“Marcie Taylor brings devotion to athletes, coaches and programs, and to the wider mission of Anderson University,” said Dr. James L. Edwards, president of Anderson University. “Over these years as a teacher and coach, she has equipped herself to take on this assignment and to move our intercollegiate athletic programs to greater successes. We are delighted to have her leadership in this major institutional role.”

In addition to her role as associate athletic director, Taylor has served as head women’s basketball coach since 1990 and head women’s golf coach since 1995. She has taught in the Kinesiology Department at Anderson University—namely Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, and Team Sports and Instructional Strategies for Middle School Health and Physical Education.

Under her guidance, the AU women’s basketball posted a winning record in five of the last eight years, including a 21-7 record in 2002, when they won the HCAC title and advanced to the NCAA Div. III national tournament. The women’s golf team, led by Taylor, posted a second place finish in the HCAC tournament in their first season as a varsity sport in 1998.

Taylor came to AU in 1980 from Bowdon, N.D. where she attended the Bowdon Church of God. She graduated from Anderson University in 1984 with a bachelor of arts in Secondary Education/Physical Education and a minor in Biology. During her student days at AU, Taylor was a guard for the Ravens.

She earned a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Ball State University in 1988. Before returning to Anderson in a staff role, Taylor was the head basketball coach at Bismark Junior High School for two years. She also spent one year as an assistant coach at AU before taking over the program.

Taylor is a member of several national organizations including the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators, Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, Indiana Basketball Coaches Association, National Golf Coaches Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.

Anderson University is a private Christian university of 2,700 undergraduate and graduate students in central Indiana. Anderson continues to be recognized as a top Christian college: in 2008, U.S. News and World Report ranked Anderson University among the best colleges and universities in the Midwest for the fourth consecutive year. Established in 1917 by the Church of God, Anderson University offers more than 65 undergraduate majors and graduate programs in business, education, music, nursing and theology.

Stef Francis led the Ravens with a 46-49 95 on Saturday. Other AU finishers were Kendria Stephens (47-49 96), Carrie Thomas (53-58 111), Katie Timm (63-50 113) and Amanda McHarney (75-60 135).

AU competes at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships on Oct. 13 and 15 at Walden Ponds Golf Course in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Stef Francis led the Ravens with a two-day total of 94-94 188 and Kendria Stephens had a 98-91 189.

Other AU finishers were Katie Timm (112-105 217), Carrie Thomas (121-109 230) and Ellen Thompson (126-130 256).

AU travels to the Manchester Invitational on Oct. 6 at noon.

Kendria Stephens led the Ravens with a 98-94 192 and was 12th individually.

The first round was played on Saturday at St. Anne’s Golf Course in North Vernon and the final round was Sunday at Sunrise Falls Golf Course in Madison.

Other AU finishers were Stef Francis (104-96 200), Kate Timm (106-100 206), Carrie Thomas (116-104 220) and Ellen Thompson (139-123 262).

AU travels to the DePauw Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m.

DePauw won the meet with a two-day total of 625 and Franklin’s Kate Tewell was the medalist with a 67-71 138.

DePauw shot a team total of 312 to lead Franklin by 20 shots. Rose-Hulman (348) and Transylvania (348) were tied for third, followed by Wash & Jeff (354), AU (364), Manchester (373) and Hanover (419).

The final round will be played on Sunday at Killbuck Golf Course at 11 a.m.

Helms finished 33rd in the meet as an individual. The senior qualified for the NCAA Div. III national meet last year and is attempting to repeat that performance again this spring.

Chrissy Helms shot a 73-79 152 to lead the Ravens and finished second individually.
