May 29th, 2008 -
It's the original Tech Talk crew in the hizzy. Jeff, Kevin, and Pete tear up the Tech News scene with our off the cuff analysis of the latest stories. Okay, we get a little (or a lot) silly in the second half of the show, but I'm sure you'll laugh at our antics. This week we discuss a free internet service with strings attached, why you shouldn't go to theme parks in England, crazy Apple fanbois, why we hate the MPAA, the best place not to buy a Zune, crazy New Mexicans, and much more. You can provide feedback to the show at www.techtalkshow.com.

Not us... This week we discuss the lameness of Media Center, the crazy buying of both Ars Technica and Cnet, the insane trouncing by the Wii in April, Best Buy's audacity, A Jack Thompson shaming, and that's not all! This week we discuss some new games coming out next week, the WiiWare launch, Guitar Hero IV, our retarded representatives, the truth behind violent video games, the Air Force wants to create a botnet, Universal Music's hypocrisy, and more. Jeff and Kevin are in the hizouse and bring you a show stock full of stuttering, manly giggling, and at least one mention of machismo as it relates to bandwidth usage. This week we talk about the new Nintendo Channel on the Wii, the release of AVG Free 8, Microsoft's white flag, Blizzard's shunning of Steam, the real story when it comes to forbidden media, pedophiles on Wikipedia? and much more. In the end, the one thing you should take away from this show is that you need to go watch Iron Man in the theater. You can provide feedback to the show at www.techtalkshow.com.

April 17th, 2008 -
Tech Talk has been putting shows out for a year now, and since this was our 50th show that means we've only missed two weeks, right? It seems like we have missed more shows that that ;-). We start off this show as always by discussing what's been going on with in the last week. Only Kevin has anything interesting to add as he was in Boston for the first part of this week. For our anniversary we talk about tech news stories! This week we discuss Blockbusters odd attempt to buy Circuit City, the real culprits behind the undersea cable cuts, Oklahoma's ineptitude, NBC's attempt to get their content back on iTunes, parents selling game consoles, and much more. You can provide feedback to the show at www.techtalkshow.com.

April 3rd, 2008 -
Tech Talk strikes again with excellent tech news coverage and witty insight. This show features Chris, Jeff, and Kevin. Pete decided to fry his USB headset this evening, so we had to do the show without him. We discuss what's been going on in our techy lives and then of course go straight into our news stories. This week we converse about Sony getting a taste of their own medicine, Creative's folly, internet in the friendly skies, really expensive internet service, some shocking news about iTunes, Microsoft Surface finally surfaces, and even more. You can provide feedback to the show at www.techtalkshow.com.

Heya folks. This is going to be a weird show. Skype just did not want to behave on the evening we were recording, so sound quality is not the best on this show. Not only that, but some of the hosts seemed to be off doing other stuff while we were recording... We try to still deliver a solid show through all of these distractions and Talk about Tech. We discuss some underhandedness by Apple, the XM/Sirius merger and crazy demands from Clear Channel, Comcast and BitTorrent shaking hands, and much more more than you bargained for. You can provide feedback to the show at www.techtalkshow.com.

Kevin and Jeff, the REAL Tech Guys, join you once again to deliver the latest and greatest in tech news. As always this show is covered in very thick opinion, and Kevin is getting more and more lenient on what is considered a "curse" word. When it comes down to it, we just hope that we are entertaining. This week we cover the MPAA up down left and right, a bit of the music industry as well, the passing of Sir Arthur C. Clark, Apple rumors, Vista Service Pack 1, and the Coup de gras: copy protection on your DVR... We cover even more stories and we are full of tangents as usual. Be sure to listen to the end for Kevin and Jeff's picks of the week. You can provide feedback to the show at www.techtalkshow.com.

This show was not meant to be, but we made it happen anyway. Jeff and Kevin bring you a show full of frustration and sleepiness in a very uplifting and entertaining manner. We cover the gems of tech news from the last week including dumb MobiTV lawyers, Hulu hooping for TV, AOL still exists and apparently has money, Lionsgate releases crippled portable movies, Intel is innovating in more ways than one, and Blu-ray on the 360: will it happen? Listen to the show for details on these stories and others. And be sure to listen to Kevin and Jeff's picks at the end of the show. You can provide feedback to the show at www.techtalkshow.com.

