Olympus Corporation is a Japan-based company which is known for its optics and imaging products. Established on October 12, 1919, Olympus was initially specialized in microscope and thermometer businesses. It is having its headquarter in Tokyo, Japan, while in United States, its operations are located in Center Valley, Pennsylvania, and European undertakings are located in Hamburg, Germany.

The company is named after Mount Olympus, which is the home of the 12 supreme gods and goddesses according to Greek mythology. The reason for this name as given by the company is to “reflect its strong aspiration to create high quality, world famous products”.

According to Japanese mythology, eight million gods and goddesses are believed to live in Takamagahara, the peak of Mt.Takachiho. (Takachiho is the name of the predecessor of Olympus Corporation.) Keeping in the tradition of naming the company after the abode of Gods and Goddess, The Company selected the name “Olympus” as the trademark because Mt.Olympus, like Mt.Takachiho, was the home of gods and goddesses. This trademark is not only the abode of Gods but also reflects what Olympus says is their aspiration to illuminate the world with its optical devices, just like Takamagahara brought light to the world.

The company changed quite a few times in the course of its journey. Takachiho Seisakusho had altered itself to Takachiho Optical Co., Ltd. in 1942 when it became clear that optical products are the mainstay of the company. In 1949, in an attempt to enhance its corporate image and appeal to the global audience, the name was changed to Olympus Optical Co. Ltd. As the company continued to grow and expand, it was given a new name in 2003. The name was changed to Olympus Corporation, to unify the corporate name and the well-known brand.

As already mentioned the company had its share of name changes in its eventful journey. “Olympus” has dwelt on the insignia of the corporation since the period of Takachiho Seisakusho, the forefather of Olympus Corporation.

As the name changed so did the logos of the company underwent changes. The company consists of 5 different logos.

To start with, the first Logo was created in 1919. The first corporate logo unexpectedly not “Olympus” but it was “TOKIWA”. Derived from Tokiwa Shokai, the company that the founder, Takeshi Yamashita, had worked for, “Tokiwa” became its first logo. Tokiwa Shokai also held an equity stake in Takachiho Seisakusho and was entrusted with the task of marketing Takachiho products. The logo peruses “TOKIWA TOKYO.” The “G” and “M” signs above are conceived to be endorses of, Goro Matsukata, the head of state of Tokiwa Shokai.

Logo created in 1921. The Olympus brand was formally introduced in February 1921. This logo was primarily used for microscopes and other such products. Not only microscopes, but brochures and newspaper ads for cameras also sported this logo. The “OLYMPUS TOKYO” trademark is the most popular known.

In 1921, the second logo was created. There was also a time when OIC was used instead of TOKYO in the logo. OIC is the full form for Optical Industrial Company. It was an interpretation of Olympus’ Japanese shared name at that period. The logo created was used for GT-I and GT-II endoscopes.

Logo created in 1970. This logo, used from 1970 to 2000, was designed so as to demonstrate the quality and sophistication of the company’s products.

Logo created in 2001. With the changing time the logo was changed and the new logo reflected the current technology. The yellow line underneath the logo represented light and boundless possibilities of digital technology. The yellow line was called “Opto-Digital Pattern”. It was a symbol representing the dynamic and innovative nature of Opto-Digital Technology and Olympus Corporation. This logo represents the brand name and is known as the Communication Symbol of Olympus.

Olympus has always been known for its camera and lens design. Olympus introduced its first camera, the Semi-Olympus, I in the year 1936 and since then it has never turned back. The company employed the philosophy of kaizen effectively, and it has been giving better and improved product year after year since then. In 1959 the first truly innovative camera series from Olympus, the PEN models were launched. .The features include half-frame format, allowing 72 pictures of 18 × 24 mm format on a standard 36 exposure roll of film. All this features made PEN cameras compact and portable for their time.

Olympus OM Lenses

The PEN system design team, led by Yoshihisa Maitani, can be credited for creating the OM system, a full frame professional 35 mm SLR system designed to compete with Nikon and Canon’s bestsellers. The OM system preceded the small is the powerful slogan and introduced a new trend towards more compact cameras and lenses, being much smaller than its competitors and presenting innovative design features such as through-the-lens flash automation. Even this small system included 14 different bodies and approximately 60 Zuiko-branded lenses.

