Opening & Closing Film announcement

Big news for you!

Pan-asian WW2 blockbuster, MY WAY (마이 웨이), starring Jang dong-gun, Joe Odigiri, Fan Bing Bing announced as the OPENING FILM of TERRACOTTA FESTIVAL 2012. MY WAY is the most expensive Korean film to be made to date.

Sono Sion's post-tsunami Fukushima film, HIMIZU (ヒミズ), will close the festival. HIMIZU will be released by Third Window Films and is the third of Sono's films to be released by this excellent label, following LOVE EXPOSURE and COLD FISH.

The festival takes place 12 - 15 April 2012 at Prince Charles Cinema, London and is attended by directors and actors from Asia. We will be announcing full line up, plus details of our TERROR COTTA HORROR NIGHT on Friday 13th April, as well as who's coming to the festival, within the next two weeks.

achtung!

STOP THE TRAFFIC!
Terracotta will be at the Berlin Film Festival 2012.
We won't be bringing you the latest celebrity gossip.
We won't be bringing you the hottest dresses on the red carpet type photos.
We won't be giving you film reviews and our opinion on who should win the Silver Bear.

Instead, we will be telling you about the hard graft of the market side of the festival - the talks, the back to back meetings, the drinks. the deals. This is where the real engine of the film business is. It's fun and glamour making the film and doing press junkets if you are cast and crew. Someone's gotta get it from the editing suite into the cinemas, onto DVDs and onto VOD players.

We'll also tell you what the upcoming hot Asian films we can expect to be watching in the second half of this year and what's in production for next year.

And let you know which films we pick up for both distribution and festival.

Terracotta Festival 2012 rebrand, TERROR COTTA NIGHT

new logo, new event

This week we showed off our new logo, designed by our Creative Agency Partner WHAT IS BOBO (http://whatisbobo.com/).

It's a play on the pixels in films - zooming deeper into a film, like our festival helps UK audiences to venture further into the world of Asian Cinema. The design can also be overlayed on a series of images, and throughout the next couple of months, there will be more examples of the versatile nature of the logo. This is an effective design to build a long term visual identity.

Also this week, we announced that we will hold a TERROR COTTA HORROR NIGHT on Friday 13th April as part of Terracotta Festival. This will be an additional event on top of our usual line-up, in the form of a triple bill from 9pm on Friday 13th April at the Prince Charles Cinema. More details on programme and ticketing to follow in the coming weeks, so keep following our blog.

One of the great perks of our job is to go and meet people and talk about film all the time.

Today's agenda is:

* meeting with cinema bookers today to present our 2012 line-up and very positive reactions so far this morning - will announce our line-up over the following weeks (stay tuned to this blog and we will point you to the sites with the exclusive announcements). One film in particular sees the much anticipated and welcomed return to the UK cinema spotlight for a popular auteur.

* meeting Asia House to work on marketing initiatives together jointly for the excellent ASIA HOUSE Pan Asia Film Festival (8th March 2012) http://www.asiahouse.org/

* presenting our 2012 line-up to our sales team

This is probably the 'fun phase' of the film's lifecycle (as opposed to having to watch 10 terrible films in the early hours of the morning to find that one amazing one, for example, or trying to deal with customs who won't let a film print into the country when the opening day is the next day).

But it's all good in the end... as long as we find the films, and as long as you like what we do, then it's job done.

RED LIGHT REVOLUTION, REVENGE: A LOVE STORY

two very different films

You couldn't get two films that were more different.

Timed to coincide with Chinese New Year, on Monday 23rd January, RED LIGHT REVOLUTION gets it's official UK release at The Prince Charles Cinema, having won the Audience Award at Terracotta Festival 2011 and a string of international film festival accolades.

The press say: “If you see one sex shop comedy this year, do not miss this one!”

The hilarious feel-good comedy tells the story of a down on his luck Beijinger (sacked by his cab company, wife runs off with another man) who throws in all his chips to open a sex toy store. Little did he know that he was a target of a high pressured sales scheme operated by a gangster who will break his legs if he doesn't deliver a weekly payment.

Nor did he realise the bureaucratic nightmare of opening a store in China. To cap it off, the neighbourhood he chose is full of geriatrics!

Shot by Sam Voutas, an Australian brought up in Beijing, it's been compared by the press to The Full Monty.
