuffley and Widge is in the sidecar.

This episode’s central topic is…sporting events and music. When and how should they mix? And we’re you’re a musician playing a sporting event, what does that mean…if anything at all? Also discussed: the BRIT Awards; EMI vs. Ireland; the return of Van Halen…again; the return of Guns n Roses…maybe; the return of Public Enemy…definitely; the return of Stone Roses…no, really. Also, Coachella is going to steal your soul. Or at least ours. And finally, we look back at 2011 and look ahead to 2012 with tons of music we liked and music we’re looking forward to. No, you’re not hallucinating–we say Nice Things for once.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode is hosted by me and I am tolerated by Prof. Tuffley and Dr. Rob Levy.

This episode’s central topic is…that there isn’t one. The three of us have been so damn busy we missed November and as a result, you get a mad mishmash of medium-sized topics as we try to catch up on everything that’s been going on. This includes–but is not limited to: Elvis Costello wants you to buy Louis Armstrong; SOPA nonsense; Spotify-related nonsense; Lady Gaga and Amazon broke Billboard; our standard ranting about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; our standard collective sighing and confusion about the Grammys and more.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode is hosted by Prof. Tuffley with support from Dr. Rob Levy and Widgett Walls.

This episode’s central topic are musical mad geniuses, and it basically splits into two types: crazy like a fox and just plain batshit crazy. And some are both. We also discuss the demise of R.E.M., the mad dash to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, fun and games and Spotify (and Rob’s new addiction), and the loss of Steve Jobs. We also try to make sense of what it all means.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode is hosted by Dr. Rob Levy with support from Prof. Tuffley and Widgett Walls.

This episode’s central topic wobbles around a bit, but it’s basically: the 90s. More specifically, two albums that have turned twenty years old: Nevermind by Nirvana and Ten by Pearl Jam. We talk of, around, above and behind both albums and what they meant to music in general. Before we get there, however, we go through some high points of the upcoming fall release schedule. We also say goodbye to Nickolas Ashford and Jerry Leiber, as well as Glen Campbell. Also discussed is Metallica and Lou Reed getting together…plus a new album from Doris Day?

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This month’s episode is hosted by myself with support from Dr. Rob Levy and Prof. Tuffley.

This episode’s central topic is: the magical musical heist. What legendary, rare or potentially lost thing would we put a crew together and go steal if we thought we could get away with it? I’m sure we missed some–add your own ideas in the comments.

Plus we discuss the loss of Amy Winehouse, Michael Burston, Facundo Cabral and Manuel Galban. We discuss the state of the music business. Yes, again. Where does Spotify and other digital services fit into this mess? Why are album sales down? We reflect on MTV turning 30 and Lollapalooza turning 20 and share some memories of both entities. Plus some other random bits of musical geekery and knowledge thrown in and seasoned to taste.

Along with that we also give you a rundown of various summer new releases that are of merit, a roll call of those we have recently lost, the kerfuffle between Weird Al and Lady Gaga, the battle between Dr. Dre and the new Death Row Records and a post-action review of Record Store Day 2011.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This episode stars Prof. J.M. Tuffley & Dr. Rob Levy with Widgett Walls in the chair.

This episode’s central topic is: when is it right to hang it up? When is it time to take your toys and go home from a musical perspective and what acts should probably do so, sooner than later? And where do fans figure in with all this? Along with that we discuss Britney Spears, the Glee creator gets better meds, doing shows for Qaddafi and more.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This episode is hosting by Prof. J.M. Tuffley with Dr. Rob Levy & Widgett Walls in attendance.

This episode’s central topic is the evolution of musical acts. Do we want our bands to change, to stay the same, or do some weird amalgam of both? That’s up for discussion. Along with that we discuss the Grammys, the Oscars, the death of the various Hero games, the new Radiohead release and more.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This episode is hosting by Dr. Rob Levy with Prof. J.M. Tuffley & Widgett Walls in attendance.

This episode’s central topic is Valentine’s Day and the music that can accompany it, or as the title says: songs of love, hate and indifference. To get there, we also discuss new releases, Glee vs. Kings of Leon, we discuss some artists we’ve recently lost, the fate of KUSF and possibly all of college radio, and Flavor Flav opens a chicken emporium.

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions. This episode stars Prof. J.M. Tuffley & Dr. Rob Levy with Widgett Walls in the chair and trying to keep up.

This episode’s central topic turned out to be threefold: first, Widge gets an education into remastering: the good, the bad and the marketing ploys. A smaller discussion of online music sales and touring blew up into something much larger. Also discussed: the Grammys; RIP: Trish Keenan of Broadcast; Aretha Franklin; Rolling Stone screws the pooch; MySpace and its impending death; Facebook Confessional! and more.