Olympus Quick Flash camera

However, Olympus did not move into the autofocus market and could not capitalize on the gains it made earlier, ultimately leading to their decline as a maker of professional film camera systems as its competitors dominated the market.

With the emerging trends and the current scope of digital technology, the company is making foray in the digital market. The firm is a leading producer of digital cameras. It has a large variety of compact digital cameras. Olympus is the designer of the Four-Thirds System standard for digital single-lens reflex camera design and development, and it uses the same frame size as the PEN cameras.

In 1983, Olympus, in collaboration with Canon, branded a range of video recording equipment manufactured by JVC, and it was named “Olympus Video Photography”, even employing renowned photographer Terance Donovan to promote the range. A second version of the system was available the year after, but this marked the Olympus’ last foray into the world of consumer video equipment until digital cameras became popular.

Olympus is also the inventor of the Microcassette. The Olympus Pearlcorder L400, released in the 1980s, was the smallest and lightest Microcassette Voice recorder ever offered for sale.

It was an interpretation of Olympus‘ Japanese shared name at that period.

Eastman Kodak Company is a multinational US corporation which produces a variety of products ranging from imaging and photographic materials and equipment to films, instant cameras and digital frames. Though it is best known for its wide range of photographic film products, Kodak is re-focusing to capture two major markets: digital photography and digital printing.

Kodak was founded by inventor George Eastman and businessman Henry A. Strong in Rochester, and Jamestown New York in 1899 and since then the company has gone places. As it stands today it is the multinational company with operations in almost every country. But the company was not always called Kodak, when it started it was called Eastman Dry Plate company and the General Aristo Company. Formed in 1899 the General Aristo Company started its operation in Jamestown New York, with George Eastman as treasurer, and this company purchased the stock of American Aristotype Company. The Eastman Dry Plate Company can be credited for coming up with the first cameras suitable for use by ordinary folks and, which do not require expert handling. The Kodak Company is named after the first simple roll film cameras produced by Eastman Dry Plate Company, known as the “Kodak”. Since the camera can be used by anyone the product became a runaway success so much so that the word Kodak was incorporated into the company name. Since the word Kodak became a kind of new lingua franca for photography, George Eastman registered the trademark Kodak on September 4, 1888. The Eastman Kodak Company was born in 1892. The new company had its offices in Rochester, New York. George Eastman, Kodak’s founder, true to the functioning of the camera coined the advertising slogan, “You press the button, and we do the rest.” This slogan was a big hit. In 1901 the Eastman Kodak Company procured the stock of General Aristo Company.

As for the name Kodak, the story goes with something like this. It’s been said that the letter “K” had been kind of Eastman’s personal favorite. In fact, he is been quoted as saying, “it seems a strong, incisive sort of letter”. There were mainly three reasons, which went into the creation of the name Kodak. They were

There should be the short name.

It should be clear so that nobody can mispronounce it.

It should not resemble anything or be associated with anything other than Kodak.

Though there is another theory doing the rounds according to which the name “Kodak” was the brainchild of David Houston, a fellow photographic inventor who held the patents to several roll film camera concepts which he later sold to Eastman. The basis for this theory stems from the fact that Houston, who started receiving patents in 1881, chose “Nodak” as a nickname of his home state, North Dakota (NoDak). This is, however, not yet proven and there are historians who cite that Kodak was trademarked prior to Eastman buying Houston’s patents. As such nothing can be proven and Houston’s association with the name “Kodak” remains a mystery.

Film

In spite of the fact that Kodak has heavily reduced its professional still film ranges, it still remains the largest supplier of photographic films in the world, for the amateur, professional, and motion picture market. Kodak is making forays in the digital imaging market (which is stated to grow immensely) which lead it to announce that the company will no longer manufacture Kodachrome, a film product that, while arguably it’s most famous, will not be manufactured in the same manner that Kodak uses for other film products. That leaves only Dwayne’s Photo in Parsons, Kansas, an independent facility, which processes Kodachrome, and it has agreed to continue developing rolls until 2010.