I am pretty sure that at an hour and twenty minutes long that this is our longest show ever. But that is good news, right? You get 1.3 hours of excellent content from the Tech Guys Jeff and Kevin, and we get to talk about what we love. The Macworld Expo was on Tuesday, so we spend some time talking about the latest announcements. Jeff also has a story about why he is going to be playing a bit less on this 360 for some time to come. As always we cover the latest shenanigans that the RIAA has been up to, the delay of a video game we were all anticipating, more on HD DVD vs Blu-ray, and more. You can provide feedback to the show at www.techtalkshow.com.

Jeff, Kevin, and Pete bring you the latest in what's been going on in their geeky lives, as well as the latest in tech news. We have a lot of good stories this week. The High Definition format war may finally be over, but we're not happy with who's still standing. We discuss what's new in the music industry and try and find out why they hate their customers so much. Trent Reznor released the financial information from his latest online music venture and we're confused as to why he's so upset. Listen to the show for all the details.

PC World does one on the biggest tech disappointments and we pick through it to agree with them when they are right and disagree when they are wrong. This takes up a big chunk of the show, but we still have time to wax on about some Wii announcements and other news stories.

December 13th, 2007 -
It's been a slow news week, and it shows... We soldier on and maintain to entertain. The whole crew is here, Pete, Kevin, Jeff, and Chris. Although, Pete and Chris appear to be napping for half of the show. We cover the latest in copy protection lawsuits and crazy Representatives, AMD's struggle to keep their head above the water, CompUSA dies and no one sheds a tear, more crazyness from Microsoft, and more. Also, male camel toe (I've said too much...) You can provide feedback to the show by calling 206-888-2728.

It's the Pete and Kevin show! This is a first with only the two of us, and we make the best of it. Luckily, there weren't any stories about Linux or Windows... We discuss the Activision/Vivendi merger, Google's plans for the 700MHz band, more retardedness from the MPAA, and much more. You can provide feedback to the show by calling 206-888-2728.

November 15th, 2007 -
It's just Jeff and Kevin this week, but what we lack in numbers we make up for in gusto (and Guitar Hero III talk). We discuss what's been going on the past week, and of course we cover the latest tech news. We had some good stories this week, but the highlight of the show would have to be the two rants. We rant about Higher Education Bill 494, and a story about Canadian piracy launches us into a rant about the music industry. Not only do we rant about the music industry, but we solve all the problems with it as well. Listen for the whole story, and a business plan that's solid gold. You can provide feedback to the show by calling 206-888-2728.

Show #30: Wireless Security

November 1st, 2007 -
Our thirtieth show, that seems like a lot... This is also the first episode of Tech Talk with 100% less Pete. He has a cold and is overall feeling under the weather. But that didn't phase us, oh no, we tread on. In fact, this show contains a great nugget of information within our tech news stories. Kevin goes over the benefits of wireless network security and why you should secure your network. We also may finally have a winner in the HD home video wars, only time will tell though. For more details, listen to the show. You can provide feedback to the show by calling 206-888-2728.

- Show Notes -
We spend some time in today's show talking about wireless security. Protect yourself!

October 17th, 2007 -
We're back with another episode of Tech Talk. For the first time, we have a guest on this show: Chris from Idaho. Pete and Chris served together in Uzbekistan and until about a year or so ago Chris lived in the Phoenix area. We discuss what's been going on with us since the last show. Pete and Kevin have been sinking much time with The Orange Box and Chris has been playing The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass. Pete also has a rant about Java. Jeff is tempted to get The Orange Box and would definitely buy the PC version over the Xbox 360 version. Jeff speaks of his love for Puzzle Quest on Xbox Live Arcade. You can provide feedback to the show by calling 206-888-2728.

We've gone off the air and are now broadcasting over this strange new technology called the internet. Of course, if you've already been listening to the podcast version of our show this means very little to you. The professionalism is gone, so get ready for the background interference while we discuss our tech stories. Speaking of technology news stories, we cover quite a bit in this episode. Listen to why Pete hated ubuntu, did Jammie get a fair trial?, good and bad Wii news, and the FCC does something right. Listen, learn, and maybe laugh. It's okay, we won't tell anyone else you're a geek. You can provide feedback to the show by calling 206-888-2728.

We love to help out our listeners, so keep the calls coming.
July 7th, 2007-
I'm not one to believe in superstitions, but this show occurred on 7/7/07 and it was our 13th show. Apparently 13 is more unlucky than 777 is lucky because a technical glitch resulted in the loss of the first few minutes of our show. However, the rest of the show is full of technology news and our take on all things tech.

