About KVPY:
The “Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana” (KVPY) is a programme started during 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India to encourage students of Basic Sciences, Engineering and Medicine to take up research careers in these areas. Generous scholarship and contingency grant is provided (up to the Pre-Ph.D. level) to the selected students.

The selection of students from those who are studying +1, +2, any U.G. Programme including First/Second year Engineering/Medicine are carried out by IISc (Bangalore), IIT-Bombay (Mumbai), and ICMR (New Delhi), respectively, in association with two Zonal Centres one at Kolkata (Indian Institute of Science Education Research, Kolkata) and another at Mumbai (HBCSE, TIFR). There are special groups or committees set up at IISc, IIT and ICMR which screen the applications, conduct interviews at various centres, make the final selection and attend to follow-up matters.

About the Award: The Charles Wallace Trust awards fifteen scholarships to practitioners in heritage and the arts so that they may have an edge in their respective fields. The Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Scholarships are a component of a regional program that aims to develop leadership and build partnerships and linkages within the Asia-Pacific.The ALA program comprises of Scholarships and Fellowships. ALA Scholarships are academically elite awards offered to high achievers from the Asia-Pacific region each year to undertake postgraduate study (Masters or Doctorate) and a Leadership Development Program in Australia.

Awards are open to all fields of study, however, study programs that relate to the priority themes of international trade, pandemics, security and climate change (including clean energy) are encouraged. Scholarships are not available for military training, or training in areas related to nuclear technology and flying aircraft.

Leadership Development Program (LDP):
The LDP comprises a three day conference in Canberra, regional workshops and leadership coaching and practice opportunities. The LDP increases skills in leadership and enhances participants’ understanding of the challenges at national, regional and global levels. LDP aims to help scholars realise their full leadership potential and provides important networking and collaborative opportunities for ALA scholars.

The Center for Media and Cultural Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences has announced a fellowship for film-makers at an early stage of their career. The fellowship is designed to provide the resources and environment for films that are innovative, relevant and contribute to the growing body of documentary and short film work in India.

The fellowship consists of:

• A stipend of up to Rs. 15,000 per month for a maximum period of five months.
• The provision of in-house HDV equipment including camera and editing facilities.
• Reimbursement of actual of production expenses on the basis of a pre-approved budget.

The applicants are required to provide the following documents:

• A detailed Curriculum Vitae
• Up to two non- returnable samples of work on DVD/VCD.
• An essay outlining the film proposal in not more than 2000 words. This essay should include: a working title for the film, language, the central theme of the film, approach to the content and narrative style, possible visual segments.
• A production schedule with a detailed time frame for:research and script, cinematography, editing to rough cut, editing to final cut, submission of all material.
• A budget for other production expenses (e.g. travel, field expenses, payments to other professionals etc.). Please note that the fellowship does not support any infrastructural costs such as setting up of an office, buying of equipment, or per diem costs.
• Names and contact details of two referees, preferably from the field of media, whom they will contact for a reference if needed.

Up to two fellowships are available based on the quality of applications. Short Listed candidates may have to attend an interview in August-2008.

Sutdents applying for the scholarship must be Nationals of India born between 1992 and 1994 and should have completed standard 8 in the year 2008. Candidate must possess outstanding academic track record.

The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (Singapore) launched the A*STAR India Youth Scholarships in 2004. A*STAR India Youth Scholarships is offered to outstanding students for 4 years of studies in Singapore, leading to the Singapore- Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Advanced) Level or equivalent, an international qualification widely recognised in many countries. The Scholarship is tenable for 4 years leading to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education ‘Advanced’ (GCE ‘A’) Level (or equivalent) certificate.

The Scholarship is for studies in selected Singapore schools from Secondary Three to Pre-University Two and is renewed annually, subject to the satisfactory performance of the scholar.

Outstanding A*STAR India Youth Scholars may be further identified for the A*STAR Young Researchers Attachment Programme.

• Annual Allowance of S$2,200 (Secondary Level) and S$2,400( Pre-University Level)

Each year, Stanford may award up to five Reliance Dhirubhai Fellowships:

Process and Evaluation Criteria:
Up to 50 Reliance Dhirubhai Fellows Finalists will be selected based on:

- Commitment to developing India
- Financial need

In the second stage, those Reliance Dhirubhai Fellows finalists will go on to complete the standard application process for the Stanford MBA Program. As part of the MBA admission process, Reliance Dhirubhai Fellows finalists will be required to take the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) if they have not done so already. The Reliance Dhirubhai Fellows finalists will bear none of the costs associated with the GMAT exams or Stanford application.

Stanford may select up to five Reliance Dhirubhai Fellows from among the finalists based on its primary admission criteria of:
- Intellectual vitality
- Demonstrated leadership potential
- Personal qualities and contributions

KAUST will offer a pre-enrollment version of this general scholarship program to students attending first-university or bachelor’s degree programs. Upon graduation, these students will enter KAUST as master’s degree students in September 2009 and 2010 to complete their graduate studies on a fully funded scholarship.

The scholars will serve as “Ambassadors” at global research and technical conferences and workshops. Indian women living in India and who are currently not employed in permanent position and who possess one of the following qualifications- PhD degree in science, master’s degree in engineering or technology, architecture, medicine or pharmacy; who have break in career for at least three years or more after having master’s degree in science or bachelor’s degree in engineering or medicine, architecture or pharmacy. The applicant should be below the age of 50 years.

Women Scientists for societal programmes (WOS-B) is a fellowship programme which is the initiative of the Department of Science and Technology to maximally utilize the human resources of women scientists for development of the country.Support will include a scholarship grant of Rs.15,000 per month for Level I and Rs.10,000 per month for Level II for a period of two years. Grant for minor equipment, consumables and contingencies, Travel and overheads will also be considered if found necessary under the work plan. Candidates selected for for the award of the fellowship are not expected to register for higher degree during the period of fellowship. The scholarship will be given for 2 years. The period may be extended to the third year in exceptional cases.

The various Project proposals could be for:

• Research, development and adaptation of technology to improve the quality of life and provide additional opportunities for income generation in urban slums or rural areas;
• Adaptation and transfer of an innovative technology form laboratory to field
• Capacity building of applicant in technology areas relevant to the needs in rural areas;

Throughout his life, Gerald Soffen dedicated himself to fostering the growth of young space scientists and engineers. The Dr. Gerald A. Soffen Memorial Fund for the Advancement of Space Science Education was established to continue Jerry’s commitment to the future of space by supporting motivated students in the fields of space science and engineering. The Dr. Gerald A. Soffen Memorial Fund for the Advancement of Space Science Education offers Student Travel Grants.

Since the fall of 2002, the Soffen Fund has provided students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in space-related sciences and engineering with Travel Grants. The Travel Grants enable awardees to attend a professional conference at which they present their research. The Travel Grants are awarded to students who attend meetings at which they will present their research.

www.A2ZScholarships.com is an initiative by students of the Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), who have put together a directory of scholarships on offer from around the world.

The website has been put together by over 200 students, mostly hostelites at the Matunga-based engineering institute. Currently, the site provides details on almost 500 scholarships for various disciplines.

The site’s interface allows a student to fill up information about the course she/he desires to pursue, the cost of education, family’s annual income and the marks scored by the student. Once the form is submitted online, a list of trusts that would be willing to help the student pops up. Students plan to regularly update this site and currently information of 1,500 more scholarships is being collected.