Photo printing

Silver halide (AgX) paper is used for printing from film and digital images and Kodak is the largest producer of silver halide. Silver halide paper is used in minilabs, located in retail stores and larger central photo lab operations (CLOs), for photo printing. With a total of around 80,000 Picture Kiosks in retail locations worldwide, Kodak is automatically a leading global manufacturer of photo kiosks, which produce “prints in minutes” from digital sources. Not only this, in collaboration with retail partners like CVS, Walmart etc, Kodak markets Picture CDs and other photo products such as calendars, photo books and photo enlargements.

Technical Support

No company in today’s market can survive without a strong technical support. And Kodak does not fall short in this area also. It not only provides technical phone support for their products but Kodak also offers onsite service for devices such as printers, microfilm and microfiche machines, and photocopiers, for which they duly send trained technicians who make repairs in the field.

Their technology came when there was a srve short of surface mount memory chips in the high tech market place-in 1980’s.Two guys Jhon Tu and David Sun were desperate to find a solution. They put their engineering expertise to work and came up with a new single In-Linememory Module commonly known as SIMM.

About KIngston’s Owners
Tu and Sun had met in 1982 and started Camintonn Corporation, a manufacturer of enhancement products for DEC systems. This fly-by-night company began in Tu’s garage, with the two businessmen carrying computer memory chips in the back seats of their cars. By 1986, business took off with sales of $9 million. That year, they sold the company to AST Research for $6 million, investing their gains in the stock market.
When the stock market crashed in 1987, Tu and Sun lost almost everything. Then they saw an opportunity to recoup their losses. At that time, the computer industry was suffering from a shortage of memory modules for personal computers. Tu and Sun seized a simple solution to the problem, designing an industry standard Single In-Line Memory Module (SIMM) with an alternative chip that was readily available. This product and a mere $4,000 launched Kingston’s operations, and the company soon began developing memory products for PCs.

Nippon Kogaku Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha (Nikon) was established on July 25, 1917. At the beginning, they were known by the name, Nippon Kogaku, K.K., or Japan Optical Co. It was commenced as an optical weapon shop, whose motive was to satiate the Imperial Japanese Navy’s goal. It helped Japanese navy to develop self-reliant in their optical instrument need and dwindle the foreign supplies in this field.
Nippon Kogaku Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha (Nikon) was fashioned by the coalition of three optical companies, one of which was an old company founded in 1881. Initially, their employee strength was just 200, accompanied by eight German technicians. These technicians were invited to join the company in July 1917, and they joined the company in January 1921. They were from an optical firm, and not from a camera manufacturer company.
In the initial stage, Nikon started producing a large variety of optical merchandises like the transits,, telescope, surveying instrument, microscopes and other optical measuring device for industry and science. Due to the manufacturing of these optical products, Nikon became very popular among industrial and scientific communities, but not among general masses.
In 1930s, Nikon started producing a series of the photographic camera lens, which has size varying from 50mm to 700mm. Nippon Kogaku, K.K., or Japan Optical Co., was known by the name “Nikkor”. This name was derived from the name “Nikko”, which the company initially uses for their manufactured microscope. By the end of 1937, the company was capable of producing 50mm f4.5, 3.5 and 2.0 Nikkors, which they used in the renowned Hansa Canon. By the mid of 1947, Nippon Kogaku Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha was capable of producing all types of canon’s lenses. Hence, the entire prewar and postwar canon was installed with Nikkor lenses.
As we have noticed, Nippon Kogaku Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha was able to produce a lens of the miniature camera, but the company is yet to manufacture a camera of its own. However, their time changes with the start of World War II. The Japanese government chooses the company to be the biggest dealer of the ocular cannon for the Japanese military machine. By this time, their employee strength had grown to 23,000 and the company own 19 factories. They produced a large variety of military optical products, such as periscopes, aerial lenses, bomb sights and binoculars. All military products manufactured by them were of extraordinary quality, and they corroborated to be of great use to Japanese military.
But at the end of World War II, they were just reduced to one factory, and only 1400 employees were working in the company. Now, they started producing the optical products, for which they were famous, prior to the World War. However, at this time, they were new to the facade world and market.
Now Nippon Kogaku Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha (Nikon) decided that they will launch their own camera. In late 1945 or early 1946 research began on the production of 6×6 TLR and a 35mm, couple range finder and an interchangeable lens camera. The company dropped the idea of TLR, and they continued their research on 35mm technology. On April 15, 1946, company issued an order of 20 test or experimental samples of the camera. These exploratory or test samples were run through many test. Then required changes were made, and the final model was ready on September of 1946. This model was named ‘NIKON’. But due to some internal reasons, and the research on the camera lens, the company was not able to start the mass production till early 1948. But after this delay, the company brings forward their new camera ‘NIKON.’
Many new names were suggested for this camera, like “BENTAX, PENTAX, PANNET, NICCA, NIKKA, NIKORET, NIKO and NIKKORETTE”, but the company decided to keep the name “NIKKORETTE”. But just before the final design was completed, the name was changed to ‘NIKON.’
Now days, NIKON is one of the leading producers of the cameras. The company is producing the most advanced and latest model of the camera. NIKON has released a new camera, named Nikon D3X, which has a 24.4 megapixel camera. This camera is powered with a full frame sensor. There are hardly any minus points of NIKON products. So, it will not be wrong to say that NIKON is the king of Camera production.