There are lots of news stories to cover in this show as we didn't have a live show last week. We also share a funny audio clip from a video on sarcasticgamer.com.

Show 10 is available for consumption. We discuss Apple's World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) and what interesting information came out of there. There is no time to cover any other news stories because we take lots of calls in this show. Don't worry, though, we'll cover all the tech news in next week's show.

Support Calls:
Catherine from Chandler called in with a problem concerning her computer locking up randomly due to high explorer.exe usage. We recommended verify that she has no spyware using Spybot Search and Destroy. Unfortunately if that doesn't fix the problem she'll be looking at a Windows re-install.

Peter in Phoenix calls to spread his love for Apple's Mac OS X and his wish that they would release a version for non-Apple hardware. He found a program online that allowed him to intall OS X on any computer, but realizing this is illegal did not keep it. Apple will likely never release a boxed version of their operating system that will run on any computer because they want to have control over the user experience and also don't want to deal with the kind driver issues.

Carla in Glendale bought a Microsoft Zune for her son, is running Windows 2000 at home, and cannot install the Zune software. Unfortunately it turns out that the Zune software does not support Windows 2000. Ironically, iTunes does, so Carla would have been better off buying her son an iPod. If she cannot return the Zune her only alternative is to try and upgrade to a newer operating system, or buy a new computer.

William in Phoenix is having problems with Windows starting up. This was right after a Norton antivirus update and he didn't allow Norton to edit the registry. This may be what caused his issue as Norton puts very deep hooks into the operating system kernel and registry. Based on his description he may also have spyware. We recommend using AVG Antivirus, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Windows Defender to help keep your system clean.

Ivy from Phoenix is having a problem running Internet Explorer on a computer. He installed and ran Opera just fine, but even after upgrading to IE 7 the browser will still not open. To us, this means that something IE needs is corrupted in the operating system, an this can only be fixed by re-installing Windows. Fortunately, you can Repair an installation of Windows without wiping the hard drive. Just boot from your Windows install disk, press Enter to setup Windows XP, when prompted to repair or install a fresh copy, press R to repair the installation.

Carrie in Scottsdale calls to find out if she would have any problems running Quickbooks on Vista. According to Intuit's website only version 2007 of Quickbooks will run on Vista. The 2006 version will not.

Show #9

June 9th, 2007-
Another show bites the dust. Lots of good stories this week. We talk about patent reform, RIAA, Google, and Vietnam fiber. We also take multiple listener calls with both comments and questions. Our show in two weeks is going to be pre-recorded. However, you can still give us a call at 206-666-4689 to leave a question that we'll answer on our pre-recorded show.

- Show Notes -

Support Calls:
Joe from Gilbert calls to discuss the patent reform story. He postulates that the new reform could make it difficult for the "little guy" to file patents. However, as long as the reform is handled as discussed in the article we covered, this shouldn't be an issue. He also provides advice for would-be inventors.

Paul in Scottsdale had some questions about the functionality of WebTV. We do some quick sleuthing online to answer his questions.

Carrie from Scottsdale calls to discuss Google book search and wants to know how they are getting around the fact the most books have a copyright disclaimer. Kevin postulates that this may be because they are not reproducing the content in the book.

June 2nd, 2007-
Kevin forgets how to talk at the beginning of this show, but it gets better after that. We spend a lot of time discussing the IFPI's "Ten Inconvienient Truths About File-Swapping." In the end you'll either hate the IFPI or feel sorry for them. As always we answer listener's tech questions and cover more tech news stories.

- Show Notes -

Support Calls:
Evan in North Carolina tuned into our show by accident and tells us all why copy protection and draconic laws irk him. He specifically talks about an article he read in The Source magazine concerning people being arrested for selling and distributing their own music.

Leonard in Glendale called to discuss a few articles in The Atlantic magazine regarding how quickly music can "get around" on peer-to-peer networks and also how someone got back at a spammer. We suspect he was talking about Nigerian 419 scams and websites like 419baiter.com that string these scammers along.

Ivy from Phoenix calls to ask how he can get back at spammers. He reports his spam through official channels, but nothing seems to be happening. We explain that spammers are hard to stop because the e-mail isn't actually coming from the spammer but from "zombie" computers being used by the spammers. Ivy also points out that many of the spams point him to Geocities accounts and he is reporting those accounts to Yahoo. Yahoo is most likely taking the sites down as they find them or as they are reported. However, Geocities doesn't generate much money for Yahoo so they are most likely reticent to spend large sums of money cleaning up a service that is pretty much running on autopilot and bringing in minimal amounts of advertising dollars.

