New fire station proposed

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue has requested to lease 10 acres of Bureau of Land Management land to build a new station on Cliff Shadows Parkway between Alexander Road and Hickam Avenue.

“We have to place our resources in a manner that gives us the best opportunity to meet our response time goal of 6 minutes,” Deputy Fire Chief Rick Gracia said.

The proposed Station 145 is still more than five years from being built, Gracia said. The department should learn if the BLM approves the use by next summer.

The station would occupy 2.5 acres with the rest of the land used as a community park, according to preliminary plans.

The city also plans to open stations in Sun City Summerlin near Lake Mead Boulevard, east of the Beltway; on the West Charleston campus of the College of Southern Nevada; at Vegas Drive and Decatur Boulevard; and at Enterprise Park near Martin Luther King Jr. and Lake Mead boulevards.