Halloween is celebrated on 31st October as an annual holiday. Its roots lied in, All Saints’ Day, a sanctum day for christens, and Celtic festival of Samhain. Some people have squeezed strong emotions perceived religious overtones. During Ireland’s Great Famine of 1846, the Irish nomads carried the version of convention to the continent of North America.

Halloween has its origin in the Celtic festival of Samhain. Celtic feast of Samhain is celebrated as “Celtic New Year”. It is celebrated at the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture. On this festival, the ancient Celtic pagans, stock their supplies, and kept them as massacred livestock for winter stores. The ancient Celts had a belief that on this day, the demarcation between this world and the other world disappeared, and the dead became precarious to the livings, by causing sickness to the living, and destroying their crops. On the festival of Halloween, bonfires were frequently implicated, and the bones of the massacred livestock were thrown in the fire. Many costumes and mask were worn on the festival of Halloween, on the account of imitating the evil, and conciliate them. In Scotland, young men’s wearing masks, with blackened faces and wearing white clothes try to caricature the evil spirit.

The word Halloween is the short form of, All Hallows’ Eve, which arose from the English word, eallra h?lgena ?fen, which has a meaning, “All Hallow’ Evening”. As Hallowe’en is the Eve of “All Hallows’ Day”, so, it is also as All Saints’ Day. Halloween is celebrated as a sacred festive day in various northern European pagan traditions, up to the time of Popes Gregory IV and Gregory III. They shifted “The All Saints’ Day” from May 13 (which itself had been the bate of pagan holiday i.e. the Feast of The Lemures) to the date, November 1. The ancient church of 9th century, measured the day as commencing at dusk. In the present time, The Saints’ Day is celebrated on the next day of the Halloween. However, the ancient time, both of them were celebrated on the same day.

On the day of Halloween, Trick-or-treating is accustomed celebration for the children. Children wear different dresses, move outside from their home, and ask for a treat, like candy, by saying these words, “Tricks or treat.” By the word “trick”, the children refer to some wreckage of property, to the homeowners. On the festival of Halloween, children love to dance and sing songs.

Halloween is celebrated as a tradition to startle the devils and evil spirit. So, the theme of dresses will be based on “horror”. So the dresses will be those of monsters, ghosts, skeletons and affiliated character.

