Wynn Golf Club pro takes first series event

The Southern Nevada Chapter of the Southwest PGA Section held its first Player Series event of 2009 at Angel Park Golf Club.

Patrick Duty of Wynn Golf Club continued his good play by posting a 3-under-par 68 to easily capture the medalist honors over Joshua Hall of Durango Hills Golf Club. Hall shot a 1-over-par 72 to finish runner-up.

Mike Buss of Desert Rose Golf Club and Mike Frechette of Royal Links Golf Club finished tied for third at 73.

In the Senior Division, Lake Las Vegas professional Gary Knapp shot 72 to edge Buss by a shot. Lifetime member Jerry Roberts finished third with a 77.

Golf Channel to host 6th annual Duel in the Desert

Area golfers will have a chance to participate against other golfers of their own ability at the 6th annual Duel in the Desert.

Hosted by the Golf Channel Amateur Tour, the Duel in the Desert will take place Feb. 5 to 7 in Mesquite and consists of two-person teams playing 54 holes in three different formats: scramble, modified alternate shot and best ball.

Assuming a full field (360 golfers), there will be six flights for the event and each flight will be a maximum of 30 teams per flight, distributed by team handicaps.

The host is the CasaBlanca and the event will be played over The Palmer at Oasis Golf Club, Falcon Ridge Golf Club and The Canyons at the Oasis Golf Club.

The event is open to the public and cost is $800 per player (double occupancy) or $850 per player (single occupancy). The fee includes three rounds of golf (one on each of the host courses) including range balls and three nights accommodation at the CasaBlanca.

Las Vegas National to host association opener

The Southern Nevada Golf Association will open its 2009 season with the SNGA Opener Feb. 7 to 8 at Las Vegas National Golf Club .

The event is open to net division players only and all players must be current members of the association to participate.