Show #7

May 26th, 2007-
Show Seven was another news-centric show. We discussed hot topics like the recent news about Microsoft's claims that Linux is infringing on their patents. We also take listener's calls as always, and there were some good questions this week. As before, Kevin and Pete argue some more...

- Show Notes -
Kevin and Jeff had mixed feelings about the Heroes finale. Bush gets the poop treatment from a bird. Kevin received a Burning Crusade trial disc in the mail, and was the victim of buying pirated software through Amazon. He got his money back, though.

Support Calls:
Zelph from Phoenix needs a power supply for a used LCD monitor he bought at a police auction (Samsung 770TFT). We recommended that the internet would probably be the only place he could find one of these.

Roman in Mesa called asking for recommendations on an Internet Service Provider (ISP). Currently, we think that Cox Cable provides the best internet connection in the Valley, but Roman doesn't get Cox service at his house. We suggested that he could use Qwest DSL, or Sprint EVDO for an internet connect wherever he can get a phone signal.

Al in Scottsdale is looking for a Windows Mobile PDA without a phone. His need is very similar to Sandra's from two weeks ago: a PDA in the medical profession. Palm still makes standalone PDAs but they don't run Windows Mobile. However, according to Palm, the TX can store your Microsoft Office documents.

May 19th, 2007-
More Tech Talk goodness found within. All news and listener's calls this week. Lots of stories, and full of pirate talk, Arrr!

- Show Notes -
Pete bought new computer parts to upgrade his home computer. He also bought his wife a new MacBook. Kevin complains about Cox changing what channels they are re-broadcasting the local high definition TV shows on. BREAKING NEWS: Starcraft 2.

Support Calls:
Chris from Phoenix has a problem where one of his computers on his network is unable to talk to the rest of the computers on the same network. We suggested that his problem is probably security software on the one computer (most likely Norton Internet Security) and that disabling or uninstalling that software should fix his problem. We received an e-mail from Chris the next day confirming that our suggestion resolved his issue.

After some difficulty connecting with Charlie in Phoenix he tells us of a problem he is having with a stretched image on his HDTV. He is tuning in a high definition channel so this shouldn’t be happening. We suggested that he play with the settings on his TV. Jeff pointed out that his HDTV has a setting that will make a 16:9 image appear stretched, and possibly this is what’s happening on Charlie’s TV.

Mike from Gilbert calls again, this time with concerns about the legality and his liability of watching streaming online TV shows from overseas. As the laws are currently written, Mike cannot be held liable for what he is doing. He also asked if there was any way to get this content onto his television. Kevin mentions that a media extender like the D-Link DSM-320 may do what he is looking for.

Dan in Maricopa calls to educate us on Al Gore’s political role in the creation of the internet. He also has a question about how easily someone can “accidentally” delete data from a hard drive if they’ve been court ordered not to. If this happens it probably wasn’t an accident, but it would be hard to prove as there is not much evidence. Even if you can prove that the person formatted the hard drive, you wouldn’t know if it was done before or after the court order.

Show #5

May 12th, 2007-
Show number 5 was a blast. I think we're really starting to get comfortable with this "being on the radio" thing and letting loose a bit. I hope we didn't scare anyone away, though. Our main topic today was HD DVD and Blu-ray. We discuss the differences and make some recommendations on whether you should buy either one. Pete and Kevin take jabs at each other again.

- Show Notes -

We share what’s been going on in the last week. Pete doesn’t watch TV, and Jeff’s been watching Heroes. Kevin shares a crazy story about movie quotes popping into his head.

Main Topic:
Last week we talked about HDTV and the technology behind high definition television shows, and in this show we discussed HD DVD and Blu-ray. I said last week that 720p was the lowest resolution that is technically considered High Definition. The maximum resolution of a DVD is 480p. So, while it will look better on an HDTV, it isn’t quite high definition. People want to watch high definition movies on their high definition TVs. The problem is that the higher resolution a video is the more space it needs. There isn’t enough room on a DVD for a motion picture length high definition movie. Two new, competing formats were created: HDDVD and Blu-ray. It’s Betamax Vs VHS all over again. Betamax was Sony’s version of the magnetic tape video cassette, and it would not play in a VHS player. As we all know, VHS won this battle and whoever bought a Betamax player had wasted their money. Well, Sony is involved this time, too. Their format is Blu-ray. In the show we discuss the similarities, differences, and costs of these two formats. We also go over the new copy protection on these discs, and conclude with recommendations.