Halloween parties are famous for their games. There are large numbers of the game played on this day. One of the common games is apple bobbing or dousing, in which participants try to remove the apple from the basin with their teeth. Another variant apple bobbing or dunking is also very famous. In this variant, the participant sitting on the chair, and holding fork in their mouth, tries to put that fork into the apple. Another communal game involves, hanging up donuts or treacle by strings, and then ingesting them without using, your hands. There are large numbers of game played as prophecy. A common game named Puicíní, is played in Ireland. In this game, the player is blindfolded, by tying a same cloth around his eyes, and then several saucers are placed on the table, in front of him. Then the saucers are shuffled, and he has to choose one saucer. The content in the saucer will conclude the future course of his life.

A festival is incomplete without food. Halloween is famous for taffy apples or caramel. This sweet is prepared by rolling the whole apple, in the adhesive sugar syrup. Baking of Barnbrack, is the custom that even prevailed in the modern Ireland. It is a light fruit cake, which is placed along with coins and rings, before baking.
With its origin in Celtic refinements, the festival of Halloween is not celebrated around the globe. It is celebrated in the countries following Celtic cultures, or by the countries, which have some convention or religious belief, attached to this festival. Nevertheless, Halloween is a great festival with its entire source in the religious and traditional beliefs.

It will not be inapposite to say that Oxford English dictionary is the progenitors of English Language and literature. If you have a problem regarding some word in the English language, Oxford English dictionary will provide you with the best solution.
According to the publishers of Oxford English dictionary, a single person will take 120 geezer hoods to type all 59 million words of Oxford English dictionary; he will take about 60 calendar years to proofread it; and if an electronic version of Oxford English dictionary is created, it will occupy 540 megabytes of space to store it. Oxford English dictionary consists of 301,100 words.
In the early stages, the Oxford English dictionary was not associated to Oxford University. It was an idea of small groups of prodigies in London. It was a philological project conceptualized by Frederick Furnivall, Herbert Coleridge, and Richard Chenevix Trench, in London. These people were not satisfied with the English dictionaries, available at that time. Frederick Furnivall, Herbert Coleridge, and Richard Chenevix Trench formed an “Unregistered Words Committee”, in June 1857. The main functions of this committee were to search unlisted and unspecified words, lacking in the current version of dictionaries. In November 1957, Richard Chenevix Trench submitted his report. This report did not contain the list of unregistered words, but consist of the study On Some Imperfections in our English Dictionaries. In this report, Richard Chenevix Trench specifies seven inadequacies of the dictionaries, present at that time. These shortcomings were:

Incongruous coverage of families of allied words

Abridged description of outmoded words

History of obsolete senses of words often omitted

Sparse use of good elucidative quotations

Imprecise dates for earliest use of words

Space wasted on irrelevant or superfluous content

Inadequate discernment among synonyms.

The philological society comprehended that the number of unlisted words would be far greater that the number of words in the English dictionaries, of that time. Now, after the submission of the report by Richard Chenevix Trench, and considering the above facts, the philological society shifted their work from only words that were not already in English dictionaries to a more panoptic project. Richard Chenevix Trench suggested that there was a need of a true comprehensive dictionary. The philological society, on January 7, 1858, adopted the idea of a true comprehensive dictionary. Books were allotted to volunteer readers. And then copy to quotation slips passages exhibiting actual word usages was created. And finally, in 1958, the philological society agreed to a project, named “A New English Dictionary on Historical Principles”.
Richard Chenevix Trench played a key role in early stages of the project. However, he was not able to give the right time required for the project, so he withdrew himself from the project, and Herbert Coleridge became the first editor. On 12th May, 1860, Coleridge’s dictionary plan was published and his team started the research. He made his house his first office. In May 1861, Herbert Coleridge died of tuberculosis.
After that, Frederick Furnivall became the editor, and took all the work in his hands. However, Frederick Furnivall was not able to keep his workers spurred. He understood the need of a proficient excerpting system, and finally started several precursory projects.
In 1870, Furnivall approached James Murray to succeed him for the post of the editor. In the late 1870s, Furnivall and Murray turned to several publishers for publishing their dictionary. And at last, in 1878, Oxford university press agreed with Furnivall and Murray to publish this colossal project. Finally, after 20 years, the historic dictionary got its publisher and 50 years later, the dictionary was complete.
Until date two editions of Oxford dictionary have been released, and third edition is to be released in the coming time. Oxford dictionary is an extensive source of Head words, Enunciation, Parts of articulation, Homonym numbers, Variant forms, Amalgams, Initialisms, Abridgements, Affixes, Counterfeit words and many more. CD version of Oxford dictionary has also been launched. You can find all above mentioned things in that CD ROM.

It would not be wrong to say that language is incomplete without Oxford dictionary. It is Oxford dictionary only, which is ready to help us in language, whenever we have some problem.

Wrestling can be traced back to cave drawings in France, but the pro wrestling that we see today is thought to have originated in the late 1800’s. It is thought that the first pro wrestling shows were held at carnivals. WWE was first established in 1952 by Vince McMahon’s grandfather, Jess McMahon and Raymond “Toots” Mondt, as the Capitol Wrestling Corporation and later joined the National Wrestling Alliance in 1953. It would later be named the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF). It was shortened to WWF in 1979. The first “Wrestlemania” was held in 1985 and was a resounding success.
Coming back to WWE, its origin saw a new entry way to professionalism. These famous lines started it all, “Our new name puts the emphasis on the “E” for entertainment, what our company does best. WWE provides us with a global identity that is distinct and unencumbered, which is critical to our U.S. and international growth plans.” said Linda McMahon, CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, on May 6, 2002, giving birth to WWE of today. It was an attempt to capture a greater market share and to represent the growing diversity of its entertainment properties; World Wrestling Federation Entertainment today announced a change in its name to World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc (WWE).The change of it name has its own controversial history, the World Wildlife Fund sued the WWE (then known as the WWF) stating that they (WWE) had violated an agreement concerning use of the acronym WWF outside of North America. The World Wildlife Fund’s suit was upheld in a British court. In 2002, the WWF changed its name to World Wrestling Entertainment. This name change provided a distinct and unburdened global identity to the World Wrestling Entertainment as an integrated entertainment and media company.
Vince McMahon is the majority owner and chairman of the company and his wife Linda McMahon holds the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Together with their children, Executive Vice President of Global Media, Shane McMahon and Executive Vice President of Talent and Creative Writing, Stephanie McMahon-Levesque, the McMahons hold approximately 70% of WWE’s economic interest and 96% of the voting power in the company.
McMahon represents the third generation of a professional wrestling dynasty: his grandfather, Jess McMahon, worked as a boxing and wrestling promoter, while his father, Vince McMahon, Sr., founded the Capitol Wrestling Corporation. Capitol dominated professional wrestling in the Northeastern United States during the mid-20th century, when the sport was divided into strictly regional enterprises.
The growth sees a host of eclectic marketing and business strategies. McMahon recruited new talent and bought out competition across the country, forming a corporation he called the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and a parent company called Titan Sports, Inc.
WWF wrestling was technically not a real sport, as the outcome of each match was known in advance. Thus Mac Mohan hyped up its entertainment aspect, introducing wrestlers with theatrical personae and flashy costumes and staging elaborate displays for the benefit of the arena crowds and the cable audience. It worked–in 1987; the WWF sold $80 million in tickets to live events, according to Forbes magazine.
On October 25, 2000 WWE Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE:WWE) announced that its common stock will begin trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the ticker WWE effective today, positioning WWE as one of the premier businesses of the world.
The company’s global headquarters are located in Stamford, Connecticut with offices in Los Angeles, New York City, London, and Toronto.