Support Calls:
Jeff from Scottsdale calls about what to look for in a notebook computer. His options are pretty open: Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, Apple, or Sony. Look for 2GB of RAM for running Vista. He also asked about hard drive encryption. He can use TrueCrypt, or buy Windows Vista Ultimate edition and use BitLocker.

Sandra from Phoenix called in looking for advice on a PDA to buy for medical school. She wants to store lots of information on her PDA. It’s hard to find a PDA these days that isn’t also a phone. Something like the Palm Treo would probably suit her best, and she can upgrade the memory fairly cheaply with an SD card from Newegg.com.

Joe in Gilbert wonders why people don’t do their own hardware projects any more. Kevin suggests that he may be interested in Make Magazine. There are still hardware projects, but more people are doing software projects these days. It’s easier and you don’t have to learn to solder…

Show #4

May 5th, 2007 -
We discuss technical news topics, and take listener's questions. The main topic of this show was HDTV and focused on what makes a show High Definition and explains the terms you may come across when buying an HDTV. We also discussed the differences between HDTV and Digital Broadcasting. Pete stands up for Windows.

- Show Notes -

Main Topic:
High Definition Television – At the end of 2006 a little over a quarter of US households own HDTVs. It is predicted that by 2011 this percentage will increase to 70%. With everyone adopting this new technology, we wanted to clear up some of the terminology surrounding HDTV.

DTV Vs HDTV – Digitial television is a method of broadcasting a television signal. In the past, all TV broadcasts have been analog. The FCC has mandated that by February 17, 2009 all TV broadcasts must be digital. They are doing this to free up bandwidth for other uses. An added benefit is that by changing over to digital broadcasting the broadcasters have come up with a new standard called ATSC (the analog standard is referred to as NTSC) that allows for the support of widescreen and HDTV shows.

Resolution – High Definition Television is a higher resolution image. Resolution in television is normally referred to as the number of vertical lines that can be displayed. You may have heard the terms 720p, 480p, and 1080i before. These are all standard TV resolutions. The “p” and “i" are abbreviations for progressive and interlaced respectively. Interlaced means that for each frame displayed on the television only half of the lines are drawn. First the even lines are drawn and then the odd ones. Progressive means that all lines are presented at the same time. The minimum resolution of High Definition TV is 720p.

Support Calls:
Benny in Phoenix Arizona called looking for advice on buying his first home computer. Pete advised that he use free time on his work computer to read reviews online. Kevin chimed in to offer 5 to 9’s services to build a computer for him to save the time of research, and to end up with a higher quality computer than anything he could buy online. Benny also had questions about the differences between Macs and PCs concerning ease of use.

Ivy from Phoenix called about a slow computer. He tried a registry cleaner (we don’t recommend them…) and that didn’t help. Most likely he either has too many programs running in the background, or he may have a rootkit. The easiest and surest way to solve both problems is to backup and re-install Windows. We advised that he could try and uninstall programs to speed up the system, and run RootkitRevealer to see if he has a rootkit. If that doesn’t solve the problem, re-installing Windows is really the only course of action.

Pete’s Rant:
Pete defends Windows. He points out that Microsoft is the “big guy” and as a result everyone picks on them. Because they are big they get targeted by viruses and security exploits. He also reminds us that every time a new version of software is released there are going to be bugs, and Vista is no different.

Show #3

April 28th, 2007 -
Show number 3 was lots of fun. We talked about Copy Protection and why it helps no one. We also shared a bit about ourselves.

- Show Notes -

Main Topic:
Copy Protection – Otherwise known as Digital Rights Management (DRM), Copy Protection prevents consumers from using media they purchased in ways many people feel they should. It also fails to stop pirates from stealing the content, so really the media corporations are only hurting their customers.

Chris from Phoenix, AZ called us to add his thoughts on DRM and how he had to "work around" a problem when a CD he had purchased wouldn't import properly into iTunes.

Suzanna in Mesa is a musician who called in to give the perspective of copy protection from a content creator. Her music was pirated in Europe, and while she was upset that people were stealing her music she realized that there was no way to prevent it and used it to her advantage by referring to her music as being so good that people were willing to steal it.