MySpace, “a place for friends”, is a social networking website where its users can create their own profile, upload videos, blogs, and pictures and meet new friends. The website is for adults as well as teenagers. It has its headquarters in Beverly Hills, California, USA where it shares an office building with its immediate owner, Fox Interactive Media. This fifth most popular website in English language and one of the top brands in the world, traces a history filled with public disputes along with deals on mergers which zeroed down to nothing and allegations.
Thomas “Tom” Anderson, is the President of this social networking website MySpace. Anderson is the man who is recognized as the founder of this site along with CEO Chris De Wolfe, but Brad Greenspan, the former Chairman, CEO and largest individual shareholder of Intermix Media, claims to be the true “founder of MySpace”.
Going back in time after the 2002 launch of Friendster several employees of eUniverse saw its potential and decided on the launch of a social networking website on similar lines and thus in August 2003, the first version of MySpace was ready for launch. According to its founder, “We followed Friendster’s launch and growth for several months when I decided that eUniverse would be in the social networking business. In the summer of 2003, as the CEO of eUniverse (and largest shareholder), I made the decision to use our technology, resources, and capital to launch Myspace.com, which debuted to the public on August 15, 2003”.The original users of MySpace were eUniverse employees. The project was overseen by Brad Greenspan (eUniverse’s Founder, Chairman, CEO), who managed Chris DeWolfe (MySpace’s starting CEO), Josh Berman, Tom Anderson (MySpace’s starting president), and a team of programmers and resources provided by eUniverse. Coming from one of its founder’s mouth MySpace was 100% created and marketed by eUniverse, in 2003.The best talents of eUniverse were taken and infused into the MySpace team, many sharp minds have contributed to adding features and ideas to improve the functionality of the site. Merely six months old MySpace surpasses Friendster as the most trafficked social networking site.
This family of community websites has ultimately become worth tens of billions of dollars.
By February 2005, MySpace traffic started growing by 6% per week. It was during that time DeWolfe met Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to talk about merger, but Zuckerberg wanted $75 million, so the idea was dropped.
In June 2006 it became the most popular website of United States.
The 100 millionth account was created on August 6, 2006 in the Netherlands and the site counted approximately 106 million accounts on September 8, 2008.The company has more than 1600 employees. The site is currently available in 15 different languages.

The free social messaging utility for staying connected in real time with friends and family is what www.twitter.com promises. This free social networking and micro blogging service which enables its users to share and read other user’s updates known as tweets, was founded in March 2006 by Obvious Group, with its Head quarters in California, U.S.A. This ten person start up has 29 employees as of now.
Coming from the Chairman Jack Dorsey’s mouth, it all started when at 18, he moved to New York City to attend NYU and began working at one of the biggest courier services in the country, DMS, where he continued working as a software developer, writing dispatch software. Jack was fascinated by the fact that all the users of this software – taxi drivers, limo drivers, couriers were really just reporting what they were doing, baring down essential facts only, thus the idea for Twitter was envisioned. In 2000, Jack launched his own company to dispatch couriers, taxis, and emergency services via the web. Over the next few years Jack continued working out his idea of fusing dispatch software, instant messaging, and text messaging to create real-time status communication, and in 2006 he approached San Francisco-based podcasting company ODEO, which was also interested in text messaging. It was there that he met Biz Stone and ODEO co-founder Evan Williams. Jack Dorsey and Biz Stone spent just 2 weeks creating the first Twitter prototype and implemented it as an internal service for ODEO employees. They launched a full-scale version of Twitter in July of 2006. Three months later Biz, Evan, Jack and other members of the ODEO team formed Obvious Corporation, and acquired ODEO and all of its assets – including Odeo.com and Twitter.com – from the investors and other shareholders, and Twitter was spun off into its own company in 2007.
Twitter is all about tweets which is a form of SMS, or text based posts where users have to condense their sentiments in 140 words
In November 2008 a research estimated 4- 5 million twitter users. Since its inception in 2006, twitter has gained extensive notability and worldwide popularity. It is often described as the “SMS of Internet,” as the site provides the benefit of sending and receiving short text messages. Twitter continues to grow in importance and has gained popularity in both the consumer world and corporate world.
A February 2009 Compete.com blog entry ranks Twitter as the third most used social network after Facebook and MySpace. In March 2009, a Nielsen’s blog ranked Twitter as the fastest growing site in the Member Communities category for February 2009. Twitter had a growth of 1382%; Zimbio had a growth of 240%, followed by Facebook with a growth of 228%.
The key people of the Company are Jack Dorsey who is the Chairman, Evan Williams the CEO, and Biz Stone the Creative Director.