Support Calls:
Mike in Gilbert, AZ called again. He had trouble visiting the website for AVG Antivirus that we mentioned last week. We provided the link again. As always, check these show notes for links, especially the long ones...

Mike also asked about a program called System Mechanic 7 that we do not have experience with, but another listener, Gary, called in to inform us that based on his experiences System Mechanic 6 is good, but 7 slows down your computer more than it's worth. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us, Gary! Pete chimed in to say that if you absolutely feel the need to use a registry cleaner he recommends Microsoft's free registry cleaner RegClean.

Gary had a question about his high speed internet connection via cable that appeared to be faster on his old computer compared to his new one. As far as he could tell, the only difference was that the new computer was running Windows XP Service Pack 2. We were stumped as to why this would cause any problems other than maybe firewall issues, but recommended trying to see if the firewall was the issue. Most likely the problem is with the cable company not properly handling the bandwidth of customers in Gary's neighborhood. Pete recommended dslreports.com as a tool for checking his actual speed and comparing it to other people in his area.

Chris from Phoenix, AZ had a question about data backups and whether optical media like CDs and DVDs have a high shelf life. We definitely recommend backing up your data, and CDs and DVDs are great for backing up data. Based on our personal experiences we have burned CDs that are over 10 years old and still working just fine. If the data is really important, though, there's nothing wrong with keeping multiple copies and making new backups periodically to ensure that a single hard drive crashing, a disc being unreadable, or a fire in your house will leave you without your important information.

Internet troubles???

It may be a good idea to print this guide, since you won’t be able to access the internet in this situation.

If you are using Cox as your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and the command ipconfig /all returns an IP address 169.254.x.x (APIPA) you have lost your connection with Cox, or your router, if you have one.

Troubleshooting (verbose)
First things first... unplug your cable modem and router (if you have one). Wait a few second then plug your cable modem back in and then your router. Use the command ipconfig /all again to see if your IP address has changed from 169.254.x.x to something else. If it has open a web browser and see if a page will load.

Still getting a 169.254.x.x address dig a little deeper...
Try using the following command.
ipconfig /release
This parameter disables TCP/IP for adapters configured to obtain an IP address automatically. This will release the APIPA address that your network adapter has been assigned. Next, use the following command.
ipconfig /renew
This will renew DHCP configuration for all adapters (unless otherwise specified). Once you have done this check to see if you have a new IP address with....
ipconfig /all
If you get an IP address that starts with anything but 169.254.x.x you should be in good shape.
Try to ping (see Command Line, Ping) a website such as google.com or yahoo.com. If you get a reply you are in business.

Or... if that is too much work restarting your computer will work too, but what fun is that?

Still no internet, consider calling a technician to further troubleshoot your network.

Show #2

April 21st, 2007 -
We now have two shows under our belt and I still haven’t figured out how to end the show on time… Hopefully the third time will be the charm.

- Show Notes -

Controversial Topic:
Violence and Video Games – We discussed how the recent VT shooting was inaccurately related to violent video games and widened the discussion to include how video games have become the media’s scapegoat for teen violence.
Jack Thomson blames VT shootings on Counter Strike (also here)
No strong link seen between violent video games and aggression
Violence-Related Behaviors Among High School Students

We also took a few calls from our audience about this issue. Larry from Phoenix, AZ points out that religion causes more violence than video games. Mathew from Bedford, TX is appalled by how the media handles these kinds of issues and focuses more on celebrity news. Allan from Scottsdale, AZ doesn’t agree with us based on his experiences, but was also unable to provide a good example of why he feels this way.

Support Calls:
Charlie from Phoenix, AZ called about a question concerning whether data could be recovered off of a failed hard drive. He referenced our newsletter which you can find here.

Brian in Phoenix, AZ stumped us with a question about a web camera for his Mac Pro. I have since researched his issue and came up with a few possible solutions. First, if he already owns a digital video recorder, he can set that up as a web camera over firewire. He can also try an open source driver for USB cameras called macam at Sourceforge. Otherwise, these two products may work for him: Unibrain Fire-i camera, and iMage USB webcam.

Mike in Gilbert, AZ wanted to know the best way to fight spyware and viruses. We suggested Spybot Search and Destroy for removing spyware, Windows Defender for keeping it off, and AVG Antivirus for avoiding viruses. Also, make certain you are using Firefox to browse the internet.
